Loyalty To Love
Chapter 8: Chapter 8- The In- Laws
Previous Chapter Next ChapterThe cell began to smell of fresh blood. The hint of metal lingering in the warm air. It was living torture, sitting in the cell. Waiting for your fate. Listening to the murmurs of the other prisoners, and the screams as they taken away for a darker fate. The sun shimmered through the barred windows, making the air in the prison hot and still.
The pegasus felt his eyelids drop as the mare beside him slept. The alicorn mare twitched and moaned in her sleep, her wound still draining her of her energy. The stallion folded his large blue wings, moving the chain around his leg. His mind was solely on the mare he loved, the mare he left behind.
His mind wandered through the pleasant memories that he spent with the mare of his dreams.
He remembered holding her close, the night before the wedding. They didn't want to spend the night out with their friends, drinking. They wanted to spend the whole night in each others', they couldn't bear to be away from each other for longer than a night. Soarin's favourite part of that night was when Rainbow fell asleep on him.
She was leaning on his body, with her head on his chest and her wings wide open. He loved stroking her rainbow mane as she slumbered. He felt so content as he knew his family was almost complete. A good job, great friends, a beautiful soon-to-be wife, and a little bundle of joy on the way.
Soarin sighed happily to himself as he finally fell asleep, forgetting his surroundings and his troubles.
~~~~~~
He sat quietly upon a small, fluffy, white cloud, with a cyan mare right beside him. He smiled as he hugged the mare, keeping her close to him.
Suddenly, she disappeared, fading into the darkness. The once light blue sky switched off like a light switch. He manically searched for his loving mare, until the cloud also disappeared. Soarin madly flapped his wings as fell towards the ground, but was unable to gain any flight. He closed his eyes tight as he prepared himself for the impact of the hard ground.
Nothing. No smash, no splat, no bash, no surge of pain. Soarin cracked one eye open and gasped loudly as he was literally a few centimetres off the ground.
But he didn't understand. His large, ice blue wings were tightly closed. How was he hovering?
He carefully glanced upwards, to see a shadowed figure in a black cloak, holding him by the tail. Soarin squinted as he vaguely remembered the pony.
"Err....thank you..." Soarin muttered, as the pony put him down and landed beside him. "Erm, who are you?"
Another pony trotted up, also in a cloak, next to the pegasus who saved him.
"We are your soon to be in-laws." A mare hushed, her voice sweet and soft. Slowly, the two ponies pulled down their hoods and smiled at the younger stallion.
Soarin's eyes widened as he remembered the two.
"Wait....in Rainbow's old house....the portrait...Wait! You're Dashie's parents!" He squeaked, making the mare giggle. Her sunset coloured her bounced.
"Of course we are. I am Sunset Breeze, and this is my husband, Lightning Blitz." She pointed a white hoof to the tall musk blue stallion.
"Why are you here? What's going on?" Soarin questioned.
"Soarin, we are here for you. After all, you have saved our little baby girl." The elder stallion said gruffly. "She's been through hell and back."
"More like dragged." Soarin corrected.
"Yes, well, she's suffered our deaths, mental torture, the betrayal of her brother, death of first special somepony, her own near deaths, physical torture, and the near death of you." Lightning continued.
"Don't forget the pain she's feeling right now. The pain of losing a lost one. What hurts her more is the fact that you left without warning."
"Yeah, but I couldn't help that." Soarin sighed. "I miss her. I just can't imagine what she's feeling right now."
"We know. You're a brilliant stallion, Soarin. You are the perfect pony to look after our little Dashie. You care for her so deeply, that your love for her is...is just...amazing." Sunset hugged the younger pegasus, making him gasp for air.
"Thank you, Miss Breeze. I love Rainbow Dash with all my heart. I can't live without her. She's just....everything, she's my everything." Soarin sighed. "She's perfect. All my friends, especially Silver Lining, keep going on about their type of mare. At how they wanted a mare with looks, that can cook, and everything else."
"I guess your type is somepony pretty and can fly."
"Ah-ha. Actually, I don't have a type. If she has personality and speak her mind, I don't care. And bloody hell, Rainbow has one heck of a personality. And I love it."
"Yes, well, Soarin. The reason why we are here, is because....our little sweetheart has snapped." Sunset muttered, the images of her daughter dancing around her mind.
"What do you mean?" Soarin questioned.
"We mean, the Dashie you proposed to...is...well, gone. Every about her that you love, gone."
"That amazing personality, the caring heart only for close ones, that cute and innocent smile, and the confident, burning fire of passion in her eyes. All drained away like water." Lightning proceeded to explain.
"What? How?" Soarin was fully concerned about his lover.
"She believes that you have run off, with another mare. She believes you've run off with the princess."
Soarin gasped loudly and began to madly shake his head.
"No! I wouldn't! I love Rainbow! I would never leave her for anypony else."
"We know. But Rainbow has let her emotions get the best of her, and has expected the worst."
"What do I do?" Soarin slouched to the floor, with his head in his hooves.
The two elder ponies walked over and sat beside the young Wonderbolt.
"Believe in her. If you believe in her, she will find you. She still loves you." Sunset placed a white hoof on the distraught stallion's shoulder. "You two are connected. Two hearts merged into one. So, don't give up hope. Keep loving her and she will find you. You'll be amazed at what our little girl can do."
Soarin smiled as the two pegasi began to fade.
"Find her heart again, Soarin. Keep hold of it, and cherish her. And don't forget to raise up some brilliant foals. We want grandkids." The pegasi laughed together as Rainbow's parents finally disappeared, fading into the darkness around.
Soarin stared at the spaces where they last were, and sighed to himself.
"I believe in Rainbow, but I don't know if she believes in me."
