A Very Special Somepony

Chapter 13: Pain is Beauty

“Rarity? Are you okay in there?” asked Spike from outside the bathroom of The Carousel Boutique.

“Simply heavenly, dear” she sighed as the water of Rarity’s shower washed away the dirt, and with it her sorrows. The white mare had been in the shower for what seemed like an eternity. She did, after all had to wash up after that unfortunate incident with Clutter. As the final specks of dust fell, she finally felt clean again. “Now, time for some shampoo” she magically lifted a purple bottle towards her. She popped the lid and poured the light pink substance of the bottle onto her hair. As the shampoo began to works its magic, rarity started humming.

Spike crossed his arms and slid to the ground with a thud. “This isn’t what I had in mind when you said you needed help changing!” he yelled through the door.

“Well now Spike, if you want to help me change, could you be a dear and grab me the black dress from my wardrobe?” she called back.

Spike shot straight back up. “Sure thing Rarity!” he called out. “Any excuse to go through your things…..”

“Ahhhh” sighed Rarity as she let the soothing water pour over her body. “Hmm, dee, doo, dee, mee, hmm, dee, doo, mee” she sang softly.

“La, la, la LAAAAA!” a voice sang behind her.

Rarity’s face froze as she slowly turned around to see a pair of giant blue eyes, just staring at her.

“Whatcha singing?” asked Pinkie Pie.

“PINKIE PIE?!” screamed Rarity. She backs away from the pony in her shower, only to slip on a stray bar of soap. She fell into her shower curtains, falling in a tangled mess of the floor. “What are you doing in my bathroom!?”

“Umm, showering? Duh” she said, thinking that it was an obvious question. “You left that window open, so I just hopped in and started singing!” she pointed to the open window, and by ‘open’ she meant the giant shattered hole in the window where Pinkie jumped through. How Rarity didn’t hear it, she had no idea. “But I’m here for something super important to ask you and you’re the only pony that can help me so can you help me? Can ya? Can ya? Can ya?”

“Help you with what?” asked Rarity as she untangled herself from the web of bath curtains.

“I need you…….” She paused as she took a deep breath. “To make me the super greatest astronomically terrific awesome fantastic radiantly glowing mega ultra monster prettiest most beautiful dress that you have ever made in your entire life!”
Pinkie’s head was turning blue by the end of that sentence.

Rarity lit up, but was confused. “Why of course dear, I would love to. But a question, why such a marvelous dress? If you don’t mind me prying.”

“Oh that’s right!” remembering that Rarity had left early to clean up. “You weren’t there! Well…” she was nervous to tell her, maybe it wasn’t a good idea to come here.

“Well?” asked Rarity. “Don’t keep me in distress.”

Finally, after much pause, Pinkie couldn’t keep in any longer. “Ink Spot asked me out ad I want a pretty dress and you’re the only pony that I know that can make dresses!” it felt good to get that all out.

Rarity immediately jumped onto Pinkie, not to attack her, but to hug her. “Oh Pinkie Pie! That is just, just divine!” she pulled herself away. “It would be my pleasure to make you a dress!”

“Really? I mean Really!” she asked. “You mean you’re not mad?”

Rarity was shocked. “Mad? Why in Celestia’s name would I be mad at you Pinkie?”

That’s when Pinkie realized. “So you don’t like Ink Spot?”

“Ink Spot? The cleaning pony?” she paused. “Of course not! I mean he does seem like quite the nice gentlecolt, but he’s just not... how can I put this…… not my type.”

“Oh, well thank you!” smiled Pinkie. “So if you can have the dress ready by tomorrow that’d be great! Ok bye!” she called as she hopped back out the broken window.

“What?” whispered Rarity to herself, did she hear her correctly, she wanted the dress by TOMORROW? “Pinkie!” she called out. “You want it by when?”

“Can’t here you! LALALALALALALALALALALALALA!” she sang as she bounced away from Rarity’s shop.

Rarity slowly slid to the floor. “How am I supposed to make a dress in less than a day?”

There was another knock at the door. “Rarity? Are you okay in there?” Spike asked from the other side of the door.

“Oh dear!” she thought. She had completely forgotten about spike waiting for her. “I’ll be out in a sec!” She quickly dried and combed her hair before opening the door.

Outside stood Spike. “What took you so long?” he asked.

Rarity just skipped idly by, ignoring him. “Now Spike, you know how important it is for a lady to get properly clean and pampered.”

The dragon sighed. She did look extra beautiful, having just come out of the shower. There were still stray drips of steamy water rolling down her toned flank. “Your right Rarity” he sighed. “You’re always right.”

The white unicorn turned red. “Aww, so sweet of you to say that, my little spiky wiky!” she said pinching his cheek. “If you think that then maybe you could do me a little favor for me?”

“Of course Rarity!” he said excitedly. “Anything for you.”

“Thank you Spike” she said, heading down to her work area, Fabrics and mannequins were spread across the room’s floor, and design sketches hung from the walls. “I need you Spike to fetch me some extra gems for my dresses. Pinkie has placed an order for a new dress by tomorrow! And if I can’t get any gems, it will be the WORST. THING. EVER!” she said, collapsing on her magically pulled couch.

“Sure thing Rarity!” he said as he ran to the door. “I’ll be back before you can say Hearts and Hooves Day!” and with that the dragon was off.

Rarity was alone in her studio at last. “Now I can finally get some work done” she said as she levitated a pair of scissors and a roll of fabric.

“Hey Rarity!” a high, bubbly voice said behind her.

Rarity jumped so high that her horn got stuck in the ceiling, bringing a chunk down with her as she fell the ground. “Owww! Pinkie, what are you doing here?”

The pink pony was staring at Rarity, a big catty grin on her face. “Oh I was just wondering if that dress was ready yet?”
“Pinkie…” Rarity said as she let out a deep breath. “It’s only been a few minutes, dear. I haven’t even been able to start yet.”

“Oh Okie-doki-loki!” she sang. “I’ll check back later!” she just stood there staring at Rarity.

“Oooookay?” said Rarity, removing the piece of drywall off her horn and returning to work. She re-levitated the scissors and started to cut into the fabric.

“Are you done nooooooooow?” Pinkie asked.

Rarity let out a uugh as she forced a strained smile for Pinkie. “Pinkie, dear. I am going to need the whole day to work. I’ll stop by tomorrow and drop it of personally.”

Pinkie stood there, thinking. “Hmmmmmmmm, okay!” she said as she hopped out the door. “See you tomorrow!”

“Finally” she groaned. She could finally get some work done. She started to cut out a piece of pink fabric when she heard the door open. “Pinkie I already told you I need more time!” she screamed as she turned around.

“More time for what?” asked Sweetie Belle.

“Oh, Sweetie!” she laughed nervously. “I thought for a second you were Pinkie.”

“Whatever. I just need to grab some things, then I’m off again.” Sweetie said as she walked to a trunk labeled ‘Sweetie Belle’ on it. She opened it and began to throw a bunch of random things into a saddle bag. “Why did you think that I was Pinkie?” she asked.

“Oh, she was here earlier asking if I could make her a dress for tomorrow.” She told her sister.

“Why would she need a dress? Does she have a special somepony?” she asked excitedly.

“Something like that…” Rarity said. “She met a nice young steed and wants to make a good impression” she cut another line in the fabric. “She seems really excited about this, more excited than I’ve ever seen her before.”

“Okay” Sweetie said as she loaded the last item in her bag. “If you need me I’ll be at Appleblooms.”

“Don’t be too late!” Rarity called as Sweetie ran out the door. “Well maybe I could finally get some work done.” She began to cut deeper into the fabric. As she was cutting, she began to think. She didn’t have any special somepony this year, something that had never happened before. And with Pinkie with Ink Spot, she couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for herself. “Oh if only I could find my Prince Charming! But alas, I seemed to be cursed to forever walk this earth with no pony to be my own. OH WOE IS ME, OF ALL THE WORST POSSIBLE THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN, THIS IS THE WORST. POSSIBLE. THING!” she cried as she leaped into her couch, crying. “Why is it that fate looks down on me as I wallow in my pity. WHY CELESTIA! WHY?”

There was a knock on the door. She jumped up from the couch as sparkling tears roll down her face. “Is that you, my prince? Have you heard my calls and come to whisk me away from all my sadness and sorrows? Oh in the name of Celestia! Whisk me away from this world to one with only us my prince!” she got up and swayed to the door.

“Welcome my Prince!” she cheered as she opened the door. But as she expected a prince, she instead got a dragon.

“Hey Rarity, I got the gems you wanted!” the dragon said, handing an assortment of different colored gems to her.

“Oh Spike, it’s you” she wiped the last of her tears away from her eyes. “I’m terribly sorry for my current condition, I just need to be alone for a bit” she took the gems. “Thank you for the gems Spike.”

“Rarity, actually I have something to ask you….” The dragon said nervously. “I was wondering……” his voice trailed off.

“Could you speak up dear” Rarity asked. “I couldn’t catch that last part.”

“I was wondering…….” Spike’s voice trailed off again.

“Spike” Rarity began. “I really have a lot of work to do.”

The little dragon tried his best to respond, but he was unable to find his voice.

Rarity exhaled a breath. “I’m sorry Spike, but I really have work to attend to. Goodbye” she said, slamming the door behind her.

“RARITY I REALLY LIKE YOU AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU WOULD WANT TO GO OUT SOMETHIME BUT IF NOT THAT’S COOL OKAY SEE YOU TOMORROW BYE!” he blurted out. “THERE I SAID IT!” in a fit, the small dragon ran home.

Rarity opened the door, a confused look on her face. “Spike? Did you say something?” she looked around and when she didn’t see him, she simply shrugged and closed the door so she could finish her work.

It was a long walk back to the library for the dragon.

Back at the library, Twilight and Soulstice were delving deep in their studies. When Twilight comes across a strange book.
“Hey Soulstice! Check this out” she called.

“What is it?” he asked, looking over her shoulder.

“It’s another myth about the Red Heart Moon.”

“Really, what does it say?”

Twilight flipped the page. “It saids here that the reason for the Red Heart moon was a very special pony called Desire, who every year enchanted the moon under the order of the Princess, and when he disappeared, so did the Red Heart Moon.”

“Why did he disappear?” asked Soulstice.

“I don’t know.” She looked frantically into the pages. “It doesn’t say. I don’t think anypony knows.”

Just then the door swung open. A depressed looking Spike walked in.

“Hey Spike” the two said. The dragon just grumbled as he walked upstairs.

Soulstice looked at Twilight. “What’s up with him?”

“Oh he’s had a crush on Rarity, and he was going to proclaim that love today.” She glanced up to the dragon. “Judging by his attitude, things didn’t go so well.”

“I couldn’t even ask her!” the dragon screamed from up the stairs.

“Okay, okay!” said Twilight. “I think the Red Heart Moon Has everypony going love crazy.”

Soulstice sighed. “Yeah, absolutely crazy.”
