The sun crept through the cloud window striking the cyan pegasus in the eyes with its bright rays. This was a mild annoyance for Rainbow. Rainbow hadn’t remembered what had happened last night, one moment she was partying and the next she was… well now that she thought about it, she didn’t know where she was. Her eyes were still closed in an attempt at fighting off the sun. She was comfortable, with no hangover to ruin her day and just wanted to sleep for a little longer. I guess I have to wake up… she thought as her attempts at evading the sun were futile.
She opened her eyes and checked her surroundings. She recognized the room immediately, it was her room. She relaxed as she lay her head back to her pillow and rolled on her side. Unlike anything else in her room, she was now face-to-face with something unfamiliar. Another pegasus lay next to her. The sudden surprise startled her as she let out a scream and jumped out of her bed.
“Ahh… what happened where am I?” the indigo pegasus screamed in confusion.
“I should be asking you that,” Rainbow now forming a piece of cloud into a bat, “who are you and why are you in my bed?”
“What are you doing…,” he said staring at the bat, “wait! I remember, I just brought you home cause you were drunk. You wanted me to stay with you and it was late so I did.” The words had rushed out of his mouth so fast it took them both a while to comprehend what he had just said.
Rainbow lowered her bat, “oh… my bad, sorry about that.” The stallion suddenly regained his composure, “Not a problem, I would’ve probably reacted the same way. Based on the context of their current situation, Rainbow could only think of one thing to ask. “So did we, you know, do anything?” “Of course not, I would ever take advantage of a mare.” His words shot out as fast as before. Rainbow surveyed the stallion in front of her, “shame,” she said in a joking, but flirtatious manner.
The usually cool stallion had trouble keeping composure with the mare that was in front of him, especially when she had done that. He had come from a small town and although he hadn’t been new to encounters with the opposite sex, he found sexual matters to be quite awkward. He had been a gentlecolt through and through, and felt uneasy when any mare had offered herself to him. He was known for being calm and collected, but he would always lose his cool in situations like these.
He had to change the subject. “So, I believe I never properly introduced myself, my name is Sparks, but most people call me-”
“Sparky.” Rainbow added with a chuckle. “And you are looking at the best flyer in Equestria, Rainbow Dash.”
“Hmm.. Rainbow Dash,” he responded trying to remember where he had heard that name. “Aren’t you the one that challenged me? Looks like you’ll have a chance to prove it, assuming you can beat me,” a carefree smile came upon his face as he finished his sentence. For him it had been a just a friendly race, but for her it had meant much more. Upon remembering her challenge she felt doubtful. She had been rash, and challenged him without seeing how great of a flyer he was. She now felt the same respect for him that she did with the other Wonderbolts, whether she could beat him or not was not a problem. She felt dim-witted for having sent that letter, then her attitude had instantly changed; she felt stupid again, but this time for doubting herself.
I can beat him and I WILL join the Wonderbolts after I do. Although she still felt bad about challenging her new found idol, she figured there would be no hard feelings. The race still meant more to Rainbow than it did for him, but she soon adopted his carefree attitude. “Oh don’t you worry, I WILL beat you, and after that I will prove myself to the Wonderbolts.” He had scanned her room; it was full of Wonderbolts posters and merchandise. “So you want to be a Wonderbolt?” Aware of that his focus switched to her posters and having heard his question she slightly blushed, “Yeah.” Her reply had been humble, although she was confident about becoming a Wonderbolt, her fangirl room had made her feel sheepish.
“Well, I’m kinda tired from last night’s show, it took a lot out of me.” Rainbow knew where this was going, “it’s fine, we can always race later, chicken.” Both pegasi laughed, “Whatever… so anyways how would you like to go with me to have breakfast with the Wonderbolts?” Rainbow was full of glee upon catching is this, “Are you serious? This is gonna be AWESOME.”
“Well I hope you don’t mind, but may I borrow you shower?” After he finished he waited for her to do the same. While she had been using the shower he had taken the liberty of looking at her collection of all things Wonderbolts. Although he had been a Wonderbolt, he hadn’t known much about them, there were never any air shows where he lived. The truth is, they found him. He had been a great flyer, so his parents sent him to Cloudsdale. It had been his first time in a big city, he was taken away by the sights and sounds. He was sent to compete in the infamous Cloudsdale Flying Test. Almost no pegasus attempted to face the nefarious trials. They were known for being incredibly difficult. These tests could either make or break a pony’s reputation. He passed with flying colors and it wasn’t long before he heard from many ponies, but there was something about the Wonderbolts, they had seemed to actually care.
His memory soon faded away when Rainbow Dash had walked in on him holding one of her scrapbooks. He quickly put it back, but she didn’t seem to notice as she dried her mane. She looked back at him so he pretended to quickly shift his focus to a picture. That’s when he found himself staring at a picture of a tomboyish filly. The multicolored mane gave him indication to who it was. “Is that you as a filly?” He continued before she could reply, “you know you are probably the cutest filly I’ve ever seen,” she blushed slightly. “Whatever,” she tried to change the subject, “lets go already.” He let out a sigh, “okay, ready?” She looked at him with a smile, “I was born ready!”
“Try to keep up,” he was already out the door before he finished. “Hey that’s cheating,” Rainbow called out before taking off after him.
