Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Where
Previous ChapterChapter 1: Where
I woke up in a field. A vast field, nonetheless. I looked at the scenery, there were beautiful oak trees lining the light green grass, and mountains where far in the distance, making the scene even prettier. I sat up and looked around the field. It was a beautiful sight. But where was I? And what was I supposed to do for food? I got up, and looked at what I was wearing. A dark green shirt, and a pair of jeans. I also had a combat knife in a utility belt I wore, as well as a Beretta. 15 rounds per magazine, one magazine loaded in the gun, three magazines next to it on the belt. Sixty 9mm bullets. Finally, there was a small hatchet. It looked perfect for anything I might encounter, when all sixty bullets in the Beretta were gone. All of a sudden, there was some rustling in a nearby bush. I drew the Beretta and aimed it straight at the bush, waiting for whatever was there to come out, so I could shoot it.
"Come on, I don't wanna hurt ya." I lied. All my focus was on the bush, when what was behind it finally emerged. A bunny. A cute little bunny. I rolled my eyes. Jesus Christ, I thought.
"Angel, you get back here this instant!" I heard someone say from the some direction. I pointed my weapon back towards the bush, and out come a yellow Pegasus, with a pink mane.
"What in the world...?" for some reason, I couldn't find it in me to swear.
"Oh, hello there," the Pegasus said, looking up at me. "My name's Fluttershy, what's yours?" she asked, slowly walking towards me.
"Don't you dare!" I said, backing away.
"Don't be afraid. What's your name?" she asked again.
"My, freaking, name is James. Now what the, heck, are you?" I asked, still unable to swear.
"I'm a Pegasus," Boy, that was obvious. I was afraid of this thing, this "Fluttershy" Pegasus, mostly because she doesn't exist. But also because her eyes absolutely creeped me out. I pointed my gun straight at her head and pulled the trigger.

"Oh, no!" I said, meaning to say "Oh, crap!"

"What are you doing?" asked Fluttershy, coming closer.
"NOT ANOTHER STEP!" I yelled, stepping back and tripping over.
"Please, I just want to help." she tried to explain. I looked up in to the sky and saw another Pegasus fly overhead, and come in for a landing.
"Hey, Fluttershy. Who's this friend of yours?" it asked.
"Oh, h-his name is James. James, this is Rainbow Dash.." I looked at my gun trying to figure out what was wrong. The safety! It was flicked off! I turned the dial to the red dot and pointed it at the new Pegasus.

It was hopeless. This gun wasn't firing. I took out the hatchet and got up to my feet.
"Uh, what are you planning on doing with that?" asked the Rainbow Dash.
"I'm gonna give you three guesses!" Without hesitation, I lunged at the cyan Pegasus with the hatchet, and took a swipe for its neck. She jumped into the air and floated above me. I turned around and saw the other Pegasus doing the same.
"GOSH DANG IT!" I yelled. I grabbed the Beretta again. Of course! It wasn't loaded! I pulled back the slide, and I heard a mechanical click, letting me know a bullet has been loaded into the chamber. I aimed it up at the Pegasi.
"Take this, you non-existent creatures!" I yelled. But then, I stopped to think. Why did I want to kill them anyway? I pointed the gun away, and then threw it on the ground. I took out the combat knife, and threw it to the ground. And then the hatchet. These things were an intelligent species. How else was I supposed to show I wouldn't hurt them? I stepped away from the weapons.
"Come on, you two," I said to the Pegasi, floating ten feet above me. "I won't hurt you." They both looked at each other, and the cyan one came down.
"Good to see you've regained your sanity." Dash said. For some reason, I couldn't take offense to that.
"I'm sorry. It's just that you don't exist." I tried to explain, but failed badly.
"Um, if I'm standing here talking to you, I think I exist." the Pegasus replied. Fluttershy slowly came down and landed next to Rainbow Dash.
"So, are we friends?" I asked.
"Acquaintances," they said in unison, and flew off.
"Hey, wait!" I yelled at them, "What am I supposed to do for..." my words trailed off as I realized they were too far from me to hear what I was saying.
"Where the heck am I?" I asked myself, looking again at the beautiful scenery. I heard thunder crack in the distance. I looked and saw a thunderstorm over a surprisingly specific piece of land. I looked at some of the trees surrounding the field. One of them caught my eye, a tall tree, with many broad branches. Next to it was a rock. I could simply jump off the rock to the lowest of the branches, and climb it like a ladder. At the top, the tree was bent, and there was a branch sticking right from the curve. I could rest there while looking for civilization.
This could work, I thought, or fail. I climbed onto the rock, which seemed more like a boulder from up close, and jumped as hard as I could up to a branch. I grabbed hold of it tightly, and pulled myself up. Then, I reached for the next branch up, and stepped up. I did the same with the next. And the next. Just like a ladder.
When I got myself to the top, I sat on the branch and rested myself on the crooked part of the tree. This took more energy then I thought it would. I looked at the storm clouds in the distance, which were no longer throwing lightning strikes, and I saw it was pelting farmland! An apple orchard, to be exact. Though, there wasn't any apple orchards... Where was I before this? No matter. Whoever, or much rather, whatever was there, they obviously haven't seen me before. I needed a place to stay, though.
Suddenly, the top part of the tree snapped, taking the branch I was sitting on with it. I fell away from the timber and I was then falling to the field below. Actually, I wasn't falling toward a field, I was falling toward my death.
