New Cupcakes

Chapter 1: Too Much Frosting

It was a bright, sunny day in Equestria. Celestia’s sun shone high in the sky, casting its golden rays upon the earth. Many ponies were out playing in the nice weather. Pegasi filled the air, hovering around clouds and adjusting them. The town square was bustling; stall owners had their goods laid out before them for eager ponies to partake in. Fillies raced around, throwing balls and chasing each other in harmless games of tag. SugarCube Corner was no different; clusters of equines milled around inside and outside, devouring treat after treat. This included even Equestria’s heroes.

“I made new cupcakes!” came the ecstatic, hyper voice from inside the kitchen. Immediately after, a pink pony bounced out, a tray of rainbow colored cupcakes balanced on her poofy mane. Pinkie Pie twirled around, landing on her back hooves, then springing to her front hooves. She did a final flip, landing on one knee, arms out at her sides. The tray of cupcakes was missing; that is, until the tray plopped onto her mane once again, the multicolored cupcakes following shortly after, arriving in perfect order. Pinkie’s bright blue eyes were closed in glee, a broad smile on her face. They blinked open shortly after, shining in delight at the group of ponies sitting around the pink table.

“Here you go, girls! I tried a new recipe with these! They’re sure to be super-duper-ultra-mazing!” Pinkie squealed, standing up. Her mane acted like a hand and scooped up the tray of cupcakes out of her hair. The dark pink strands dropped the platter into her outstretched hoof. Pinkie the used her other hoof to spin the tray around, sending the rainbow cupcakes whizzing expertly to each ponies’ place. The party pony stowed the silver tray back into her mane as it grabbed it once again.

“Go ahead! Take a bite! Tell me what you think!” Pinkie Pie cried, hopping up and down in excitement. She grinned widely, giggling. She waited in anticipation as the surrounding ponies glanced around at each other.

“They look delicious, Pinkie Pie. I’m sure they will be just as good as they look,” Twilight Sparkle told the party pony, a smile on her face. Her horn lit up with magenta and the delectable multicolored treat was lifted up to her mouth.

“These cupcakes do look quite magnificent, darling,” Rarity agreed. She too brought the treat up to her mouth.

“Finally! A cupcake to match my awesomeness!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed, flaring her wings. She bit greedily into the cupcake.

“Mm, delicious, Pinkie. You’ve really outdone yourself,” Fluttershy congratulated quietly after she had taken a bite.

“Mighty delectable, if Ah do say so myself,” Applejack agreed. Rainbow frosting coated the mouths of Pinkie’s friends. The party pony continued grinning wildly, her head slowly nodding.

“Um, yes?” Twilight asked, seeing the pony’s expression. She gave a nervous smile, head tilted upwards.

“Tell me what you think!” Pinkie Pie demanded happily. She fell onto her rump and tapped her front hooves together in anticipation, biting her lip lightly.

“They were amazing, Pinkie,” the unicorn sighed, closing her eyes momentarily.

“I agree. Spectacular,” Rarity said. She daintily dabbed at her mouth to rid her complexion of the creamy frosting. Pinkie sat in content for a few more moments before frowning. Her head slowly rose behind Rainbow Dash. The pegasus was sitting silently, hooves crossed on the table.

“Rainbow Dash!” the party pony shouted loudly into her friend’s ear, rising up at the same time.

“Gah!” Dash exclaimed, falling off to one side, wings splaying out. She leaned back over into her spot, scowling at the party pony. “What, Pinkie Pie?”

“What did you think?” Pinkie asked, eyes wide and quivering.

“It was good.”

“Good? Do you mean that? They were only good?” Pinkie made a puppy dog face.

“Uh, I don’t know.” Rainbow scooted back, uncomfortable, as Pinkie Pie leaned closer to her face.

“Tell me what you think! Is there anything I have to improve on?” Her eyes widened to nearly heart attack having cuteness.

“No, they were good,” Dash repeated, nearly falling off her seat.

“Tell me what I need to improve on! I’m begging you! Please, Dashie!” Pinkie fell onto her knees and held her front hooves above her bowed head.

“They were good, Pinkie Pie!”

“I only want you to be happy and proud of me!” the party pony cried. She latched onto Dash’s back hooves, hanging onto them. Cringing, Rainbow pulled them away and patted Pinkie’s fluffy mane lightly. “Tell me!” She forced her wide, owlish gaze onto the sparkling cerise ones.

“Alright, alright! The frosting!”

Pinkie fell back at once, frozen. Her sky blues eyes were wide with shock. “Wha-what?

“The frosting. There was a little bit too much frosting.”

Pinkie was then on her back legs, arms straight out at her sides, choppily moving back and forth. “Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh.” Her eyes slanted downwards dramatically, only small, darker blue pupils in them. Her mouth formed into a small little hole, barely existent.

“What? What’s wrong with you?”

“Eh, eh, eh, eh.” Now her lips were hanging limply; every time she took a breath they wavered.

“What? All I said was a little too much frosting!”

“Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh.” This continued for a few more moments. Dash threw her hooves in the air out of exasperation.

“What do you want, a sonic rainboom?” Rainbow Dash growled, eye twitching.

Pinkie Pie immediately stopped, a giant smile on her face. Her eyes brightened, sparkling, and she bounced up. “A sonic rainboom?!” she exclaimed in awe.

“Yeah, sure, whatever,” Dash muttered, shrugging. She rolled her eyes, slumping into her seat.

“Sonicrainboomsonicrainboomsonicrainboom!” Pinkie squealed, hopping madly around the room.

“Yeah, I’ll get on that,” Rainbow sighed. She halfheartedly flew out the window into the summer heat. The sun hit her like a blinding force, but she flew up, gaining speed. Going against the force of gravity was a little bit harder than going down, but hey; if she had to do a sonic rainboom for Pinkie Pie’s sake, then she might as well put on a performance for the whole town, right?

The pegasus got over her laziness and sped up, pushing herself. She squinted; it was almost as if she was flying directly into the sun itself! Tears formed at the corners of her cerise eyes, but Dash pulled forward. She felt the sonic cone form around her and she gave a final hard flap of her wings. The massive explosion broke though the sound barrier and the visible light spectrum, making the legendary sonic rainboom. Rainbow turned at a direct ninety degree angle and headed down at the sonic speeds. She held out her wings upon nearing the ground, slowing her descent. She saw her friends watching from outside; Pinkie Pie bouncing crazily up and down.

“Yay Dashie!” the party pony cheered, clapping her hooves together. Dash gracefully landed beside her friend with a dull thud. A tray filled with creamy red cupcakes was suddenly shoved into her face. “Care for another cupcake?”

Dash groaned.
