“The Turians have been busy, Sergeant." Cynder spoke into my COM.
“Yes, I can see that vary clearly Cynder.” I replied, “Do you think that is an AA gun on the top of that building?
“I do not know but I will see what I can find out.” She replied
As she ‘looked into it’ I was busy re-evaluating the
soon-to-be battle field. The aliens had really shored up there defenses, the commanding officer must be really smart. I could see multiple overlapping fields of fire, ambush points, clear lines of retreat, snipers on key points, heavy weapons on every corner, and lots of good supply lines.
These Turians must be vary virsed in war. “They do appear to know what their doing.” Cynder said.
A new list of orders appeared on my HUD, target important locations for position strikes from the frigate GRAFTON, eliminate surviving ranking personnel, and support the ground forces in their attack.
Simple enough I thought, I reviewed the target list Cynder had supplied. I began to laze the most important targets, AA positions, heavy vehicles like tanks, and a couple of surviving buildings I knew had snipers and AT teams.
After I completed painting the targets I transferred the targeting information to GRAFTONs’ gunnery teams.
“Targeting information loaded, Sergeant firing in ten seconds.” The stallion replied.
The gunner vanished from my HUD and ten seconds latter GRAFTON fired on the multiple targets I had painted with its cannons.
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, the three buildings with AA installations was wiped of the map, as these were falling down the GRAFTON switched its fire onto the sniper and AT teams in the smaller structures.
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, after this salvo the GRAFTON began destroying any heavy vehicles that I could see.
After a couple seconds of bombardment, of witch I enjoyed seeing the Turians running for cover, GRAFTON stopped firing and the fleet deployed its Sky crane drop ships full of troopers and vehicles.
While this was happening the Turians were doing what they could to establish fire lines and ambush points, much to my amassment they did not seem all that shaken from the orbital strike. Got to give it to the birds they don’t brake easy.
The troop ships began to land about five miles outside the city to avoid any AA we had missed and as not to take that much fire from the ground troops. After everyone had be unloaded my new orders were put onto my TAC-NET: I am to support ground teams in their attack, take out targets that the fire teams give me, and elimanate high value targets as they present themselves.
I switched my view towards the city and looked for my targets. I found a small group of Turians huddled around another of their kind and were pointing at a holo-map I let my crosshairs fall on the one giving orders and weighted.
A couple of seconds latter I herd what I was whetting for.
“All units’ weapons free, I repeat weapons free.”
I held my breath and fired, BOOM, the recoil bit into my shoulder as the round was sent flying down range. I whetted for the round to complete its flight, and when it did something unexpected happened, the round meet almost no resistance as it hammered thru the commanders shields and tore into the aliens midsection, it hit just left of the Turians chest and the almost all of the aliens top half was blown off and what was left was splattered on the ground behind it and it internal organs fell to the ground, the round continued its flight into the unfortunate alien that was looking over its shoulder and impacted its lower half right above its pelvis, needless to say the aliens' lower half was disconnected from its top half as it then fell to the ground in a puddle of its vaporized internal organs and a pool of its own blue blood.
Other then linger on that spot I began to screen for more targets as the solders began to reach the cities edge. Cynder took the liberty of highlighting targets, another commander was hiding behind a torn down wall, and I put my cross hairs on to the center of the blob of heat and fired.
The single heat source was turned into many and the hypervelocity round punched thru the foot thick wall and into the life form behind it. But alas I did not have the time to savor my kill as I herd a cry over my COMs.
“THIS IS ECHO WE NEED SNIPER SUPPORT RIGHT NOW!!”
I switched my view to echos’ location and was able to se the problem, the Turians had set up a heavy gun emplacement that was tarring into echo teams men. I centered my crosshairs onto the gun encampment and fired a round, BOOM, this round impacted the gunner in the neck at the force of the hypervelocity rounds’ air shredded the Turians head and shell-shocked the gunners and then the marines to toss in a frag and destroy the emplacement.
“Thanks for the support 03, moving up.” said the fire teams commander.
“Everyone gets one” I joked
That battle lines were slowly moving in our favor, these Turians may be good solders but we just have then beat in discipline and tactics, what I was seeing was they we trying to hold the line with high numbers of men alone, no that my work with what they have fought but it wont work with the UEG.
Their line of command was getting shorter and sorter by the minute, between me and the other hunter-killer teams their command chain was dieing off pretty fast. Our tactics were radically deferent, target the command and high value targets, and destroy any semblance of command; in short cut of the head of the snake and the body dies. Their discipline was getting worse and worse, fire lines were falling apart, gone were the clean and neat retreats laden with traps, now they were just trying to hold the line and stay hidden from the snipers that serounded the city.
“This is rescue one, remaining civilians are secured moving to extract”
The city was just about under our control the fire teams had delegated their tasks to now repurpose hunter-killer teams to scower the city for any remaining Turian forces to rote out any form of resistance.
Some new orders came up on my HUD: participate in POW processing.
10 minutes latter
I was now just about to reach the city center which had been repurposed from the camps to a POW camp to the time being. I walked up to the commanding officer and asked for and update.
He saluted me and said “Sir, these are all of the surviving Turian forces; the Princess will be on COM.”
“Vary well; let me take a look at them.” I said.
As I left the building I took in the image before me. The Turian POW’s were all in a line on the knees their were about twenty to thirty of them, they did not seem scared of the humans and ponies detaining them, one in fact was yelling in its native tongue at the mare looking him over for anything dangerous.
Any more curses died in its thought as it took notice of me, now I may be human but that’s about were the similarities end, the average human was about five to six feet tall and two hundred pounds. I on the other hand thanks to my augmentations and armor I stood a tall seven feet and am almost two tons in weight. The Turians stopped yelling and tried to back up and the others took notice of this and looked. Most just stared and their mouths hung open as I walked up to the mare.
She was looking at the POWs trying to see what had caused there sudden shut up. She herd thumping getting closer and turned around and smiled.
“Ah so the reports we true, ah knew yawl were big but this is plane redickuless, what do they feed you sergeant?” asked the mare.
“Just eat my veggies ma’am” my HUD tagged her as commander Applejack, “are these it?”
“Yep the ground pounders really tore them a new one didn’t they.” She chuckled.
“Yes we did ma’am, mind if I take a look?”
“That won’t be a problem as ah see it.”
I nodded and walked to one end of the line, the Turians had must not had a super solder program because they were visibly scared of me. I began walking down the line of POW’s looking for some one in particular. I had made it a point to kill any one of the Turians that I had seen killing civilians in the attack on the city and now I was checking for any that I had missed.
I saw something that made me see red, one of the Turians had taken a unicorn horn a make a necklace out of it. My hand jumped to the things neck and ripped it off the ground, the commander was about to stop me but when she looked at was on this monsters neck she let me continue and told the others to stand down.
I was now holding this thing around the neck a couple of feet off the ground looking at this thing with discusst. It was struggling ageist my grip but its struggles were useless, one of the other aliens jumped up surrounded by a blue field of energy, I saw this and tossed the Turian I was holding to the ground, my hand when to the Hammer on my leg and pulled it out of its holster, time slowed as I raised my gun, the Turian was now moving in slow motion as I lined up my shot, BAM, BAM, BAM, the rounds from my hammer slammed into the alien and a type of magic barrier stopped the first round but not the next two as they passed thru its chest and head. I then shot the Turian I had throne to the ground in the head.
I did all of this in less then a second, seeing just how fast this happened put down any growing resistance in the others.
“Who missed the fact that they can perform magic?” I asked out loud.
“Sir that was not magic, it resembled what there ships and vehicles put out.” A Tec told me.
“he was a biotic.” cynder told me,”he was a product of exposer to something they call element zero, not magic.”
“Hm something for OEI to look into.” I said
As the rest of the POW’s were shorted out I forwarded my report to the princesses.
Time for some downtime on the home world I thought as the POW’s were loaded onto transports.
