Mini: Representation

I sighed as I pulled my collared shirt on. I tucked it in and found my dress vest, donning it and straightening out my outfit. "Foxglove, this look okay?"

Foxglove peeked into my room, past the boxes of her things and right at my groin. "Ben...I love human's...you might be assholes...you might be evil soulless killing machines, you might be sexy amazing, lunatics and bitchy pussies, but you humans know how to dress." She walked in and walked around me. "You don't feel overdressed?"

"It's a meeting...it's kind of important." I fixed my cuffs and dusted off my pants. "I did get elected."

"I've been meaning to ask about that...how'd you get elected?"

I shrugged and let out a long yawn, my body not accustomed to the morning. "I'm representing Luna's human subjects. I got...like five votes out of ten."

"How? I never--"

"I have human friends!" I snapped, putting my socked foot on her backside and pushing her out of my way. "There are literally dozens of us, dozens! But only like ten voted...."

Foxglove hopped up my bed as she let out a long yawn. "So...how'd they- aaaueo- ahh." She let out a feminine squeak as her yawn forced itself out. "Geez...too early. Anyways...if they voted...why'd they vote for you?"

"Cause no one else wanted to." I got my good shoes on and made sure I was ready. "No one else wanted to wake up this early."

Foxglove was nodding off as I talked to her. "See, I'll believe that. Ten a.m. sucks...bad."

"Yeah...I know...coffee done?" I asked as I leaned into the doorway.

"Y-yeaaaaaaaah." Foxglove was struggling to stay awake.

I nodded, thanking her and checking on Wayne before I left. He was curled up in his new pen, splayed out on his stomach with his tail shooting out and covering the bottom of the crib in green hair. "Aw...I wish I could keep him- oh wait, I can!" I joked to myself as I plucked his limp body out of the pen and cradled him.

I carried him to my room, finding Foxglove knocked out and face first into a pillow. "Lightweights." I grumbled as I tucked my green baby under Foxglove's forelegs. She curled up around him, hugging him like a stuffed animal and cuddling against him. "Aww, that's nice...saccharine, but nice."

I tossed a blanket over them and tucked them in. I'd be joining them as soon as I was done representing all thirty of my people. I had a small civic duty to sit through a senate meeting, however terrible.

I tore through the streets of Canterlot, eager to sit down and get started. I was stopped at the front gate to the castle, quickly handing my paperwork over and getting sent through. I ran towards the castle, stepping inside and finding a bat pony standing in the entry.

"Benjamin...hello." A blue maned stallion with glasses stood proud before me. "Are you ready?"

"Boxwood...hey, which way?"

Boxwood led me through the empty halls and into yet another chamber. I plopped down in a chair surrounded by other diverse humans and waited until a grey maned pony walked into the center of the room.

"Hello everyone, thank you for coming for the inaugural Equestrian senate meeting!" The grey mare shouted as she threw her hooves out. The room burst into a short bout of clapping as the mare started sorting out a few pieces of paper. "Alright, I'm Ms. Mare, and let's get started."

A man stood up, his attire rather western. "Appleloosa joint species representative requesting the floor."

The mare nodded deeply, letting everyone see. The Appleloosan rep walked out of the bleachers we were stuck in and lopped over to the podium. He pulled a few papers from his case and donned a pair of smart looking glasses. "We of the township of Appleloosa hereby request government aid in the purchase of raw steel, smokeless powder, copper and brass, for the purpose of piping, replacing damaged rails, bullet manufacturing, agricultural equipment, and assorted building materials such as screws and nails."

The mare in charge took the podium. "All those in favor say, aye."

A resounding aye filled the room from the right side, ponies and humans alike agreeing.

"All opposed say, nay."

A few ponies and a man in a tie opposed.

"All abstaining?" I watched as a few people raised hoof and hand, I joined them and watched as the mare looked around. "Motion carries!" She smacked a gavel on her podium and took a deep breath. "This is so exciting...I can actually do stuff!"

The room bustled as the rep from Appleloosa rejoined the ranks. The mare collected herself and drew all our attention. A regal looking mare stood up. "Canterlot noble, Fleur De Lis requests the floor."

"Granted!" Fleur strolled calmly towards the podium, levitating out a single folded letter.

I took a deep breath as I waited for the mare to put forth her undoubtedly selfish proposal. "Ladies and Gentlecolts, I wish to draw your attention to the recent influx of human immigrants. My house, and our constituents wish to establish a boarding house for those unable to find housing, built in Canterlot to effectively stamp out Equestria's budding homeless issue. We propose a modest tax increase from our human citizens in exchange for eventual relocation and integration into the rapidly growing country of Equestria."

I snapped to attention as I realized exactly what her proposal meant. Equestria was suffering from a small homeless issue, and while many recent arrivals could count on the community, having an actual place to have them stay would be invaluable.

The grey mane took to the podium. "All in favor?"

Most of the ponies and a few of the humans, myself included, let out a resounding aye.

"All opposed?"

The western looking reps and a few humans let out a loud nay.

"All abstaining?"

Two ponies and a rather heavy women raised their hands.

"Motion carries!" Another smack from her gavel.

I settled in as the proposals went by, most of little importance compared to the first two. A few hours after the excruciatingly long meeting we were dismissed. I gave an exhausted kiss to Luna's flag as I left, stumbling home and crashing into the front door as night fell.

A bedraggled Foxglove and Wayne hurried over to me as my feet hung out the front door. "Ben, how was the meeting?"

I let out a long groan, made ten times louder as Wayne bit my neck. "Ow-ooooow! Foxglove make him stop!" I stared sadly at her as she walked over and pried my colt away.

"No, daddy no!"

"Shhh-shhh-shh, daddy's tired." Foxglove carried the fightly foal away, walking back without him as I tried to crawl into my house. "Ben...are you alright?"

"I feel like shit...."

Foxglove closed the door as I managed to pull my feet inside. "Well, I'm nice and rested...I bet I could make you feel better." She bit her lip, flashing her sharp fang over her grey lip and smiling sultrily. "Ben...Ben...are....okay?" I started to fade out as I passed out on my warm carpet. "Ben...oh come--" I passed out, completely exhausted from the long afternoon.
