Part 3:
They are connected...
"Do you really have to go dad?" I asked him as he made for the door.
"Yes... I need to Steve..." He turned to face me. I walked up to him, trying to keep a strong face.
"W-Why?" I asked him, "What if you don't come back?"
He sighed, "Tell you what..." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a chain with two metal plates fixed to it, "... These are supposed to be destroyed today, so I can get new tags, buuut..." He grabbed my hand and squeezed it in a way so that it just opened; he put his old dog tags in my hand and closed it. "I want you to hold on to these, if you still have them by the time I get back, I'll let you play Gilda. I promise…" Gilda was Dad's first guitar when he was young. To be able to play that would be an honor.
I looked up to him and smiled, he looked at me and stepped back. "PRIVATE! A-TEN-SHUN" He said just bellow a yell.
"SIR!" I joined in.
"A Mission has been presented, do you accept?"
"Yes sir!" I feigned a salute and had a silly grin on my face. The he hugged me with his free arm and left out the door across the front yard. I looked in my hand and saw the tags, 'Lieutenant David "Shadow" Greys...'. I looked up and the figure that was my dad got further and further away, then the four figures stood in view on the front lawn... They were more noticeable now, there was a hawk looking thing, a zebra, a gray pony looking thing and a blue pony... looking... thing with a spike out of it's head.
Above them, however, was another pony-looking thing, it had wings. The blinding light behind it silhouetted it. So I didn't get much of it, but it had curvy like hair... Then it hit me... Hard...
I woke up with a start, as what you would normally do if you were about to be smashed by something, I groaned as I drew my hand up to my face. Something was different. I groggily turned my head to my clock…
10:38 Saturday 06/11/27
The grogginess from last night vaporized completely as my thoughts instantly turned to DAD!. Then my thoughts turned to a slight concern, the kind you get where something important is not where it’s supposed to be, because I realized what was so different… This morning lacked the smooth deep texture of my dad’s voice, Goodly morning to you, goodly morning to you. Goodly morning dear Steven, Goodly morning to you.
My back felt as if it turned into gray stone. Then I noticed that something was very, very wrong.
"It is time to find the bearers for your magic..."
"How will we know who gets what?"
"The Elements will choose the bearers, you just have to find them."
"Where are they?"
"Your senses will tell you, now, make haste... We cannot last much longer without him."
"We are ready." With that the spirit took form, and left it's domain.
The orange pony, the yellow pony and the human sat at the table. The ponies were sitting normally while the human decided to sit with her legs crossed, which was a mistake. The human was happily munching on a carrot stick with her eyes closed, experimenting with the different ways she could use her changed jaw.
The shy yellow pony faced away from the human as her cheek line turned red, the human, of course, couldn’t see. The workhorse was eating a piece of lettuce when she gazed across to the human, more importantly, how she was sitting. The cowpony almost choked on her food when she looked at the lower part of the human’s body. The yellow pony was quite used to strange animals and seeing their… parts… so she didn’t really bring it up. The workhorse however, the blood pressure in her facial area increased dramatically as her cheek line turned bright red. Why ahm ah looking at Twilight’s… No… Argh, cahnsarnit. Umm… Ah have to say something…, with that the workhorse swallowed her food and cleared her throat.
The human snapped out of her analytical trance and glanced toward her cowpony friend, “Yes, Applejack? You… need something?”
“Umm… Twilight… Yer uhm… Ya’ll are… showing…” Applejack pulled out the last word as she managed to blush even redder then before.
“What?” The human looked down and gasped, “Oh! Oh shoot! Um…” She reached behind her and pulled off the sheet from the bed and covered her… lower body. “Sorry about that Applejack.” Now it was her turn to blush profusely. She forced out an awkward laugh, along with that of Applejack. Fluttershy just sat quietly, having a small giggle at the scene before her.
The door was knocked rapidly. “Twilight! Dahling I’m back! And I know you would be absolutely amaaazed at my designs!” The fashionista called from the door.
“Ah’ll get it!” Applejack exclaimed, angsty to get away from the awkward situation they were in. She trotted down the stairs and opened the door. The fashion designer walked casually into the library, her designs floating through the air. The designs looked ‘human’ shaped and looked like they could easily fit on Twilight’s new form.
One of the designs was a light purple dress of sorts; it had a short top section with small frills at the ends of the openings at the sides, the lower section was longish and dangled lightly as she moved it across the air. The second design was a two-piece set, just casual ware, a dark purple shirt with her cutie mark in the center and comfortable looking black pants, the pants looked tight and long. The final design was a very modest set of really short pants like clothing; Applejack estimated that they would only just cover her… underneath.
"I know that they are not much, but given more time I may have been able to produce either better or more clothes suited... for... you?" The marshmallow fashion designer drifted off by the end of her speech when she looked towards the human that used to be Twilight.
The human descended the stairs with amateur control, constantly stumbling and using Fluttershy and the railing as a brace. Her sheet still held onto her hips but more than once it threatened to slide off.
“Umm… If I could suggest... Twilight?” Fluttershy said by the time they were halfway down the stairs.
“Yes Fluttershy?" The former unicorn said with a frustrated tone.
"Umm... I think you might be thinking too hard about what you are doing..." Fluttershy said.
"Well of course I am! How else would I learn?" The frustrated human said, stumbling down the last few steps while leaning heavily on the pegasus and the railing.
"Try... not to think too hard about what you're doing... Your body looks experienced, try just walking from A to B... don't analyze it..." The meek pegasus suggested.
"Umm... ok..." The human shakily stood up straight and wobbled a bit. She cleared her mind and focused on moving forward to her table. Her right leg lifted slightly and moved forward, her upper body leaned forward on to her right leg as her left leg went up and over took her right leg, her body followed suit and leaned it's wait onto her left leg. The human was surprised, "Wow. How did you figure that out Fluttershy?"
The pegasus blushed, "I don't know, I guess I just... Guessed?" She said as she hovered around the human.
The human used it's hand to pull back a chair, move around it and sit down, "I guess I should send a letter to the princess now, but first... Clothes!"
But before the human could get her new clothes on Fluttershy's wings locked up. She whimpered as she fell to the floor. She cried as she hit the ground. Her friends swarmed around her trying to figure out what was wrong, she couldn't see them. They called out to her, she didn't respond. The human picked her up and bolted up the steps to her room, Fluttershy couldn't feel her. She coughed sharply as the was placed into bed.
She screamed abruptly as she feinted...
The spirit searched the skies, finding the perfect bearers for her 5 powers. It was over the town of Hoofington. Using it's flawless sight it saw a lone pony that was towing her wagon away from it, with a dejected and rejected persona about her. A determined pony of cosmic ability, and perfect candidate.
The spirit hovered in waiting, for the perfect moment.
"THERE SHE IS, THERE'S THE LIAR!"
"THOUGHT YOU COULD MAKE FUN OF OUR CITY HUH?!"
"GET HER!"
"Oh no." The pony said as she tried to unhook her wagon. She saw her attackers, they were coming at her with common farming utensils! Farming utensils or not the mare new they were made for stabbing the ground, and worked. What was she thinking?! Going to Hoofington?! The town she made out to be the weakest?! Not only did she not get reception, but got kicked out as well? And to add to that, now a gang of brutes were after her!
She left her wagon as she ran away from them.
"THAT'S HER ALRIGHT!"
"LOOK AT HER, RUNNING AWAY!"
"COWARD!"
She looked back towards her wagon as the gang of four, no three stallions tore into it. Two of them ripped off the two 'T's as the other grabbed the 'x', replacing their original weapons. They then smashed one of her lights and the pyrotechnics when off. Her wagon lit up in a huge colorful explosion. She kept running as the gang ran towards her, one of them through the 'x' towards her. The 'x' hit her in the back of the head, and she fell down face first. She rolled several times and landed on her side, facing away from her attackers. Blood seeped out of the wound that was created, she lifted her hoof behind her head to feel it, the hoof came back the usual azure color, but with a line of maroon blood across it. She looked back to her attackers. Her mind ached as she closed her eyes, This is the end.
The perfect moment...
She opened her eyes again, and the world wasn't as colorless as she saw it before. Time seemed to slow as she stood and faced the approaching stallions. She blinked. The three stallions' bodies lit up, she could see their heat? She blinked. Her azure colored magic funneled into her vision, then it turned green. She blinked. Wind around her whipped against her, her blood-stained-once-crystal-white mane whipped about as she floated off the ground. She blinked. The stallions slowed down, and dropped their makeshift weapons. Fear flooded into their faces. She blinked. The rage in her heart tore against her better judgment, her face scrunched up with pure rage. Her figure shined a brilliant white. She smiled as she looked at the fear in their eyes. She blinked. She then saw some figures. They were on the ground at each of the attackers' feet, they looked like they were in pain. Was she causing this? Her heart and her mind ached as regret quickly overcame the feelings of rage.
She closed her eyes. She floated back down to the ground and landed. She opened her eyes, the little figures could not be seen, she looked towards the stallions as they ran. The shining swept around her body and receded into her eyes, her eyes ached a bit from it but she couldn't care. Hmp! Foals! She thought then coughed, she turned from the burning wreckage.
She expended too much energy, she stumbled a bit further. A tear seeped from her eye as she remembered what was in her wagon; A picture of her mother and father in a rare moment of happiness together, her mother's tomes, her father's diamond, her plush toys she got got when she was little, but worst still... her mother's hat and her father's cape. Another tear seeped from her pearl eyes as she stumbled along. She began to say to herself, "Ha, serves them right, nobody can beat the great... and powerful... Trix..." She coughed, then she blinked. Then she fell. She curled up in a ball and fell into unconsciousness.
She was connected... One down four to go.
The spirit left the sleeping blue magician in search for another candidate. It glided effortlessly through the air over the town of Manehatten. It had gave away it's power of sight so it used it's magnificent hearing, the spirit heard music, fast yet calm, fierce yet tranquil, harsh yet soft. The bearer was there... It had to find it...
It floated over to the center of the square, where it noticed the commotion, two dueling musicians, battling for honor. A respectable fight, it thought. It flew down to the battle. Two ponies with instruments on either side of the square, a unicorn and an earth pony, both playing wonderful music. The spirit debated which pony to enchant, the unicorn was determined and ready, while the earth pony was calm and tranquil, just like her music.
She then knew which pony to enchant.
The mint musician pony ran into her rival's temporary apartment, "VINYL!" She yelled. Vinyl showed herself from the bathroom.
"You... We... Have to hurry..." The mint pony gasped, "It's about Octavia..."
"Lyra? I thought you two hated each other?" Vinyl steadied Lyra, she was about to fall over from exhaustion.
"We did... Until... we... Just come on!" Lyra shot out of the apartment and Vinyl followed her.
"Where are we going?!" The white unicorn called out to her leader.
"The courtyard!"
"Why are we going there?!"
"It's where we had our battle! Hurry up!"
"BATT-?!" The white pony stated to object, but was interrupted by a loud pained cry, it was Octavia. The pair cornered to the courtyard, where they saw Octavia rolling on the ground on one side of the square with her hooves to her ears and her teeth clenched in the middle of a crowd of concerned ponies. "WHAT DID YOU DO?!" Vinyl yelled at Lyra as she sped up to run to her partner.
"Make... it stop!" Octavia yelled between cries. Vinyl ran up to Octavia.
"Make what stop?" Vinyl said to Octavia.
"The ringing! MAKE IT STOP!" The gray pony yelled, then groaned. She cried out loud and started thrashing her body about. Vinyl tried to grab the writhing earth pony with her magic, but when she did she got forced back, and a figure appeared, just for a millisecond, but it was still there. It was tallish, dark-blue colored and it sparkled.
Octavia rose off the ground but still screamed and cried, her figure shined. A shrill ringing sound could be heard.
Then Octavia heard something, "...pening to her?!" Then she stopped squirming and screaming and everything fell silent.
She slowly floated back to the ground, the shining crept around her body until it went up and entered her ears and throat. She was gently placed on the ground by an unseen force. Vinyl crept up to her partner.
"Tavi?" The white pony asked.
The musician half-opened her bloodshot eyes, "I-I-Is it over?" The gray pony asked her partner. The white pony knelt down to the other and nuzzled her neck.
"Yes, I hope so..."
"T-thank you Vinyl..." She reached her face up to meet Vinyl's lips and she kissed her, then she fainted.
She was now connected... Two down three to go.
The spirit hovered over the Everfree forest to find her next target. It lost two fifths of it's powers, it couldn't see or hear in this form, but it had to keep in it or it wouldn't be able to find them. Using the third sense it had, it had to smell it's way to it's next target. An aroma presented itself in the air, and it led it straight to... A potion mixing zebra, exotic life from a far away land.
Perfect.
The spirit glided to the hut in the forest where it found it's next target, and waited for the perfect moment...
"A rule to remember when making this potion, is always to keep the fluids in motion." The zebra taught her apprentice.
"Other wise the mixture'll be all sticky right?"
"Indeed my little Applebloom, for if this was sticky, it will only be doom." The zebra warned her.
"Right, keep mixin' and stirrin', When to we add the other ingredients?"
"You will know when the time is right, because the mixture with shine a bright white." With that the potion started to glow.
"So now?" The little one questioned.
"The time has not come for the ingredients to stow, for the potion has not yet finished it's glow." The zebra could not finish her instruction before the little one poured the last ingredient in. The potion started to steam a sickly brownish green.
The perfect moment...
The zebra noticed the potion, her nose stared to twitch involuntarily and her snout ached. She hurriedly pushed Applebloom out of her door as she yelled a command, "This problem needs to be dealt! Hurry! Get somepony to help!" The little apprentice rushed out to the woods in the direction of help. The zebra sneezed, and her snout felt like it was on fire, her body shined brighter then the potion. "AHG! What ever in the world!?" She yelled as the shining crept up her body. She could smell death. A foul smell, not from the potion but from somewhere. Her mind ached as she felt like a connection was made with something. Then she fell to the floor of her hut, her nose ached, her mind ached... then nothing. The shining slid over her body and entered her head by her snout.
Then she fell unconscious.
She was connected... Three down two to go...
The spirit was making excellent time, for it to feel the last target it must first secure the first four. It glided over the Everfree forest where it's last victim lay. It was certain that it's next victim would be somewhere in the forest. It used it's fourth sense and tasted the air, the air will lead it to the next bearer.
It flew around until it noticed a cave, the taste was right. There was a creature there, perched on the edge of the cave mouth. It was just sitting there, looking into the sunset. The spirit was intrigued. It observed the creature. It was a she-griffin, ferocious life... wait... what's this? The griffin was... Crying? The sun set and the moon was risen. The griffin broke down entirely, the spirit could taste the sadness from where she was hovering, it needed to be dealt with...
Her mind was taking the roll of her father, YOU'RE A PATHETIC WASTE OF A GRIFFIN! AN EMBARRASSMENT TO OUR ENTIRE RACE!, she insulted herself. It was if she was watching herself cry, the pathetic waste of food that she was to her father. Not only did she not have her family... or her entire tribe, she had no friends either. It's been about a year since Dash left her... or more rather... She left Dash. She was worth nothing now, a useless waste of good animals. She didn't feel like hunting, she had no purpose now, she just wanted to die.
"Why art thou crying my child?" A voice came from above her. She looked up to the mysterious voice, it was that dark blue goddess pony with a flowing sparkling mane. The last thing she wanted was to spill her feelings to a pony of all things.
"Go away." She croaked to the approaching goddess, she then turned and started to enter the cave, "Why do you care?"
"I care for all my children." The pony said, "Especially those in need."
The griffin stopped, "Oh yeah?" she turned and faced the goddess, "Then where were you when everything went to shit, huh? Where were you when my life fell completely apart?..." The griffin started to approach the goddess, "...Where were you when the griffin tribes split up 5 centuries ago? 500 bloody years and you haven't done shit about it!" The griffin vented as she neared the princess, her eyes tearing up again, "Where were you when my father disowned me, HUH?! Where were you when I LOST EVERYTHING?!" She yelled at the top of her voice, her echos rebounded off the cave walls and the trees of the forest. She shut her eyes and stood still in front of the she-god, forcing the tears to stay inside her eyes. She wasn't going to cry in front of this pony.
"I was isolated from everything for a thousand years... Banished... Thou hast lost nothing compared to what I did... You still have the grass underneath thy talons, you still have all the creatures ye griffins call food surrounding thyself, even the air you breath. I had nothing for a thousand years. No creatures, no grass, no air, no water and no food, nothing. I went through the thousand years with hate and rage flooding my vision, every emotion I felt was regret and hate to the one who banished me." The she-god turned away from the griffin and acted a take-off, "Nothing that has happened to you could ever compare to that."
Gilda new what was happening, she let her anger and stubbornness take over her again, "Wait..." The goddess stopped and turned to face the griffin.
"Yes, my child?"
"I-I'm..." She paused and clenched her talon, WEAK! her 'fatherly' mind screeched at her, she shoved those thoughts to the back of her mind, "I'm sorry... I've had a terrible year, ever since I lost my best friend, my only friend, over some stupid actions on my part... My life has just crashed down." The griffin unclenched her claw and fell to the cave floor in defeat, the goddess knew what to do next. The goddess shone dark blue, her figure remolded into a figure like that of the crying griffin. She stopped shining and the first griffin looked up, "What? How did you-?" The griffin started to object before the former goddess interrupted.
"I created the lives around you, every single creature, I know their anatomy and figure... and with my magic I can transform into them. I just thought turning into one of your kind would make this less awkward." The now griffin approached the shattered life before her. She stepped into the moonlight and her figure was easily seen. She was much like a normal griffin but was much bigger, her feathers were groomed to perfection and the feathers around her eagle-like eyes were dark blue. Her wings looked much longer than that of the small griffin's father. The new griffin neared the small griffin with a motherly like gaze. The small griffin felt a lot more safe around this goddess' new form. The goddess sat next to the sad griffin, no words were spoken. The older one wrapped a wing and a claw round the smaller one and brought her closer. The smaller one dove her face into the taller ones chest. The taller one started to groom the small griffin using her beak. The goddess knew exactly where to pressure the griffin to calm her down, she made them after-all.
Before long the little griffin was calm, her stubborn pride completely washed away. She could feel a love that only her mother could ever give to her from this goddess. She was happy. Soon she fell into a deep and restful sleep; one she hasn't experienced in a long time.
Now is the perfect time...
Luna turned back into her original form of an alicorn. She bowed her head down to the sleeping griffin and her horn stated to glow. The griffin's body followed suit... The griffin started to shine, her cave lit up as her body did. The griffin herself couldn't feel much in the way of pain. She was both asleep and had the natural immunities that a griffin had. The shining flowed around her body, and entered her beak.
She was connected... Four down, one to go.
Luna made her way back to the castle.
"Has it been done?"
"We are finished, sister."
"Excellent, now we just have to wait for Twilight to get the last bearer."
"You can wait here sister, I have to get changed."
Soooo, how'd it go?
I'm sorry this took so long to come out, lots of expanding and retracting, editing, and time went into this. And plenty of technical failures to add to that. Yet this still feels incomplete...
No more ideas on what to put here though... I need a Coke.
EssMan out.
PS: Steven's scene is in the next chapter.
