Chapter 10

Twilight and Applejack went through the automatic doors to the hospital and galloped straight for the back, near the intensive care ward. Upon reaching the waiting area, they found Rarity, who was pacing back and forth by the chairs, muttering pleads for Sweetie Belle's health. To the opposite side of the room was Button Mash and his mother, who was holding him tightly, smiling widely as they both cried into each other. Beside them was, surprisingly, Fluttershy, who was sitting next to Dogmeat, who was staring at the door and whimpering as she stroked his back with a hoof.

"There, there, boy," She cooed, "I'm sure he'll be alright. He's had worse, right? That is what you said earlier."

Dogmeat gave a few noises that couldn't be understood by anypony who wasn't Fluttershy, and earned a hug from the butter-yellow mare.

"Fluttershy? Why are you here?" Twilight asked.

Fluttershy turned her head and gave a soft frown as she patted Dogmeat's head.

"Oh, Dogmeat," She shivered slightly saying the canine's name, "came barking up to my house, crying up about how he was scared of his friend going to the hospital, I knew that I just had to be here for him."

"Which 'him'?" Applejack asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Why, for both of them, of course. If you could understand this little fella," She said while rubbing his side, prompting the dog to roll over for tummy rubs, "you'd cry how much they care for each other. It's so sweet."

Twilight watched as Fluttershy wiped a tear from her face, oblivious to the stream that had already poured out and stained her coat, and thought about the new pony from an even more interesting prospective. She knew that she had to press further.

"What does, Dogmeat, say about him?" Twilight asked, nearly choking on the name.

Fluttershy shifted herself in the chair before clearing her throat.

"Dogmeat?" She asked the canine, causing him to shift his ears towards her. "Would you like to tell us about your friend, um... starting with his name?"

Dogmeat gave a few noises and a bark Fluttershy spoke again.

"He said that unless his master," Dogmeat barked, "Oh, sorry... unless his friend, tells us his name himself, he's not going to use it, so we should keep calling him 'The Wanderer,' for now."

Twilight shook her head.

"I can't... even his dog, doesn't use his actual name?"

"Oh, no, not that, it's just that he said when talking about him to others that don't know yet. Dogmeat says that he doesn't want to insult their relationship by breaking their trust."

The mares that were listening were struck by this with intrigue as the dog continued to make sounds while whining slightly, occasionally looking to the doors.

"Aww," She said with a sad tone.

"What's he saying?" Twilight asked.

Before an answer could come, however, the doors opened, and gave way to a unicorn stallion in a doctor's coat, holding a clipboard in his magic, standing next to one-

"SWEETIE BELLE!" Rarity cried out, nearly tackling into her sister.

The two cried as they hugged tightly, while the doctor flipped through the papers.

"I must say, she's quite lucky that stallion found her."

Twilight came up to the doctor as she spoke.

"Why? What happened?"

"Well, when we brought in her and young Mr. Button Mash, they said that she had stepped in a... bear trap." He stated, scanning the page.

Rarity gasped and held Sweetie Belle out.

"A bear trap!? Oh, dear sister, why are you up, walking!? You should be resting, or in a wheelchair, or anything else besides-"

"Oh, no, no, no, no, Miss Rarity," The doctor interrupted, "she doesn't need anything like that. In fact, I'd say that she should be fully healed by next week."

"What?" She asked, freezing in place. "How?"

"Well, she told us what that..." He scanned through the papers, "Wanderer? Who'd name their foal that? Bah, doesn't matter. Anyways, young Ms. Sweetie Belle told us that when she was caught in it, he got her out and treated her right then and there, in the cave with the Diamond Dogs. She said that he pried it open with his own hooves, and gave her medicine as well."

"He..." Rarity trailed off, looking towards the doors, "he did... that? For her?"

"I'd say so. Whatever medicine he used was able to heal the deeper parts of the wound, and luckily enough, it missed her nerves by only a few millimeters. He even knew the proper procedure for disinfecting the wound and splinting the leg. If he hadn't done what he did, I honestly doubt we would've been able to save the leg at all. If you'll excuse me, I have to go check on him."

With that, the doctor left the group in the waiting room, thinking ever more so about the fate of the unicorn they had just met.

Jason found himself slowly regaining consciousness as a massive throbbing in his head woke him up. Painfully, he opened his eyes and looked out into the world around him, instantly shutting his eyes as light flooded his vision. He let out a groan and slowly tried to pull himself up, but found himself bounded by pings of something in his arms... or forelegs, actually. With some strain, Jason managed to open his eyes again, and found himself in a white room that practically blinded him with how sterile its colors alone were. He looked down and saw that his arms were being penetrated by several needles, connected to tubes that went beyond his vision. Jason tried to move his forelegs, but was caught in a light blue aura, which also started a small clicking sound from the Wanderer's left foreleg.

"I can't believe you're even alive right now, let alone awake." A masculine voice stated from somewhere in the room.

Jason struggled to move his head, and managed to switch his gaze to the side of the room, where, in the doorway, stood a new pony. He, judging by the stance and voice, had brown hair that was clearly combed, a light brown coat, a white jacket, a pair of glasses on the bridge of his snout, and a horn in the center of his forehead. Around the horn was a faint blue glow that matched the one around Jason's forelegs, allowing Jason to connect the dots in the straight path they were placed so bluntly before him.

"Let go." He said in a dry voice.

The unicorn shook his head before bringing out a large folder and placing it onto a flat surface along the wall next to him. With a flip of the switch, a diagram of a pony's skeleton came up. This one, however, was different to the ones in the books Jason had read. This one had massive amounts of fractures, unknown substances around the edges of the outline, clearly representing the skin. The bones were all looking far thicker than they should, and on the right foreleg was a large lump, that Jason could already tell from the shape what it was.

"An X-ray of my skeleton." Jason stated. "Why are you showing me this?"

"Because I doubt you should even be breathing." The doctor said with a bit of anger. "Look, here. You have nearly 87 bits of shrapnel lodged... EVERYWHERE, in your body. Your bones are laced with, some kind of metal, that we can't even scan because it's sewn into you bones, your foreleg-mounted, thing, keeps ticking whenever somepony tries to use a healing spell on you, and we can't focus our magic on your actual wounds, or trying to magically scan you, because you literally pull in the magic like a magnet! Not to mention the mutations we've found underneath your fur, dear Sisters in Canterlot. The closest thing we can connect it to, of all things, is a plant. A TREE, good sir. Your skin is actually performing photosynthesis, as we speak, and we can't even begin to hypothesize how in Tartarus you're managing to even keep yourself together, and now here you are, awake!" The doctor began to pant as he finished ranting, before stomping up to him and looking him straight in the eye, anger pouring from his eyes. "You. Are. Not. Possible." He growled.

Jason held back a chuckle before retorting.

"Believe me, if there's one thing I know, it's that you shouldn't call anything 'impossible'."

The doctor gave him a stern look before turning around and walking out the door. When he left, the ticking from the Pip-Boy stopped as well, alongside the pressure from the magic holding him down.

"Stay in there!" The doctor shouted from the hallway before closing the door.

Jason sighed a bit before raising the Pip-Boy up to his face. He checked to make sure they didn't fuck anything up on his most valuable piece of tech from the Vault. Thankfully, everything was how he kept it. The maps were all blank, due to no satellites existing yet, probably, or that he was tuned onto the wrong settings. Either way, the personal messages and recordings were all there, including the music from Three-Dog's generous donations. He checked the STATS section, and found that the Pip-Boy had changed alongside him. Instead of the regular Vault-Boy representation, it was a pony version with the Vault insignia on its back end. Luckily, it showed perfect health across the board.

"Why do I feel so weak, then?" He asked himself.

That's when Jason looked to the Rad counter and found it at 298.

"Wait a minute..."

Jason began to remember when he first arrived in Equestria, that his Rad count was over 2,000, and after his encounter with the Dogs, and after a solid night of using magic to read, he was down to 120 before passing out.

"Great. Now I have to make sure I'm fucking irradiated." He sighed before plopping his head back onto the soft pillow. "Of course I couldn't just die. It's never that easy for me."

The remaining mares had opted to wait for news on the newest Ponyvillian, as opposed to going straight to their homes and waiting for news there. Rarity simply sat and stared at Sweetie Belle as the filly napped away on one of the waiting room chairs. The doors opened to reveal Nurse Redheart, looking between several files with disbelief in her eyes. Twilight approached her and spoke.

"Are you here about the Wanderer?" She asked.

"You mean that unicorn with more metal in him than a sword?" She replied.

"What'cha mean by that?" Applejack inquired.

"X-rays came back showing massive amounts of shrapnel lodged in him."

The mares in the room all gasped, save for Rarity, who rose a hoof to her mouth while tears gathered in her eyes.

"Wha... shrapnel? How..." Twilight couldn't finish.

"Are you kidding? He's got more than that on his plate." She began to flip through the papers on the clipboard. "He's got unknown mutations across his entire body, his bones have some kind of metal infused with them, and he's got more scars than... I honestly don't think there's anything on this planet with that many scars... Dragon, maybe? I don't know, but practically every inch of him's got some kind of scar."

The group was entirely shocked by this. How could he have gotten these from just Diamond Dogs?

"Is... is he going to..." Fluttershy tried to speak.

"Hah!" Nurse Redheart practically shouted. "You kidding? You think we're dumbfounded by some corpse with all this? No, strangest part, right now, he's awake! It's like he's barely effected at all!"

The mares all looked at each other in stunned silence as the Nurse went back to sorting through the papers present on her clipboard. Behind them, the clopping of hooves came up with force. They all turned to find Celestia coming up to them with a squad of Solar Guards.

"Princess!" Twilight shouted before stopping short of bowing.

"Hello, Twilight. I see that... The Wanderer, has made himself acquainted with all of you, then?"

The mares all began to nod as Celestia went up to the doorway.

"I need to speak with him on... matters." She said with a stoic look.

Rarity sucked on her lower lip before speaking.

"Um Princess Celestia?" She asked from her seat. "Could you... let him know, that if he comes by my shop, I'd be glad to fix his little jacket, free of charge."

The alicorn stared at the alabaster mare for a few seconds before nodding slightly.

"I'll be sure to let him know."

With that, the Solar Princess opened the doors and walked through the halls.

Jason perked his head up when he heard a knocking at the door to his room before the door open regardless of his input, and in walked Celestia. The moment she entered the room, however, Jason heard the Pip-Boy begin to tick away, feeling the Rad-Regen mutagen already putting the ambient magic in the air to good use. Behind her, a pair of ponies, one pegasus and one unicorn, clad in golden armor, also walked in, and stared at him. Jason merely looked on at them as Celestia began to speak.

"I'd like to talk to this patient alone. I'd prefer it if we weren't interrupted."

"Of course, your majesty." One of the Guards said before bowing and leaving the room, the unicorn closing the door behind him.

The moment the door closed, Jason spoke.

"If you're trying to scare me, then fuck off."

Celestia narrowed her eyes at him before speaking once more.

"We really need to talk."

Author's Notes:

Why?

Because LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE F^CKING CROSSOVER STORY AT ONE POINT HAS THE CHARACTER INVOLVED WITH THE TAG GOING TO THE MOTHERB^CKING HOSPITAL.

Now I have to go bang my head against a keyboard because I just used the term "bucking" in an actual sentence. Maybe I'll end up writing a new game with a more coherent story line than Thief 4.

UNNECESSARY VIDEO GAME REFERENCE JOKE! WHERE'S MY MONEY!?

Sorry it's so short, but it's like 11:20 PM here in Texas, and I have a college-level essay due tomorrow that I haven't even started. Don't worry, Jason and Celestia will argue like there's no tomorrow as soon as I have time to write!
