A childhood accident endowed a young Twilight Sparkle with a shameful secret that she has kept hidden throughout her life. But at the same time she has harbored a deep and abiding love for her mentor, Princess Celestia, but knew nothing could come from her forbidden feelings.

Celestia herself shares this almost obsessive affection towards her student, and after a simple misunderstanding thrusts Twilight's secret into the spotlight, a romance for the ages begins. But Twilight soon discovers more about her new lover's secret past than she has shared with anyone. Celestia is a truly broken mare, centuries of abuse and loneliness have worn her down to a shell of a pony, a single mote of light dangling by a thread above an eternity of darkness. Can Twilight heal Celestia's broken soul before she loses her to the madness of the Nightmare, and all of Equestria suffers under an uncaring and brutal tyrant sun? Can love truly conquer all?

... Well of course it can, but can Equestria survive the insanity of two insanely powerful magical beings in a loving if mentally-unstable relationship? Throw in an attempted coup, the return of an ancient evil, and possibly an unwanted pregnancy, and well... you get this story.
