A Very Special Somepony

Chapter 15: The Red Side of the Moon

A black butterfly was fluttering in the night, its shadow flicking in the red moonlight. The small creature fluttered into the Everfree Forest as it landed on a strange blue flower. There was a rustle in the forest, the wind blowing through the trees as the butterfly flew off, being carried in the wind. Blown off course, it struggled to gain control, but the wind was too much for its tiny wings. It was soon whisked away, away from Ponyville, away from the Everfree….

Up a dark mountain the butterfly found itself, the wind still carrying it, despite the butterfly’s struggles. It was at the top of the mountain that the small insect finally found sanctuary, a small cave, digging deep into the mountain. The black butterfly had to dig deep as it used all of its wing power to break free of the wind’s grasp. It flapped with all his might, strained itself until the butterfly finally shot towards the shelter of the cave.

Exhausted, but safe, the Black butterfly slowly glided around the cave. It was dark and gloomy, and it seemed to go on forever. As the butterfly fluttered on, it finally found itself a stable looking perch to rest on. It was a large statue of an earth pony. Surrounding the giant ponies, were five large rocks with stone carvings on it, again with different looking ponies craved in them. The butterfly flew up to the large statue of the pony and landed right on its nose, finally giving its wings a rest.

The moon rose higher into the sky, as the cave was illuminated by the red side of the moon. The crimson aura crawled ever so closer to the back of the cave, until the red light had reached the back of the cave, shining on the stone pony.
There was a crack.

The eyes of the statue began to shamble into dust, leaving two glowing spheres in their place. The neck of the statue jerked to the side as the stone surface cracked more. Soon the side of the ponies began to crack as well, leaking out a grey misty substance. The black butterfly quickly flew off the crumbling statue and hovered a few feet away, watching as more and more of the statue fell apart. But even though the statue was crumbling, it never got any smaller. Large sheets of rocks were falling of the pony, revealing a pitch black coat.

Then, the pony began to move. Slowly at first, taking small jerky steps, his joints still embedded in stone. He shook his head and neck, revealing a smoky grey mane. Soon all but a few pieces had fallen off the giant pony. He continued walking towards the entrance of the cave, the black butterfly closely following behind him. The black stallion shook off the remaining bits of pebbles that clung to his coat as he finally reached the edge of the cave. He looked up at the moon. It was half white, and half red. He smiled as he turned to look at the black butterfly looking at him.

“Why hello there little guy” he smiled at the little butterfly. His voice was deep and sharp. “What are you doing all the way out here?” he lifted up a hoof, the butterfly landed on it. “You’re a cute little guy, aren’t cha?” his eyes widened as the butterfly looked up at him. “You know I love butterflies. Did you know that?” the butterfly shook its head. “Yes its true……” his eyes and smile slowly becoming more sinister “There delicious” he said as he quickly shoved the butterfly into his mouth, swallowing him whole.

“Mmmmm” he moaned with pleasure as he chewed the butterfly. “Taste like berries” he took a look at himself. “Black coat, grey mane, is my cutie mark even the same?” he checked his flank. Instead of his old cutie mark, which he couldn’t seem to remember, there was a large red heart broken in two pieces. “That’s new. I think I like this new look” he looked back towards the red/white moon. “So, it actually worked. Perfect” slowly, he turned towards the mountains, on the side of one was a magnificent castle city. “Celestia……” his voice became sad, but he slowly started to laugh. A small chuckle at first, quickly turning maniacal. “Oh Celestia! It’ll be so nice to see you again!” he laughed as he headed back to into the cave.

He walked back to the back of the cave. He looked at the stones that use to surround him. “I guess if I’m going to do this, I may need some assistance” he looked at the first stone tablet. He focused at the first tablet, much like a unicorn but instead of a glowing horn, his eyes started to glow red. Soon a blast of red energy blasted from his eyes and exploded the stone.

From the cloud, a small, round, transparent little colt emerged. His inky black mane, flowing like a wave. He spoke up. “Master? You’ve awaken?” his ghostly face forming a grin.

“Looks that way, doesn’t it Misfit” said the large black pony.

The round colt bowed in respect. “It will be an honor to serve again, Master Pureheart.”

The black stallion cringed at the sound of the name. “Pureheart is dead!” he frowned down on the little pony. “I am now and forever……… Heartbreaker!” he rather liked the name.

“Of course, Master Heartbreaker.” He said obediently.

Heartbreaker let Misfit continue to bow; he had more minions to wake up. He turned to the next stone, and blasted it with his red eye laser. This time, two ponies or rather, two pony heads, came from the dust clouds.

“Mistrust, Lies, I trust you two got along the past 800 years?”

“Of course!” said the blue head, clearly a male. “Didn’t we sister Lies?”

“Of course!” said the red head, clearly a female. “Didn’t we brother Mistrust?”

Heartbreaker rolled his eyes. They weren’t called Mistrust and lies for nothing. “Right, I’m sure…..” he lasered the next statue.

“WHHHHYYYYYY?!” a strained and desperate voice whined as a tall, pale faced colt walked out from the cloud of dust. “WHY DO I HURT SO MUCH MASTER? MAKE THE PAIN GO AWAY!” he was on the verge of crying.

“Quiet Agony!” Heartbreaker snapped at him. “I am not in the mood for your complaining!” the lanky pony sniffled a little, but quickly nodded his head.

He went to the next stone and blasted it as well. “I WAS SLEEPING YOU IDIOT!” a tiny little grey filly pounced out and grabbed Heartbreaker by his hoof. She started to squeeze it, as if to strangle the leg. “I’LL SEE YOU DEAD!” she started to hit him with her hoof.

Heartbreaker sighed. “Always a pleasure Ignorance” he looked to the final stone. “And last and certainly not least…” he easily blew up the rock, a small filly was curled up in a ball, her light green coat covered with X-shaped scars. “Envy….. wakey, wakey” he kicked the filly lightly with his free hoof. Her eyes shot opened. They were pitch white, no iris, no pupils, just white. She angrily grinned her razor sharp teeth.

“Why was I the last one to be awakened?” Envy asked.

“Because master likes you the least!” cackled Misfit.

“It’s not a lie, I promise” said Lies, giving a cheeky smile.

“You can’t mistrust us” said Mistrust, giving a cheeky smile.

“LEAVE ENVY ALONE!” screamed Agony. “LEAVE HER ALONE! I’M SERIOUS!”

“Will you please SHUT UP!” yelled Ignorance, pouncing on the pale-faced pony.

Soon all the little ponies were in a tussle with each other, punching, bucking, biting, choking and head-butting each other. Heartbreaker stood watching his minions.

He face hoofed. “Now I remember why I lost. Ponies stop” they didn’t respond. “Ponies!” he stomped his hoof down, still they kept fighting. “Can’t say I didn’t warn them. PONIES!” he screamed as his mane and eyes erupted into flames. The minions stopped fighting and looked at their master in fear.

Heartbreaker smiled, returning back to normal. “Now that I have your attention, we can begin.” He walked to the entrance, the others following him. Heartbreaker stared out the cave to the many fields, forests, and mountains. “This world is full of kindness and laughter and…..” he shuddered. “Love. Now we can’t have that now can we?” the minions shook their heads in agreement. “Exactly. As you know, the love of everypony weakens me, I could barely free you from your rocks, and that little explosion back there has me a bit tired.” He yawned. “I need you ponies to go out there and find all the hotspots for love.” He smiled as the minions started to get rallied up. “For the more hearts you break, the stronger I get! And soon, when the moon is almost red as blood, I will have my revenge on our dear Princess!” the minions spat at the mention of the Princess.

“Brake their hearts!” roared Ignorance. “Break all their hearts!” she ran and jumped into the air, turning into a grey sphere of energy as she flew away from the cave.

Heartbreaker stared at the rest of the ponies. “……….. You can go anytime now!”

Startled, the rest of the minions followed suit, forming their own colored spheres, and whisking away across Equestria.
He watched them fly away, a sly grin forming on his face. He looked towards the moon. “So it begins” he whispered. He turned towards Canterlot and licked his razor sharp teeth. “Soon, my Princess…….. Soon.”
