Author's Note: I am rather new to writing and would appreciate feedback.

Thanks in advance! here goes nothing.

Prologue: The first awakens

White

There is nothing but white.

White as far as the eye can see.

The blankness forms itself into a room. No something forms it into a room. It is still white with no change of colors defining the seams of the room but you can just sense that the room is there. It begins to form again this time adding a six-sided star to the center of the room surrounded by three pedestals with unidentifiable items on them. (The items are not truly unidentifiable as there is not the presence of the knowledge in this void to give them their proper names.) The presence that has been manipulating this anti-void makes itself known as thousands of straight tendrils manipulate the formation of everything thus far. This being made of pure magic begins to exude energy and soon a second presence makes itself known.

As the second presence enters, the tendrils withdraw keeping the room from further manipulation. The second presence is not quite awake yet. Soon it shall awake and it has a very difficult, important choice to make. Final preparations to the room go underway as color seeps into it. Faint at first the normally pastel colors are but husks of their normal form. They quickly grow to their normal hue and the bright light fades quickly into a dimmer, more normal intensity. The second presence stirs and begins to take shape forming into a nondescript unicorn mare.

Viewpoint: The second presence

I am here. I open my eyes to see... nothing. The previous thoughts of my dreams vanished as I looked around the room blinking away the sleepiness in my eyes. This plain room with no doors, do windows or lights was lit of its own accord and defied all attempts to reason its existence. This peeves me to no end. I HATE not knowing... well pretty much anything. Interrupting my thoughts, a smooth, deep voice announces, "There is not much time. The time approaches where more is needed than friendship to restore harmony to this steadily dividing land. Soon, the everyone will need to band together to stop the coming conflicts and to restore the greater harmony of the land..."

"Excuse me!"

"... it is of utmost importance that... "

"EXCUSE ME!"

"what is of such great importance that you feel the need to interrupt?"

"This is all fine and dandy but, why am i here?"

"You have a choice to make."

"what kind of choice?"

The voice condenses itself into a small floating orb of light that pulses as it speaks. It begins to float around the room and deliver instructions. This time however, it speaks inside my head!

you need to choose how to combat the growing disharmony.

"How?" I reply.

on these three pedestals are a sword, shield, and staff. they are symbolic but, will help to guide your path in the coming days.

pick ONE the one you would use.

"The staff. It definitely stands for magic and it would be something I am good at." I answered.

very well, now pick something you want to abandon.

Worry set in. If this is symbolic, if I give up the sword it might stand for my will to strike out. If I give up the shield  I could be giving up the will to defend myself or my friends.

"The shield. I need the ability to fight whatever is this important"

i see. we need to talk and test more but it is time for you to wake up.

I started to ask what it meant by that but, suddenly a overwhelming fatigue swept over me and all turned to black...

Back in Equestria, Twilight Sparkle awoke from a strange dream and got out of bed.
