Mothers' Day Letters

by The Lunar Rebel

Chapter 1: Dear, Mom

Dear, Mom.

Hello, mother. I’m writing this letter to you to wish you a happy Mother’s Day since I can’t be there in person for the moment. I’m helping out in the restoration of Ponyville after Lord Tirek nearly obliterated it. I’m sure everypony has heard about his escape from Tartarus. I hope that you and dad weren't one of his magic-stealing victims!

Twilight Velvet then noticed a small pattern of blotchy stains that smudged the words a little bit. There was a small break in the letter where the paper was still fresh.

Sorry, mom. I’m getting a little emotional as I’m writing to you. Luckily now I’ve got a box of tissues to prevent anymore of my tears from ruining this letter any further. I just couldn’t stand the thought of harm coming to you, dad, or Shining Armor.

I should mention now the second thing that is triggering my waterworks.

The Golden Oak Library. My second home when I moved to Ponyville and where I had my own business to make money; was one of the buildings that was lost during Tirek’s attack. Luckily I grabbed and saved Owlowiscious before the tree was vaporized to nearly nothing. I don’t know where he is now, but I hope he comes back soon. But what I couldn’t save was all my books that I’ve had such great memories reading. I know that sounds weird to say--but it it also weird to say that I needed to stop writing for a bit to breakdown? It probably is. I wish I could be stronger than this being a princess and all, but it’s a struggle for me. I hope you understand.

Anyway, enough on the negative stuff. This is supposed to be a happy holiday for you, and I don’t want you to feel depressed by my own problems.

I’ve got my own palace now in Ponyville! Isn’t that just exhilarating! Okay perhaps now I’m overreacting a bit, but at least it’s in a good way. Also, I’ve discovered what my purpose as a princess is!

Not only is there a throne for me, but my friends as well--even Spike. Discord should’ve had one to, but as Fluttershy mentioned; he’s not exactly there yet--especially since he betrayed us. Once Tirek double-crossed him, I think that Discord has now got a clearer vision about how powerful friendship really is. I’m proud of him which is quite strange of me to say since I still didn’t trust him even after his reformation.

At least with this palace, I still have a home in Ponyville.

In conclusion, I would like to say have a happy Mother’s Day from me, and all of my friends. I’ll even send you a few gifts. They should be on their way very soon.

I love you, mom.

Sincerely your loving and caring daughter, Twilight Sparkle

Twilight Velvet held a hoof close to her smiling muzzle as happy tears flowed down her own cheeks. She was lying in bed relaxing while enjoying her momentous holiday like all the mothers in Equestria.

Just then, her husband Night Light walked into her room to check in on his wife. He noticed that she was crying with a smile on her muzzle.

“Was is it, sweetheart?” he asked.

“Oh. I was just reading a letter from our daughter, honey. She was just telling me why she couldn’t be here to celebrate Mother’s Day with us. The poor thing has been through a lot lately,” Velvet explained.

Night Light took a few seconds to think about what could’ve possibly caused this. He pretty much knew what the answer was.

“It was the release of Lord Tirek, right?”

“Bingo,” Velvet replied. “She just said that she’s helping out with the restoration of Ponyville, and possibly other areas of devastation. I know that she is feeling disappointed about this, but I know that she’s doing the right thing.”

“Well you should write her back. That ought to give her full reassurance,” Night Light suggested.

“You always know what to say, dear,” Velvet remarked and brought her husband in for a short and sweet kiss.

When they were done, Velvet used her magic to levitate a blank scroll, a quill, and a bottle of ink over to her.

“I’ll stay here by your side to offer support,” Night Light assured with a smile.

Velvet chuckled.

“Thank you,” she said.

Dear, Twilight.

I received your letter today and I thank you for wishing me well in your current absence. I’m very proud of you in what you're doing, and all of the accomplishments you’ve made in Ponyville. Also tell your friends that I’m proud of them as well. Without all six of you, Equestria would never be as it is now. Of course Spike should receive credit as well. He did save the world on a couple of occasions after all.

We were all aware of Tirek’s escape from Tartarus, and it scared us greatly.

Me and your father were as scared for you like you were for us, and to tell you that we are all okay now, thanks to you and the other Elements. There’s no worse feeling than having your magic and abilities taken from you. you have the right to be emotional as well. Just because you're of regal nature now doesn’t mean you can throw away your full emotions. I know that Celestia and Luna themselves have felt this way--especially after being separated, and then reunited after a milenia.

I am sorry to hear that your library had been destroyed, and I offer my condolences. We all do. But you’re father and I are so proud that you have your own palace now, along with finding your purpose as a princess. You never cease to amaze us, sweetie. Everything you do is absolutely wonderful. You and Shining Armor are the best gifts that me and daddy have ever received. Of course, I can’t wait to see what you’ve sent me for today.

I love you too.

Sincerely your doting and caring mother, Twilight Velvet.

PS: Just like you, Discord gave me the willies, but I know he has great potential to be a friend to you, and the others. Make sure to tell Fluttershy I’m glad she reformed him into what he is now. At least I don’t have to worry about chocolate milk coming out of the shower. Yeah, it came out of the shower as well--not just clouds made out of cotton candy. Your father surprisingly found it amusing.

PSS: This is your father, Twilight. You have to admit it was sort of funny even if it was bad, but it made your mother still smell wonderful. Ow! Your mother just hit me. Anyway, I wish you luck in Ponyville’s restoration, and I can’t wait to see what you’ve sent your mother. Of course I can’t for what you might send me on Father’s Day. Ouch! Your mother hit me again, but it’s all in good fun. Plus, you know I like to pull you and your mother’s legs.

PSSS: This is your mother. It’s so true. That is one of the reasons why I married him.

Author's Notes:

* I just decided to do a cute little one-shot in honor of Mothers' Day for Twilight, even if she isn't my favorite character--but that showdown with Tirek was completely amazing:raritystarry:! I'm sure going to miss Golden Oak Library though. We all are:pinkiesad2:.
