Chapter 4: A Real Brawl

A Real Brawl

Rainbow opened the door for her friend to come in. Flashing Skies looked good; smelled good; he was altogether a great colt.

"So you're Flashing Skies." Rainbow's father inspected the colt. "Welcome. If you prove yourself tonight, I'll let you be with my daughter."

"Yes sir." Flashing Skies said.

"C'mon, let's go in my room. We can watch TV or something." Rainbow suggested.

It was such a perfect night; her brothers and mom were gone (Firefly had a bit of anxiety in the past couple of years.), her dad was in a good mood, and it was nice and warm.

The two sat on Dash's bed, watching TV together.

***

"Why not?!" Soarin protested.

"Just don't invite her? Okay, we can have a guys night tonight!" Hoop said.

"You're hiding something from me." Soarin growled, "I'm not dumb."

"Soarin, please, just listen to me. She's busy." Hoop said, getting tired of Soarin's complaining.

"You know what?! You're being ridiculous! You can go hang out with everypony else we spent the night with. I'm getting her!"  Soarin flew out of Hoop's room and out of his door.

"Soarin!" Hoop yelled.

Oh crap, he's going to find out about Flashing. Oh, no, no no!

***

There was a ring on Rainbow's doorbell, and Rainbow Blaze got up to answer. Outside was another colt.

"Who are you?" Rainbow Blaze asked.

"I'm Rainbow's friend, Soarin. And I'm Hoop's friend. I came here to invite Rainbow over to Hoop's." Soarin replied.

"Oh, uh, she's sort of busy right now, Soarin. You should come back tomorrow." Rainbow Blaze said, nervous.

He was so proud to see his little filly grow up into a beautiful mare. He didn't want this night of her's to be ruined.

"Can I just tell her something real quick, then?" Soarin asked.

"Uh, sure." Rainbow Blaze replied, and let the young colt in.

Soarin trotted up the stairs and was about to knock on Rainbow's door when he heard...

Giggling?

And then there was a slop.

What the buck?! he thought, and opened the door and saw exactly what he didn't want to.

His jaw dropped. Rainbow Dash. With a stallion. Making out with him. They didn't even notice Soarin for a few seconds. The stallion noticed him first.

"Rainbow, why is there a colt at your door?" he asked.

"What?" Rainbow replied, and looked up. She gasped.

SHIT, SHIT, SHIT, SHIT, CELESTIA SIZED SHIT! she thought.

She flew from the bed.

"OH, um, hi Soarin!" she acted like nothing happened.

Soarin, on the other hoof, remembered everything.

His face couldn't be described as anything more than jealous anger.

His wings twitched.

"Um, Dash, is he okay?" Flashing asked.

"Hey, I'm going to go next door for a few minutes to drop something off, Rainbow! I'll be back." Rainbow heard her father call from the downstairs.

"Uh, okay dad, bye!" Rainbow called back.

Everypony heard a door shut.

Once that door shut, Soarin leaped from the ground and pinned Flashing.

"WHAT THE BUCK ARE YOU DOING WITH RAINBOW DASH?!" he punched Flashing under the jaw.

"Soarin!" Rainbow yelped. She really wished she had Hoop's number right now.

Flashing looked confused and he kicked Soarin off him.

"Who the hell is he, Rainbow?!" Flashing called as he held down the struggling pegasus.

"He's my friend! From school! I have no idea why he's acting like this!" Rainbow cried. She really did know why, though. As if it weren't crystal clear obvious, Soarin had been crushing on her, and he was too jealous to think.

The two ponies fought into the hallway.

For a minute, Rainbow Dash let herself admire the fact that two stallions were fighting over her. But then she flew out the door and into the sky, towards Hoop's house. She swung open the door.

"HOOP!" she screamed, "I NEED HELP, NOW!"

Hoop came soaring, and followed her back into Rainbow's yard.

There, the two stallions found their way into the cloud-grown grass. They were fighting pretty hard now. She saw Soarin's nose bleed.

"Okay, break it up!" Hoop yelled, and held the two ponies apart.

They stared at each other with hatred.

Rainbow galloped to Flashing Skies. "Flashing, please calm down. If you really love me, you would."

Flashing did as commanded, but this just made Soarin even angrier, and he tried to go after Flashing Skies.

"Soarin, chill!" Hoop yelled.

Soarin finally stopped, but still stared at Flashing with pure hatred.

"I'll take Soarin with me. Dash, you have a good rest of the night." Hoop said, and he bit Soarin's ear and forced him to be dragged away.

"Let's get you cleaned up, Flashing. I can't believe Soarin did that. I'm so sorry. I'm sure to have a really long talk with him."  Rainbow apologized, and walked Flashing inside.

It reminded Rainbow of the moment where she took Soarin to the nurse. Speaking of fights, it was odd, because in August, her and Soarin fought because they were enemies. Now Soarin fought because he was jealous of another stallion being with her.

She got the medical kit and bandaged places Soarin managed to bite, but altogether, he wasn't damaged too badly.

Flashing brought her in for a kiss, and Rainbow giggled as they parted lips.

"Let's go in my room." said Rainbow, and they sat down on her bed.

Then she heard her dad knock on the door. "Who is it?" Rainbow asked, and her dad opened it. He was satisfied at the sight of Rainbow sitting with Flashing Skies watching TV, and nothing much more.

They're behaving like perfectly good kids, he thought.

"Just checkin' in on ya. Bye." he said, and closed the door.

The minute her dad closed the door, the minute Flashing wanted to go back to having a little fun.

He gave her another kiss.

Rainbow smiled, and soon enough it was a quiet make out session, because her bed frame was really squeaky, and they didn't want her dad to hear.

But on the back of her mind, Rainbow wondered how Soarin was.

***

"You're so stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid." Hoop scolded.

Soarin didn't reply. He just looked at the ground, and sighed in disappointment.

"Soarin, look at me!" Hoop hissed.

Soarin looked up, and the only thing he saw was an angry colt. He looked back at the floor.

Hoop rolled his eyes, "Okay, Soarin. Can we just have a calm conversation?"

"Sure." Soarin said quietly, still staring at the ground, not making eye contact.

"Well, what happened?" Hoop asked.

Now Soarin looked up at his friend, "I went over and saw that colt making out with Rainbow Dash...I got really, really, jealous. I didn't think, and I thought attacking him was the smart idea. But now Rainbow probably hates me..."

"What are you going to do about it?" Hoop asked.

"I'll be homeless, sit in a box by a park, have Rainbow and that colt get married there, watch the wedding in my box, and eat stolen cake." Soarin replied.

Hoop sighed, "Soarin, you should just leave Rainbow alone for a few days."

"Okay, can we do something? Like, play video games?" Soarin asked.

"Sure thing, 'Soar. Let's get our minds off this." Hoop replied.

And so they did.

***

"Bye, Flashing!" Rainbow waved as the colt left her house for the night.

"I like him, he's nice." Rainbow Blaze said, "Also, why is he all bandaged up? I don't remember seeing him like that before he came in."

"Don't know. Maybe we didn't notice." Rainbow lied.

She walked back inside, sighing. She brought out a piece of paper and a pencil. Usually she didn't like writing, but now she felt like it.

I don't know why Soarin did that. I wish he would've ran off crying like a little filly, not attack my coltfriend. I didn't think he was that jealous.

Rainbow thought for a moment, what else could she write down?

I don't know what to do, honestly. Should I talk to Soarin? Avoid him?

She couldn't think of anything else to write, so she just watched TV in her room.

***

"Soarin! It looks like you were beaten up?! What happened?!" Blazingbull, the very concerned mentor-brother of Soarin asked.

"I-I..." Soarin began, and glanced over at his sister, who was having one of her friends sleep over. They were at the table.

"Can we talk in your room?" he asked, suspicious of his sister eavesdropping.

"Sure thing, little brother." Blazingbull said, teasingly, but concerned.

The two colts walked up the stairs and into Blazing's room.

"Hey, what's up?" he asked as he closed the door.

"Well...I got in a fight today." Soarin stammered.

"With who?" asked Blazing.

"I really...don't know who." Soarin said, a tinge of red coming to his cheeks.

"What? Did someone try to hurt you?" Blazing asked.

"Well, um, no. I was the first to attack." Soarin said, not wanting to get to the point.

"Why'd you attack him then, Soarin?" Blazing questioned.

Soarin hesitated and didn't open his mouth.

"Does it have to do with that mare?" Blazingbull asked, a sense of pride for his little brother starting to fill him.

"Y-yeah." Soarin replied, not making eye contact.

"Well, tell me, what happened, Soarin." Blazingbull sighed, "It's okay to tell."

Soarin let it out, "Well, I wanted to invite her over to Hoop's. Hoop told me not to, but I didn't listen. I went into her room and saw her. She was making out with some colt. I didn't think, I got really jealous. I attacked him, and we fought our way outside. Rainbow got Hoop and they stopped us. Hoop dragged me back to his house. Rainbow's pissed at me."

"That takes guts, Soarin." Blazingbull commented.

"It didn't take guts. It took jealousy. How can we become friends again?" Soarin asked.

"A five year old knows the answer, Soarin. Apologize to her." Blazingbull replied.

Soarin sighed, "This isn't stealing someone's barbie doll, Blazing! I can't just apologize."

"So what can you do then? Beat him up again?" Blazing protested.

Soarin groaned, "Fine. I'll try to apologize to her. But I doubt she'll ever forgive me."

Blazingbull gave a sad smile,

"Well, good luck to you."

Soarin looked at his older brother for the first time since going into the room and sighed sadly, "Trust me, I'll need more than good luck to fix this problem."
