Sun & Moon VS Chaos Incarnate: A Deeper Look Into the Past

Chapter 1: Order & Scramble

Order & Scramble

Coating all of the sky's view, a swarm of pink clouds float around in very unnatural patterns, causing a downpour of chocolate rain onto the world below. As they rapidly descend, they reveal a wasteland of something resembling an acid trip. A land saturated by relentless chaos and mayhem, spreading for miles in every direction. Those few ponies who are out in the open are running for their lives from pursuing entities and objects stricken by the powerful magic toxifying the air.

Amidst the sounds of ponies yelling and the wet pattering sound of chocolate milk coating the checkerboard-patterned ground, a deep, jolly yet cruel laugh echoes throughout the area. In the distance is the silhouette of a twisted creature, floating in mid-air and coiling like a serpent.

'I only want to party~' the creature spoke innocently, voice aged and full of dangerous and deceitful undertones. As he hummed a merry tune to himself and floated around, he rose one claw, the claw of an eagle, and as if he was the maestro of a warped symphony, the land obeyed his commands. Large sections of ground split open and rose from the earth, becoming suspended in mid-air as if they gained their own center of gravity. Homes shape-shifted into large gingerbread houses in a matter of seconds, and entire mountains morphed into piles of ice cream scoops the size of towns.

Seemingly oblivious to the sounds of horrified screams and gasps from all around him, the bearded serpentine creature chortled to himself; the sight of a mountain that became ice cream apparently being too much for him. He broke out in a fit of selfish laughs, buckling over and putting his claws to his knees, small wings flapping pointlessly.

'Oh, I kill myself.' he chuckled, stretching out and cracking his talons, before snapping a finger on his lion-pawed claw. A couple hundred yards behind him, the ground began to absurdly bulge upwards, into a ridiculously steep hill. At the top, a tall, rather evil looking chair popped into being at the hill's crest. It was here that the creature retired to, slouching back and looking over what had been done so far.

'The more expansive the canvas, the higher the urge for constant redecorating.' He mused, relaxing with a sigh. 'I wonder what tomorrow will be. Oh, I know! I don't believe we've had an ocean of stuffed animals before-'

'Discord!'

The air fell silent apart from the pattering chocolate. The yellow, red-beaded eyes of the chaotic entity opened lazily, and, curiosity peaking his eyebrow, he turned about in his newly crafted throne.

Approaching him from a few hundred yards from his vantage point, were a pair of brightly colored equines. The first was a tall, elegant beauty, a mane matching the colored pattern of the northern lights. She glared at him with magenta eyes, shimmering with pure hate. The second was a shorter, dark blue colored mare, her mane a gateway to the nighttime sky. The two walked in perfect synch, their eyes never leaving the creature for one second.

'Why, hello ladies!' Discord greeted, standing from his throne and giving a courteous bow. 'What pretty smoke hair you have. I don't believe we've had the pleasure. I am-'

Discord stopped mid-sentence, as a brightly colored beam of blue energy raced towards him, emitting a low buzzing sound. It grazed his ear, leaving a small singe, to which his eyebrow responded by rising even further. Clear off of his head.

'We know who you are, chimera.' the nightly mare said in a deathly serious tone. 'We have come to dethrone thou, and save the fair ponies of this land from your cruel reign.'

'Oh, reeeeeally now? Oh, now you've got me all giddy. I don't think I've heard this story, before. Do tell. This Discord fellow sounds like an absolute nut case.' he responded, completely nonchalant and detached from the seriousness and hate that the two ponies were displaying towards him. He slithered back down into his throne, slumping down and staring at the two from beyond his lengthy stomach with curious eyes.

'Luna.' the taller mare said, turning to the younger and giving her a slightly reproachful look.

'But sister, there are no need for words. He will not listen. You have seen it yourself, he is as selfish and stubborn as a bratty foal.'

'Luna, you musn't let recklessness lead your situations. We will progress as we need to, but only after demonstrating to him where we stand.'

Though Luna gave the back of her sister's head a disapproving and unsure look, the white alicorn spread her majestic wings and approached the strongest creature that the land had ever seen with her head held high.

'Discord, the citizens of this land cannot stand your games. You toy with pony's livelihood's and the very world they live in for your own amusement, without giving any consideration to the hardships they face day to day, even without your presence. My sister and I will not tolerate it. It has become clear that you are incapable of ruling as anything more than a tyrant, and we demand that you leave this land, and release your grip over its' inhabitants.'

Celestia blinked upon finishing, and Discord's throne had suddenly become a podium, with a large wooden sign displaying 'The accused' upon it.

'I plead innocent, your honor.' he said, looking beyond the two alicorns to a duplicate of himself, who had spawned in a large chair and in a long gown, signifying him as the judge. 'You see, the inhabitants of this land have gotten stuck in a very dull, very boring loop of hardships after hardship. Every day, day in and day out, they toil and work the day away. They don't know the meaning of the word fun!'

'I haven't the patience for your games either, Discord!' the white alicorn snapped, her normally soothing voice terrifyingly toxic. Luna looked on and remained silent, as Discord returned to his once again throne with a roll of his eyes.

'It would appear you two are cut from that same cloth. Tell me, Little Miss Spectrum Hair, is it so wrong to bring a little fun to the lives of those who are seemingly incapable of providing it for themselves?'

'It is not your job nor your place to make a life-changing decision for an entire species.' Celestia responded coldly.

'But I'm the entity of chaos, itself! Chaos, as you know my dear, is just as much a part of nature as...ughhh...harmony, order and predictability.' he explained, gagging near the end of his sentence. 'If chaos incarnate isn't expected to bring fun and goofiness to those who lack it, then what kind of bizarre universe are we living in, Celestia?'

'Chaos may be a part of nature, but the ghastly, nightmarish, childish things you do are anything but natural, Discord.' Celestia jabbed back, gesturing back to her sister with her head. The blue mare silently joined the elder sister at her side.

'You are a bully and a puppeteer, using the lives of those around you as mere playthings, and my sister and I shall not abide by it.' Luna continued. The two majestic alicorns spread their feathery wings, signaling their offensive stances, and not budging from the checkerboard ground from which they stood. Their piercing gazes met Discord's amused expression with little impact.

'Has anyone ever told you two that you have a habit of repeating yourselves? I don't like it when my records break, why must you two taunt me so?' Discord mused, standing from his throne, holding out his claws, and manifesting a pair of boxing gloves over each of them. He hopped one from foot to the other, a devious little smirk about his face.

'But, very well then. If the fun police have arrived to take me away, as I knew they would some day, then I suppose I've no choice but to defend myself. En guard, mes chers!'

Without wasting another moment, Luna's inner-fighting spirit overwhelmed her, and before her sister had a chance to even respond or make a movement, the cosmos mare sent a vertical shower of lazer blasts for the chaotic chimera.

Discord's eyes glistened, and with a mere snap of a finger, the earth in front of him sprouted upwards, acting as a shield. Moments later, he slithered around from the back of the rock, and soared upwards into the sky. The two sisters followed him with their gazes, and took off into the open sky as well, pursuing the god-like creature with no reservations or hesitation.

'Here,' the Draconequus began, fluttering there in an upright position and watching the two shoot towards him, horns glistening. 'I'll give the ponies something to snack on. You did mention how much I ignore their needs, after all! Perhaps you two will have a taste for it, as well!'

Discord snapped his eagle claw, and within seconds, an absolutely massive overcast of pink clouds blotted out the sky above the fight. As a single preemptive drop of chocolate came down to tap Celestia on the head, she gasped and halted in place.

'Luna! Barrier!'

'Yes!'

The alicorns joined their horns at the tip, allowing themselves to form a thick, purple bubble around their bodies. Only just in time to protect themselves from an enormous pillar of pure chocolate milk that slammed downwards from the sky at an alarming speed. The pillar hit the checkerboard earth with a resounding smash, and began to flow outwards in all directions, waves overtaking trees and smaller objects as they went. Within moments, the entire area around Discord's throne was flooded.

The princess's orb of power stretched outwards, pushing aside the large tower of liquid, so the damage could be surveyed. Bewildered at the extent of the surging wave, Celestia shot her gaze back upwards.

'Life cannot be something you care nothing for!' she yelled. 'What if anyone were to drown!?'

'Well, I'd go out on a limb and say it'd be their fault they didn't have anti-chocolate umbrellas with them.' Discord replied simply, an inverse pink umbrella popping into his outstretched paw with a small 'meow'.

'Sister, the time for words is over. If we are to free this land, we will do it with our actions. Let us banish this demon to the pits of Tartarus, and be done with him.' Luna muttered lowly, seeing her sister continue to get worked up over the creature's antics and complete and utter apathy. She soared outwards from the bubble rather suddenly, and darted at Discord from the lower side.

With a flurry of darts and mid-air twists, Luna flanked the creature from below, approaching him so quickly that by the time Discord looked downwards again, she was right on top of him.

'Leave this land, Discord! We demand it!' Luna bellowed, eyes shimmering in a bright white light, her voice commanding and creating a vast echo. A beam of light soared for Discord, only for him to playfully twist himself into a spring-like tunnel for it to pass through.

'Oh, Lulu, temper temper. You don't want big sister to scold you again~' Discord hissed, a deeper, more sinister voice becoming him now that the action and adrenaline of the situation had finally unfolded. A moment later, the Draconequus widened his eyes as another beam of light nailed him at the nape of his grey-furred neck, and knocked him downwards a fair dozen yards.

'Big sister,' Celestia mimicked, her own eyes a complete white light now as well. 'Recognizes that every emotion has a purpose and a place. Anger is no exception.'

Discord recovered quickly, shaking his head like a wet dog and scratching at the back of his neck as he floated upright. The two princesses rejoined at each others' sides as a perfect tag team above him, and he looked on with a smirk and a giggle.

'Oooh, that tickled, Celestia.' he waved off. 'But if you want to get personal, that's certainly not the way to go about doing it~'

With a burst of light, the serpentine king teleported back down to the ground, sitting in his throne once more. Chin in lion paw, his ancient eyes observed Celestia and Luna while they landed on an island of rock amidst the sea of chocolate milk, never once taking their own old and experienced eyes off of him.

'Ladies, please, must we really go through this song and dance?' he asked. 'You can't beat me with pony horn flares and fancy wing-work.'

The two alicorns looked at one another. With no hesitation, a blast of blue and white energy speared itself at Discord in a unison of magic. But the lethal column of energy was met with a sudden halt, as Discord lazily stretched out his eagle claw in front of it. The awe-inspiring energy, as powerful as it was, struggled against an invisible wall a few inches in front of Discord's claw, gaining no ground in the process.

'Nnnghh! He...won't...budge!' Luna growled through a strained grunt, her hooves pushing against the ground in an effort to lean forward and push through. Celestia struggled to do the same, her horn and Luna's obscured by a bright light of magic, but clearly losing their power the longer they struggled.

I'm the entity of chaos, itself! Chaos, as you know my dear, is just as much a part of nature as...ughhh...harmony, order and predictability.

Celestia heard the Draconequus's words float around in her headache-pounded brain, as she continued to work with her sister to push through the force field that the creature had created. But the longer she tried, and the more she thought, the more she knew how futile their efforts were.

'Luna...we have to retreat, if only for now.' she breathed through her effort, her voice barely audible over the continuous sound of their magic punching against Discord's.

'What!? My sister, you cannot be serious! We are so close! I can feel it!' Luna reacted, turning ever so slightly to gaze at her sister with completely bewildered (albeit strained) eyes, as her horn continued to fire off magic.

'No, Luna.' Celestia all but whispered. 'The key to defeating chaos is through order, not force. Think of what Discord said. Harmony, order and predictability exists just as much as he does. Harmony, Luna.'

Luna looked rather confused for a few seconds, but after the meaning of her sisters' words reached her, she opened her mouth slightly in realization, teeth gritting in her struggle.

'If we are to free this land from chaos, we cannot do it alone.' Celestia continued, backing away from her tensed up stance, and slowly beginning to flap her mighty wings once more, preparing to make a daring attempt to fly whilst still holding up their barrage, if only for a short while longer. 'We're going to need something that can take the chaos that Discord makes reality, and turn the tables on him.'

'The tree...' Luna whispered.

'It may hold the only means by which we can save the land.'

'Bravo, bravo, ladies! I must say, this is a truly inspiring effort.' Discord cheered from his throne, one claw holding off the barrage of intense magic whilst his other played paddle ball. 'But how long can it go, hmm? What comes of the two peace-chasing ponies who couldn't stop chaos's fun? What becomes of-'

Mid-taunt, Discord blinked in surprise as the barrage of magic against him was suddenly stopped, and the two princesses were revealed to have already ascended high into the sky, half a mile above Discord's throne. There, they floated for the briefest of moments, while Discord stayed put, curious as to what they'd try, now.

'Now, Luna.'

Luna rose her head, her horn glowed, and from it, a massive, darkened mist of smoke reminiscent of her mane's deepest colors flooded the area. Discord blinked a few more times, as the mist spread so far that it covered the entire visible sky, even blocking out his pink clouds for the moment.

'Oh goodie, are we playing 'Hide and Seek: Inside Luna's Mane Edition'?' Discord asked almost excitedly, teleporting back into the sky, and zipping into the center of the smoke. As he searched through, the obvious alternative to what this big, black cloud of smoke was, dawned on him. When it began to clear, Discord was floating in mid-air, arms crossed pouting in angst, obviously completely alone in the entire area. He realized only now, that he had in fact been duped.

'Oh, horse-feathers.' he muttered. With a snap of his fingers, the remainder of the smoke, his monstrous pink cloud, and the ocean of chocolate below him vanished in a pop. He returned to his throne, began to stroke his beard, and stared at the horizon with curious fascination.

'Oh, Tia, I wonder what you two could possibly be up to.'
