Some ponies believe that fate holds the cards for everything and that all lives are preordained before they have even taken their first breaths. Other ponies feel like the future is an unwritten slate, one which can be drawn upon through their actions in the present. But when it comes down to it, what is the future, really? Why do we follow it indefinitely, unable to break away and make our own timelines?

These are the questions that Princess Twilight Sparkle became obsessed with when the future turned into a bleak and empty version of itself. Her life had been turned upside-down and she had lost the most precious thing in her entire existence. Without hope, she decided to search anyway, desperately trying to find a way to fix the cruel world that she had found herself in.

Perhaps, somewhere amidst the pain and sorrow, she can find just that.
