Rainbow Dash entered first period, excited to invite Hoop to the movie night. Rainbow lived nearby Hoop, so he used to be a close friend of Rainbow's when she was younger. They still got along, but no one would call them friends anymore. Not after nearly a decade. But she knew a movie night with him would be fun.
Rainbow approached Hoop, who was sitting in his desk reading a book. She tapped his shoulder. "So Volleyball Spike and I are having a movie night in her house after school finishes. Wanna come?"
"Uh, sure. Sounds fun." Hoop smiled, and then from behind Rainbow, "A movie night?! Can I come?!"
Rainbow turned to face Soarin, a stallion who she used to hate.
Funny how I used to hate him, and now we're practically friends. Rainbow Dash thought before she responded.
"If Hoop brings you, I don't see why not." Rainbow replied, excited, because the more ponies to come, the better.
"Hoop, please?" Soarin said, leaning out of his desk to come close to show his puppy dog face.
"Sure." Hoop simply said.
Rainbow sat in her desk, satisfied about the two new attendees.
And the bell rang.
***
About a month later, Rainbow Dash was with Volleyball Spike outside of her house, waiting for everypony to arrive. So far these ponies came; Helping Paw, Trackee, Racer, Sprinter, Mascaran, and Cheerleader.
Only Hoop and Soarin were left.
Soon enough, Hoop and Soarin arrived, side-by-side, ready to start the movie.
"So," Soarin said, approaching all cool-like, "What are we watching?"
"Bleeding Souls. I heard that one was really scary." Volleyball Spike replied, leading her group into her house.
"Wait, we're watching that movie?!" Soarin asked, slightly nervous.
"Why?" Rainbow replied, smirking, "Are you scared?"
Soarin defended himself, "No! Why would I? They're just movies."
"Whatever." Mascaran replied as they went into the cloud-basement.
There was plenty of couches for them to sit on, and no one really cared who they sat by, but Soarin. He was sure he sat in between Rainbow and Hoop. He was clinging to Hoop.
"Dude, what's your problem?" asked Hoop, as he shoved Soarin off him.
"It's nothing, I'm just...cold. And you and Rainbow are the only ponies I know here." Soarin replied.
"Really, Soarin? If you wanted to come so bad, why are you acting so nervous around being different ponies?" Rainbow asked, but before Rainbow could reply Volley asked her, "Hey Rainbow, can you get us the soda and the popcorn?"
"Sure." Rainbow replied and got off the couch.
"Save my spot for me, will ya?" she asked Soarin, and he did without hesitation. Because when she returned and sat next to him during the movie, at least she would maybe understand that when he's scared he grabs the nearest thing he can and hides beneath it. Doing that to a pony you don't know would make it worse.
Soon Rainbow came back with bowls of popcorn and sodas for each pony. Volley found a spot and turned off the lights, so the only light was coming from the TV. Soarin watched nervously as she skipped through the previews to play the movie. Soon the movie began, and there were no scares but Soarin was already tense.
After what seemed like a deathly long time, the demon in the movie got it's first victim. It was so loud and the image was so terrifying, each pony jumped a little, Mascaran, Cheerleader, and Helping Paw being a bit dramatic. Soarin was the most dramatic. He was so terrified, he wrapped his hooves around Dash, making her spill her popcorn and fall onto his belly. This was so fast that Rainbow jumped in surprise and flew to the ceiling, her hooves smashing Soarin's belly before she hit her head on the ceiling, and she fell back down onto the couch, dazed.
Even though the jump scare was gone, everypony was screaming from all of the action happening in such little time. Within a second after Rainbow Dash landed on the couch, everypony stopped screaming.
Volley paused the movie.
"Rainbow, are you okay?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Rainbow replied, rubbing her head.
"Alright, good." Volley continued the movie, and Soarin muttered, "Sorry."
Rainbow didn't reply.
The next jump scare came. This time Soarin clung to Rainbow like a baby monkey to it's mother.
Rainbow jumped this time, but Soarin's weight kept her down to the couch.
She looked in annoyance as Soarin still clung to her, and made eye contact with him, and her eyes, which said, Let go of me.
Soarin quickly let go.
Then, without warning, another jump scare came. Soarin squealed but didn't cling, and instead threw his popcorn and showered Rainbow and Hoop with it.
"Dude, can you watch this movie without being over-dramatic?" Hoop asked.
Soarin nodded, and for about twenty minutes there was peace and quiet.
Then suddenly the most terrifying jump scare came. The demon had a bloody face with black eyes and her skull was showing. She was killing and eating her victim and torn flesh showed.
Everypony screamed bloody-murder, and jumped from their couches. Soarin was the loudest screamer, it was so high pitched you would mistake it for a six year old. He squeezed Dash harder than he ever did before, he was so scared he leaned forward and Rainbow fell on her side, Soarin's weight on top of her so she couldn't move. He was still screaming. Rainbow finally used her back hooves to push him off her.
"Soarin!" she grumbled.
Then everypony stopped screaming and laughed at how they screamed.
"Soarin, you scream like a filly!" Hoop laughed, and everypony else laughed as well, but Soarin.
His cheeks were bright red. Had he seriously just done that?
Everypony soon continued to watch the movie. Soarin just wanted it to be over.
As more jump scares came, Rainbow learned to ignore Soarin's clingyness.
Finally it was over.
Soarin let out a breath of relief.
"Man, Soarin, you're sure a p-" Rainbow began to say, but was cut off by Volley saying, "What now?"
"Maybe we could get pizza." Sprinter suggested.
"Good idea. I'll call the pizza place. What kind of pizza do you guys want?" Volley asked.
"Supreme!" Soarin and Dash said at the same time.
"Yeah, I guess supreme's okay." said Racer, "Let's get it."
"Alright." Volley dialed in the phone number.
"Hey guys, I have an idea. We should prank call." Cheerleader said, "Although I'm bad at it. Who's good?"
"Me." said Soarin, Rainbow, Hoop, and Volley at the same time.
"Okay, how 'bout we prank call a repair shop? I have just the idea in mind." Sprinter laughed.
"Alright," Mascaran said, "What's the plan?"
Prank Calls and Eggs
"Hello, this is Al's Repair Shop. What's your problem?" A rough-voiced pony, who the kids assumed was Al asked from the other end of the line.
Racer began to speak, "Hi, I need help. A few weeks ago, I was in Manehatten and I was walking in a dark, abandoned ally and I came across a pony in a mask who made me buy his carriage. So I did, and I got it back to my house. It sat there for a couple of weeks. I was just going to clean it, but now I realize there is dry poop stuck in the tires and it won't move and I can't get it out. I think the poop was fresh when I bought it so I think it dried over time. What do I do?"
Al replied, "Um..."
The rest of the ponies chuckled.
"Try using a hammer to crack the poop, maybe chunks will fall out." Al responded.
"Okay, give me a few minutes." Racer said, and made noise to make it seem like he was busy. Finally he pounded his hoof on the wall and exclaimed, "Holy crap, the crap took off the wheel with it!"
"Okay, sir, calm down. Try to scrape it out and re-attach the wheel." Al said.
"Okay, um...AH! APART OF THE WHEEL BROKE! THE POOP IS LIKE ONE WITH THE WHEEL!" Racer shouted.
Mascaran burst out laughing, and then Racer quickly ended the call.
"Mascaran!" Everypony exclaimed
"Sorry!" she giggled.
Trackee rolled her eyes.
"I have an idea..." Rainbow said, giggling, "Dial in a random number. I got this."
So Racer did. And the pony picked up. "Hello, who is this?" it was a middle-aged mare.
"You don't recognize me?" Rainbow asked.
"Dusty, is that you? I thought you were sleeping over at Midnight's! Is something wrong?" the mare replied.
"Yeah. Well, the real reason why I slept over there is because I need to tell you something. But I couldn't tell you in pony. So listen to me, please." Rainbow responded.
"What is it, Dusty? You're my daughter. You can tell me anything."
"Well...I'm-I'm...pregnant." Rainbow stammered.
The entire group choked back a laugh.
"WHAT?!" the mare screamed, "DUSTY!"
"Mom, I'm sorry." Rainbow whimpered.
"I'M PICKING YOU UP FROM MIDNIGHT'S RIGHT NOW. YOU HAVE A TON OF EXPLAINING TO DO!" the mare screamed again.
"Wait, mom, I was joking! Midnight dared me to." Rainbow wanted to save the innocent mare trouble.
"What?! Dusty, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" the mare cried.
"Sorry mom. G'night. Trust me- I'm not pregnant." Rainbow replied, and hung up.
The entire group burst out laughing.
"What if she really was pregnant, and right after we called her mom, she called her mom to tell her she was pregnant?" Helping asked.
"That'd be so weird and funny." Cheerleader replied, and Trackee nodded.
A few prank calls later, there was a ring on the doorbell. "Pizza!" a colt said from the outside.
"I'll get it. You guys wait down here." said Volleyball Spike, and she trotted up the stairs.
When Volley returned, she said, "There's ten pieces. One for each of us."
Everypony ate their piece and drank another soda.
"Now what?" asked Sprinter, "We've prank called, watched movies, and ate pizza."
Soarin got a mischievous look on his face.
"What's your idea, Soarin?" Rainbow asked.
"Well, we can egg houses..." he started to say.
"I remember egging houses when I was like, six. I got bored so I just did." Rainbow replied.
"I've egged houses before, too. In fifth grade." said Sprinter.
"I've only tipi'ed before." said Volley.
"Well, should we?" asked Soarin.
"Only at the houses where we don't like certain ponies." Helping said.
Everypony else nodded in agreement.
"My parents would wonder where the eggs are, though." Volley said.
"We can get more eggs at 7/11. Do they have eggs?" Sprinter asked.
"I don't think so." Mascaran replied.
"Whatever. Let's do it!" exclaimed Volley.
Excitedly, everypony trotted up the stairs and Volley grabbed the eggs.
"We have two full cartons. I'll give each pony two and save the other four." she said, as she handed the ponies their eggs.
"Who's houses should we do?" Cheerleader asked.
"I say ShinyHoof's, Barkling's, then Northway's." Rainbow said.
Everypony nodded, and Trackee said, "We can use the two extra eggs on Barkling's. He's the worst."
"Yeah." Racer agreed.
"Alright, let's go. Don't get caught." Volley said.
The group left the house. It was late now, the sun was just starting to set.
"Who first?" Rainbow asked as Volley lead them behind the group of Cloudsdale trees, which were planted with a spell that allowed them to grow on clouds.
"Shiny's. She's closest." said Racer.
"Let's wait until the moon rises. It'll only be about ten minutes." Trackee said, looking at the sky.
Ponies were starting to get into their homes. Although school nights no longer existed until late August, you had to be careful of the certain gaps in the clouds in the city, or if you were too close to the edge of the city, you could fall and not see below. Most flying deaths were from flying from Cloudsdale at night and not being able to see where the ground is. Since Cloudsdale was so high up in the air, a pegasus could easily kill his or herself trying to leave the city at night, where barely any light was provided.
Everypony knew the risk, but it was unlikely they'd fall into a gap in the clouds or find themselves falling off an edge. Only if they were drunk, then it would be very bad.
"So, what are you guys doing over the summer?" Helping Paw asked.
"Nothing." Hoop replied.
Everypony nodded in agreement.
"We can always get together and hang out." Rainbow remarked. Prank calling had been fun, and if Soarin wasn't so clingy, then the movie-watching would've been even more fun. Thing was, Volley's parents didn't know about Volley's get together. If her parents found out she invited stallions, four of them to be exact, they would go berserk. At least they left for the night.
"So, can you believe it guys? In the fall, we're going to high school." Mascaran reminded.
"I know right? What classes did you take, Mascaran?" Cheerleader asked.
After a few minutes of talking about future classes, the moon had fully risen.
"Now let's go. Stay behind trees." Volley reminded.
Quickly, she lead the group behind the trees in ShinyHoof's backyard. Their house was pitch black.
"Man, they go to bed early." said Racer.
Rainbow wondered what time it was, eight at night maybe? They got home from school at one, everypony arrived at about three, the movie ended at about five, and they prank called and pizza and had conversations for about an hour. It was only seven something?
"Okay, here's what I know from experience," Soarin began, and everypony turned their attention to him, "Aim for the things the most noticeable, and don't aim close together. If somepony can get close enough, smash an egg on the doorknob."
"Alright." and "Okay." and "Sure thing." went through the voices of the ponies.
"Now!" Volley whisper-yelled.
A few eggs were thrown at the house. Not many, only six. Racer managed to sneak up and crack an egg on the backdoor knob.
Rainbow wished they had more eggs.
"Alright, Northway's house, go!" Quickly and quietly as possible, Volley lead her pack down the neighborhood streets to Northway's house. The walk was longer than Rainbow expected. It had to be about seven-thirty now.
The lights in Northway's house were still on, and bright. Suddenly, cringing singing came from the room; which was obviously Northway's; a tan mare with blonde hair and blue eyes was singing into a hairbrush. She was pretty, but she was also pretty talent less.
The group hid behind the trees, then something clicked in Soarin's head.
"Oh no...it's her..." he mumbled.
"What?" Rainbow asked, "We mentioned her name before we even went egging houses. Why are you suddenly realizing something?"
"I wasn't really paying attention, honestly. But now that I see her-" Soarin pointed at the cringe-worth singing mare, "She's had a crush on me the entire school year. She would never leave me alone. She would stuff love letters into my locker and send me candy. I never ate it though, because who knows what's in it?"
"What'd she get you on Hearts and Hooves Day?" Hoop asked.
"She handed me roses and chocolates and cards and then tried to kiss me right before the bell rang to go home. I managed to fly away though." Soarin replied, "There's no way I'm getting close to that...thing."
Then suddenly, the singing stopped, and the mare walked out of her room and into the backyard. She didn't notice the group. She sat on a swinging chair that could hold two ponies.
"Oh, Soarin. It's so nice of you to have come sit next to me on such a good night like this one." She said to an imaginary Soarin.
Rainbow shoved her hoof into her mouth to prevent from exploding from laughter. The rest chuckled a bit, while Soarin's face went hot red from embarrassment.
Then Northway made a stallion-voice as if she were talking for a toy, "Yes, I know, Northway! There is no other mare in the entire world than I would rather be with than you."
Soarin was burning hot red now. He would, for a fact, rather be with any other mare in the world but Northway.
Rainbow Dash fell to the ground, holding her breath so she didn't laugh.
"I know, Soarin. I love to call you my coltfriend. Kiss me!" She puckered her lips and kissed the imaginary Soarin.
Then she had a make-out session. You could see her tongue flicking out of her mouth and moving in random directions.
Rainbow couldn't anymore. She burst.
"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" she laughed.
Then she realized her mistake as Northway's eyes widened and pupils shrank. Then her face turned to anger and she leapt into the direction of the sound.
There she stood, in front of an amused Rainbow mare. Then she noticed the others. Some she knew from the school year. Then she saw him; Soarin.
"SOARIN! YOU CAME TO ME, I KNEW YOU WOULD!"
Rainbow got up. Man she's dumb.
"No...I didn't come for you... at all." Soarin muttered.
"Kiss me, baby!" and she closed her eyes and puckered her lips.
"RUN!" Soarin screamed.
The group didn't need to know anymore. They took for the sky.
"Soarin?! I thought you loved me!" Northway cried as she took after the group.
Rainbow then realized she was still holding her eggs. Quickly, not even looking where she threw, she threw them both, and then she heard an angry scream.
The eggs managed to hit Northway. Rainbow looked back and laughed. Yolk was running down her mane and legs.
Some of the flyers in the group weren't as fast as the others, though. Helping Paw and Mascaran found themselves lagging behind, and Northway caught up to them. Soarin was long gone in the front of the group, with the rest of the pegasi next to him.
When the pegasi finally reached Volley's house, they galloped inside, taking dramatic quick breaths.
"Where's Mascaran and Helping?" Trackee asked as she caught her breath.
The entire group's face went pale.
"Northway probably captured them! She's crazy, she might be torturing them right now!" Hoop said in major concern.
"Well let's not just be worried about it, let's go rescue them!" Rainbow exclaimed, and unlocked the door and soared out.
This was her fault. She had to fix it.
She soared all the way back to Northway's house, without realizing the others at her tail.
She landed, and looked in the backyard and in the front and house sides. Nothing. They must be inside. But how the hay did one pony win against two?
Rainbow didn't even bother knocking. She tried opening the door but it was locked. Growling in anger, she searched for an open window. Fortunately, Northway's window was open. Rainbow busted through the screen and landed in the too-much-pink room.
She then saw the rest of her friends slip through the window, she gasped, thinking Northway had found her.
"Don't worry, Rainbow, it's just us. Let's get Mascaran and Helping out as soon as possible." Volley said.
"Okay." Rainbow let out a breath of relief.
"Quiet, guys. We don't want her knowing we're here." Rainbow said as her and Volley lead the friends into the hallway.
Rainbow just noticed how large the house was. Normally a hallway with eight ponies in it would be crowded, but it wasn't. Overwhelming pictures of Northway covered the walls.
These parents must really spoil her.
Then suddenly there was a creak in the floorboards.
Everypony stared with wide eyes.
Then, through one of the vents, they heard voices screaming. "Help! She's making us have a Starbucks and iPone party! She won't stop playing Justin Beaver and One Deerection!"
It had to be Mascaran's voice.
Then through the screams, the ponies could hear, "If I was your Coltfriend" playing.
"Shut up, or else I'll have to duct tape your muzzles shut and you won't be able to drink your Chai Latte!" screamed Northway.
There was just background music after that.
"Okay, I have an idea." Rainbow began, "We're going to give Northway what she wants. Soarin. So I'l-"
"I'm not getting near that crazy bitch!" Soarin screamed.
"Soarin, listen to me!" Rainbow exclaimed, "Anyways, Soarin knocks on the door, and he uses his voice, being all, 'I love you' and stuff. If Northway hears his voice, she'll surely let him in. Say you have a surprise for her, and tell her to go to the bottom of the stairs and wait, and that you'll close and lock the door for her. So Soarin will let me in, and he'll come down the stairs while I wait at the top. Mascaran and Helping Paw will be down there. Soarin will ask if he can take them into a closet or something. Soarin, you'll have to hold her off long enough for me to give the cue to the others. I'll unlock the basement door and let everypony in.We'll help untie them, or whatever thing is trapping them. Then when I ring the doorbell, it will show that Mascaran and Helping are a safe distance away. Then Soarin runs out of the closet, and out the basement, and out the door. Then Soarin and I fly to Volley's house. Sound like a plan?" she asked her team.
Everypony nodded.
"Alright," Rainbow said, "Let's save our friends from Northway's torture."
Executing The Plan
Quietly, the team walked down the stairs and Rainbow unlocked the door.
"Okay, hide guys. I'll hide close to the door so Soarin can let me in."
From the light and music streaming in from behind the door, she knew it had to be the basement.
Soarin knocked on the door. "Northway? It's me, Soarin! I love you, Northway. Let me in, please."
Immediately a gallop came up the stairs and there was a click and then the door opened.
"Soarin! Wait, how'd you get in my house?" Northway asked.
"The door was unlocked, and I wanted to surprise you." Soarin said, putting on a fake smile but looked real.
"Okay, quickly come, we have no time to waste!" Northway said, now excited.
"Wait, go down there. I have a surprise for you, and I need a minute. Okay, honey?" Soarin shuddered at saying "honey" to Northway.
"Okay, honey." said Northway like she was cooing to a baby. She trotted down the stairs.
Soarin held back barf.
Rainbow quietly went onto the stairs and shut the door and locked it.
Rainbow saw Northway's satisfied face as she heard the click of the lock.
Soarin came down the stairs.
When Mascaran and Helping Paw saw him, they let out muffled screams, "HELP US!" Northway must have duct taped their mouths shut.
Soarin ignored the two mares, and said, "Let's go in the closet and have some privacy."
"Where's my surprise?" Northway asked.
"It's folded in my wing, I'll show you. Let's get into the closet."
Soarin hoped Northway didn't have more things in mind than just a make-out.
The two went into the closet, which had no lighting. The door shut.
***
Rainbow unlocked the basement door and called for the others to come in.
Mascaran and Helping cried with confused delight but Cheerleader shushed them.
The two were like Hearth's Warming presents wrapped in duct tape.
How'd Northway manage this? Rainbow thought.
She and her friends bit the duct tape piece by piece off the two victims.
About two minutes passed, and everything was off.
"Go, go, go!" Dash whisper-yelled. The ponies ran up the stairs quickly as they could.
Then they went out the door and unleashed their wings and flew.
Rainbow waited about a minute, and then rang the doorbell. Now all she had to do was wait for Soarin.
3 minutes earlier
Soarin walked into the dark closet with Northway.
"So, my surprise." Northway whispered in the dark.
"Yeah, I'm trying to find it. This place is sorta cramped. I dropped it after you closed the door.
Purposely, he kicked Northway in her face.
"I'm sorry, babe!" he lied.
"Y'know what, forget the surprise. I'll find it later. Just kiss me now." Northway said, and Soarin could hear rustling and her face coming towards his. Quickly, he grabbed something and put it in front of his face.
"Man, Soarin, you have such hard teeth, cm'on, let my tongue in." she said.
Northway felt around Soarin's "face".
"You have such hard muscles that your face is smooth and as hard as a bowling ball! Wow!" Northway said, impressed.
Then Soarin realized he was picking up a bowling ball. No wonder it was kind of heavy.
"Soarin!" Northway cried in impatience.
Soarin panicked. He needed to find something else, but couldn't.
Finally, he said, "OW! MY WING!"
"What's wrong, Soarin?" asked Northway.
"I just got a cramp in my wing. I'm okay. I just need two minutes to rub it.
"Do we need to get out?" asked Northway.
"No!" Soarin cried, "I mean, no, we don't. I'll be fine, I just need to rub it long enough. It cramps sometimes on it's own, no matter where I am. I'll get a doctor to check it out later. Besides, I'm comfy."
Soarin rubbed his perfectly fine wing.
Hurry, he thought.
Only a minute had gone bye, and Soarin just bought himself two. He rubbed and Northway seemed non-existent in the dark light.
After what seemed like only a few seconds, Northway said, "Okay, it should be fine by now. Maybe our fun time will make it feel better."
Soarin knew he couldn't do anything now. Even if he said it still hurt and he needed longer, Northway wouldn't wait to kiss him.
He backed up to the very end of the closet, and felt Northway getting closer.
Closer.
Closer.
Closer.
Their faces were only a few centimeters apart.
Ding-dong!
Soarin, without hesitation, nailed the mare in the face and left her in pain and shock. He opened the closet door and ran out without hesitation. He sprinted out of the basement door and through the main level into the outside.
He saw Rainbow Dash for a split second, but once she saw him, she took off like a rocket, Soarin quickly flew behind her.
They heard the ear-shattering screech of Northway. "Soarin!" she screamed into the black sky.
***
Northway couldn't believe it. Soarin flew away. Soarin tricked her. He hadn't really wanted to kiss her. She cried, and then went to the basement. At least her new best friends would be some company.
As she came down the basement, she saw the broken pieces of duct tape.
She screamed even louder! No wonder why Soarin wanted to go into the closet! Not to have privacy, but to keep her away from the two ponies.
She screamed, like a banshee.
***
The ponies came back to Volley's house and locked the door just in case Northway managed to follow them.
Everypony laughed and high hoofed.
"Thanks for the rescue mission." Helping said.
"Having to drink Starbucks and listening to One Deerection any longer would've driven me insane. I'm not joking." Mascaran added.
"I don't doubt you." said Racer.
"So what now?" asked Hoop.
"Maybe we can watch a comedy or something to calm down." Volley suggested.
Everypony nodded in agreement.
They went down the stairs and sat on their usual spots on the couch.
"So you won't freak out and wrap yourself around me?" Rainbow asked.
Soarin gave an embarrassed laugh, "No. What I've experienced with Northway was ten times as scary. I'll be able to take on any horror movie now."
"Sad thing we never got to egg Barkling's house." Hoop commented.
"Yeah, but I think Northway is a ton worse than Barkling and Shiny Hoof combined." said Trackee.
"Yeah, Shiny may be a bitch and Barkling may be a douche, but at least they're sane." added.
"Cm'on guys, let's just watch the movie." said Volley.
And everypony quieted down to enjoy the movie.
Pillows and Hiding
Although Rainbow Dash was usually the last to fall asleep at sleepovers, she was the third this time, next to Cheerleader and Mascaran. Each pony called their parents to announce their nightly stay at Volley's. Still, Volley's parents didn't know about this.
Soarin's eyes drooped. The movie wasn't even half way done yet.
His vision got hazy, and he knew he was going to fall asleep, so he grabbed the nearest pillow to rest his head on. Or so he thought was a pillow.
Hoop chuckled.
"Guys- look." he pointed at Soarin.
His head was resting on Dash's flank. Everypony choked back a laugh.
"I didn't know they were dating..." Trackee said, in surprise.
"I doubt they are." Hoop said.
"Quick, take a picture. Turn off the flash." Racer said.
Volley brought out her iPone and turned off the flash.
"It's too dark." she put on the flash.
She quickly flashed the camera. Racer took a video, and you could barely see the two. But it was still noticeable.
Rainbow woke up, groggy.
"What happened?" she asked, and began to get up.
Rainbow getting up caused Soarin to get up, but Soarin was still half asleep.
"Hoop, give me back my pillow." he groaned.
He grabbed Dash's legs and pulled her back onto the couch and continued to rest his head on her flank.
Now not laughing was a challenge.
Still groggy, Rainbow Dash tried getting up again.
Soarin was annoyed now.
"Hoop, this is my pillow. Go get your own."
"She sure is your pillow." Sprinter whispered to Racer. Racer made a small chuckle.
Rainbow was truly annoyed now. She got up and Soarin fully woke up.
"Damn Hoop, let me sleep! It's not funny!"
He opened his eyes and looked around but he couldn't see a pillow or Hoop.
Hoop let out an explosion of laughter.
"It's not fun-"
Hoop laughed, "You weren't using a pillow, dude."
"Soarin, why were you pulling my legs?" Rainbow demanded.
Soarin's face went bright red. At least the room was dark.
"You were saying...that wasn't a pillow?" he asked.
Hoop whispered in Soarin's ear.
"You were using Rainbow's flank as your pillow."
"I have to pee..." Soarin said as he left the couch to use the bathroom as an excuse to get away from everypony.
The other six burst out laughing. "Soarin's sure a lady's man." Trackee commented.
"I'm surprised she didn't beat him up. I thought Rainbow would kill him." Sprinter commented.
"She probably would've if she wasn't so tired. We can tell her tomorrow." Volley said.
"Nah, let's help Soarin on this one. He didn't know." Hoop said.
"I agree. Is Rainbow even awake?" Racer asked.
But when they looked over, the rainbow mare was asleep, like she hasn't even woke up.
***
"Rainbow, wake up!" Volley cried, shaking her.
"My parents are home! Cm'on, we have to hide everyone."
The statement immediately awoke the half-asleep pony.
Soon everypony was awake, and Volley lead them to the storage room.
"Keep the lights out." she said, and closed the door.
Volley pretended to be asleep on the couch. Why were her parents home at three a.m.?
"Volley?" her mom called, opening the basement door.
She turned the lights on, and walked down the stairs.
Why was it such a mess? Coke, candy, and popcorn was all over the place.
"Volley?" she said. Volley hoped her mother would just let her off the hook for the night and go to bed. But she didn't. She shook her daughter awake.
"Volley? Wake up!" Volley had no choice.
"Mom?" she groaned, "What do you want?"
"Why's it such a mess?" her mom asked.
"I got bored so I spent the day doing whatever. I was going to clean it up but I got too tired." Volley lied.
"Well, we need to clean this up. I'll get the vacuum from the storage room-"
"No! We can wait until tomorrow." Volley protested.
"No, you will clean up this mess and you will not go to bed until the job is completed." her mother responded.
"No! The vacuum is too loud. Besides, it'd wake dad up!" Volley protested again.
"You know your father. He's a deep sleeper, if a fire alarm was going off he wouldn't wake up. Now stop wasting time. It'd make you alert, too." her mom said, making her way to the storage room.
"No, mom, you can't go in there!" Volley blocked the way into the storage room.
Please, please, hide. thought Volleyball Spike.
***
"Her mom is coming! Guys hide!" Mascaran yelled. The group of nine ponies hid behind a group of cardboard boxes that was meant for large Christmas decorations. Cheerleader accidentally hit something and there was a loud bang.
Still, the ponies hid with hopes.
***
"Do we have a rat problem?" asked Volley's mom, hearing the noise, "You know I don't like rats, but that won't stop me from chasing them out."
"No, mom-" but Volley's mom already pushed her out of the way and into the storage room. She flicked on the lights, and grabbed a broom.
"Come out, you damn rats!" she shouted.
She whipped the broom around and ended up knocking items over.
"Mom-" Volley began, but her mother ignored her, eager to get the "rats" out of the storage room.
She used the broom and knocked over the cardboard boxes, revealing the group of scared ponies.
Volley's mom looked in shock.
"What the hell?"
The Morning Topic
"So you're telling me, you invited colts, one you don't even talk to anymore, and one you don't even know to sleepover? Are you crazy?" WeatherFeather, Volley's mom yelled from the other room.
Despite the loud yelling, the ponies sat drowsily on the family room couch.
It was about three thirty now, and Volley and WeatherFeather have been arguing for half an hour.
Finally, after ten minutes of yells, Volley came out of the room, her face bright red with anger.
"You guys have to go." she said, with grinding teeth.
"What?! It's three in the morning!" Soarin cried.
"Can you at least let us stay until seven?" Rainbow added.
Rainbow lived right down the street, but she did not want to face her grumpy parents. Especially her brothers. If they heard she was hanging out with stallions the entire day, they'd flip and make sure they were dead. Especially Soarin, a stallion they didn't even know.
"Mom, they need to stay until seven." Volley said as her very angry mother stepped out of the room.
"The mares can. Just... get the stallions out. Racer and Sprinter can go to their grandparent's. Those two, however-" she pointed at Soarin and Hoop "They're going to have to go to Hoop's house. Are you Hoop's friend?" she asked Soarin.
"Yes, I am." replied the nervous stallion.
"Okay, now please...call whoever you need. I don't need you four to stay any longer." said WeatherFeather, impatiently.
Just because they were stallions didn't mean anything. Sure, they were going to high school and all and we're interested in those kind of things, but these were friends. Not anything more.
Soon every colt left, each mare saying their goodbyes. Soon it was an all-mare room, and WeatherFeather went back to bed.
"I'm not tired anymore." said Mascaran.
"Me too." Trackee agreed.
"It was fun with them around. Now it's just...quiet." Cheerleader said.
"That was so crazy last night, though." Volley said, "And, oh yeah. Should we tell Rainbow?"
"Tell me what?" Rainbow asked.
The five other mares laughed.
"Seriously, what is it?" Rainbow demanded.
"You tell her." Volley told Helping.
"No! Trackee, you do it...please." Helping said in a nervous laugh.
"Cheerleader can do it." Trackee said quickly.
"Tell her what?" Cheerleader asked.
"Oh yeah, I forgot you were asleep. Same with Mascaran." Trackee replied.
"Somepony just tell me!" Rainbow growled. What was so bad that they were hiding it from her?"
Rainbow let out a sigh of relief.
The three ponies still argued.
"Ugh. Okay, I'm thinking of a number one through twenty. Whoever guesses the closest has to tell me."
Rainbow thought of a number.
Eleven.
"Fourteen." Helping replied.
"Nineteen." Trackee said.
"Ten." Volley said.
"The number was eleven. Spit it out, Volley." Rainbow demanded. She was tired of waiting.
"Okay, well..." Volley whispered in Rainbow Dash's ear, "Soarin used your flank as a pillow."
Rainbow's face went bright red with embarrassment, and for a minute, she was glad the stallion was no longer at the house.
"Was it on purpose?" she asked.
"I don't think so. He was tired, so I think he just grabbed the nearest 'pillow'." Volley responded.
Rainbow let out a sigh of relief.
"What happened?" Cheerleader asked.
Volley whispered it into Mascaran and Cheerleader's ears. They both chuckled.
"Aw, how cute." Mascaran teased.
The familiar embarrassed blush returned to Dash's cheeks.
"So Mascaran, I see you've got a thing going for Racer." Dash replied.
"What?! Ew, no." she responded.
Dash rolled her eyes.
"You are so crushing on him."
"I am not cru-"
"She's totally crushing on him." Cheerleader responded.
"Yeah, like how you cuddled up next to him during the movie." Trackee added.
"Hey, Soarin was hugging Dash!" Mascaran defended herself.
"He got scared." Dash said.
"'Scared'. Yeah, whatever, Rainbow." Mascaran said. She seemed to be running out of ideas.
The "crush" thing went on until sunrise. They finally came to a result that Soarin was a wimp and Mascaran had a crush on Racer.
"Whatever," Mascaran replied, "Believe lies. I don't care."
WeatherFeather walked out of her room and into the family room. She seemed less mad now that the colts were gone.
"You guys want breakfast?" She asked. Everypony nodded.
WeatherFeather made chocolate-chip pancakes.
They reminded Rainbow of how she used to make them for Volley's sleepovers when they were little. Guilt bit at her. She wasn't that happy making them now. Usually, she liked having the girls over for a sleepover. Now she made them in slight anger.
The ponies ate their food in silence. It used to be full of laughter.
After they ate, WeatherFeather said, "Please go home. I'll watch you guys."
Rainbow rolled her eyes. They were going to be freshmen. They didn't need to be "watched" anymore. This wasn't the fourth grade.
But she didn't question.
Rainbow left with anger.
She only lived down the street, so it only took about two-seconds in flight. She decoded the garage door and went inside, greeted by a very happy winged dog.
There her father was, on the leather chair, watching sci-fi movies.
"Hi Rainbow. How was your night?" he asked.
"Fun." Rainbow said. It was a half lie.
She walked up to her room, her dog following her, and sat on her bed.
The night would've been so much more better if they weren't caught and they didn't face Northway's insanity. Although it had been a bit exciting, she had to admit that.
She sighed, and her loyal companion sat beside her.
"Oh, SkyCatcher." she moaned.
SkyCatcher gave her a lick on the ear.
Rainbow opened her window and let the summer air in.
Although she didn't want to admit it, she was going to miss Soarin, despite the clinging and flank-grabbing.
At least she could visit him when he visited Hoop, although it wouldn't be the same.
"Rainbow!" she heard her name whisper-yelled.
She looked up, and Hoop came up and held a carton of eggs.
Soarin flew next to him. SkyCatcher began to bark at the intruders.
"Shh..." she calmed her dog, "It's okay."
SkyCatcher quieted down.
"We never got a chance to egg Barkling's house." Soarin said, "Wanna join?"
Rainbow didn't know why, but hearing that made her feel ten times better.
"Yes, I would. Let me get out." Rainbow pulled out her screen. She'd put it back in later.
She flew out the window, and SkyCatcher began to follow.
"Sorry Sky, you'll have to stay." and she closed it.
Rainbow faced the two colts in front of her.
"Ready?" she asked.
"As we'll ever be." Hoop responded.
Rainbow didn't need to hear anymore. She lead the colts to Barkling's house.
Time to have some fun.
Ten Years Later
Rainbow looked at the picture on her shelf.
It was of her, Soarin, Volleyball Spike, Hoop, Mascaran, Trackee, Racer, Sprinter, Cheerleader, and Helping Paw. They got the chance to hang out over that summer, despite the fact that WeatherFeather tore them apart.
Damn, was that really ten years ago? Rainbow thought. Ten years ago. Rainbow was twenty-four now.
Well, it turned out Racer and Mascaran got married. They were living happily together, and Mascaran is currently three months pregnant. They just bought their own home.
Volley is engaged to MountainHike, a stallion she met in freshman year of high school.
Hoop, she'd really lost contact with, but they talked every once in a while. He was currently dating another mare, whose name Rainbow couldn't remember.
As for Cheerleader, she was also dating a stallion. Same with Trackee, and Helping Paw.
Sprinter, Rainbow had no idea.
And for Soarin, she and him were close.
Soarin visited her often. He got an athletic scholarship and got to become a Wonderbolt. Rainbow did too, but not as quickly. Soarin became one right after high school. It took Rainbow a few years, but now she couldn't be happier where she was.
***
"Remember our team?" Rainbow Dash asked Soarin as she invited him over to watch a movie.
She pointed at the photo of the ten ponies.
"Haha, yeah. I still remember being in that closet..." Soarin replied.
"That was crazy. I wonder where Northway is now?" Rainbow wondered.
"Probably in jail, or an asylum." Soarin replied, and Rainbow laughed.
"So, the movie. Is it that new horror one?" Soarin asked.
"Yup. You aren't clingy anymore, are you?" Rainbow asked.
"No. That closet." Soarin replied.
Rainbow played the movie. And then...jump scare.
Soarin screamed and clung to Dash.
"I thought you said-" Dash began.
"Sorry." Soarin interrupted her and let go.
Then, five minutes later, jump scare again.
Soarin clung to Rainbow Dash yet again.
This time he didn't let go.
"Soarin, what are you-" Rainbow faced him.
"Oh, hi." Soarin said nervously.
"Hi." Rainbow said, bemused, and confused.
"I um..." Soarin began.
"You?" Rainbow asked, smiling.
Soarin got closer, and Rainbow could feel his hot breath.
"What was that, you were saying? I couldn't hear you." Rainbow said, starting to get the idea.
"I was saying this." Soarin was going in for the kiss.
And then, jump scare.
They both screamed, and clung to each other. Their romantic moment was ruined.
And they laughed.
