Coast of Australia
The house depressed Matthew greatly, two days before his parents conversion move it had been a place of celebration jokes laughter and hope’s as to what was to come, now after all possessions but his had been removed it was just an empty shell of a memory waiting for its last resident too make his decisions. Matthew Ingram The sole resident of the house couldn’t bear moving his things out yet and had resolved to move his stuff a when he had made his decision, however as his friends used to joke it took Matthew a whole century to choose what he wanted for break feast that morning not to mention making the single most important decision in his life.
On the way to the café Matthew would pass a stretch of beach when he had been younger he would come here with his family to collect seashells with his family now it was one of the many terraforming experiments, seeing if human terrain could be converted for Equestrian use it had been turned bright and pastel coloured like many other towns now dotting the entirety of Australia a few pegasi moved clouds above. Matthew could tell from their amazed expressions and the way their instructor facehoofed they weren’t natural born Pegasus, once Matthew reached the café he could instantly tell something had happened, almost all of the staff had disappeared leaving the creepy old man who made milkshakes at the counter, Matthew sighed, walking up to the counter, “Hello Todd” he practically moaned “where is everyone?” Todd said nothing; he instead slid a note to Matthew along with a milkshake and a bag of Chips, “on the ‘ouse” he growled “from Clarisse” Matthew was surprised by Todd’s sudden verbiage he had only ever spoken once in Matthews’s earshot and even then he was sure it had just been a grunt that sounded coincidentally like a word. “ o…ok… I’ll just go then” Said Matthew walking out the door with the items proffered to him, truth to be told he didn’t like empty places. They depressed him, and he knew he would have to be alone when he read the note
Matthew sat down on the park bench, taking a sip on the milkshake he opened up the note and began reading
Dear Matthew
Heya! Sorry I couldn’t see ya today but the districts numbers were pulled up and you know what that means!
Matthew nodded apprehensively, as a part of a political deal with the equestrian ruling party Australia was to be totally converted into an equestrian Country to help deal with the crippling overpopulation plaguing the land it was mandatory for all Australian citizens to be converted, to that effect Australia had been Divided into thousands of small districts, when that districts number was announced was pulled all the citizens either had to move away from the country, or proceed to conversion Matthews district was numbered 804,108.
Anyway I was writing the note to say seeya to you; my district is being terraformed in 40 days so even when I return to the café you won’t be able to visit until you get converted as well. Listen….. I know you’ve had some…. “Issues”…. with the whole thing but I think you should go through with it, that way we’ll still be able to hang out and plus you don’t have to move outta’ the house! Anyway the Bureaus van has arrived so I guess this is it ether way
From Clarisse
Ps. isn’t it strange how Todd has---
“Damn” a stain from where the milkshake was placed on the letter Matthew guessed it had to do with Todd’s recent Verbiage. Matthew sat deeper in the chair yet another recommendation for the process but Matthew wasn’t sure he could take it, first off the idea of becoming another Race entirely terrified him not to mention the painful gene therapy that came with the injection of EQD 25. Word on the street was that a much less painful serum was being produced but by the time it was taken to produce it would be too late for Australia to receive. Matthew was distracted by another human walking down the street a rare sight these days. The man had blond hair slicked back in an 50s style fashion resembling a greaser from that period, his eyes were hidden by his large aviator glasses which took up most of his rough cut face he was wearing a very gaudy Hawaiian t-shirt along with a pair of jeans. “Hiya bro” the man said obnoxiously “Ain’t you a sight for sore eyes” “you could say that yes” said Matthew uncomfortably he had only been called bro by his own brothers, “aw well ya don’t have to blush now don’t ya? My Name Is James Miller! I’m headed down to the bureau for conversion!” Replied Miller. Matthew looks up surprised “ you sound rather nonchalant about the issue…” he Blurts out. “Non-cha-what? This is amazing the world is changin’ and we get to be a part of it!” Matthew was surprised by this Millers attitude, it had taken his family weeks to decide what they wanted to do, it sounded like this man had made up his mind 10 seconds after being told about it
“Personally I can’t decide between Earth or pegasi pony” continued Miller “I mean sure a strong spirit would be handy, but flight, bro, flight…” . Matthew was made to leave but was distracted by a rather bright and unfortunately distracting fire on a tanker.
To be contunued
Authors note: we’ll that was the pilot for my first fic this if you hadn’t figured it out is an au fic for the Recursive fan fiction the conversion Bureau. A tad ambitious for my first fic I do realise but I will endeavour anyway, If this fic is popular enough I plan to expand upon this adding more characters and actually including, Pony characters, this was to just give a taste of the writing style and the universe which led to its shortness. Please leave feedback I EAT it FOR BREAKFEAST. But I do Value your contribution.
