The Order of the Watchful Wings

Long ago...9 years before Luna's banishment...

"Salas, there are evil ponies out there." Lucky held his son as an egg in his hooves. "Very evil ponies. Ponies who would want you for your powers." He sighed resting the egg on a flush red pillow next to his bed. "But not everypony is evil...There are ponies like me, who loves all."

A mare walked in chuckling. "Like me Lucky?" She smiled, waving her hips from side-to-side.

"Crystal, how was your day at the castle?" Lucky planted a kiss on his wife, smiling as they rubbed their noses. "Did you have any trouble?"

"No, the princesses were very helpful with our situation." She looked over at the yellow and red egg. "Has everything been okay? You've kept it warm?"

"I rested it in the coals of the fire for a couple hours while I was out shopping." He frowned, and his head dropped low, looking at the ground. "I wish I could work." He limped over to his bed. "This damn leg won't heal."

Crystal slowly approached Lucky. "You live up to your name hun...those Diamond Dogs are brutal." She kissed him on his forehead, then lifted Lucky's head to look into his eyes. "You're lucky that the princess was able to save you before..."

"I know..." Lucky sighed, looking at his son's egg.  "What do you think he'll see me as? I'm worried he'll hate me for whatever he turns out as."

Crystal's ears fell behind her head, and rubbed her head on Lucky's side. "As long as you and I love him, I don't think Salas will care." She lightened her frown to a slight smirk. "I'm glad I've had the chance to be with you Lucky. Though you're a pegasus, and I'm a unicorn....I'm glad this worked out. When Salas hatches, he'll be as strong as you, maybe stronger than Celestia!"

This brightened Lucky's mood, he hugged his wife with a tight embrace. "I love you Crystal...I don't know what I would've done if you hated me for what I did."

Crystal shook her head. "I can't have a foal of my own anyways. I was sworn into my guild to never have one, but they didn't say I couldn't love."

Salas rubbed his head as he turned over on a small rock he was sleeping on. Back in the forest, he found a weird tree that seemed to glow with warm light. It had six gems in the shapes of an apple, a crystal gem, a butterfly, a star, a red lighting bolt, and a odd looking shape that looked like a strange spear of some kind.

Shrugging he looked around inside the cave, a pink flower was in front of the tree, looking as though it had just bloomed with life bursting out. The tree gave off massive amounts of magical energies that made Salas cough from time to time. His lungs, in fact his whole body felt the pressure that pulsed in waves that purified the land around it.

Taking a few steps out of the cave he saw Celestia speaking with her student Twilight. It looked as though the sun was rising from the east in a calm manner, taking its time as it walled across the sky. Stretching out his arms, he gave a long, fulfilling yawn that helped his brain to start waking up.

He took his right hand, and licked it to pat down his green mane on his head, down to his tail. As he did this, Celestia looked down towards Salas, speaking inaudible words to her student on top of the cliff. The lavender mare nodded, trotting away into the forest in the directing of Ponyville. The princess, glad Twilight had left to return to Ponyville, flew gracefully down to meet Salas.

"Good morning Salas, I do hope you've slept well."

He nodded as he popped his back, moaning slightly as the air that was in between his bones were released. "It-ugh! Was alright...oh...yeah..." He scratched his back, and bowed to the princess. "And good morning princess to you too."

Celestia chuckled. "I know you only just woke up, but I can't but wonder who was your mother."

"A dragon, I thought I told you that...did I?" He asked himself under his breath.

"No, no, I ment the one who raised you."

Salas knocked on his head trying to think. What was her name..."I think it was...Crystal...Crystal...somethin'."

"I see...I figured as much."

"What is it? Did she do something wrong?!" Salas asked, stepping a bit closer. He felt her magical energy radiate off of her. It was like stepping on a beach on a warm summer day.

"Oh! No!" Celestia said shaking her head. "She was a student of mine before Luna left. She showed much of her own power, and asked for a spell to hatch a dragon egg."

"Mine?!"

Celestia smiled. "I think so...but I still don't understand why Hazel would do what she did." She lowered her head. "I've tried looking in the Celestial Plane for several hours, but her memories or the memories of her guild can be seen."

Salas huffed in annoyance, waving his claw towards Celestia. "Don't worry...I know things'll get better princess, but thank you for trying."

Celestia smiled. "For one who was afraid of us two days ago, you've warmed up to my sister and I well, although I still don't know why you continue to despise my student." She raised a brow. "Do you hold a grudge?"

Salas nodded slowly. "I want to act on my parent's death. They suffered a fate I could live through because of me, and that unicorn."  He looked to the sky, watching the wild clouds move in slow motion. "I understand and forgive you and your sister for my fate, but I refuse to just let something like this slide. Whether or not she did it, it's the family name that must suffer."

Celestia's smile vanished. "I hope you will not harm anypony. I understand that you are mad, and was bound when you were only six. However, you must know that planning to murder is outlawed in its own sense, planning to murder a princess could get you back in that cave." She sighed heavily. "Please, I wish to maintain peace in Equestria as long as possible."

Salas nodded, looking back at the princess. "I want something in return then." He said as his eyes began to change black, and his pupils turned white.

Celestia took a step back, her heart rate started to pick up slightly. "A-and what would that be?"

"Balance..." He said with reverb in his voice. "I suffered for no reason other than my existence, and I cannot do what I wish in your lands."

"What would you like to...balance the scales?" She asked, calming down from her initial shock.

"I want her..."

Celestia's eyes opened wide with shock as she took a sharp inhale. "W-what do you mean?"

"I want her..." He repeated. "I'll do what I must, but in the end, she'll be mine. She'll serve me until she repays her debts her family has caused."

Celestia stomped her hoof down, shaking her head. "I will not allow such acts. She is royalty, and will not be treated as a slave!" She stepped closer getting into Salas's face. "Understand?!"

His face scrunched up in disgust. "Get out of my face...I am a half-dragon, so your magic will not work on me. Place spells all you want to shield me from her, but, I will make sure I get what I want." He pushed her back. "I've done nothing to deserve my fate Princess Celestia! I've suffered, and will continue to mourn over my parent's death because of what I am!" His eyes turned blue as tears began to steam down his face. "I WANT MY FAMILY! BUT I CAN'T HAVE IT! BECAUSE OF THAT DAMN SPARKLE!" They turned purple as he continued to cry, punching a tree to the ground with a single swing of his fist. "IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?! TO HAVE MY FAMILY BACK!?"

"You know I no pony can bring a pony back once their soul has passed on!" Celestia shot back, although she didn't shout despite it all. "Salas, I'm sure you can think of something else other than to have Twilight Sparkle dead or as your slave! Everypony owes the elements of harmony, which includes Twilight mind you, their lives...even me..." She teleported in front of Salas. "You may contact me at any point in time when you do. Until then, do as I say since you live in my kingdom, and don't lay a hand on her unless it is a bucking hug." Celestia turned around. "I live in the east tower in Canterlot, you have means to fly there, so when you've made up your mind..." She teleported away before she finished, leaving Salas alone in the woods outside of the cave he slept in.
