Blood painted fields. Blue, white and golden armour buried amongst the corpses splayed across the ground. Ponies covered in white cloaks were dotted around the massacre, their bodies beginning to rot. There were also bodies of griffins, but there were only few compared to the ponies.

A scarlet mare stood on a clean emerald field. Staring wide eyed at the mess of blood. Never had she seen such horrible things. It disgusted her. To think that there were creatures who could create such a monstrous scene. She felt like she was going to vomit, however, could not. She had no stomach to empty.
Yet, she could still feel the breeze. She also felt the wind. It was always cold. Like strikes of icy rain. Drifting through her caramel curls.

Behind her, several mysterious shadows appeared on the grass. With no objects to cast the shadows, they stuck out like a sore claw.

However, figures began to rise from the pools of darkness. Revealing several ponies. A couple more ponies trotted over, joining the mare. All of them held sombre looks.

"Sister Solitaire, we've awoken to assist Equestria." A deep blue stallion trotted next to the scarlet mare. Watching as her sea blue eyes scanned her surroundings. Rosso Trek was proud stallion who travelled across Equestria. Being one of the lucky few who weren't placed into a sleep, he travelled with Solitaire for a year or so. Which was absolutely terrible. She was grouchy, moody, cold and terribly harsh to everyone. After that, he travelled by himself. Residing mainly around the Everfree forest.

"Is the situation as bad as you said it was, Sister?" An orange pegasus stallion asked quietly, clearly worried about the sudden events he was told of. His blue and white hair ruffled in the wind, yet, he felt nothing from the breeze. His name was Lightning Chaser. A clutzy, yet intelligent stallion who made incredible items to support the Night Mother's rule.

Solitaire Blade sighed, slowly nodding.
"Yes. Unfortunately for our mother, her land and her sister's land are troubled by pests."

"The griffins have had a long history along with Equestria in peace. Why a war all of a sudden?" A golden coloured unicorn asked. He was one of the few surviving Royal Guards, Solar Flare. He decided to help the shadow ponies after an order from Celestia. Sceptical at first, but Equestria needed him. His family needed protecting.

"Greed. Greed is a sin that the leader has indulged himself in." Solitaire replied.

"Ah, greed. Yet, he may bite off more than he can chew." A white unicorn mare with gleaming red eyes hummed. She was also a shadow pony. Despite her talent was being a singer. She was one of the few shadow ponies who was allowed to live freely. Solitaire allowed her, believing she could use the support. Recently- in the past 6 years-, Death Metal had become a popular singer among Equestria. She loved the adoration and continued. Forgetting completely about her origins.

"Yeah! He's up against us now!!" This pony grinned. This other pony was shorter. A colt. A blank flank colt. With a royal blue coat and slick black mane. His horn poking out. Despite being a colt, he was very intelligent. He was also a shadow pony who had recently awakened. When Nightmare Moon created him, she didn't have enough time to create him into a stallion. So left him as a colt. Yet, his intellect had aided the Night Queen. His name was Midnight Star.

"Indeed. I believe we can do this. We'll protect Equestria. The Princesses and your Sister Assassins." A proud dark bronze stallion assured. His tousled golden locks blowing along with the breeze. He stood right beside Solitaire. Not trusting the mare one single bit. However, with the orders of Celestia, Stormbringer was commanded to trust her.

A blue pegasus stallion trotted beside Stormbringer. Grinning madly as his ruffled dark blue, and light blue mane wavered around his face.
"Solitaire!! Has it been a thousand years already?" Diamond Dust asked, almost trippping over. Solitaire chuckled.

"Yeah. It's been a long time. I apologise for the rude awakening."

"Ah nah problem at all! I needed a stretch anyway." He grinned again. "But, a full on war? That's what my aching wings needed!"

"Calm down, Dust. It's not something to get that excited about." A white pegasus called out, hovering above the others. Her short brown and blue mane flowing along with the wind.
"Besides, Taire hasn't told us everything, have ya, Sis?" She turned to the scarlet mare. Who spread out her black wings.

"No. I haven't told everyone, everything." She flew up into the sky, hovering alongside Soda Pop. Solitaire scanned the group of ponies. Ranging from Royal Guards and shadow ponies.
A red stallion sat on the grass, shocked by the mess of corpses beyond the hill. He was Storm Chaser. Another recently awoken shadow pony. Who was still in shock by the bloodied fields.

"My fellow ponies. Brothers and sisters, and guards. Equestria has fallen before a mighty foe. Despite living without the understanding of magic, they have continued to take the magic of ponies. They have also kidnapped the newest Princess, Princess Twilight Sparkle. Hypnotising her, and using her against us. Currently, the ruler of the Crystal Empire, Prin-"

"The Crystal Empire!? It's back?!" Soda shouted in glee. "I now have a holiday destination!!!" She giggled. Her giggles slowly faded as the elder red mare glared at her. Soda Pop felt a chill down her spine from Solitaire's death stare.
"Right.....sorry..." She sheepishly smiled.

"As I was saying, currently, the ruler of the Crystal Empire, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza and Princess Celestia have lost their magic
"

"Wait, if Princess Celestia, the raiser of the sun, has lost her magic, how has she been raising the sun?"

"You know of the Lord of Chaos? The only living heir to the Draconnequi Kingdom which was destroyed many, many moons ago? Well, he's been raising the sun and balancing the Harmonic Barrier. As crazy as it sounds, it's true."

"But....chaos magic and order magic don't mix well."

"Precisely." Stormbringer stepped up. "For a month or so, Discord, the Spirit of Chaos has been raising the sun. Being our last hope before Equestria is dowsed in eternal darkness. Without the support of the Harmonic Barrier as well, nopony will have the ability to harness magic. Whether it is levitating for unicorns, gliding for pegasi or even looking after the soil and nature. Once the barrier is gone, so is Equestria."

"Thank you, sir. As he said, Equestria will finally die once the support of the Barrier is gone." Solitaire continued. Not noticing the two ponies galloping up to them.

"And we're running out of time." A mare shouted, trotting in front of the red pegasus. Her black cloak twirling around.

A couple of the ponies in the group, who were shadow ponies, stared at the two ponies wearing black cloaks. And gasped.

"Sister Creed!! Sister Creed!!" They shouted, still gazing at the blue mare and stallion.

"Rainbow Dash!! Why are you here? Shouldn't you be looking after your injured?" Taire inquired.

"They're being treated. But we came here to inform you, we're running out of time."

"About what?" Dust snorted.

"Discord. I received a message earlier, he can't hold the magic of both the sun and barrier much longer. He's on his last thread of life. We have to defeat the griffins and get back Princess Celestia's magic. And quick." Rainbow pointed towards the boats of griffins, arriving on the shores. They piled onto the shores, all with blank expressions. Their armour a dull brown.
Soarin cursed at them. Angry at them.
"Solitaire. Can yo-" She abruptly stopped. Watching as the scarlet mare's eyes widen and light up. Slowly, the mare floated down. Her wings still outstretched.

In a flash of black, a set of armour was placed on her. Her hair curled out the top of her helmet, her fringe still curly at the front, bouncing in front of her face. She wore what looked like normal armour, but jet black.

"Sister Solitaire?" Storm Chaser muttered.

"Taire? Are you okay?" Rainbow asked. However, she stumbled back-as did the others- as the elder shadow mare began laughing manically. Scaring a couple of the ponies.

"Yes!!! Ahahahahaha!!! Finally!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I SHALL TASTE THE BLOOD OF BATTLE!!" She cackled. Her face filled with pure madness and joy.

"Sister. Calm down." Death Metal hushed. But the mare had none of it. And continued to cackle.

"LEAVE ASSASSINS!! LEAVE ROYAL GUARDS!! IT'S TIME FOR THE SHADOWS TO SHINE!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!" She screamed. Rainbow Dash trotted over to the laughing manic of a mare, raising her hoof in the process.

The sound of a hoof making contact with flesh echoed around the quiet fields. Everypony gasped as Rainbow Dash slapped the shadow pony. Who stared at the ground from the sudden force to her cheek.

"Get a grip, Solitaire. You can celebrate after the battle. You can't go into battle like that. Just hang on." She huffed.

Solitaire glared at the rainbow mare, rubbing her cheek. Unaware that she felt pain. She sighed in defeat, before smiling innocently.
"I formerly apologise. I guess I let myself get carried away. It's just been so long. We shadow ponies have a habit of going mad."

"Tell me about it." Death Metal muttered.

"It's not that much of a secret." Dust added.

"We know, Sister. But just wait a little while longer. We must get ready for battle." Soda Pop hugged her shadow sister.

"However, I have to agree with what she said earlier. Us guards, and you assassins should leave. The shadow ponies will be able to defeat the griffins. After all, they're pure shadow." Stormbringer began to trot away. "I may not trust you, Solitaire. But, I've been ordered to do so. I have faith that you and your brethren will lead Equestria to victory. But now, we must go."

"Wait!!" Storm Chaser jumped up, followed by Midnight Star. "Wouldn't it be better to stick together?"

"Yeah. Together, we'll be stronger. Us, shadow ponies, will not be enough. Our magic cannot be harnessed, and we can dissolve into pure shadow, however, a surprise attack is needed." The short colt advised. "If we go in all at once, the griffins could be able to avoid us."

"So, you'll use us as a decoy?" Solar Flare questioned, scowling.

"Kinda. You'll charge at them. They would be expecting to only fight you. And reduce their attack. Then, before they can even touch you, we'll rise. And slay them from where they stand." Midnight explained. The others nodding.

"Alright. We'll help."

"Good."

"Wahahaha!! This shall be brilliant!!!" Solitaire jumped up and down like an excited filly. The others watching as she skipped around them. She turned to the griffins who stood proud with their spears and swords. The pegasus stopped and stood in a defensive, yet confident stance.

"Blood may have already been spilled, but we shall drain it all away!!"
