Frozen Wings
Chapter 3
Previous Chapter Next Chapter"Come on, come on, come on, come on!" The little white maned filly squealed happily as she dragged her sister into the hall. Her elder sister attempting to calm the excited filly down as she closed the doors.
"Okay, shush." Snowea hushed, her plait swinging next to her shoulder.
"Do the magic! Do the magic!!" Glacier giggled, fluttering her tiny wings. Her sister laughed quietly as she sat down on the cloud floor. And began waving her hooves together, her sister watching in complete awe as snowflakes began to burst between her hooves, forming a snowball. The blue light twinkling as the snowball glimmered. They both grinned as Snowea threw the snowball into the air, and watched it burst into one giant flurry in the hall, the snowflakes glittered around, catching the light of the early morning sun. Glacier squealed as she span around, catching the snowflakes in her mouth.
"This is amazing!!" She yelled, jumping up and down.
"Watch this, Glacy." Snowea whispered to her sister standing up, and wearing a large grin. Glacier stared as the older pegasus stamped her hoof upon the floor, and watched as the the floor was covered in a bright, thin layer of ice. Glacier slipped over and giggled as she slipped around.

The rainbow maned mare smiled gently at the pleasant memory, her rose coloured eyes brimming with joy and happiness. But as she glanced at the mirror before her, that flicker of joy was gone. Now, a flame of fear and worry formed in her eyes.
The mare staring back at her shook with fear and concern, before fading to a completely different mare. She quietly sighed as she glanced upon herself. Her old self.
Gazing at the dark violet cape that was fastened around her neck, with a simple turquoise gem. The collars standing among her light cyan neck. The ice cyan wings tightly folded against the mare's side. The near white hair that was in a plain twist and bun updo. And finally, the light, bright sapphire blue eyes with the large curled eyelashes. Staring back at her. But instead of happiness and confidence they once contained, fear filled that empty space behind her blue eyes.
She turned away from the mirror, shaking her head, and trotted towards the window of the room she was in. Gazing at the happy ponies trotting to the large castle, laughing and chatting as they walked towards the grand castle, waiting for the gates to open. The summer sun beating down upon the cloud city, as it waited for it's ruler to come forth.
~~~
Glacier and Snowea pushed around a large snowball, creating a short snowpony. The hall was completely covered in a thick blanket of glistening snow. The room was freezing cold, but it didn't both the two fillies, especially the elder one.
The light cyan filly grabbed some sticks and used them as wings. Glacy sat in front of the figure of snow, a large smile beaming off of her face. Her older sister flapped the sticks up and down as if they were proper wings.
"Hi, I'm Morsom Wings and I like warm hugs." Snowea giggled in a goofy voice as her little sister jumped up, and hugged the snowpony.
"I love you, Morrie!" She squeaked as she giggled at her sister. The two loving siblings laughed together as they hugged the snowy figure.
~~~
Rainbow Dash turned away from the window and trotted to her table. A large portrait of a stallion above it. He wore an expression of pure confidence and dedication as he held the sceptre and orb of Cloudsdale.
"Don't let them in. Don't let them see. Be the good girl, you always have to be." She whispered to herself in hope to calm down. Rainbow took a deep breath as she slowly picked up a little, round, blue pot and a candlestick holder. She breathed out heavily as she turned around, facing the same way as her painted father. An overload of fear exploded in her mind.
"Conceal, don't feel. Put on a show." She croaked, standing confidently.
Until frost began to cover the candlestick and the ornament, completely covering in ice and frost.
"Make one wrong move and everyone will know." She told herself, begging herself to calm down as she threw the candlestick and the ornament back onto the table. Why was she so different? Why did she have to put up with this? To live in constant fear of hurting somepony close...again...
~~~
Glacier wildly squealed as she skidded around on the ice, holding onto Morsom. They slipped around as Snowea stood up on her back legs, using her front hooves to create an icy blast to push them around. The both of them laughing with joy as they played together. Their laughter proving their joy, and happiness.
~~~
A number of soft knocks on the door brought the pegasus mare out of her daydream. She shook her head as she remembered where she was.
"Yes?" She called out quietly.
"Your highness, you have guests. Including the new Princess." A pony replied from outside of the door. Rainbow sighed as she glanced back at the mirror, staring at herself again, but with utter disappointment. She pulled out her snowflake charm, staring at the small crack, her mind in utter worry and fear.
"Let them in." She ordered, tucking her charm away, hiding it in her collar. The door clicked as five mares slowly trotted in, the four other ponies gasped in shock, as the alicorn princess closed her eyes and stood up straight, not bothering to pay attention the pegasus.
"Your highness, I am Princess Twilight Spa- Rainbow Dash?!" The alicorn yelled as she opened her eyes. The others stared at the pegasus mare in the long purple cloak, who held her head low.
"You're the Princess, to be coronated as Queen?" Twilight coughed from the overload of information. All through the night, she puzzled over this new princess. And how she never even heard of it, or why her pegasus friends didn't even tell her. She stressed out so much last night, she fell asleep on the floor. Now, she was completely dumbstruck. Stuck for any words.
"Yes, I am the daughter of King Windy Skies and Queen Misty Breeze. I am forced to take my father's throne, as I have come of age and the king is no longer with us, I have to take his place...as a Queen..." Rainbow muttered. The mares still staring at her. In complete and utter confusion and shock. Especially Rarity.
"OoooOooo!! Princess party!!!" Pinkie squealed, breaking the silence. Rainbow stepped back, as her bouncy friend skipped around. "No! Wait! A Queen party!!"
As the excited pink pony skipped around the room, the others turned their attention back to Rainbow. Still waiting for an answer from her.
"Why did you never tell us? We're your friends, right?" Rarity asked.
"Of course, I just....I just couldn't tell you...I couldn't..." Rainbow fluttered her wings, and walked away. Her hyper friend jumping in front of her, making the pegasus gasp.
"Pinkie!"
"Dashie! Cheer up! You're going to be a Queen! That's totally awesome." She giggled.
"Well..." Rainbow trailed off, unable to say anything to her stuck friends. This was a large secret she had been keeping for all her life, and this was only the start of it.
"Rainbow, I-I can't believe you never told us. D-Didn't you trust us?" Twilight stuttered, so distraught over the fact that one of her closet friends never told her about any of this. She had so many questions to ask. She needed so many answers.
"Yeah, Dash. Why didn' ya tell us?" Applejack scowled. She seemed more angry than the others. But her mad expression softened as she saw the stammering, and sorry looking pegasus.
"Ah'm sorry, Dash.
She opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by a servant trotting in.
"Sorry to interrupt you, Princess...erm...Princesses," She bowed before the pegasus and the alicorn. Rainbow gulped, it had been a very long time since she was here. Since she left, and deserted her parents.
"Yes, what is it?" Rainbow Dash asked formerly. The girls were completely new to this new Rainbow Dash, this formal, and sophisticated Rainbow Dash.
"It's time soon, for your coronation. Princess Celestia and Luna have arrived, and are expecting you to open the gates." The servant explained, standing up from bowing.
"Yes...well, tell them that the ceremony will begin soon."
"Yes, your majesty." She smiled as she trotted out, closing the door.
Rainbow sighed to herself again, and turned to her friends. Who, despite the confusion, smiled to their friend. And hugged her for support. The cyan pegasus felt happy for a couple seconds, feeling her friends' embrace. But, it didn't stop her fears controlling her. Everyday she had to go through the fear of hurting somepony, friend or stranger. That brash and confident personality she sported through the years, was just an act. A shell for her real self to hide in as she cried.
"I've got to go, girls." She muttered.
"We know, we understand."
"You do?" The pegasus was confused herself. Everything was happening so quickly, so very quickly. One moment, she's a weather pony in Ponyville, the next, she's a princess again off to be coronated.
"Although everything is going really fast, and we still don't know many details, we are still your friends. And we will be there for you, no matter what." Rarity hushed, with sympathy in her eyes. She grew puzzled over the names in the books, but pushed it aside as her friend smiled at her.
"Thank you." Rainbow Dash gazed at the beaming grins on the mares' faces. Oh, how they shined with pure confidence, unlike their friend.
The rainbow maned mare trotting up to the door, opening the large white doors. As she opened them, she noticed two lines of pegasi servants. Standing proudly, and quietly.
"Tell the guards to open up...the gates." She ordered.
Outside, the enormous, cloud gates creaked open as the two stallions pulled them open. A rush of ponies crowed around as they began to enter the courtyard. Laughter and joy filled the courtyard as the ponies filled it.
As the girls exited the room, Rainbow slowly walked through the corridor, with the maids bowing. Her long, purple cloak dragging across the cloud floor. Her head held up high as she walked to the balcony doors.
"Don't let them in, don't let them see." She whispered to herself. A lump of pure fear at the bottom of her stomach. She placed her hooves on the handles of the balcony door, and took a deep breath as she opened the doors wide.
"Be the good mare, you always have to be."
The light beamed down, and shone brightly as the pegasus mare walked onto the balcony, that overlooked the courtyard . The pegasi in below, looked up to see their new leader.
"Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know." She gulped, gazing at the ponies below. Scared, worried and hoping everything will be okay. That it will go off without a hitch, and then she can close the gates again. After all, it's only for today.
