Spike pushed open the library door with his foot, a large brown paper bag filled with an assortment of food items occupying his claws. “Here’s the groceries, Twi,” he said in a gleeful tone, struggling to peek over the foody mound which blocked his view.

The pony was laying in middle of the hard wooden floor, her muzzle unsurprisingly shoved into a book. She quickly finished her paragraph and turned her eyes up to watch as the small dragon waddled uncomfortably into the kitchen with the heavy weight. “Thanks sweetie…babe…” She laughed. “Yeah, I don’t know about you, but calling you these affectionate, loving, pet names just doesn’t sound right. How about I just stick with Spike?”

Spike struggled to lift the bag up onto the kitchen counter, but finally, with a grunt, heaved it up to the location where its contents would be meticulously sorted and then resorted into their correct locations in the room. The word ‘meticulous’ only referred to his mindset. Twilight quite enjoyed the sorting, and that was the exact reason he was leaving it to her.

“Yeah, Twilight Sparkle saying ‘babe’ just doesn’t sound right,” he said with a laugh, dusting off his claws as he returned from the kitchen.

She giggled and gave him a warm smile. “But yes, thank you very much, Spike.”

“Oh, it was nothin’,” he said, walking over to the mare and leaning down for his real thank you.

“I guess you deserve it,” she sighed out teasingly before pressing her lips against his. He cupped his claw around her velvety cheek and released a contented breath as she pulled away. They gazed into one another’s eyes a moment before his hand dropped back to his side.

“So, what’re you reading anyways?” he asked, looking down to the book at his feet.

Twilight quickly blocked the words with her hoof, not that he could read such small text unless getting closer anyways. She gave him an awkward smile as he tilted his head. “Oh, it’s nothing! Just the normal boring stuff.”

“None of the stuff you read is boring, just confusing…which, I guess, makes it boring? Yeah, forget that. But seriously, what are you reading?” he asked, attempting to peer over and around her hoof to read a few lines.

The alicorn chuckled nervously and tilted her head forward. Her eyes were then effectively hidden by her flat, silky bangs. “It’s nothing…really!”

“Nothing, huh?” he questioned, crossing his arms with a huff and glaring at her with his fierce emerald eyes as she peeked up.

“Nope, nothing at all…like I said, just your average, run of the mill, boring book that an eggheaded pony like Twilight Sparkle reads,” she blurted out nervously. Spike frowned before extending his arm and repeatedly clasping his claw together in a ‘give it here’ motion. “No Spike, I’m not going to show you,” she stated plainly.

“Come on, Twilight!” he whined. “I’m just curious!”

“Just because you’re curious, doesn’t mean you get to see it…I’d show you, but it’s just that-” her words came to a sudden halt as the dragon lunged ferociously forward and snatched the book from beneath her hoof before she had even the slightest moment to react. The pony swallowed deeply, her body utterly frozen in place.

Spike gave her a smug nod before flipping the book over to see the words engraved upon its cover. His smirk quickly turned into a gape and his eyes grew larger and larger as they traveled over the title. He turned his gaze up to her ashamed face, then back down at the rather awkward title before him, and finally back up at her.

She shook her head silently, her mouth hanging open as she attempted to push out exactly what she wanted to say. “Spike….I was going to tell you, but I wanted to learn more about it first.”

His cheeks turned a deep crimson. “You were really planning on us…doing this stuff?”

“I was mainly just curious,” she said with a shrug. “But yes, sex is something we really should be considering. We’ve certainly been together long enough at this point. More than long enough if you ask somepony like Rainbow Dash.”

His fangs pushed out from the sides of his mouth as he smiled, nodding his head eagerly. “I’m definitely up for it if you are!”

She chuckled and slowly rolled her eyes. “I knew a dragon your age would be.”

“So, when were you planning on doing this?” he asked, causing her to smirk.

“Sorry Spike, not anytime soon. I still have plenty of research to do. It gets hard when you have to contend with the sex patterns of two different species. I haven’t found one book that even mentions interspecies sex between dragons and ponies.”

Spike responded with a shrug. “They can’t be that different. It’d probably be easier just to, well, do it,” he said greedily.

The mare let out a small laugh and shook her head. “And that’s another reason I wasn’t going to tell you just yet.”

“Sometimes it’s the only way to learn. Just sayin’.”

Twilight rolled her eyes once more. “You know, if you hadn’t have snatched the book from beneath my hooves; you wouldn’t have even known I was planning this.”

“I know, I know, but now I do!” he whined. “Can we just, like, test it or something? If it doesn’t work we can just stop, or try to, then do it your way.”

The alicorn raised a hoof to her chin and rubbed it gently against its fur as she pondered the question. “Okay…we’ll give it a try. But don’t get it into that big head of yours that this ‘begging’ stuff works. I…want this nearly just as badly as you do. All this reading has got me curious, and Rainbow made it sound…fun.”

“Yes!” the dragon muttered under his breath in celebration, raising a fisted claw into the air.
She giggled as she raised herself up onto all fours. “Looks like somepony’s excited. Well, come on, let’s get started.”

Spike’s celebration came to a sudden halt and his eyes widened in surprise. Just moments ago he was sure he wanted to perform such a deed with Twilight, but when it came down to it; he wasn’t sure if he was even the slightest bit prepared.

“You do want this, don’t you?” the alicorn asked, curiously tilting her head.

“Well…yeah, I just, yeah…” he mumbled.

“You’re not getting cold feet on me after all that trouble you went through, are you?” she teased. “You’ve gotten me into a very vulnerable mindset. Better take me while you still have the chance.” With that, the mare turned and headed for the stairs, swishing her tail from side to side to give a very revealing look of her plump purple plot.

He rubbed his claws together in an almost maniacal manor as he followed. Atta boy, Spikey. You got her right where you want her…just don’t screw it up or get all freaked out. It’ll be like everything else, well, except better! Once you get started, all the worrying disappears.
