"ahh this is the life right AJ" RainbowDash was sky swimming over the white sand of the calm bay beach.

"Ah have to say, this is mighty nice" AppleJack took another swig of cider and put her hooves behind her head, laying deeper into the sand. "Thanks for taking me along with ya"

"No problem AJ" RainbowDash allowed herself to gently glide down and touch the water like a leaf. "wanna take a dip?"

"Ah thought'cha never ask" AJ rolled over onto all fours and did a little gallop to the water, right before entrance she jumped! Since this was sand she couldn't get enough traction and her jump was a little short. "uh oh" She said right before landing on RD and plunging them both into the cool waters.

"Pwshh, haha, I'm guessing that was an accident" Rainbow spit out the water and laughed

"Nope, ah had full intent on gettin' ya soaked! And I guess it worked" She took the now soaked stetson off her head and threw it back to shore, this time it landed where she thought it would, right on her towel. "Ah'm probably gonna regret that, darn it, now my towel soaked" She didn't have much time to dwell because she was bombarded by a rather large wave that came from a prismatic mare.

"Gotcha!" Dash screamed as she splashed her best friend "what the?" The wave settled and the water was clear, but no sign of AJ?

"Oh did'ja now?" AJ was now behind her and was holding her from the waist so she couldn't fly away. Luckily AJ was a good swimmer, and could hold them both up with little effort.

"How did, what the, AJaaaayyy" Dash growled a bit, She had been caught, which basically meant she lost! "uh AJ behind you, SHARK"

"AHH WHAT THE HAY" AJ let go of Dash and began to swim to shore as furiously as she could, when she reached the sand she didn't stop until she had ran all the way up to the crab grass. She looked back at her friend! O' no she's being devoured by a shark! "what in tar-nation? SHE'S LAUGHING, RainbowDash THAT AIN'T THE LEAST BIT FUNNY, YOU SCARED ME!!" AJ was walking back to the beach now, she could begin to hear the squalling coming from her cyan friend.

"Oh shut up I can't let you win can I?" RD began floating on her back, letting herself relax after that laughing fit.

"I could beat you anytime" AJ was now wadding back into the water

"Oh could you?" RD looked at her soaked best friend, she was kinda cute when she was angry

"Yah ah could ah could do a lot of thing better! Like swim faster, and uh, hold mah' breath under water for longer!" AJ's accent got a bit stronger as she spoke faster

"Well I kinda bet I could hold my breath longer under water, and swim faster at the same time!" RD confidently rolled her hoof in the air, as if motioning the challenge.

"Ya know what, yar on!" AJ grinned cockily.

"Ok so, we race from here to the shore and back ok, or actually back to that log, got it!"

"Got it!" AJ got in a ready-to-dive sort of stance whilst swimming.

"Ok then, three" Rainbow started the countdown.

"Two..." AJ said next.

"One..." They both spoke in unison.

"GO!!" They both dove under water, Dash swam with her eyes closed and so did AJ, they didn't like the salty bay to burn their eyes

From the first few seconds it was clear who was gonna win, Dash had wings on her side and she slid into the shore first, turning her body she began to swim back to the log. She pursed out her lips as if to try to contain the air for a little bit longer when suddenly. An underwater collision. Her lips met something soft, kinda tasted like... Apples? She opens her eyes despite being underwater. She was met with an utterly shocked AppleJack face. Huh why is, OMYGOSHWE'REKISSING!!!! She flapped her wings once to put some distance and rose to the surface. AJ did the same coming to the surface a few seconds later.

They both sat there treading water, waiting for something to happen.

Several minutes passed and they just sat there... waiting... thinking...

Did she like it? What is she thinking. I kinda liked it, she tastes like apples... who'da thunk... I bet she hates me. Probably thinks I meant to do that. I did like it though...

Ah hope she doesn't hate me. Ah just hat t-to be a klutz and bump into her.. her... gentle lips. Ah never could have guessed that a daring Pegasus like her could have a soft embrace like a cloud. And ta top it ahll off, she tasted like skittles mah favorite candy!

"Rainbow" "AppleJack" They said in unison,

"Uh, you go first" Rainbow look at the water.

"Oh uh, I was gonna ask if you liked me..." AppleJack sunk into the water a bit more.

"..." Dash remained silent...

"I'm sorry..." Tear swelled in AJ's eyes

"Why?" Rainbow didn't look up from the water

"What?" Tears were flowing freely from AJ's eyes now.

"Why are ya asking me" Dash spoke up, but didn't look from the water.

"Well *sniff* I wanna know if ah done and messed thing up between us" AJ was still fighting the tears.

"AJ, I don't know if I... love you... but heck, you're my best friend so I sure do like you, and, ya know, I did like the kiss..." Dash look into AJ's eyes

"Gee, ah don't know what ah could ask for" AJ was still crying...

"What's the matter" Dash asked another question.

"Because RainbowDash ah Love you!" AJ spit out that last part and swam to shore, she didn't stop running until got back to her room. She collapsed on her bed and fell asleep rather quickly considering what had happened.

RainbowDash was just happily backstroking back to her cloud home. Tomorrow was going to be...  well, that would be determined tomorrow! Wow, who knew AJ liked her back... wow, just wow...
