Chapter 1: Princess Sparkle's Coronation

Load Full Story Next Chapter

The sun was high above Canterlot as they awaited the arrival of its new princess, Princess Twilight Sparkle. The coronation ceremony was even larger than the royal wedding of Shining Armor and Cadence two years ago. In the chapel below, hundreds of ponies sat waiting for Princess Celestia to announce the start of the ceremony. Princess Luna stood by her sister’s side along with Princess Cadence and five other mares. Standing in the rafters of the chapel, Nexus looked down upon this with his sunglasses over his eyes.

“We are gathered here today in celebration of a momentous occasion.” Celestia’s regal voice rang out.

“Okay, ponies, we’re hot. This is November Leader, all call signs, wait for my call before check in.” Nexus said into his mouth piece.

Behind his blue reflective glasses, hundreds of green dots stood still below him with one blue in the center of it all. He looked up and saw five more blue dots fly past beyond the roof. Looking to the back of the chapel, several more moved slowly through the halls.

“Whisky Kilo, how we lookin’ at the entrance?” Nexus asked.

“Clear, nothing in sight but the Princess and her escorts. How copy?” White Knight answered.

“Good Copy Whisky Kilo. Echo lead, anything to report on ground?”

“Nothing so far. Everything’s quite. How copy?” Ephialtes said.

“Good copy Echo lead. Hotel lead, we still have air superiority?”

“Sky’s clear.” Hestaria said over a rush of wind. “We can’t even hear a parasprite up here. How copy?”

“Loud and clear. Stay frosty, we’re not out of the woods until this ceremony is over. Report if something goes wrong. November lead, out.” Nexus said looking back to the ceremony.

“May I present, for the very first time, Princess Twilight Sparkle!” Celestia announced proudly as the doors opened.

“Here we go.” Nexus mumbled to himself. “Delta Sierra, do you have eyes on?”

“Yes. I’m still not comfortable down here, Lunar.” Dust Storm said hidden in the crowd.

“I see ya, you’re doing fine. Just keep an eye open for anypony trying to make a move on the Princess.”

“Okay.” she replied nervously.

Nexus watched closely as Princess Sparkle made her way down the carpet to the platform as the escorts sang. He thankfully couldn’t hear them singing due to the ear buds. Once at the altar, her purple dragon, Spike was it, presented her with the crown. Celestia’s magic took hold and placed it atop the purple alicorn's head. She looked to her, (friends?), and they all waved happily to her.

“They’re about to move to the balcony, Hotel lead, be sure you have eyes on and stay out of sight.” Nexus said.

“Roger.” Hestaria called back.

As Twilight stepped onto the balcony, Nexus flew over to the rafter hanging over a window. He was in perfect position to see the Princess’ look upon the thousands of cheering ponies in the Canterlot gardens. Confetti and streamers blew in the wind as Princess Sparkle waved to with a nervous smile. He saw Celestia whisper something to Twilight and she began a speech, something else that was drown out through the ear bud. Half way through the speech, she motioned the five ponies that were standing at the altar with her out onto the balcony. She turned to them and continued to speak a moment before looking back out upon the crowd. They all turned back to the chapel and Nexus returned to the pole he had been upon earlier.

“Delta Sierra, you still have eyes on?” Nexus asked as they all passed under him.

“Yes, wait, who’s that?”

Nexus looked up to see a white unicorn in a dress uniform he hadn’t seen before running to Princess Sparkle. “That’s just General Armor going to his sister. Let him be.”

Nexus watched them exchange words before her friends hugged her together. Nexus rolled his eyes.

“Can we get on with the parade already? Half of me is stainless steel and I’m starting to rust up here.” Nexus mumbled.

“Calm down Captain, not like it’s a wedding.” Ephialtes said.

“Sergeant E, please avoid those snide comments for a bit.”

Thankfully for Nexus, the love fest didn’t last long, as Princess Sparkle trotted down to the main foyer to prepare for the parade.

“Echo lead, get your team on that route and Whisky Kilo, keep up with the Princess’ carriage.”

“Yes Captain.” White Knight replied.

“On the move November lead.” Ephialtes called out.

“Hotel lead, keep eyes on Canterlot, I’ll follow the parade.”

“Willco.”

Nexus spread his wings again and flew out the balcony after the parade.
