A Very Special Somepony

Chapter 6: Back at the Ranch

The sun was about to set on the Apple’s Family Acres. Away in the far off fields of apple trees, the Apple Family was trying to finish up the rest of their apple bucking before calling it a day. The day was long and hotter than usual, and Applejack was trying her best to make up lost time from that morning. The party that she was supposed to go to that morning was cancelled because apparently Pinkie was in love with some cleaning pony. So since she didn’t have anything else to do, she decided to go back to the ranch and help with the harvest.

“Now wait a darn second Applejack!” demanded Applebloom. “Ur saying that Pinkie Pie is in love with somepony?”

“That’s what I told y’all, you don’t have to keep bothering me bout it” said her older sister, clearly getting annoyed with Applebloom’s pestering. “Now hurry up with those apples, it’s gonna be getin dark soon.

“Big Macintosh, do you think that Pinkie Pie is in love?” asked Applebloom to her big brother.

Big Macintosh just stood there staring with a confused look. His eyes saying ‘why are you asking me’?

“Aw well what you know about love anyways?” scorned Appleblooms.

Big Macintosh just rolls his eyes and got back to his pulling apples.

“Well I think that she’s in love” Applebloom stated.

“Oh really, and what makes you reckon that?” Applejack asks.

“Because it’s almost hearts and hooves day!” Appleblooms screams as she jumps with joy at the very thought of it.

“Horse Apples” she groaned. “That’s the last thing I need, another love struck filly to have to deal with.”

“I can’t help it AJ, I’m just so excited” she just bit her lips with excitement.

Applejack sighed at her little sister. After all, she was still young, young enough not to now about the harsh world of reality, and that love isn’t just giving some young colt or filly a red heart covered in glitter and stickers. She decided it would just be best to let her be a filly. She didn’t have to grow up today.

“Well, as long as you don’t be messin with others personal businesses like last time” Applejack gave a look to her brother, who smiled at the thought of those events that happened almost a year ago. “And please, Applebloom, leave me out of it. I’ve got enough on my plate not to have to worry about you setting me up with some random pony.”

“Well who knows” Applebloom snickered. “I can’t control who the love bug bites” as she pretends to bite Applejack.

“Quit it Apple Blo—hey!” Applejack came dangerously close to being bitten by her sister.

“Relax Applejack, I was only kidding” said the little filly as she was calming down.

“Well, like I said. Keep it to yourself” Applejack grunted.

HONK! HONK! HONK!

There was a loud honking noise. Flocks of sleepy birds scurried away, fleeing from the noise. The ponies looked up, searching for the source of the noise.

“What the hay was that?” asked Applejack.

“Hey Big Mac” Applebloom asked her brother. “Was that who I thought it was?”

Big Mac nodded with excitement. “Yeeeuuuup.”

The large red stallion began to trot lightly to the gate of the ranch.

“Who was that you thought it was?” asked Applejack. Her sister takes off after her brother. “Why isn’t anypony listening to me today? I’m getting mighty sick of it!” she yelled as she ran to catch up with Applebloom.

“What’s that sis?” asked Applebloom from up ahead. “I wasn’t able to catch that! Speak louder!”

Applejack has had enough. “I’m gonna get you!” She yelled, breaking into a full out sprint, easily able to catch up with Applebloom.

By the time that they got to the front gate of the ranch, there was a large wooden carriage parked by the gate. On top of the carriage there seemed to be a lot of bags and suitcases.

“He’s here! He’s here!” cried Applebloom.

Applejack approaches her sister; her breath is a little heavy from the sprint she just ran. “Is somepony gonna tell me what is going on and who is here?”

Applebloom looks at her sister with a state of confusion. “It’s Big Macintosh’s friend from the Canterlot, it’s just been the only thing that he’s been talkin ‘bout for the past week.”

“Big Mac…… talk?” she thought

Just then, the door of the carriage flew open and a strange green glow came from inside.

“What in the name of Celestia is that?” asked Applejack, eyes locked on the strange glowing aura.

A pony is what emerged from the carriage, but not just any pony, but a pony that seemed to be the cause of the glowing. There he stood, a strange looking steed with bright green fur emitting an even brighter green glow.

“Hey Big M!” the strange pony said, he seemed to have a weird way of talking, not an accent or a lisp but it seemed a bit robotic. Kind of like Vinyl Scratch’s voice modifier. “Man has it been a looooonnng time, hey how ya been keepin up Big M, you been doing okay?”

“Yeeeeeuuuuup” he said.

“Hey there!” shouted Applebloom as she went to greet the glowing pony.

“Well you must be Applejack!” he said, scrunching Applebloom’s hair with his hoof. “I’ll be honest, I sort of pictured you being a little taller.”

“I’m not Applejack” she said, as she pointed her hoof to her sister. “THAT there is Applejack, I’m Applebloom.”

“Oh…” he said, a little embarrassed, “I knew that!” The glowing pony began to approach the real Applejack. “Hello Miss Applejack.”

She couldn’t help but blush. “Well howdy to you too…. Umm…”

“Oh, I’ve forgotten to introduce myself, the name is Gigawatt. Might I say it is pleasure to make your acquaintance” he gave Applejack a tooth smile. Like everything else about the pony, his tooth seemed to emit a bright glare of light.

She squints her eyes to avoid the bright shine of his teeth. “Well, ain’t you a sweet talker.”

“Sooooooo” butted in Applebloom. “How come we’ve never met before?”

Gigawatt laughed light-heartedly at the question. “Well, I knew you brother here back when we use to go to school, he was in a higher grade than me of course, but we always seemed to get along.”

“So what happened?” asked Applebloom.

Gigawatt continued his story. “Well unfortunately, my parents were given a job working in the science department in the University of Canterlot. They took this as the opportunity of a life time and we just took off” he became quiet.

“So you had to move away?” asked Applejack.

“Yeah but it wasn’t all bad” he sighed. “Me and Mac always stayed in touch, and I even was given a position at the University.”

“Wow” thought Applejack. “So your one of those one of those, ‘genius, mind science guys?’ shoot I have a friend that you’ll just simply love.” She smiled at the thought of Gigawatt and Twilight talking about magic and science and other things she didn’t care to understand.

“I wouldn’t say genius……” there was a bit of a pause. “Well I’m beat, why don’t we head inside before it gets to dark.”
“Ooooo! Ooooo!” screeched Applebloom. “Follow me I’ll show you to your room.”

Gigawatt smiled at the excited filly. “Why thank you Bloomy, that would be wonderful.”

Applebloom beams at her new pet name as she forcefully drags Gigawatt to the house. Big Macintosh grabs all of his bags in his mouth as he follows his friends to the house. Gigawatt looks back to see that Applejack is still just standing there. He calls back to her. “Hey! Aren’t you coming with us?”

Applejack shakes her head nervously. “Naw, it’s ok, I’m just gonna check up on the……umm apples! Yeah apples.”
“Well, if I don’t see you again tonight then….. Good night Applejack.” He said as he gave her a friendly wave before disappearing into the house.

“Well he sure is something” she thought. It was true, she never had seen such a strange and unique pony, so different than any other pony that she had ever seen. It fascinated her. “Whoa there sugar cube, what gotten into ya” she thought. Why did she have this weird feeling in her gut, indigestion? No that wasn’t it? Twilight would probably know. But it’s too late to visit her. “Could it be….no.” she shook her head again. I mean sure he was cute in a strange quirky way. His glowing green fur, that spikey blue and yellow mane, those thick sunglasses trying to cover his beautiful pink eyes. Beautiful? Was that what she thought he was? “Come on girl, keep it together!” she demanded. “You can’t let Applebloom get to ya.” She started to walk to the house. But she couldn’t stop thinking about Gigawatt.
