Chapter 1: Chapter 1. Dumb Luck

Chapter 1. Dumb Luck

"Cold, yet soft, everything around me feels as if it was snow," I groggily thought as I opened my eyes, to my astonishment, everything around me, or the ground, considering I was in some sort of wasteland, was covered in snow.

"Everything around me is snow! The bloody hell!" I yelled bitterly as I stood up from the freezing, snow-coated ground.

Everything, everything is white, a blizzard seems to be battering this land without any signs of relenting; the blizzard was extremely violent to the point where I had difficulty just trying not to stagger back down.

"My head... it hurts. What the hell happened? How- how in the world did I get here?" I realized that I wasn't even wearing that much protection from the cold, I was only wearing a pair of black pants, a white undershirt, and a black jacket. No, not the kind of jacket that provides protection from this degree of snow.

Then I realized, I shouldn't even be breathing right now, or at the very least, be suffering from a severe level of frostbite, "No time to panic," I shivered as the chilling winds engulfed me in their icy grasp.

"There must be something I can use as sanctuary from this cold," I said to no one. I looked around warily, I highly doubt that anyone could find me, hell, I don't even know where I am!

With a pained groaned, I began searching for shelter, or anything that I may deem useful, or beneficial to my survival.

I feel as if my internal organs are completely encased in ice, yet, I still live, I still breathe. I'm basically confounded, but otherwise, still grateful to be still living.

I walked, and I walked, my hands tuck in my jacket, it was really a vain attempt to keep them somewhat warm. There was nothing in these lands except for the white, snow-covered grounds.

I persisted on walking, I refuse to lay down and simply die. I looked upwards to the sky, the sun was nearing its end, night will soon arrive.

I sighed, I couldn't remember anything, how did I get here? Why am I here? My mind can't function efficiently than usual, mostly due to the overwhelmingly cold winds that are constantly trying to batter me into a pulp.

The snow was thick, but nothing too ludicrous. Thankfully, it wasn't knee-deep or any of the sorts, that would've hindered my already poor mobility.

I kept wandering through the barren, frozen wasteland in random directions in search for anything. To be honest, after finding nothing repeatedly, I lost all hope of surviving this nightmarish lands.

To make matters worse, night finally crept in, mitigating my range of vision, which was already poor as it was, considering the blizzard's intensity.

Finally, through the darkness, I saw something glow, I assumed it was a hallucination, something that my mind conjured to torment me. Nonetheless, I approached it.

It was some sort of... pitch-black horn, with a red tint on the top, aforementioned tint appeared to become less visible as it ran down to the base of the horn until it was completely absent.

Something felt off about this horn, it was radiating some sort of aura, I've no words on how to accurately define, except for vague, and ominous.

I bent down to inspect it more intently, to my surprise, it was giving off slight amounts of heat, the warmth of the horn could be felt from where I crouched, which was impressive, considering that this blizzard is basically an extremity of cold.

Desperate for anything warm, I grabbed it. But, once my frozen hand touched it, a jet-black haze shot out from the horn, and into my chest. I felt like screaming, not because of pain, mind you, it didn't even sting, but, only because I was startled... greatly.

But, I lacked the energy to do so, as this accursed blizzard sapped all of my energy, rendering me completely fatigued. Anyways, back to the horn.

The stream of dark haze flowed into my chest, it didn't last too long, but, it did leave me slightly frightened, and completely dumbfounded.

But, I could feel as if something was off, something unusual. Then I realized, both of my hands were both emitting the same dark haze, this time, the dark haze had a the colors of green and purple this time.

If I wasn't so exhausted, I would've probably screamed in surprise, instead, I flailed my hands in an attempt to rid the haze from them.

The results were intriguing, to say the least, as I flailed my hands, small orbs were launched from my hands, detonating as it impacted the snow.

I was stunned, but, I returned my attention to my hands, this time, I ceased my flailing. I simply stared at my hands, and I thought to myself, "Dammit, what is this? Why can't I get rid of it? Begone, you damned haze."

Just as I said that, the haze dissipated, no longer present on both of my hands. I was sincerely shocked due to that actually working. I shook my head, "The bloody hell? I- I must be hallucinating. No, yes? Possibly? Gah, I can't think straight, curse this cold."

With a disgruntled groan, I treading through the unbearably freezing wasteland. The very fact that I was still standing was an impeccable feat.

Then, I saw what I refused to be within reality's boundaries, land, grass-filled land. And just beyond the horizon of that land were crystal formations of some sort.

I wasted no time to scurry off towards it, still not believing what I am currently seeing. Finally, I stepped onto the grassy turfs of land, I could almost instantly notice the insane difference of temperature between here and the frozen wasteland.

I collapsed instantaneously and fell into the grass, I would most likely turn into a psychopath, should this be just a mirage. I smiled slightly as I closed my eyes, the torture I had to endure drained all of my strength to go any further.

And then I let slumber grasp me within its blissful embrace.

All of a sudden, I heard voices, although, I couldn't discern whatever they were saying, they were far too garbled. Judging by the volume of the voice, I'd say they were relatively close to me, to be more specific, they can probably prod me with a stick to see if I'm still alive distance.

Finally, the voices grew clearer, and finally, I can decipher whatever they were saying.

"Do you think it's still alive?" a voice asked, from the sound of it, the owner of aforementioned voice is female.

"I'm not sure, should we, um, check?" another voice replied, this time, the being in possession of said voice is a male.

I decided to reply, "Well, if all of you are so inquisitive to see if I'm still breathing or not, does this answer your conundrum?" I spoke in a half-agitated tone.

This seemed to have alarmed them slightly, as I heard them collectively gasp. I opened my eyes, expecting to see fellow human beings, but instead of that, I get what appears to be horses.

Yes, you heard me right, horses. The male one appeared to have a mane with a deep shade of blue, his eyes were moderate-cerulean, to make things more absurd. His pelt was that of a turquoise-ish white.

Equines aren't supposed to possess moderate-cerulean eyes, can they? Gah! To hell with everything, I still have problems thinking coherently.

Oh, and of course, the blue-maned horse had a unicorn, what does that make him? Surely, I don't need to tell you, it meant that he was a unicorn. Her coat possessed the color of pale pink, her mane was violet, with moderately rose, and pale gold streaks.

There was another equine-esque entity standing beside him, this time, it was a pink unicorn- no, wait, she has wings, so I assume that she's some sort of hyrbid between a unicorn and a pegasus, or something of the sorts?

We exchanged glances, for both of us were unable to speak, my mind was malfunctioning as I was trying to comprehend at the scenario, and they were probably as dumbfounded as I am, albeit, slightly less confused.

Then, I finally made my conclusion, "I've gone insane, didn't I?" I said, much to the equines' disbelief.

"Um, I'm not sure, well did you?" the unicorn asked.

"Hmph, I think I might have, unless, you actually exist, which is unlikely." I responded.

"Well, you don't seem insane. You look exhausted, do you, um, need someplace to rest?" the pink hybrid inquired. Well, isn't that pleasant of her?

"I can't bear taking another step, heh, I think I'll just... lay here." I said, still exhausted from my little jaunt in the desolate, cold wilderness.

"Well, if you'd like, we can let you stay in the castle-"

"A castle, you say? Huh, I did go insane. But you'll have to refer to my previous sentence, I can't bear another step. So, unless you're planning on dragging me all the way there, I suggest that you leave me be." I stated.

I closed my eyes once more, expecting them to depart. No, that wouldn't do, instead of leaving me alone, I felt as I was being lifted by an unforeseen force, "Hey- what the!" I said in a startled state as I opened my eyes.

I was being carried in the air, apparently. This seemed to be the unicorn's doing, as there was light rose aura engulfing me and his horn, or so I assumed.

"Huh, so you do plan on dragging me all the way there." was all that I could mutter. They didn't bother replying to me, for some odd reason, they must feel uncomfortable talking to someone like me, probably.

And so they dragged me all the way back there little castle, via telekinetic hold. So these equines can seemingly wield magic, at this point, my mind ceased to function completely. Although, the feeling of levitation is an odd experience.

Huh, magic, why am I not surprise? I mean, I basically had some sort of black, thick mist engulfing my hands a while ago, and I also lobbed an explosive orb into the ground, however, I'm no longer sure if that was just my mind toying with me, or if it was in fact real.

They had to cross some sort of establishment, surprise, surprise, the inhabitants were also equines, to get to the castle. Did I mention that these ponies had some sort of crystallized bodies, or something? They appear to be made entirely out of crystals.

Of course, all of them glanced at me with a dumbfounded look, or occasionally, curiosity. Oh, and sometimes disgust.

It didn't actually that long for me, and my equine "captors" to get to the castle. Once we were in it, I had to just retract my previous sentence about their castle being small, it was fairly large.

The interior, and exterior, of the castle were mostly comprised of crystals, if not completely comprised of it. The halls of the castle had guards stationed, not too many, but just enough. They too glanced at me peculiarly.

Finally, we reached what appears to be a lounge. The lounge, comprised of several sofas with tables set before aforementioned sofas. The glass windows within the room had blinders with intricate embroidery, which were not in use, currently.

There was a chandelier, which was made of crystals, by the way, hanging on the ceiling, giving the room fair amounts of light. Additionally, there was also a fireplace, which was a god-sent to me, present within the room.

Thankfully, they placed me on the couch that was closest to the fireplace, the warmth being emitted from the flames were refreshing.

"Many thanks, I suppose. This sofa is indefinitely more comfortable than a patch of grass." I thanked as I sat upright. The two equines sat to a sofa, placed just across the table that was set before mine.

"Sure, um, no problem. So, uh- what are you?" the pink hybrid asked.

"Me? Well, I guess my kind is non-existent here?" I said, "Hm, well, to answer that, I am what is colloquially known as a human, if you wish to get the binomial nomenclature, my race is also known as homo sapiens." I stated.

"Humans?" the blue-maned unicorn repeated, "Certainly didn't heard of your kind before." he added.

"So, how did you get here?" the unicorn asked.

"Honestly, I've not a single clue." I replied.

"Wait, don't you remember that letter Twily gave us, dear?" the blue-maned unicorn asked.

"Huh? Oh yes, something about portals?" the pink one replied.

Portals, that word struck me, for some odd reason. Suddenly, I could remember it now, I was... eating breakfast, no, or was it lunch? Gah, that's irrelevant. I was eating with my... brother. Yes, now I remember!

Then, without even a warning, some sort of vortex opened up, it pulled in both me and my brother. So, what the hell happened to him! Wait, no, that's right. He didn't make it, he was ripped apart, right in front of me, by the vortex's power.

No... I remember his screams. No! Gah. terrible. It was terrible.

"Um, pardon me? Is something the matter, mister- uh, we never quite caught your name?" the pink unicorn-pegasus asked.

"My name? How odd, I can't remember it." I admitted.

"That is odd, not being able to remember your own name." the unicorn remarked.

"No matter, I'm certain that I'll regain my memories in time, so, continue, something about this "Twily" character and portals?"

"Ah, yes. My sister-in-law, Twilight Sparkle, was working on some sort of portal-creation spell, she sent this letter about a week ago, I think she might've completed her spell, and created a portal."

"Hm, so this Twilight Sparkle character has been allocating her efforts on some sort of spell that can conjure portals? That probably explains the reason why I'm here." I said, keeping the facade on.

"Well, we'll go contact her of your arrival immediately, you don't mind us leaving you alone, do you?"

"Hm? Not at all, take your time. If you don't mind, I'm going to sleep, the blizzard is taking a toll on me."

They nodded in response, soon enough, they left the room.

"So, they're the reason why I almost died? They're the reason why my brother died a horrific death?" I muttered silently, "Well then, a bit of vengeance is in order." I growled.

Author's Note:

Just a little something for the LoHAV group.

I have three LoHAV stories now. Now you might be asking why, I'll tell you, I simply like villains. :3

Also, no pre-readers. :/

Note: Mr. NoName did not absorb much of Sombra's magic, as the dark magic within the horn diminished over time.
