Chapter 1: The Final Second

The Final Second

Pinkie Pie stared out over the cliff, admiring the green forestry that spread for miles that was known as the Everfree Forest. She would come out here from time to time; when she couldn’t figure something out or if she had a bad day. It was her relaxation spot, a private sanctuary where she could stop and collect her thoughts. The scenery was immaculate and the weather would be perfect on whatever day she would come. Today was of those days.

Pinkie's week had been stressful to say the least, and coming here was the only solace she could find recently. She pretty much wanted to forget everything about the last three months. All the fights, all the drama, all the crying she endured will be nothing more than a memory to her. Pinkie enjoyed spending her time at her sanctuary and felt a strange comforting feeling every time she went there. Pinkie wondered if she'll feel like this all the time after.

Celestia’s sun was shining brightly between the blue, partly clouded sky. Pinkie sat on the edge of the cliff with her two back hooves hanging over. She had found the spot when her and her friends had to get rid of the dragon that was sleeping in the cave. The cave sat empty now, with nothing but rocks, boulders and darkness filling the hole.

Pinkie continued to stare out over Everfree forest and then she turned her head over to Ponyville. She gave a sad sigh but a warm smile as she gazed at the small community. She could see ponies scurrying around, minding their own business. She always wondered why ponies were always so busy. Why couldn't they just stop and relax once in a while? So busy, she thought, always so busy.

Pinkie smiled and tilted her head back and closed her eyes, enjoying the rays the sun was so generously giving her. She stayed like this for a few minutes before she looked around and savored her surroundings. She wanted to make sure that she could remember every detail because after today, she will never come back here again.

She had brought a few things with her: a picnic blanket and basket, a half eaten daisy sandwich, a picture in a broken picture frame, and a letter that was sealed in a container. Pinkie picked up the frame and immediately started to cry. She tried to stop herself as she sniffed and sniveled and she stopped with only a few tears in her eyes.

I shouldn’t be crying. This is a happy moment for me so I should be. Besides, everything will be fine, I know it will.

Pinkie looked up toward the sun as it fell behind a blanket of clouds. She looked down and smiled. “It’s time.”

Pinkie backed away from the edge and stood on her back haunches. She looked out toward Ponyville one last time before she turned around with her back toward the edge. Tears fell freely against her cheek as she wore a complacent expression on her face. She sighed deeply and tried to ready herself. She was having second thoughts and she knew she would but she thought she could just shake them. She stood there backing out of it over and over again.

Now… no. Okay, now… no. Okay Pinkie, now… No!

She was starting to sob loudly while she stood there. She thought she was a coward, among other things, and thought that she would normally never back down this easily. A million thoughts were running through her head but one finally stuck with her. She thought about her friends and what they would think if they saw her. Pinkie stopped crying and felt herself let everything go. That last thought did it.

She let herself fall freely from the cliff as she closed her eyes and released every tension in her body. She felt truly and utterly relaxed as she plummeted to the ground below. She picked up speed at an incredible rate and felt the force of the wind pushing up against her back. The roaring sound of the wind penetrated her ears but she didn’t pay attention. In fact, to Pinkie, the only thing she could hear was her own thoughts.

“Finally Pinkie, you can be truly relaxed. No more crying, no more struggling.”

Pinkie smiled at the thought and felt her stomach stop knotting. In the first time in a long time, she was in bliss.

“Pinkie…”

Pinkie ignored the voice in her head, trying to enjoy her last few seconds of life.

“Pinkie…”

This time the voice said it in a sing-song voice. Pinkie continued to ignore the all too familiar voice and wished death came sooner just so it could shut up.

“PINKIE!”

”What?! I can’t believe you won’t leave me alone even now!”

“Well from the look of things, this will be the last time I have a say in anything so I thought I could get my last word in edgewise.”

“Better make it quick then. The ground is looking a lot more interesting.”

“Hmm. Good point. Well I just have to say that it was great I was with you for so long and I’m sorry that it has to end. I tried.”

“You tried? That’s hilarious. All you’ve ever done is criticize me but not anymore. I won’t have to take anymore from anypony.

“We’ll see about that.”

"Ha, and just what is that supposed to mean?

"Why do you care? Aren't you in the middle of your suicide? To you, what i think doesn't matter anymore... I'm out. Have a good afterlife.

She felt the voice leave her mind as it left her with that thought. Pinkie didn’t care though, her target was a mere fifty feet away and she welcomed it with open arms. Five more seconds, just five more seconds. She turned over in mid-fall so she would hit the ground face first making it quicker. She smiled euphorically and spread her arms wide.

Freedom.
