Chapter 1: Prologue

Prologue

So, yeah.

"This, boat... this boat, Vince. It will take us to riches."

The darkish brown pony leaned on the railing of the ship. They were immigrants from across Equestria, looking to start a better life.

The pony lit his cigar. He put in his mouth and sighed.

Vince was only a young colt. He was still learning the ways of life from his father.

"Where will we go, papa?" He asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.

His father took the cigar out his mouth, looking at Celestia's sun as it set to make way for the moon.

"New Canterlot."

"The cops, they'll be here any minute!" Vince whispered urgently.

His accomplice grunted as he heaved a rock through the window, smashing the glass with a loud shatter. An alarm blared from the building, alerting the police their location.

"Dutch, hurry the hell up!"

"Would you shut up?" Dutch muttered as he climbed through the window. Broken glass littered the sidewalk as a cool breeze brushed past them. Now safely inside, Dutch called to Vince. "Here, toss me the bag." Vince followed in compliance, throwing him the bag as he waited for police sirens.

Dutch jumped back out through the window, numerous jewels and necklaces falling from the bag. Vince went to grab them but Dutch pulled him back and they ran through the narrow alleyways as they heard the sounds of tires screeching on the cement roads.

The alarm finally stopped, and was immediately replaced by the roar of police sirens.

"Oh, crap. They're here!" Dutch grunted as they weaved through the dark alleyway.

"Go faster!" Vince nudged him as they continued to run.

They finally broke through the maze of alleys, onto a sidewalk lit by a single streetlamp.

Dutch looked both ways before pointing.

"That way." He was aiming his finger at a locked fence. Vince look at him as if he were crazy.

"You idiot!" Vince tried to walk the other way. Dutch pulled him back, taking a black, L shaped object out of his pocket.

"Here, I'll shoot the lock." Dutch whispered, suddenly concentrated. "When I do, run."

Vince nodded and Dutch pulled the trigger, striking the lock directly. They ran straight to the fence, Dutch tackling the fence as the criminals burst through. Police sirens screeched once more as the shot was heard. The fence lead to another alley, and they caught their breath before continuing. Finally, the sirens melted away into the background noise as they escaped.

They leaned against a wall, panting with exhaustion. Vince spoke up first.

"So...What did you manage to grab?" He muttered.

Dutch opened the bag without response. Piles upon piles of gold and bronze shone through opening of the bag.

"Oh, hell yes." Vince whispered, shaking his head.
