Act 2: Chapter 3

I began to think what will happen next. Obviously The Master Mind will attack Canterlot again, so some extra defences is needed. Also will Alex be safe? Ponyville is a small town and wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell to survive. Guess I have to move back into Canterlot once again and total isolate Ponyville when the need arises. Anyway back to more recent issues. I landed in the back garden and saw Luna standing there. Her mane was frazzled and her eyes closed but still having a look of anger on them. I touched down on the ground and opened the door. I walked out and the pod soon flew back to the foundry. I took a deep breath and walked towards Luna.

"Hi Luna," I nervously said. She stood firmly and maintained her gaze at me.

"You did it didn't you?" She asked.

"I did," Suddenly a hoof struck me across the face.

"You foal! Now look what is going to happen. You are going to spend all your days in that forsaken place and going to end up dead!" Luna screamed. "I guess you didn't realise that me and Alex love you! Your sleeping on the couch tonight!" Luna stormed back in and I could hear the bedroom door slam.

"Of course I realise you both love me," I muttered to myself. I went inside and threw myself on the coach.

I woke up the next morning, or afternoon. I'm not sure. I woke up to Alex prodding me.

"Dad?" He nervously asked. I dragged myself of the couch and rubbed my eyes. I looked at the clock. 11am.

"Yes son?" I groaned.

"Is it true?" Alex asked.

"Is what true?"

"You re-opening the foundry?" I leaned in towards him.

"How do you know about the foundry?" I asked with caution. Alex just chuckled.

"You and Mom was arguing about it. I read a couple of books that you decided to write about the foundry. Interesting stuff but what I want to know. Why?"

"You are too young to know yet". Alex stomped his foot down on the floor.

"Oh come on! You know I am more mature than every kid at school!"

"Fine. You want to know. The foundry was a building I set up in my first weeks in Canterlot. It was first to produce new technology for Equestria. It kind of went to researching war machines in the Fungus war".

"So you are the producer of the Sentinels?" Alex asked in awe.

"You know too much. I see you are a bookworm and also like to go through my stuff. Yes the Sentinels were my idea."

"That's awesome! I always wanted to see a Sentinel. I only saw pictures." Suddenly Alex went close to me. "Do you think you can take me to the foundry?"

"You know too much, too much to be good for you. I am not taking you to the foundry because your mother would kill me!" I exclaimed.

"Oh come on! If Mom knows I've been in the foundry she will change her mind. Maybe even she will allow it after". Alex huffed. I thought for a moment.

"Well you have finished your studies and you could use come practical work. Also I guess you have a point, Luna would like the idea of opening the foundry if me and you worked together. OK then, I am going in a few minutes, so get ready". Alex flew at me and hugged me tight.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will get my stuff!" Alex shouted in glee and ran up the stairs. I sorted out my hair and put on a change of clothes. I called the pod down and landed on it's usual place on the garden. Alex soon ran down the stairs and joined me outside. Alex and I ran into the pod as quickly as possible, Alex jumped in first, looking around in awe. I soon walked in slowly and sat down in my usual seat. I typed in the destination and pressed a button. Soon we was airborne, flying towards Canterlot in speeds unheard of in Equestria. I looked down at the clouds and pegasus weather teams as we tore through the skies. The pod was only restricted to a certain height at transport speeds so we won't smash into pegasi. We soon hovered over the hangar in the mountain range and landed on a lightly snow covered landing pad. I pulled the door open and walked out of the pod. Alex soon followed.

I walked to the door and did the same routine, punch in the code. The door opened much more swiftly, only making the noise it should, the gears turning. I walked into the empty shaft and flicked the lights on. Alex and I kept a brisk pace. We turned into the workshop and I turned towards Alex. He was looking around room in awe.

"Welcome to the house of fun Alex. This is where it all begins, the main workshop".

"Don't you just use your PAD to make everything?" Alex asked in confusion.

"This is only capable of so much. These massive mechanical arms build much more". I gave a small smile. "Time for you to meet someone. DEL!" I shouted.

"Yes sir? Oh! Who is this?" DEL asked in surprise. "Judging by the anatomy. He is your son".

"Well spotted. Alex meet the Digital Engineering Life-form or just DEL. I created him to help me with several projects".

"Pleased to make your acquaintance".

"Yeah, likewise," Alex said in complete awe.

"Sir. Project Sol is ready, we only need a launch date".

"Today, we need that thing in orbit as soon as possible!"

"Yes sir."

I walked to the launch pad overlook. A giant fuel metal arm pulled out of the rocket and rested on the ground. I began to look up at several screens which was calculating the flight path for the rocket. I began to grin like a maniac as numbers began to count down.

"Dad? What is this?" Alex asked in confusion.

"This is Project Sol. A satellite. Basically it's a machine that goes around the planet like the moon." I explained. "This machine is a weapon to fight our enemies." Alex blinked a couple of times.

"So, is this like a massive gun?"

"To put it simply. It's a massive space gun". I grinned. "To be more precise. It is a fusion cannon. The six chambers are fuel canisters that inject into the reactor. The reactor then fires a barrage of plasma at the target. The plasma is then contained in the area with EM beams and then reacts, causing one very toasty mess!" I lectured.

"Oh. Awesome!" Alex walked beside me and looked at the rocket. I looked at the countdown. T minus two minutes!

"Today marks two achievements. The first satellite for Equestria and the massive turning point in this bitter war!" I began to laugh. "Yes, we can change the world!" I could barely contain my laughter!

The clock counted down. One minute. Thirty seconds. Ten seconds! I saw the rocket engines beginning to ignite the fuel. Small flames spewed out of the exhaust. Five seconds. The inferno grew. Covering a few meters of ground in flames. Four. Three. Two. One.

"Lift off!" I shouted. Soon the engine exploded into life. Fire began to engulf the entire launchpad. Soon the metal cylinder began to rise up and travel along the large metal tube above. I had several camera drones recording the action. After a few seconds, the rocket flew up into the sky and left behind Canterlot. After a few minutes, the rocket hit supersonic. Causing a satisfying boom to thunder across all of Equestria. I saw camera drones picking up several ponies looking or running in fear as the rocket reached into the higher points of the atmosphere. I soon lost visual on the rocket and had to use radar. The rocket seemed in good condition. It had already been twelve minutes and it already reached the exosphere. About average for a rocket. Soon a bit of debris was detected off the rocket. I checked the log and saw it ejected the main thrusters. Everything is going to plan! More time passed. The calculations had shown the rocket had reached orbital velocity. Most of the time I was just waiting eagerly for the next stage to commence. Several camera drones had been released when the rocket's engines stopped. Soon the fairings flew off, revealing Project Sol in all it's glory. I saw the large cannon extend and the behemoth satellite aim towards the planet. Large panels extended out. The weapon is ready! After all these years of preparation. It is done!

Soon a bleeping noise came from my main office computer. I wonder when they would drop in for a call. I walked towards the office and pressed a button, a video feed of a displeased Princess Celestia came up on my screen.

"Hello Celestia, what brings to call me?" I asked, holding back a slight giggle.

"I think you know what," Celestia narrowed her eyes at me. "What was that just 15 minutes ago!"

"Project Sol". Celestia lowered her head.

"Oh Lucas, not this again!"

"All I can say is, we might have a better chance at winning this war once and for all!"

"Lucas, there is no war," Celestia sighed.

"There is! You may not see it, but I can feel it. A war cannot end just like that," I clicked my fingers for emphasis. "Until I see the Master Mind's head brought to me on a silver platter. I will not give up!"

"Lucas, please. You need to rest, Luna has told me about your nightmares".

"Rest? Rest! This is the worst time to rest! We need to act now Celestia! I will act with or without your help!"

"Lucas, I am shutting you down. It is the best thing for you. Make your preparations to leave!"

"You think it will be that easy? I began to giggle.

"Lucas, please do not do anything hasty".

"You either let me fight, or I will fight without your permission!"

"Lucas. I am doing this for Alex's sake!"

"Oh, Alex's sake? That reminds me," I grabbed Alex and brought him in view of the camera. "Like father like son". I grinned.

"Alex?" Celestia gasped.

"Hi auntie!" Alex waved.

"What are you doing there! That place is dangerous!"

"Well, we do have like hundreds of Sentinels protecting us!" Alex waved his hand in dismissal. "Don't worry auntie. I can look after myself".

"Fine. Go ahead, but I am telling Luna about this". Celestia sighed in exasperation. "But hear this Lucas. If you harm any of my subjects intentionally. I will not hesitate to use the elements of harmony!" Soon the video feed cut off. I hugged Alex.

"Now that we have my major concern out of the way. Want to see the cannon work?" I asked.

"Yes please! That would be epic!" Alex shouted in glee.

I clicked a button on the computer and came into view of a large empty desert. I recently purchased some weapons testing areas to have fun. Now for the moment of truth. I took out a key that I had around my neck on a necklace. I put the key in and twisted it.

"Weapon arming password. Ten, nine, six, alpha, tango, x-ray, one, five".

"Pass code received and correct," DEL authenticated. "Connecting to Project Sol main computers". I typed in the coordinates of the field and began to see the gigantic satellite turn.

"Cannon ready to fire, awaiting command". I beamed like a maniac at this. I then did what I always wanted to do. Press the red button! I smacked my hand on it, resulting in the cannon to barrage the field with several plasma strikes. I watched in wonder and happiness as nuclear fireballs rained from the sky and plummeted into the ground. Soon after a few seconds I saw the plasma beginning to collect and a single point, then, kaboom. The entire field exploded in a nuclear fireball. Once again, I laughed like a mad man.

"It works! It works!" I laughed manically. This celebration was soon interrupted by a knock on the metal door behind me. I turned around and saw a stallion with a brilliant white coat and a sky blue mane.

"Well well my friend, I congratulate you on your success. Looks like you have been busy". The stallion said with his German accent.

"Mystic?" I asked in disbelief.

"Yes my friend, I have returned to work once more!" Mystic assured, smiling.
