Chapter Eight

Nopony came to us after Dash’s little visit, the night time run was good, going up and down the mainline did us plenty of good and we did pretty much nothing for the rest of the next of next morning. Soon midday came and went, the Apples nor Rainbow Dash returned so I steamed Thomas up and he happily puffed up and down the loading dock to keep himself entertained while I went through my bags of kits. Id sorted what I had in my living bag and food bag, by my guess I could last about a week on what I got, which was pretty damn good. Thomas however wasn’t fairing as well, we could go back up the line to the water tower and fill up whenever sure, but coal wise, we had problems. His bunker was almost empty, only about another ten shovels full of coal were left. Of course Thomas could run a few days on that since he was a Sodor engine, in case you didn’t know, Sodor engines can not only drive themselves but fire themselves too! They can burn emotions so to speak, so as Thomas has been pretty happy (he’s hardly not when im around) he’s hardly been using any coal, just burning happiness to keep the fire hot and the steam up, that’s the magic of Sodor! Celestia eat your heart out!

As I look over my bags I realised I hadn’t touched my guitar all the time I was here I pulled my heavy case onto its side, unzipped it and opened it up, revealing my jet black double neck SG guitar. I smiled as I pulled it out of its case to inspect it, still awesome! I looked it over for any damage and to my relief there was none, I strummed each string in turn playing a few notes, everything seemed to be in order. I heard familiar puffing and the squeal of brakes as Thomas pulled up alongside me after his tenth run up and down the loading dock.

“You haven’t touched that in a while” Thomas remarked letting off some steam, the engines version of a sigh “gonna give us a tune?” I could tell he wanted to hear me play; he always does whenever I get my guitar out. I hadn’t played in a while so I thought what the hell let’s do it! I turned my case round and unzipped the panel, revealing my portable amp id built into the back of the case long ago, for a battery powered amp it was bloody loud, which is a good thing! I dug the wires out of the case and plugged my guitar in flipping the master switch, I then proceeded to make sure the amp and guitar were tuned correctly, takes longer when you got two necks and twice the strings. After a few minutes of messing about I was ready to play.

“Any requests?” I asked as I cracked my fingers

“As long as it rocks I really don’t care!”  I grinned as I wacked up the volume on the amp and ripped into the intro of . “Ohh you legend!” Thomas laughed barley audible over the noise of my strumming. I got to the first verse, realising he was expecting me to sing too, I took a deep breath and let loose:

Deep down Louisiana close to New Orleans

Way back up in the woods among the evergreens

There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood

Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode

Who never ever learned to read or write so well

But he could play the guitar just like a ringing a bell

Go go

Go Johnny go

Go

Go Johnny go

Go

Go Johnny go

Go

Go Johnny go

Go

Johnny B. Goode

He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack

Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track

Oh, the engineerswould see him sitting in the shade

Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made

People passing by they would stop and say

Oh my that little country boy could play

Go go

Go Johnny go

Go

Go Johnny go

Go

Go Johnny go

Go

Go Johnny go

Go

Johnny B. Goode

His mother told him "Someday you will be a man,

And you will be the leader of a big old band.

Many people coming from miles around

To hear you play your music when the sun go down

Maybe someday your name will be in lights

Saying Johnny B. Goode tonight."

Go go

Go Johnny go

Go go go Johnny go

Go go go Johnny go

Go go go Johnny go

Go

Johnny B. Goode

I was left panting by the end, arms limp by my side, hair in a mess, but smiling. Thomas looked at me and beamed at me, whistling wildly as a form of applause, I waved him away, I was red in the face so my blush was unnoticed. I unplugged my guitar and swung it on to my back. The pain in various parts of my body were now making themselves known, I looked at my hands, most of my fingertips were cut and bleeding, drops of blood dripping onto the green grass. I let out a chuckle as I rolled my shoulders to try and relive some of the pain. “Where’s Fluttershy when you need her eh?” Thomas would of laugh im sure, if we hadn’t heard an ‘eep’ when I said the shy ponies’ name. Our eyes widened as I did a 180 on the spot and Thomas looked round me, behind me was AJ, Dash and Fluttershy, standing there open mouthed. (What is it with ponies and staring at me?!) “Well” I began, blinking madly “wasn’t expecting you three, how long have you been there?”
