Why Did You Forgive Me?

by Fluffy Rose

Chapter 1: Why did you forgive me?

Author's Notes:

So yeah, just saw the finale. SO EPIC! Only the ending was kinda ehh. But I felt so bad for Discord that I decided to write this. Enjoy ^^

The main room in Twilight's now, castle was filled with the excited chatter of the Elements. Alot has transpired that day, leaving the six ponies with much to talk about. There had been a magic stealing villain, a betrayal from the Lord of Chaos himself, and a huge surprise from the Tree of Harmony; nothing could be more exciting.

"Hey, why don't we go get some burgers to celebrate?" Twilight spoke above the noise. Shouts of approval rang from her friends as they began to file out of the room. But only one certain yellow Pegasus hung back.

"You coming Fluttershy?" Rainbow asked.

"I'll catch up with you," she smiled reassuringly.

"Ok, I'll save you a seat!"

"Alright."

After her cyan friend departed, her eyes drifted to a certain draconiquus huddled in the far corner of the room.

"Discord?" Fluttershy slowly approached her friend. "You coming with us?"

"Go on ahead," he responded, waving her off.

"Are you ok?" a look of concern adorned her face.

"Yeah sure," he turned away. "Go on ahead."

"Something's bothering you," Fluttershy took a seat next to her friend. "Care to tell me?"

Discord snorted. Of course she would find out; she always knew when something was troubling him. She was just special like that.

He took a deep breath. "Fluttershy, do you think I would be better off encased in stone?" He snapped his fingers, making a stone coffin appear with the lid open.

"Goodness, no!" she grabbed his paw. "Why would you ever think such a thing?"

He paused before slowly turning towards her. "I betrayed you for power. What came over me...I don't know."

"Discord..."

He then summoned a cotton candy raincloud over his head as it began to douse him in chocolate milk.

"Discord, you made a mistake. We all do."

"Have YOU ever betrayed your friends?" a memory of Fluttershy crying and pleading at him from the cage began to resurface.

Fluttershy paused.

"No." she answered truthfully.

"Then tell me," he summoned an umbrella, handing it to the pegasus to avoid her getting splashed with the chocolate rain. She gladly took it. "After what I did to you, why did you forgive me?"

"Because that's what friends do."

Her answer was so swift and to the point.

"That isn't enough," he turned away again. "I don't see how that could be so easy for you, besides the fact that you hold the Element of Kindness."

He snapped his fingers, making a butterfly similar to Fluttershy's cutie mark appear in his hands.

"I forgave you because I know deep down inside you're not evil. You were only mislead."

"Hooray, the pegasus has faith in me," he remarked sarcastically. "What do you want, a medal?"

Fluttershy ignored his comment. "What mattered in the end is that you realized what you did was wrong. And you were humble enough to apologize for your mistake. And as far as I'm concerned," she took his paw again. "That's what a real friend does."

"You're too kind," he turned towards her again. She smiled.

"You're not a bad draconiquus, Discord. You just made a bad choice."

Discord smiled slightly, the raincloud gradually growing smaller. "You really mean it?"

"Of course I do. You didn't try to turn Equestria back to its state of chaos after we lost the Elements, did you?"

"Well...that's just cause I didn't want to lose our friendship."

"Exactly, even though you were consumed with the idea of power in the beginning, you realized that our friendship was way more important."

"Yeah...I guess it was," He gave her hoof a tiny squeeze.

Fluttershy smiled back. "So are you going to join us at the burger bar?"

He gave her a sly smile. "Actually I was thinking something a little more interesting."

Before the pegasus could react, they were both teleported away.

When the pair materialized, Fluttershy found herself standing in a field of every kind of flower known to ponykind. There were roses, pansies, tulips, and so much more stretching towards the horizon in all directions.

"Discord...What-"

"Surprise!" The draconiquus beamed, outstretching his arms. "Found this field when Tirek gave me some free time to spread my chaos. Reminded me of you, so I uhh...made some modifications," he smiled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.

"It's...lovely," Fluttershy said with awe.

"Yeah, a bit mushy if you ask me." He made a big plush heart appear in his hands with the inscription FS+DC BFFS written on it.

The pegasus giggled.

"Glad to see I can still do something right," Discord sighed, setting the heart on the ground before plopping onto it.

"Don't be so hard on yourself," Fluttershy joined her friend, the heart surprisingly big enough for the two of them.

"Sorry my dear, it's just after today one can't really help it, can they?"

"It's in the past Discord, all is forgiven. It's best to move on."

A warm smile spread across the draconiquus's face. "I'm lucky to have a friend like you Fluttershy."

"Me too," the pegasus responded. "Me too."

And so the two friends stayed, watching the sun give way to the moon and the huge tapestry of stars. Discord observed the various constellations for a bit, but soon became bored with them.

"Wish Luna would let me do something to those boring sky pictures once in a while."

"Don't even think about it."

"I'm not!" he defended himself, making a halo appear above his head.

"Yeah, right." Fluttershy yawned.

"Tired?"

"Yeah," she responded, yawning again.

Discord smiled before laying an arm around her.

"I really should get back to my friends."

"Just sleep here," the draconiquus responded, waving his eagle claw dismissivly. "You're with me. What could possibly go wrong?"

"They might worry."

"Ehh, forget about it. Twilight seems to be warming up to me, so I'm quite sure she won't care."

"But-"

"Ok, will this make you feel better?" he summoned a quill and parchment, which scribbled down a few words before bursting into flames and trailing away. "Says you're fine and you're with me. Twilight should get it...I hope."

"Alright," Fluttershy smiled, curling up to him.

He smiled before staring at the sky again, interesting chaotic ideas still spinning through his head; ideas he probably wouldn't attempt with Fluttershy here.

"Goodnight Discord," a soft sigh escaped the pegasus as she drifted off to sleep.

"Goodnight my dear."
