Princess Luna was sure she could live up to her royal title again, but instead she finds it too wearisome to adjust. Celestia, thinking that Luna doesn't fully appreciate why she has to go through so much paperwork these days, decides to help her unwind by letting her have a vacation for a year. During this time, Luna will live among her subjects and come to understand the ramifications of her seemingly tedious decisions. At least, that's the plan.

At the Donkey household, Cranky and Matilda have worked out a routine for day-to-day living. Cranky, however, remembers a time when he was on the move and doing all sorts of jobs, and he wants to bring in an income like his wife. At Matilda's recommendation, he applies for a job at Sweet Apple Acres - ferrying cartloads of apples to different clients across Ponyville, including Sugar Cube Corner, Bonbon's Goody Goodies, and the Pony Spa (for the new and improved Apple Aroma therapy). For once in his long and difficult life, things seem to be working out.

Two different stories, one Princess, and one donkey. What could possibly go wrong?
