Chapter 51: To Love Honor

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Dust sat quietly listening to her blues records in her old room in her parent's house. She wasn't normally a fan, but it made her feel a bit better hearing someone singing about their troubles. Her new born baby slept quietly in the guest room. It was the most sound proof room in the house. But not enough to where she wouldn't be able to hear it if it started crying. The record's last song played and she got up to change out the records.

She stopped when she heard a knock at the door. Her father answered the door and he sounded like he was about to start yelling. Dust Strom stood up and was about to make her way to the guest room to comfort her baby when he suddenly went quiet. She stopped at her door and waited. Then she heard hoof steps climbing the stairs and excitedly trotted down her hall.

She backed up as her mother opened the door. Her makeup was just starting to run from tears.

"Mom, what's wrong? Who was at the door?" Dust asked quietly.

"Y-You might want to come see this." She said holding back tears.

Dust looked at her mother suspiciously. But regardless, she let Daisy lead her down the hall and to foyer. Her dad stood at the door looking nervous. The light outside was bright as her mother lead her out into the beautiful summer day. When her eyes adjusted to the light she was completely confused at the scene unfolding on her front lawn. A large golden chariot sat with its back to the house. Her neighbors were starting to gather in front of the chariot in large rows. On the right, she could see Ephialtes and Hestaria along with three others in dress uniforms. Even Molly, Lea and Smoke n' Mirrors.

On the left, she could see her grandmother, her two aunts and uncles and some maids from the castle. Then she saw Lunar. He stood with nervous and flustered expression. He wore his dress uniform and his mane was even nicely groomed. His coat even looked like it was a bit lighter in color. She would have sicked her dad on him but then she noticed Celestia and Luna standing on the chariot.

"Lunar? What's going on?" Dust asked.

"I just have something I want to ask you." he said.

"Okay, what is it?" She said walking up to him.

"Just, come with me for one second." He said getting up onto the mostly open chariot.

Her dad came up behind her and held lead her up to the chariot. He helped her up and took a place on the left side.

"Okay, w-"

"Just hold on." Nexus said. He nodded to Celestia and she stood tall.

"Mares and Gentlecolts, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Dust Strom, and Lunarus Nexus."

Dust's eyes instantly went wide in surprise. Was he really doing this?

Was Nexus really doing this, in front of all these ponies? Especially seeing as they're one of the richest neighborhoods in Canterlot. His heart was racing standing in front of all of them as Celestia started the ceremony. She wore her mane down, not his favorite style but she still looked beautiful to him.

"Do you have anything to say to your bride?" Celestia asked him.

"Yes." Nexus shifted uneasily. He had all of an hour to write it down and memorize it. "Dust, I don't know if you see me in a better light, but no matter what, I'll always see you as the beautiful woman you are. I've put you through a lot Dust... What I did and what I didn't do have been bouncing around my mind for months on end. And what I didn't do was the one thing I needed to do. And you were right. Dust, I'm sorry." He took a deep breath. "I love you with all my heart and I'm willing to do anything to prove it."

"Do you have anything to say to your groom?" Luna asked.

Dust shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes.

"May we have the rings?" Celestia asked Luna.

Luna levitated a small pillow with a ring and a head chain with a diamond ring on the end of it. The chains themselves were encrusted with beautiful sapphires and diamonds that reached all the way around. Luna levitated the ring onto Nexus' horn and placed the head chain on Dust's head. Dust felt the tears about to start falling from her eyes and she could see Lunar's also starting to well up.

"Do you Lunarus Nexus, take Dust Storm to be your lawfully wedded wife?" Celestia asked them.

"I do." Nexus said.

"And Dust Storm, do you take Lunarus Nexus to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

She looked at Nexus and smiled.

'Please say I do. Please say I do.' Nexus thought to himself.

It was bad enough he was in front of all of these people. He really didn't want her to reject him now.

"You did all of this for me?" she asked him.

"I'd steal the sun from the sky for you Dust." Nexus replied.

"Ms. Storm?" Celestia asked.

"I do."

Nexus felt a big smile grow across his face and a few tears rolling down his cheeks. Dust started crying just the same.

"Then by the power vested in me, I pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride." Celestia said with a smile.

Nexus' heart was pounding harder now. He and Dust leaned towards one another. When their lips met, the crowd clapped in approval. But all of that faded into white noise as Dust wrapped her forelegs around his neck to deepen the kiss. Nexus could feel her warm tears on her cheek as they kissed. All the weight and worry of his life vanished along with what was left of his dark color. When they broke, they looked one another in the eyes with a smile.

"I have someone you should meet." Dust said with a big happy grin on her face.

Nexus let her take his hoof and lead him back to her parent's massive house. He'd been there once before. Most of the space in the two story house was dedicated to the study on the second floor and the master bedroom. They went in as everypony outside mingled. Celestia and Luna followed Nexus and Dust inside. She lead him up the stairs and past her bedroom. The room next to it was the guest room he stayed in when he first met her parents.

She shushed him and gently opened the door for him. The two walked in and Nexus quickly noticed white crib in the corner. Nexus quietly chuckled with glee when he saw the crib.

"Go ahead. Say hi." she said nudging him towards the crib.

Nexus slowly approached and peered over the edge of the crib. Inside, a little midnight blue pegasus lay with his hoof in his mouth. The little colt had a light gray mane with a single white streak on the right side. His little wings stuck out a few inches from his body. He squirmed a little and slowly opened his eyes. They shone a bright emerald green as he looked up at Nexus.

"Hey Bud." Nexus said with a shaky voice.

The foal smiled at Nexus and he intern giggled seeing his son smile at him. Dust came up behind him and leaned up against him. "You can pick him up if you want. Just be careful.

Nexus took great care reaching in to the crib. The little foal reached up to Nexus. Nexus couldn't stop smiling as he picked up his new son in his metal forelegs. The colt giggled as he reached for his father.

"Hey." Nexus said again cradling his son. "What's his name?"

"Astral, Astral Wind Nexus." Dust said putting her foreleg around his shoulders and leaning her head on his shoulder.

"Astral. Hey there. I'm your daddy." Astral giggled and kept reaching up to Nexus like he wanted a hug. Nexus pulled him closer and gently nuzzled him. "Who's a little laughing box? You are, yes you are."

"You're such a teddy bear." Dust said kissing Nexus' cheek.

Nexus kissed Astral's head and gave him a raspberry. The little colt squealed in delight as Nexus pulled away and let him settle into his father's gentle hold. "Is that a bad thing?" he chuckled nuzzling Dust. "I'm sorry I couldn't make it for the birth."

"It's okay. You're here now, that's all that matters to me." Dust said.

"You did a great job Dusty. He's perfect."

Nexus felt a presence behind him. He turned to see Luna and Celestia standing patiently at the door smiling. He motioned with his head for them to come in. Luna was first as she sat down next to Nexus and Dust.

"Hello there young one." Luna said getting close to Astral.

"You wanna hold him?" Nexus asked. He looked to Dust and she nodded in approval.

Nexus gently handed off his son to Luna. She held him close as he cooed.

"Hello little one. I am your Auntie Luna." Luna said tickling Astral's stomach.

"He's so cute." Celestia said leaning over her sister's shoulder and taking a turn tickling Astral's belly.

"He is. I'm proud of you Ms. Nexus. And you as well Lunarus." she said handing Astral back to him. "You have set the pieces of a terrific life. A loving wife and a handsome son."

"And the support of great friends." Celestia said as Ephialtes and company walked in.

"Oh my gosh!" Hestaria squealed. "He's so adorable!" She flew over to Nexus and sat down next to him. "What's this widdle guy's name?"

They spent the next half an hour introducing Astral to the members of his extended family, giving everypony a chance to hold him. Once he was fully introduced and back in Dust's forelegs, she turned to Nexus with Astral squirming in her forelegs for more attention.

"So, now that we have our baby back, should we head home?"

"You go home. I have someone I have to go speak to." Nexus replied.

"You're leaving? You said-"

"This is the only time I have to go see a friend. If I fly fast enough I can be back at dusk. I promise I'll come home before tomorrow. Honor's word." He said putting up one of his right hoof.

Dust sighed and look down at Astral. "Just come home as soon as you can."

"It's not dangerous. And like I said, I'll be home tonight. I promise." Nexus kissed Dust and rubbed noses with his little boy. "I love you two."

"We love you too Lunar."

Taking a few pats on the back, he walks out into the front lawn where Blaze was starting a barbeque. Nexus spreads his mechanized wings and launched from the mountain city.

Author's Notes:

Me: THE CUTESY... TOO... HIGH... NEED TESTOSTERONE!!!!! *Injects pure testosterone into my arm* YYEEEEEEEEEEAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Nexus: I need to take you to a doctor?
Me: *clears throat* No. I just needed to get some testosterone in me. I'm not a big fan of weddings and romance.
Nexus: But you're kind of okay with writing it anyways. So why do you hate it so much?
Me: It's just that I get enough cute stuff from MLP. Contrary to what you think, I like to feel like a dude once in a while.
Nexus: I get it. We're the same person remember?
Me: I know that. Honest, soft hearted.
Nexus: Brash, arrogant and self centered?
Me: I love how if we insult the other it's insulting ourselves at the same time.
Nexus: It annoys me. So how much longer until this is over?
Me: Not long. So hush your long face.
Nexus: That's right folks, he just went there.
