Chapter 10: Construction and Juice Boxes
Previous Chapter Next ChapterPinkamena opened the door of her car and climbed in. Applejack then climbed into the passenger seat before they drove away from the hotel.
"So, what's the plan, AJ?" asked the pink mare.
The orange mare checked her phone, looking at a text sent from Celestia. "She just wants us patrollin' for now..." she said with a sigh.
The pink mare nodded as they turned down another road. "Things are pretty boring now, huh?"
"Yep... But, at least we can sleep at night," said AJ, putting her phone away. "And, this was the reason for the Elementals forming in the first place." She then looked out the window. "We're protectors. And, so far... we're doin' pretty good..."
"True... Kicking Changeling ass felt pretty good," Pinks said with a chuckle.
Her passenger smirked with a nod. "Though, it's a shame we couldn't take care of Chrysalis..."
Pinkamena let out a deep sigh as she tapped on the steering wheel. "Yeah..."
They drove around for a while until they approached a spot where a ton of construction vehicles and workers were working.
"The hell are they building here?" asked Applejack as Pinkie pulled over to the side of the road and parked.
Across the street at the site was a sign on the fence that read New Horizons.
"New Horizons?" asked Pinks, turning the engine off. "Let's check this out..."
"This really necessary?" asked AJ as the pink mare opened her door and climbed out.
"Something new's being built..." Pinks started, waiting for AJ. "I'm sure Celestia and Luna would want us to know what exactly New Horizons is."
The orange mare let out a sigh as she got out of the car, both mares closing their door. "Ah suppose yer right..."
"'Course I'm right," the pink mare replied with a smile as they made their way across the street.
As they got closer a brown colt with black hair in a construction worker's uniform looked their way. "Can I help you?" he asked in a deep voice.
"Just wondering what New Horizons is..." said Pinks as her and AJ stepped up onto the sidewalk in front of the colt.
"It's a laboratory," the colt explained. "Specializes in research to help find cures and other useful stuff."
"Useful stuff, huh?" asked AJ. "Seems shady..."
"Shady?" the colt asked with a chuckle. "New Horizons is here to help, I assure you."
Pinks raised an eyebrow before nodding. "Yeah, alright... We'll still be keeping an eye on you..."
"Who's we?" asked the colt.
"The Elementals," AJ started. "We're sort of this city's protectors..."
"Ah," the colt said with a smile. "I see..."
"Any ideas when this building's supposed to be completed?" asked the pink mare.
The brown colt nodded. "At the current rate, within the week."
Both mares eyed each other before looking at the colt. "Thanks for your time..." Pinks said before she and AJ turned, walking away.
"Thinking what ah'm thinkin'?" asked AJ once they were far enough way.
The pink mare nodded. "Seven days is really fast for constructing a building... Must be important..." She then unlocked her car and climbed into the driver's seat as AJ climbed into the passenger's seat. "Certainly worth keeping an eye on..."
Applejack nodded. "Last thing this city needs is another psycho... We're still recovering from Chrysalis' attack..."
Cadence exited the elevator at the basement, pushing a cart of food and drinks down the hall. Once she arrived at the room with the holding cells she entered and looked around. All the members from the rival gangs, minus Midnight and Chrysalis, were in the cells now. All the mares looked her way as she wheeled in the cart.
"What the hell?!" the blue unicorn yelled. "Trixie demands to be let out!"
"Quiet, Trixie," the alicorn said as she wheeled the cart over to her cell at the far end. "Just be grateful we put you in the same cell as your bed buddy."
The unicorn looked at Lightning Dust, who was sitting behind her in the same cell, before looking back at the alicorn. "Well, why did Midnight get to leave?"
"Because she's accepted us and has become part of the team..." Cadence explained. "Now, do you want your juice?" she asked, pulling out a juice box and holding it out to the mare. Trixie bit her lip, hesitating before nodding as she felt quite thirsty. "Then, shut up and drink," she said, tossing the juice box at the unicorn.
Trixie caught it and began to pull the straw off the side, poking it into the box and drinking. The alicorn then tossed one to Lightning Dust and began doing the same to the others. When she tossed one to Gilda the griffin caught it but her claws punctured the sides..
"Oh, shit!" she gasped, trying to plug the holes up. She then looked at Cadence who shrugged.
"Only get one, Gilda," she said with a smirk, before pushing the cart towards the door.
Kyra eyed the griff in the cell beside her and let out a sigh. "G..." she said, crawling over and pushing her juice box through the bars. "I know how thirsty you can get..."
The griffin scooted over to the side of her cell and took the box, eyeing the mare. "Are you sure?"
Kyra gave her a smile and nodded. "Yeah, I'm sure..."
Cadence stopped at the door and eyed them, a light smile appearing on her face before heading out. Once she got into the hall she stopped again, hesitating before sighing. She then took another juice box from the cart and entered the room again. After placing it by Kyra's cell she immediately left, pushing the cart away.
Kyra eyed the box by her cell and then the griffin. Both were in slight shock at the alicorn's sudden generosity towards them. Then, after the shock wore off, Gilda began drinking as Kyra went to go get her new juice box.
