Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Rift

Previous Chapter

By the time Tink had been brought up to speed about the events surrounding the ponies' troublesome jump across dimension spectrums the rest of her friends had already snuck themselves into the holding area, which was located in a small alcove a fair distance from Springtime Square.

"We can't ask you to believe our story, but we can ask you to judge us based off the small interactions we've had together," Twilight told the group of undecided fairies, "and if you have faith in our story and in us then we really need you to help us."

Before any of the pixies answered they looked at each other, most of them looking suggestive or positive, though Vidia shook her head and had an authoritarian look on her face.

"Come on, I know it seems too weird, but I trust them," Tinker Bell told the fast flyer, who snorted in derision.

"Of course you do."

"Oh come on Vidia, they don't seem like world destroyers or anything," Iridessa persuaded with the added nod of Rosetta.

"And how can you ignore those cute faces of theirs?" Silvermist asked loud enough for Rainbow to hear and subsequently allow her face to droop at the comment, though Fawn giggled at the remark.

"I expected this from Tinker Bell, but since when do the rest of you guys outright disobey Queen Clarion's orders?" Vidia asked, finally realizing that she was well outnumbered and needed to stop this nonsense before it went too far.

"Well everyone makes mistakes, even Queen Clarion, besides, we have no reason to distrust them," Rosetta explained her reasoning which only further aggravated Vidia.

"They could be, I don't know, lying!" Vidia scolded.

"Hang on a minute," Applejack snapped from the prison cell, "things might work different around here, but where we come from it's mighty clear that I'm no liar! We're not here to destroy the world or anything like that, so if you're gonna judge us, do it on what we've said and how we've behaved, not on your own suspicions!"

Vidia made another scoffing noise and turned her back to the two groups.

"If we do get you out, then will you promise to go back to your own world?" Tink asked Twilight as she approached the cage.

Twilight briefly looked towards her companions before nodding in agreement. Tink began examining the cell while her Rosetta and Iridessa continued to talk with Vidia. Within a matter of seconds the blonde tinker fairy was flying around to different parts of the cell and tampering with a variety of parts that went into making the small prison.

"Is this going to take much longer?" Rainbow asked after a minute or two had passed without anything very significant happening.

"It is if you want it done as quietly and casually as possible," Tinker Bell replied without stopping or taking her eyes of the monstrous cage.

"What do you think Queen Clarion has planned for them?" Fawn casually asked Silvermist, who shrugged innocently as the rest of the fairies came back to join the two of them.

"I'll help," Vidia told them begrudgingly, "but you have to get home right away and you don't make me question what you're up to. Got it?"

"We're not planning on staying anyways," Rainbow assured in her own brash and sure manner.

"Got it," Tink announced as the west wall of the cell shook and several of the binding cords, in actuality vines, unravelled and retracted. The walls then caved in and slid off each other, covering the ponies for a moment before falling rather quietly to the ground.

"Well done, now shall we take our leave?" Rarity thanked and inquired.

"The sooner we get back to Equestria, the better," Twilight said as the fairies peaked out the door. After they were assured of safe passage, they quickly flew off and guided the ponies out.

Normally many other fairies and sparrowmen would be privy to their actions, but the land was oddly barren at the time, as according to Tink's friends, Clarion and Milori had summoned almost all of the inhabitants of Pixie Hollow to a grand meeting of sorts, the details of which were fairly sketchy. In any case, a vast majority of the fairies were gone, but caution was a tool the group of twelve could not afford to cast away.

Upon retreating from the holding cell area, the union of equines and fairies traversed Springtime Square and headed out towards what the ponies guessed was a forest of flowers to the fairies, with many large patches of different flowers of many shapes and colors. Had the ponies changed size upon entering the dimension things would be much better off, but given that they were all quite large in the relative terms of Pixie Hollow, there were far fewer safe places for them to go.

After they had gone through the flower patches they came to a decent sized river, but again, nothing to really hide the ponies in. At this point flowers were replaced largely with shrubbery and dirt, and in comparison it was easier ground to travel across. It was at this point that a few animal fairies came into view as they watched for hawks and other dangers high up in the nearby Autumn Forest.

"Stay down and keep quiet!" Fawn urged, "It's a miracle they didn't see us already."

"Yeah, we could use a distraction," Tink agreed while the ponies instantly dropped to their stomachs and tried to stay well hidden under the slight cover of the shrubbery.

"I'll handle it...just get them out of here," Vidia replied with a slight distaste and uneasy aggression.

The fast flyer went out and began chatting with the animal fairy watchers, spouting out a story about orders from Queen Clarion as she went. The other eleven crept along, but they were running out of room and would soon be spotted if Vidia let down her act in any way.

"We need something more, or this isn't going to work," Twilight panicked out loud, though she had the tact to make her voice low enough to evade the ears of the animal fairies.

"I'll handle this," Rosetta stepped up and flew off covertly behind the watchers as they looked at each with confusion thanks to Vidia's story.

"I'll go ahead and scout out the area," Fawn announced and swiftly moved forward to do so.

Tink, Twilight, and the others waited as Rosetta made her move and the watchers of the forest began to openly challenge Vidia, who was beginning to subtly look towards the group for help.

When she had what she needed, Rosetta flew down to the base of a tree and began mixing together unknown substances and concocting something to help them while Vidia began to back down and the others waited for the moment of opportunity. When the substances had been properly and thoroughly mixed in, Rosetta added some pixie dust and threw the substance on the tree and several others near it. Once finished, she hid the acorn caps and leaves she used to help her and took off in the direction Fawn had.

The watchers immediately turned around at the sounds of the trees growing rapidly and cracking. Vidia zipped past and they gave chase, only to be too slow to catch her and end up being caught in a mysterious blue substance that began to spray from the trees, which seemed to have a paralyzing affect on them.

With the path cleared, the rest of the group headed out again and hurried through the trees of the forest until they finally arrived at the beach where Fawn, Rosetta, and Vidia were waiting for them.

The sound of waves gave a sense of the peace to the escapees and their aides, and once there, they prepared to part ways.

"This is fine, I'll open the portal and we'll be gone from Pixie Hollow forever," Twilight announced and set her hooves firmly in the sand in preparation.

"Thank you all for helping us escape and trusting in us, we are very much in your debt," Rarity thanked.

"I'm going to miss seeing you all flying about and living your lives; I wish things could be different," Fluttershy lamented and shared a gentle embrace with Fawn and Rosetta.

"You're pretty fast, i only wish I could have showed you just how much faster I am," Rainbow joked and nudged Vidia back a bit.

"You're just lucky I had to help the other fast flyers back then," Vidia replied, seemingly haven lightened up a bit now that they were preparing to leave them.

"So tell me the truth: What's made of cotton candy around here besides cotton candy?" Pinkie questioned both Iridessa and Silvermist.

Sil shrugged at the comment but Iridessa seemed more genuinely concerned.

"What's cotton candy anyways?" Sil asked they both failed to give an answer.

"WHAT??" Pinkie gasped in shock upon realizing they didn't know what the delectible treat of cotton candy was. It was an unthinkable thought...and she was thinking about it! Rarity then collected Pinkie, who had gone into a candy coma or something similar after the realization that there was a dimension where cotton candy did not exist, or at least didn't exist in this part of the dimension.

"Ok, we're ready," Twilight announced as the portal opened, this time with much less of a threatening make up.

"Thanks again for the help," Applejack said as Rainbow took a step forward.

"What will you say to the Queen about all this?" The cyan pegasus pony asked, her expression losing all hints of frustration, pride, and perhaps even total surety it had since she arrived.

"We'll think up something, besides, Queen Clarion isn't usually like this; I'm sure once she finds out that you're gone things will get back to normal around here," Tink replied.

"Or perhaps she will be horrified to learn that there are traitors in our midsts," The voice of Lord Milori rang down from the sky. He rode down on his snow hawk with many other fairies, several of them being frost fairies.

"Get into the portal," Fawn shouted, "quick!"

"None of you shall be allowed to escape!" Milori commanded and released a thick coating of frost from his hands, the other winter fairies joining in thereafter.

Twilight expanded the size of the portal and allowed Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rainbow to head in, but that was when things went wrong.

A tinker fairy assault was mounted from behind the portal and Twilight barely managed to teleport away, but as a result of her sudden movement, her focus was lessened and the portal once more began to fluctuate.

Fawn, Iridessa, and Vidia were swallowed into the portal before they could even react, but then it closed down completely when Twilight was forced to teleport many more times.

Reluctantly, she retreated with Rosetta, Silvermist, Tink, Rarity, and Fluttershy as Milori and the other fairies hunted them down. The others had gone back to Equestria where help could hopefully be found, but until then, they were on their own.

...

The others teleported into the Canterlot throne room where Princess Celestia was taken aback by their sudden appearance.

The fairies were knocked out, but this time the ponies managed to retain consciousness, though they were still somewhat disorientated.

"Princess Celestia," Rainbow exclaimed, "something horrible happened. We need your help to save Twilight, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie!"

"I don't know what it is you're talking about," Celestia replied and got up from her throne, leaving behind the scroll she had been reading.

"It's a long story, Princess, but Twilight and the others are in danger!" AJ urged.

"And it appears that you three have gotten into quite a bit of trouble," The Solar Princess remarked.

"Yeah, their leaders were crazy! Somepony should have brought ice cream...but that might have made it worse, you know?" Pinkie answered.

"And now you've gotten into trouble here," Celestia announced as many guards emerged from the door.

"What? What's going on?" Rainbow cried out and put her back to those of her friends.

"Bringing these pixies here was a grave mistake," Celestia replied as her eyes lit up with magical power.
