Pony's Soulby Alchemic Rune
Chapters
Prologue
On the first day, ponies were given a soul and with it, clarity. On the second day, upon Equestria was planted an irrevocable poison. A soul devouring demon.
King Sombra the Proud, by channeling the souls, brought unprecedented prosperity to the kingdom of Crystal. That is, until the Colorless Fog came. The Crystal Empire was cut off from the outside world. Many ventured into the deep fog, but none returned. That is, until Clover of the royal Twin Horns broke through the fog to warn Equestria of the Crystal Empire's plight. That King Sombra had unwittingly aroused the Old One, the great chaos below the Nexus, from its eternal slumber; and that the Colorless Fog has brought about hordes of monstrous Demons.
The Demons hunted down ponies and feasted on their souls. Those who lost their souls, equally lost their minds. The mad feasted on the sane and chaos reigns. Clover spoke of the tempting power of the Demon souls. Each time a Demon devoured a pony's soul, it's own demonic soul and life force became stronger. But the power of a matured Demon soul was said to be beyond pony comprehension.
The legend spread around Equestria, many were drawn to the cursed land, yet none returned. Starswirl of the Twin Horns, Rainbow Dash the Silent Chief, Saint Cadence, Maud the Wanderer, the Maiden Fluttershy and her knight Big Macintosh, and Sage Twilight the Visionary.
The Colorless Fog soon spreed beyond the Crystal Empire's borders, ponykind faced a slow extinction. Soon, the Fog shall swallow all of Equestria. But the Crystal Empire, and all of Equestria may have one final hope. The brave souls of ponies unwilling to give up the fight. Has Equestria found their salvation, or have the Demon's found a new slave?
The Ending is Death
The Colorless Fog has been breached yet again. A small group of ponies braved the deep, thickness of the Fog. There were ten of them, four of which were unicorns in robes, while the remaining six were pegasus and earth ponies clad in armor. At the head of the group was a bald, green unicorn wrapped in forest green ropes. Besides him were two of the largest earth ponies, in probably the heaviest armor.
Behind the green unicorn were his apprentices, three younger unicorns; a yellow mare with a flowing brown mane, a dark blue stallion with a short white mane, and the third was a gray stallion with a short black mane. Around the three unicorns were the remaining four armored ponies.
"This fog is too thick master." A young grey unicorn spoke venturing through the Colorless Fog.
"Be strong young Spell Break." The green unicorn at the head of the small group said. "We are almost through."
As the group cleared through the fog, they set up camp by what was once an house, now a crumbling ruin. Although they were now out of the Fog's thickest regions, they still struggled to see more than a few feet around them. Caution was a must.
"This is remarkable." The green unicorn said, looking over the ruined building, running his hoof over the outer wall. "This material is, oh my Celestia." The unicorn gestured towards the blue unicorn. "Star Wave. You must see this."
Both Star Wave and the green unicorn looked at the material the house was made of. Neither Spell Break nor the yellow unicorn pay any mind and the armored ponies kept watch for anypony.
"You're right Master Magi." Star Wave said with the same enthusiasm as Magi. "The material used in this house." Rubbing his hoof over the old, yet oddly smooth material that made the outer wall of the house. "This material was native only to the Crystal Empire."
"Then Clover of the royal Twin Horns spoke the truth." Magi said, walking a bit away from the crowd, to get a better look of the scenery. "The Crystal Empire is trapped in the Colorless Fog, and we have found it."
"Master Magi!" One of the heavily armored earth ponies said to the unicorn. "Don't wander, we don't know what is out there."
"Nonsense." Magi said stubbornly. "We have yet to run into--"
Magi's sentence was cut off, and followed with the sound of his head falling from his shoulders. Blood shot from the fresh neck hole and his face contorted in horror and pain. Star Wave, along with the other unicorns stood silent for a moment, but only a moment.
"MASTER MAGI!!!!!!??" Star Wave shouted, running towards the dead Magi.
"NO YOU FOOL!" One armored pegasus shouted, charging to stop the unicorn.
As the unicorn reached Magi, he failed to look forward and his horrified head was cleaved from his shoulders. His twitching body fell and his blood pooled with that of his master's. The pegasus, who was now in range of the mystery assailant, was able to draw his sword, blocking the swing of a long blade.
Clang
The blades made as they met in the air. The pegasus was able to jump away before he saw the mystery blade swing down.
"Everypony Run!!" The pegasus ordered. "I'll hold it off. Get to safety."
In the rush, the ponies could only grab what they could and ran towards what looked like an alley way. The pegasus who ordered the retreat gripped his sword hard in his teeth. He knew he had to slay this enemy before catching up to the others. The mystery enemy may of somehow sensed the pegasus' desire to fight and slowly walked into view. What the pegasus saw horrified him.
It was a crystal pony guard, but there was something wrong with him. The pony guard was clearly an earth pony but his eyes looked empty, with blood oozing out of them. The pony's mouth drooled like a madpony and his body was covered in countless scars and cuts.
The pony opened his mouth to let out. "Rrrrrooooouuuuuuuuggggghhhhhhh." Kind of moan which terrified the pegasus but he knew he had to defeat this...thing that was no long a pony.
Charging at this pony, the pegasus' blade and the thing's blade clashed with the sounds of clings and clangs echoing. The mad crystal pony was good with a blade but the pegasus was even better. Moving at a faster speed, he was able to bring down his blade in a diagonal swing, slicing through the pony's neck and front torso; bringing it to the ground as it bleed to death.
"Okay." The pegasus said. "Now I just need to--"
The pegasus was stopped by the feeling of a sharp pain pierce his back. His breathing quickened as he turned his head to find a long arrow had struck his back.
"There was an archer?!" The pegasus coughed up some blood and turned his body to face where the arrow may of come from.
Carefully watching, the pegasus listened for the drawing of a bow.
Twang
But this firing of a bow came from his left side, striking the base of his wing.
"Aaaahhhhh!!" The pegasus shouted, the pain in his left wing was intense, he was now incapable of escaping through flight. "Just how many are there?"
He didn't wait long. To his horror, the pegasus saw one archer pony after another walk out of the fog. Each of them drew their bows and aimed at the pegasus.
"I have failed you all." The pegasus said his final words. "I am sorr-" But the rest of his words were silenced by the twanging of the bows and the piercing of his flesh.
The others in the group managed to reached what would look like an old temple. The crystal pillars were cracked and some were missing.
"Let's hurry!" The other armored pegasus ordered. "Close those doors!"
The remaining five armored ponies closed the large doors, luckily thanks to the somewhat broken walls, light could still enter the room.
"What was that!" One guard asked in a panic.
"I don't know and I don't want to know." Answered another.
"But we have to keep moving." The pegasus said, walking towards the two unicorns. "I'm sorry we couldn't save Star Wave or Magi. But we have to keep moving."
Spell Break, who was normally the most rational simply nodded and looked to his companion.
"He's right Faye." Spell said to Faye, rubbing her back.
Faye said nothing. Her tears wouldn't stop flowing from her horror filled eyes. The armor ponies lit a few of the torches they could grab and the group continued their way into the temple. Their shadows danced along the walls and the flames' light hugged the corridors.
"What kind of place is this?" One of the guards asked.
"I'm guess some temple." Another guard said.
Then the quiet corridor echoed loudly to the sudden sound of a loud crack and snapping noise. Everypony almost jumped out of their skin in surprise. Looking at the source of the noise, the group found that one of the guards stepped on a skeleton, crushing the skull.
"This is no temple." Spell said with fear in his breath. "It's a mausoleum!"
Another pony brought his torch closer to the floor to see broken bones, torn rotted flesh and red smears of blood coating the floor.
"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Faye screamed in horror, the experience was too much, causing her to run back towards the door.
"NO, STOP HER!!" A guard shouted, chasing after her.
Faye reach the door quickly and her yellow aura magic tore at what kept the door shut. Her fear was too much, she had to leave.
"NO STOP!" The guard caught up with her and tried to restrain her, only to be knocked back by Faye's magic.
"NO!" Faye shouted, the other ponies were to stop her, Spell Break remained where he stood. "I have to get out, I HAVE TO!!!"
Faye tore the last of the restraints, and blasted the door open, the sound echoed throughout the corridor and nearby area.
"I have to leave." Faye shoouted in fear and panic. "I HAVE TO--"
Faye only looked down and saw the long shaft of a spear had pierced her chest, knocking her on her back. The guard closest to her didn't bother to check if she was alive and ran back to the others.
"RUN!!!" THe guard shouted, running with the remaining group deeper into the mausoleum.
Slowly walking into the room was another decomposing crystal pony. Walking over to Faye, the crystal pony saw she was alive, barely breathing but alive. Behind the pony, other decomposing and mad crystal ponies, armed with bows, shield, sword and spears, ran deeper into the mausoleum. The spear throwing pony gripped his spear with his hoof and with a swift motion, twisted the spear head deeper into Faye's chest. There was no screaming, she was in too much paina nd fear to scream and died with blood stained tears bleeding from her eyes.
The remaining six ponies ran deeper into the mausoleum, untill they reached what looked like a massive door. The door was made of solid crystal and had countless images and writing carved into it.
"What does it say?!" One guard asked Spell.
"What does it matter?" Another guard said. "Is it safe?"
Spell looked over the writing on the door. "This is the tomb of the old kings of the Crystal Empire."
The ponies had to make their choice, the sounds of the galloping horde behind them was growing louder.
"Let's go then!" Two of the guards said, pulling at the door, slowly opening it.
The ponies quickly moved into the room, closing the door behind them. The room was dark, even with the torches, and massive. What they could make out of the walls were filled with caskets and statues of former kings. Afraid their words would alert something, the group moved silently. But their fears were rekindled with they heard a loud rumbling. This rumbling came from the end of the hall they were coming from. One guard took a step back, only to hear a quieter but more frequent banging noise coming from behind, as if several hooves were banging on the crystal door.
"You three go on ahead." The remaining larger guard said, drawing his shield and sword, and gesturing to two other guards. "We shall buy as much time as we can."
"But you'll die." Spell argued.
"Face it." One of the guards who stood besides the larger guard, a boow in his hoof, an arrow clutched in his mouth. "We were dead the moment we entered the Fog."
The third guard remained silent and drew his axe in his teeth. The three ponies slowly walked towards the banging crystal door.
"Go on and try and survive this." The sword weilding pony said, bitting on his sword.
Before Spell could try and convince them, the thre ponies ran towards the door, only to stand mere feet away form it, waiting for whatever horrors that may break through.
"Now GO!" The larger guard said.
The two remaining guards looked at each other and nodded, grabbing a hold of Spell and galloping away, draging the unicorn further into the mausoleum.
"Did we make the right choice?" The bow guard asked.
"It doesn't matter." The spear pony answered. "Whether in this life or the next, we shall meet again."
As the crystal door cracked and chipped from the pressure of the horde. The three guards tensed their bodies, ready for the assault. The door broke down and the swarm of rotted and mad crystal ponies galloped toward the guards. The guards let out a loud shout that echoed throughout the halls as they ran towards their foes.
The remaining ponies galloped as fast as their hooves could carry them, until they reached the end of the dark hall. It was only then did they regret their choice. In mere moments, one of the guards was crushed by the massive claw of a demon. The demon was large enough to have its head scrap the ceiling, it's spikes scratched the ceiling and walls. It's body was a mass of terror and fat and its curved horned covered, three yellow eyes peirced the two ponies. Moving it's large claw away, the stain of the guard's blood dripped on his mangled body.
The demon let out a roar with its gapping, fanged maw. "RRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR"
Spell remained frozen in terror, as this large demon raised it's large axe. Swinging down the axe, the demon crushed one of the pillars that surrounded the room. The dust cleared and Spell was still alive, his guard was but only barely. Looking down, Spell was horrified to see that the guard, who managed to save him, lost one of his hind legs in the process. Blood gushed out of the torn limb.
"Spell." The guard said wiht tears from his fear full eyes. "I am sorry."
The demon raised its axe again and slammed down. The guard was able to push Spell out of the way but was slit and cushed by the large axe in an explosion of blood and entrails, painting Spell red. The demon turned it's three eyes from the mangaled corpse and looked upon the terrified Spell, still to horrified to move. The demon raised his axe, Spell knew he was dead, he could hear the hoove of the horde coming for him. Spell wanted to close his eyes but was too afraid. The axe swung down.
The was no pain...........only darkness and fear.
