Wasteland to Wonderland
Chapter 13
Previous Chapter Next ChapterJason breathed slowly and steadily as he slowly raised another set of hooves above the next few steps. Around the complex, some ponies were watching his pathetic ascension of the staircase. He did not pay them any mind, however, and instead focused on balancing himself as he rose up each step, trying to keep from teetering or falling back. After what seemed like hours of climbing, Jason finally made contact with the floor of the second level, and quickly hopped up.
When he regained his footing, he looked back to the stairs, where Dogmeat was standing at the base, looking up at him. In the span of seconds, the canine climbed the stairs with incredible ease. The Wanderer scowled down at his companion.
"Shut up." He growled.
Dogmeat merely panted and wagged his tail as Jason turned towards the row of doors and scanned for the familiar number. At the very end on his left, right next to the extension of the main building, was the room number. He walked towards the door and pulled out the key before pushing it in, twisted it, and opened the door.
Inside was a simple room with wooden surfaces and furniture. There was a chest and a desk beside it on the right side of the room, while the bed and two doors were on the left. The bed itself was far simpler than the last one he slept in. There were shelves with a few books by the opposite wall, and had a nice picture of a field.
"It's nice." He said to no one.
Jason stepped in and hefted his bags over to the table while the door closed behind him. Dogmeat proceeded to hop onto the bed and curl up into a ball as Jason began to empty out his weapons onto the desk. He examined the 10mm and looked through his bags again, looking for the right ammunition. After finding a box labeled with the desired type, he pulled out a magazine and pushed it into the empty slot of the pistol.
He left the gun there as he examined the Tesla Cannon for a bit, pulling out his Utility Suit from his bags and acquiring his tools. Every inch and bolt was observed and noted by the Wanderer as he examined the weapon until he was sure that it was in working condition. After checking it, he pushed the chest open with a hoof and placed the Cannon inside, leaving the top open for the rest of his belongings. Jason went over to another of his bags and searched around for another bottle of Vodka. Once found, he placed it on the desk as he laid out the Power Fist, Hunting Rifle, and Sawed-Off Shotgun.
"Might as well take inventory." He stated before popping the cap off of the drink and gulping down the ambrosia.

Applejack counted off the last of the bits as she placed another empty small box by the mobile apple stand. She had finally gotten around to sorting out the bits from her last few days of working the stand in the market, and it was looking good. There was a higher profit margin than last year's, which had already grown since the year prior to that. She gave a sigh of pride, knowing that her parents would be proud at how well she was managing the family business.
The farm pony grabbed another of the boxes and dumped out the contents on the desk, and heard a series of clanks that differed from the rest of the bits. When she looked, there rested three bottle caps with the words, "Nuka Cola" scribbled on in some fancy way. She knew of only one pony who had given her these, and remembered also, what Rarity had told her about their value.
"Aw, ponyfeathers!" She whispered before sorting them out from the rest of the pile.
After counting off a total of 87 bits, she piled them into a bag, and placed it on the cart for when she went into Ponyville.
"Sure hope he'll be 'round there today." She said to herself before beginning to load in the apples.

"I... wow." Was all Prop could say when the Guard finished talking to him.
They were currently inside of the office building attached to the complex, discussing the new pony known as "The Wanderer".
"Exactly how I reacted." The Guard said. "I still can't believe that he's out of the hospital!"
Prop shook his head in disbelief.
"I can't even... I can see why Celestia herself recommends this."
"Indeed. We could use somepony like him in the reserves. So which room did you say he was in?"
"Room 101. It's upstairs on the right, just up those stairs, or you could use the ramp on the other side of the building."
The Guard shifted a bit in his armor, feeling a bit of a burn from the heavy straps.
"You know, I think I'll do just that. Have a fine day, sir." The Guard said before going to the door.

Jason carefully examined the gears of the Auto-Axe and lightly picked out every single bit of flesh that caught in it, discarding them into a waste bin he kept by the desk. He was surprised to see how much of the actual device was clogged with the chunks of Raiders and Slavers as opposed to the only occasional green bits from Super Mutants. He knew that he'd have to do something with the accumulating stack of ravaged meat, and luckily, Jason had found out two things: the bathroom had a toilet, and that toilets were almost identical to the ones he was used to. Although using one in the new body was rather troubling.
The unicorn brought a soaked rag by the device and began to clean the blades. As he absentmindedly wiped the weapon of bloodstains, he looked down into the basked, about as big as the Shotgun he had, was filled up, almost half-way. He sighed as he raised up his Pip-Boy and checked the Rad count: 885. His little chat with Celestia had given him quite a recharge, and after he explored the bathroom in his small amount of time in there, he learned that all of the water was irradiated. Still, he figured that since it took more Rads, or magic, as they call it, to handle the recoil of a weapon, he had to make sure that he should stay well above 500 before he should try and fight again.
A knock at the door brought Jason's attention back to the world outside his little tinkering.
"Who's there?" He called to the door.
"Royal Guard, with a message from Princess Celestia herself." Was the response.
Jason eyed the door with suspicion before reaching with his magic and pulling out the Sawed-Off Shotgun and checking the contents to confirm that it was indeed still loaded. He held it out to the side and approached the door. When he reached it, he slowly opened it so that he could meet the armored pegasus, face to face, his Shotgun floating on the other side of the door, aimed at his head, just in case.
"Can I help you?" Jason asked.
"You are the one known as, "The Wanderer," correct?"
"Yes, I am. Care to tell me what brings you here?" Jason asked.
"We received word from the Princess when she visited our station here in Ponyville, and have come to ask you something."
Jason ceased his suspicion when he heard that the Guard just wanted to ask something, and slowly put the Shotgun on the table.
"So what's the question?"
"We would like to know if you would accept an invitation to become a Royal Regulator."
Jason was shocked at the title, especially what it implied for him, and began to question the Guard.
"Why do you want me to join your ranks?"
"Oh, no, you misunderstand. You won't be getting any kind of armor or training for the job, since it's only available by recommendation of Officers or anypony with enough authority. And the Princess was rather impressed by your skills while saving those two young ponies earlier."
"So, what, I just walk around town and make sure no one commits any crimes?" He asked.
"Sort of. While you do that, we may call you in for backup in case there's a situation that we can't handle, or don't have enough hooves for. You'd basically be waiting until we call you in for action, or you could spend your time working with local problems that the main Guards don't have time for."
Jason nodded.
"Alright then, I accept."
The Guard smiled widely before opening a wing and showing him a small badge with the Sun and Moon in a Yin-Yang fashion.
"This is your official badge. You can hide it anywhere you'd like, so long as you only show it during times when necessary."
Jason picked up the badge with his magic and nodded once again.
"Thanks."
The Guard nodded and turned to leave, but Jason spoke up again.
"Hold on a second. Can I ask you something?"
"Um, sure?"
"How'd you get up those stairs in that armor?"
The Guard looked to the stairs behind him and spoke.
"Oh, I didn't take the stairs. There's a ramp on the opposite side of the building."
Jason stared blankly at the pegasus as he slowly closed the doors.
"I'll start in a few hours." Was all he said before shutting the door and inhaling deeply.

The forest was massive, stretching out in a million different rises and falls before the large being. He felt the light from the Sun glisten off of his skin, however deformed it may be. In his grip was a large chunk of metal, carefully put together to be a powerful weapon at close range. Hefted onto his back were several items, such as a large black box that held two large battery-like objects together, a metal object that could, at best, be described as a series of metal sticks and a small staff to hold it up by, which also supported a small trigger mechanism, and finally, a simple carrying bag. A large green hand patted the bag as the large being stood tall before his march.
"I still hope you're alive, friends."
