The gate
When one must save the world
It was turning night again. The winter days were always dark and depressing. You always wished for sunlight and a break from the icy cold grip of winter, but it never came. The spring wasnt much better. The cold was still around and your bones began to freeze and snap under the pressure of standing. Having to still go to work didnt make things much better. I got up every morning to the usual sound of the alarm clock, got dressed, ate and went out the door to work. Nowone ever noticed me at work. I had a few friends who were in the city but didnt work were i did. We had parties and film nights and acted like children. We had all got caught up in the 'My Little Pony' craze that passed by. It took a while before we actually realized we had watched 5 episodes and were able to tell each other it was good. I was brave and said out loud 'I LOVE PONIES'. That ended with everyones heavy secrets being lifted, and reliving the pain.
Something felt weird today though. I felt warmer and not as cold as usual. As i walked i saw something out of the corner of my eye. It was black, swirling around, like a black hole. As i watched it, it grew and grew until it was my height. I dont know what i saw inside but it looked green, peaceful and definately not Earth. It was too clean. Im still not sure what mad instinct made me do it but i put my foot in it. I felt like time slowed down until it felt frozen and that i was the only thing moving. Then it happened. Almost impossibly quick the hole got smaller and smaller until i barely fit through. I took my foot out and the hole slowly grew and grew again and time began to resume. I realized what i had to do. To save my friends, my country, no the world. I had to go through.
I jumped in and again time slowed down, but i didnt get to see wether it got smaller. All i know is that time slowed down and i was pulled in. I closed my eyes, scared of what i would see. When i was finally brave enough to open my eyes i saw nothing. It was all black with tiny stars. It was space, and i was in the middle of it. But i saw a light, a different light in front of me. Much like the portal i went in, except brighter and it pulled me out, not in. I suddenly felt dizzy, and felt light-headed. My body felt numb as i was thrown into a world of darkness and of hate. Or was it death? No, it felt warm and comforting. And i liked it.
When i opened my eyes again i saw blue. Blue with white sploges. I was looking at the sky on a beatiful summers day. Summer? That cant be right. It was winter when i left. I got up onto my feet and fell over, as if i had two left feet. Then i saw. Hooves, white hooves followed by white fur and a white and black mane. It flowed much like rainbow dashes with the same untideness, but with a hint of sharpness, and brash. I looked behind and saw a tail, much like rainbow dashes but again with a feeling of brashness and bravery. I also saw two white wings, folded neatly to my sides. I gave them a quick flap and flew.
"Hah! First time too!" I said. The feeling of flight was amazing.Then reality hit me. I was a pony. A PONY. I knew a normal person would scream and cry until he was hoarse (Bad pun) but i was no were near normal. I was still human though. Or i used to be. I realized that i might have a cutie mark and suddenly got excited at the consept of seeing my special skill. It was strange. A hand surrounding a planet that looked much like Earth. I didnt want to be cocky, but i knew it was true. My special talent was saving the world. Even though i had only done it once.
I thought to try to fly even faster and harder, knowing that this would be my one true chance to fly. Being human is great in its own aspects, but being a pegasus was even better. I flew as high up as my lungs would let me, and then flew straight down, spinning on the way. I knew i was nowere near fast enough to do a sonic rainboom, but atleast i could be fast. I saw a storm cloud directly ahead as i rushed through it, leaving nothing but steam in my wake. "Stormcloud. Thats a nice name. Thats not out of place and its awesome!"
The adreniline raced through me, making me feel high. When the ground started to appear i tucked my wings in, knowing this was dangerous and stupid. When i was a mere 10 feet from the ground, i stuck my wings out and flew on vertically, turning at a 90 degree angle. I finally stopped to an immediate halt and almost collapsed right there and then. Flying felt great, but i soon got tired, and as the moon came into the sky i fell asleep under a big green tree that i flew to.
As Princess Luna's night began to take me over, i felt at peace and calm. I wondered what would happen at home. Did i stop the portal? How would i get back? Was i stuck here? How will i fit in? As a thousand questions raced around my head i though out loud, "Tomorrow i will find a way back. I may feel better here, but its not my home and it never will be. Lets just make do with what we have." With that thought Sam fell into a deep sleep in a new world, alone in the dark.

Finding Ponyville
As the sun shone through the leaves of the tree, i opened my eyes and saw the most beautiful sight. The hills and natural beauty was much nicer then that of Earth. The sun had only just come up and i saw something in the distance. A large mountain, no a mountain range. I began to fly towards it at rocketing speed. I was still tired so my wings began to freeze up every now and then, leaving me to the hands of gravity. "I guess i should strech first" I said out loud, followed by a loud yawn. As i grew closer i began to see Canterlot, capital city of Equastria. The few episodes of my little pony had taught me something at least. As i got closer i felt something holding me down
"HALT!" A royal guard with white fur began.
"This is royal airspace! Where is your permit?"
I began to sweat. Permit? What permit? This was never in the show and i began to feel my wings fail me as i fell straight towards the ground. It took minutes to realise what had happened. The royal guard had grabbed me by the hoof using his magic to pull me. My back was starting to hurt as i realised we were going over a quarry.
"Do you really have to pull me over the quarry? My wings will lose feathers."
"Shouldnt have been flying near here then, mate". He said in an almost sarcastic, but harsh way. "Whats your name anyway?"
"Stormcloud"
"Howcome you havent been in any of those fancy races? Your definately good enough. It was tricky catching you with my magic."
"Im new here. I came from far away. Thats why i didnt know this law." I said. I hoped it was good enough, and i hoped they didnt have a spell to check if i was telling the truth. But he shone his horn at me and i felt like all my thoughts were being read at once.
"A human ah? Been a while since ine of you have been here. Last one almost killed someone. He wasnt careful with his unicorn powers. Like you could have killed someone if you had flown straight at the city. Still i understand you didnt know so you only get a minor punishment."
"Oh yeah? Whats that?"
"A meeting with the princess herself."This was amazing! All i had to do was explain what had happened and i could go home! I didnt see how this was a punishment in any way but i went along with it. As we talked on the way i found out his name was Star stopper and he had been a guard for 3 and a half years. As we talked time felt slower as every word processed in my brain one by one. Afterall a pony in armour was speaking to me about what he had for dinner last night.
When we reached the entrance to Canterlot tower i began to tremble. I was going tot meet the ruler of this land! How should i act? Should i bow? Say hi? I was confused. I looked up at the 50 sets of stairs as i let out a heavy groan. I couldnt fly up and leave Star Stopper alone. It would take him an age to get up and he would be bored without an exciting pony like me to talk to. It felt quick as we walked up. Too quick. We reached the entrance of Princess Celestia's chamber and Star stopper knocked."Who's there?"
"A human. By the name of Thunderstorm."
"Come in, and quickly."
As Star ushered me into the room the princess looked at me with a worried look on her face. I wondered what was wrong, but decided it would be best if i stayed silent. I heard the door slam and realised star was no longer with us.
"So your a human? And i guess you came here in a portal that would have devoured your planet?"
"Y..Ye...Yes your Maj..Esty" i said, realising how scared i was. The ruler of all of Equastria and the most powerful mare in this world was in front of me, with a scared look on her face.
"And you fell in? Or did you go in? Actually nevermind, I can tell by your cutie mark. You do know what a cutie mark is? And how this world works?"
"Yes your Maje..sty"
"Yes will do for now, Thunderstorm."
"Yes your Maj... I mean Yes."
"Good. Now tell me everything that has happened so far, and the day with the portal."
As i explained everything that happened, she seemed releived and better. I wasnt sure why, but i kept on explaining.
"So, is there a way for me to get home?"
"Yes, but you cannot leave yet. When the next portal arrives here to destroy this world, then you can leave by going through it."
I suddenly felt like my stomach dropped into my hooves and up again. I felt ill and dizzy as i heard this news. How long would this take? I just wanted to go home! I just hoped it wouldnt be too long. The princess noticed my face and realised i was upset.
"Dont worry Storm, you will return. If you do not go through that portal then this world and your world will be gone forever."
And with that news i said one thing.
"Take me to ponyville and let m..." I fainted from pure shock, leaving a Princess alone in a room, not sure what she was ment to do.
When i finally awoke i realised i was being carried by none other than star. He realised i was awake and shook me off and i fell to the floor. I realised this wasnt grass, but a gravel road leading possibly to ponyville. I saw that something fell infront of me.
"Princess said to leave you when you woke up. She gave you that. Also just follow this road to get to ponyville."
As i saw star teleport away, i began the long fly to ponyville. The bag in my mouth swaying back and forth, the contents making a rattling noise as money does in your pocket. I though it must have been money, but as i was unsure as to how much was what and how much i could buy with it i began to wonder. Then i saw Ponyville appear in the skyline. Even though it didnt have tall buildings, the ground was pretty flat from my side. I began to fly faster until i could make out the seperate buildings, then the colours, then finally the ponies. It was much bigger than i thought. I flew to the only place i knew were i could get a fair judge of how much money i had in my bag, so i flew towards were i thought sweet apple acres was. And bucking trees was a familier orange pony with a cowboy hat.
Fitting in
As i flew nearer to the acres i decided to try out a few tricks. I new that i would probably fail and maybe do some serious damage but due to the fact that i had been transformed into a pony, i thought i might as well try. I was right when i did one trick leaving me flying into a tree and knocking all of the apples off.
"Rainbow Dash? Is that you? I told you not to- oh sorry friend. I thought you were rainbow for a minute there."
"Its alright."
"So what brings ya'll over to sweet apple acres? Ya wanna buy some apples?"
"No thanks. I just need your help. You see, im new here as im human and i know that your the most honest pony around."
"Well sure partner! Whadya need?"
"How much is this worth? The princess gave it to me"
I handed Applejack the sack as she opened it with her mouth, spilling the contents on a nearby log.
"Boy howdy! Thats nearing 500,000 bits! You could buy yerself 5 mansions with that sorta money!
"Tell you what, i will buy myself a house and you can have 10,000 bits..I think that i should pay for that tree and for giving me the honest truth, which is worth over one million bits. "
"Ya have to be pulling ma leg!"
"No im saying the honest truth. You told me the truth like nopony else ever would. They would lie and say its worth nothing. They would take it off my hands and i wouldnt know any better."
"Well alright. I aint saying no to that offer!"
"Good because im not letting you anyway."
"Whats yer name anyhow?"
"Stormcloud"
I flew away from sweet apple acres hearing Applejack celebrate at gaining 10,000 bits in a very short space of time. I flew around town for a small time, looking for a place to buy a house. And sure enough i found one. It only had very cheap houses or very expensive houses. One house caught my eye. It was made from clouds, had a lake view and was an easy 5 minutes fly away from main ponyville. It was 120,000 bits. I went in and asked for the house and sure enough with in 10 minutes i had a house, and not such a bad one at that.
But as i flew around, hoping to see a bank, i was hit by something that was going at extremely fast speeds. So fast i didnt see it coming. I flew down to catch it, but it was too fast. As it was about to hit the ground it sprung to life and flew up to me, hitting me in the chest. It was rainbow dash.
"Be careful dude! I could have died and you would have just sat there looking.The number one flyer in Equastria, Rainbow Dash, could have died! Bucking hell!"
"Im sorry rai-"
"OH IM SO SORRY RAINBOW DASH! OH BOO HOO HOO! WHY DONT YOU CRY ALL THE WAY HOME! THEN MAYBE YOU CAN GO SHOP FOR SOME BUCKING SENSE!"
And with that she flew off, spinning and twisting, leaving her trademark rainbow trail behind her. As i still thought over what had just happened i flew to my house. I opened the door to see a pristine living room, a kitchen with state of the art equipment and a staircase. I had a tour around my house and found out that there was enough room for me and all of my friends back on Earth. It was nicer than my house on Earth by far!
I flew around for a while, stopped by Twilights library, Fluttershys cottage, Raritys shop for some clothes, Pinkie pie for some food (However i managed to get pulled into a party) and Applejack for apples. I did give her the 10,000 at that time too. Twilight was the most interesting stop. She began questioning me about Earth, politics, Science and sex. I almost got pulled into having sex with her. Luckily spike came in and the conversation quickly changed. Spike mas much older than in the TV show. He walked on 4 legs and had wings. He was just taller than me by about two feet. Twilight asked if i could come over every now and then so she could conduct research. I obliged of course. The stop at fluttershy was to check she was okay and to see if there were any pets i wanted. Unfortunately she didnt have a yellow striped bat. The stop at Rarity's ment i could buy some clothes for Pinkie's partie, even though i new it wouldnt be needed.
Finally i returned home and settled in. As i sat down, i saw a certain pink pony float up in a balloon next my front door. I new what this ment and i was excited. I was excited to have a party. To have a life of love and happiness, not war and hate. This was better than Earth.
When we reached Sugercube corner i saw a huge cake with the words 'Welcome ThunderStorm!' written in icing and a giant picture of my cutie mark made from frosting.
"How long id this take Pinkie?"
"Does it matter? The writer can make the world explode if he wants!"
Pinkie... Remember what i said earlier about the fourth wall?
"Oh yeah!! Oopsie!"
"So anyway pinkie... Is rainbow dash here? I feel really sorry about what happened."
"Why what-" Pinkie was interupted when the cyan pegasus ran up to me and hit me, making me fall into the cake and destroy all of the hard work.
"Serves you right you filthy beast!"
"Dashie! That was sooooo mean!"
"Shut it, Pinkie" Dash said with an unintentional harshness. Pinkie began to cry, but only to herself. Rainbow dash looked around and saw everyone looking at her. She flew off feeling shame, embarressment but also happiness to have punched me.
'Serves him right that bucking idiot' Dash thought.
After that the party was pretty fun. It only took me to say "Pinkie, shall we restart the Party?" for pinkie to jump up and resume her usual bouncy attitude. As the night went on i felt like my life was feeling so amazing and that i never wanted to leave. I laughed when i thought that i wanted to go straight away and never come back. How times change. As the party ended i had managed to befriend almost every pony in ponyville except for Rainbow Dash. As i flew on home i thought i could see a rainbow fly straight past me, at rocketing speeds. I opened my door and went to sleep. In a new bed, in a new town, in a new world. But this world was better than Earth
