Chapter 1: Two Worlds; One Heart

Two Worlds; One Heart

"I had a great time at the dance tonight, Diamond. You were great." Silver Spoon sighed as she sat next to her dearest friend on the concrete steps to the tall brick manor she called home.

"I know I was. It was lots of fun unlike the Fall Formal. At least no freaks destroyed the school and ruined it for us like last time." Diamond Tiara chuckled before turning to face her date. "I'm glad we decided to go to the dance together. I like it best when it's just the two of us, you know? We don't need anyone else to have fun at dances or wherever. Just... us."

"I feel the same way. It's, like, other people just don't get us... Not that I care. I just think it's funny how they look at us sometimes—like they can't wrap their minds around us not caring about whatever it is the class or school is doing unless we're doing it on our own. I guess I can see how it'd be hard for them to get it. Especially those three." Silver Spoon let her dress-shoes dangle on the tips of her toes as she looked up into the deep orange sky and sighed. "They'll never be like us."

Diamond placed her fist to her mouth as she stretched and overtly faked a yawn, her arm casually falling across Silver Spoon's otherwise distracted shoulders. "How could they? It's not like they're anywhere close to being as great as us, or as rich as us... or as cute."

Silver blushed and looked down at her blue silk dress gleaming in the evening light with a crooked smile. "...It's a little chilly."

"Want me to grab my jacket? It's just inside on your coat rack," Diamond offered, nodding towards the door.

Silver Spoon quickly shook her head and scooted across the step, cuddling up to her friend. "No. I'm okay."

Diamond Tiara gulped and bit down on her tongue. She lifted her hand and held it just above Silver Spoon's bare shoulder, frozen in place. She adjusted herself and fought for the nerve to set her hand back down. Then, with a deep breath, she closed her eyes and gripped her friend's warm, exposed shoulder, pulling her ever closer.

"Warmer?" Diamond blushed and closed her eyes.

"Very much so. Thank you." Silver Spoon squeezed her arms together and chills ran up her spine. "How did we get this way, Diamond?"

"Uhm... you just kind of rammed into me. Remember?"

"No, not this. I mean, how did we get to this point in our lives? I feel like you're the only person I've ever cared about. You're my best friend. You're just..." Silver Spoon squeezed her eyes shut and pressed herself against Diamond's chest.

Diamond placed her free hand to her cheek as she gazed into the distance. "I'm just what?"

"... Everything."

"Ugh!" Diamond Tiara stomped her hoof and trudged across her bedroom before forcefully throwing herself onto her bed. "Worst dance ever!"

Silver Spoon stood at the bedside, a crooked grin on her face. "Hey... it wasn't so bad. At least we got to have a dance before everything went crazy."

"I wish they didn't go to our school... Those three are just the worst." Diamond Tiara scooted up and sat against her pillows, patting a spot on her bed next to herself for Silver Spoon to join with a grumpy frown.

Silver smiled and hopped onto the bed next to her friend, her silky blue dress laying across her haunches. "How about from now on, we just avoid them. I mean, it's not like we really have it in us to be their friends, so let's just ignore them and pretend they don't even exist. I'm sure they'll be happier that way too, then this'll never happen again."

Diamond shook her head and sighed. "Easier said than done..."

"I don't know. I think it would be better if we just stuck together, just the two of us. Don't you think we'd be happier without dealing with those annoying little twerps all the time?" Silver Spoon put on her most assuring smile and tilted her head. "Just give it some thought. I mean, think about how our night would have gone if we didn't decide to be mean to them."

Diamond Tiara grinned and looked down at her own punch-stained ball gown. "Maybe you're right..."

"I think we should have stopped messing with them a long time ago. I like you better when you smile." Silver Spoon lifted her hoof and held it out.

Diamond Tiara looked down at the outstretched limb, a bubbly feeling crawling up her chest. She reached forward and rested her hoof atop Silver's, slowly looking up to meet her eyes. "Why do you care so much?"

"I promised..." She blushed and looked up through the window, the setting sun lighting up her bright purple eyes beneath her glasses. "I know it might sound stupid, but I promised you that..."

"... that we'd be best friends forever, and always look out for each other." Diamond finished the thought. "It does sound a little silly, doesn't it? We're going into middle school now; doesn't that change things?"

"It can if we want it to. It can be a fresh start for us. We'll let Scootaloo and them do their own thing, and hopefully they'll not bother us," Silver Spoon explained as she tilted her hoof, cupping Diamond's.

As Silver Spoon put on a bright smile, a glint of light streaked across her wide glasses and shined into Diamond's eyes. Diamond then sat up and placed her other hoof beneath Silver's. "Hey... remember when we learned to bump bump sugarlump rump?"

"Uhm... I think so, yeah?" Silver tilted her head with a puzzled frown.

"What did it mean? Why did we come up with that?" Diamond asked with one wide eye and a crooked smirk.

Silver shrugged. "I don't remember."

"Me neither..."

Each filly stared at the other, their eyes locked. "Let's do it. We haven't bumped in a long time."

"What? Really? Right now?" Diamond Tiara blushed and shook her head as Silver Spoon stood off the bed, pulling her friend with her.

***

Silver Spoon stood on her large stone porch with Diamond's hands holding her own, each young girl slowly swaying from side to side. Diamond Tiara looked down at her feet while her thoughts wandered away.

"Everything?"

Silver Spoon shook her head and smiled, pulling Diamond closer. "With you around, what more could I need?"

"Hm." Diamond smiled and wrapped her arms around Silver Spoon's waist, twirling her around. "Sounds about right."

***

"So, the Spring Fling was the last dance of the year. Let's make tonight a happy night, like we thought it'd be." Silver Spoon held her front hoof out to Diamond once again, standing in the middle of her bedroom.

"Okay." Diamond took her hoof and pulled her friend closely. "Want to finish our dance then?"

"Just the two of us..."

"Alone."

"We're not alone if we're together, silly." Silver Spoon closed her eyes and stepped in a graceful circle, twirling beneath Diamond's foreleg.

"I guess you're right... but the two of us together are still alone," Diamond reiterated as she stepped in time with her friend.

"Diamond, just the two of us is just fine. You're here with me, so what more could I ask for?" Silver Spoon stopped spinning, her dress wrapping around her flank in a spiral before falling flat as she pressed herself against Diamond's chest.

"Just the two of us..." Diamond Tiara's brilliant blue eyes twinkled in the evening light as her smile widened. "That sounds perfect."

***

"You know, Silver." Diamond cleared her throat as Silver Spoon brushed the bangs from her face, making sharp eye contact.

"Yes?"

Diamond Tiara gulped and let out a deep breath. "It's just that, well, you're everything to me, too. This life I have, this money, well I hated it before I found you. You make everything better. You make me happy. I never felt happy like this before you became my friend. The closest thing to happiness I knew was teasing the other girls in class, but... I don't even know why I ever bothered now."

"Hey..." Silver Spoon frowned and placed her hand on Diamond's cheek. "Don't get too sappy on me. That's not you, Diamond."

"I know that!" The haughty young girl huffed as her cheeks grew red. "I'm trying to be nice, okay?!"

Silver Spoon smiled warmly as she pressed her cheek against Diamond's chest. "I know you are, and that means a lot to me."

Diamond lost her attitude as she stood still, and Silver Spoon's arms tightly wrapped around her body. Her hands hovered just above Silver's shoulders yet again as she forced herself to grab onto the affectionate girl. Bright blue eyes met vivid purple ones as each of the two best friends inched closer together, their noses nearly touching.

As her nose brushed against Diamond's, a chill ran up Silver's spine and she forced her eyes closed before looking away. "Let's go inside. It really is getting chilly out here."

"Hm?" Diamond Tiara sighed and shook her head as she snapped back into reality. She then looked up into the dark blue sky, several stars twinkling into existence. "It's late, isn't it..."

"I'll have the maid get us some hot tea. I'm actually dying to take these shoes off already. Let's go to my room." Silver Spoon slowly backed away from her friend's warm hug and led the way into her home.

As her friend stepped out of sight, Diamond glanced back into the night sky, a shooting star stealing her attention as it streaked across the sky. Is that a sign for something? she wondered. Maybe I'll make a wish...

***

Two fillies twirled around together in a warm bedroom, smiles stretched across their faces as they span in their frilly ballroom gowns. They stopped and fell to all fours, each out of breath. Their smiles ever bright, they leaned closer to one another, muzzles brushing together as their eyes closed. A shimmering shooting star lit up the evening sky, unnoticed by the fillies, who hesitantly inched closer together.

"Uhm..." Diamond Tiara glanced away and bit her lip. "Are you thirsty? I could get us something to drink..."

Silver Spoon sighed and smiled, nodding as her blushing friend trotted out of the bedroom. She then hopped back onto the bed and rested against the pillows, her hooves over her chest as her heart raced. She closed her eyes and fought the wide, goofy smile plastered across her face. Maybe next time... I can wish, at least. she thought, a blissful sigh falling from her lips.

I'm all yours from now on, Diamond. I hope you'll be all mine.

***

Diamond Tiara clenched her fist with a confident grin as she followed her friend into her luxurious home, who turned back and winked with a smile. Looks like she's all mine. Diamond Tiara winked back before she headed upstairs on her own.

Guess I'm all hers, too.

Author's Notes:

A quick thing I wrote a while ago. I had planned on revising it and doing more, but decided it's fine as is. I hope everyone likes it. Leave a comment to tell me what you thought. I know I just love these two and can't get enough of them. Feel free to recommend a good Deets fic too. Note that if it's popular, I've already read it.

Thanks!
