Chapter 8: Finishing cooking

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

The oven temperature was turned up. It would be a few hours before they were done. The three of them stood by the oven, unable to leave their dead friends sides. They started to change color, becoming slightly brown. Pinkie said something that was the worst thing she could have said at that moment. “Ooh caramels! I love caramels, they are so sweet and delicious. They look like caramels, do you think they will taste like them too. Mmm the sweetness, I am tasting caramels.”

The two of them had to leave the room, and cry. The way pinkie had said that was too much for them. Twilight tried to deal with spell work and the like, and Rarity tried to focus on a dress she had to make for a client, but all they could do was cry. All four were off in their own space, not wanting the others to see them cry. They all wanted to be strong for the others, but that just wasn’t going to happen.

The feast

Three of them came back to the kitchen to find perfectly golden roasts. Twilight opened the door to the oven, and then used her magic to perfectly transfer them and the stuffing to a serving platter. Rarity worked her magic and made them look absolutely gorgeous.

The three of them went to get Fluttershy, not realizing how much she was still crying. Rarity as she saw Fluttershy, went to try and console her. She didn’t stop crying completely, but her crying slowed as she followed them back to the farm.

The three of them went to the table as Twilight had Big Mac help with getting the platter to the table. Before they started to eat, Twilight felt she had to say something. “I felt we should say something to honor them. Apple, Dash I don’t know if you can still hear us, but this is for you. I will never forget the good times we had together the six of us, and also how you helped me. No us, the others chimed in. Just know that every day you will be in our thoughts, especially because you sacrificed yourself so that a fellow mare could live.” She finished her speech and all of them were crying yet again, unsure if they could even eat their friends.

Twilight eventually made the first cut on both of them and levitated pieces of their plots to each of the four plates. They ate their first pieces silently, tasting only shame and sadness. The more they ate the more shame and sadness each of them felt. They felt way too guilty about cooking them to truly enjoy the meal.

They kept cutting pieces off of the roasts and eating them. It was quite a noisy affair with all the chewing. It wasn’t long before they got to the innards, which rarity wouldn’t touch. The rest of them dug in, and took what they wanted of the innards.

They left the hearts, as none of the four of them could bring themselves to eat them just yet anyways. The meat was running out, and they were getting full. The rest of the meat was eaten, with only the hearts left. When they started to cut each heart into four pieces, they started to really cry. As they started to eat them, the full realization they had been trying to deny hit each of them pretty hard. Two of their best friends were gone, and this was all that was left of them. They ate their pieces quite quickly, as they couldn’t face savoring them.

A fitting end

Afterwards, they tried to think of a way to honor them. The only thing they could come up with was setting up a cemetery for their bones. It took days for them to get carved gravestones in exact likened of them, and the bones were place in respective coffins. They were buried in holes right next to each other, and Fluttershy gave a few words in their honor. “Let us not forget either of them, and the sacrifices they made many times not only for us, but sometimes for all of equestria. They really showed how great ponies can be.” She had more she really wanted to say, but she couldn’t as she started to cry.

Fluttershy walked back to her friends crying her eyes out, they all cries for a solid ten minutes before lowering the coffins into the grave and buried them. They all tried to leave and continue their day, but they just couldn't. They just stood there crying, Twilight was the first to leave still crying as she walked into her treehouse, followed by Rarity, then Fluttershy whose eyes were red from crying so much. Pinkie was the last one standing at the graves, her mane and tail flat. "Dashie, I know you can't hear me, but I will always remember the pranks we pulled" She wipes the tears from her eyes, "I'll never ever forget you, The same to you Applejack." She hugs both the graves tightly before walking away toward Sugarcube Corner, Crying harder then she ever has before in her life.
