Chapter One:Thoughts And Feelings
A Day In My Life Without You
Chapter 1: Feelings And Thoughts.
Twilight lay there in the cool grass right in front of foggy bottom bog. The sun shining in her purple hair with streams of pink. She stared at the water for several minutes, pondering things only she would find of importance while she occasionally jotted down some notes on her small notebook with her unicorn magic. But another type of energy rocketed through her body at that moment other than unicorn magic. It seemed to be a strange mix of sadness and anger. Those two emotions kept a steady battle with each other. Those emotions didn’t seem to perturbed her thoughts. In fact, she felt as thought her feelings and what she was writing down went hoof in hoof.
Those minutes stretched into hours as she deeply concentrated at the tadpoles swimming in the water, the ripples they produced seemed almost hypnotizing in a way. The way they wriggled at the sign of any movement looked almost cute in a way.
She slowly started to close her eyes, with each blink making her seemingly more sleepy. It took some time herself to notice that she was starting to occasionally close her eyes at different intervals.
“whoa, come on now twilight sparkle, get a hold of yourself!” she said to herself as she gently slapped her forehead with her hoof to keep her from dozing off. She set back concentrating back once again to the tadpoles. Her concentration was now more screwy than ever thanks to her mind setting back to the same thought; sleeping.
Probably the only thing that kept her awake were those still lingering feelings of sadness and anger. Despite how powerful those feelings were inside her, she felt extremely groggy. She wrote down something on her notebook and, as if on purpose, scooted over closer to the edge of the pond. Now her hair would be touching the water anytime she decided to lay down. Now, finally ready, she closed her eyes and waited for it to happen. That one thought that, until now, seemed bliss.
She woke up with a startle to find her whole face soaking wet and felt as if her lungs haven’t been receiving oxygen in ages.
“my head must’ve slinked and been underwater in the pond, that was what probably woke me up” she thought to herself while heavily breathing for the precious oxygen she so desired. Twilight looked around, her eyes slowly adjusting to the low amount of light. She used her hoofs to try to wipe away any excess water.
It was surprisingly cold for the usual spring nights
“now where was it?” she mumbled to herself, barely aware to where she was even supposed to be heading. The moonlight Luna so thankfully provided today was her only source of guidance in this dreary night. Despite how bright it was, she couldn’t seem to find her way back home.
“eh, whatever” she said, finally giving up to the power of after-sleep and decided she should teleport back home.
She took a “power stance” as she readied her spell. Her horn started to glow, faintly at first. she started to muster all her power into this one simple task.
“come on twilight, you have done this many times before!” she muttered to herself angrily As she screwed up her face in concentration. Why was this spell taking so long? Or in this case, not working at all?
Suddenly she felt a tingle in her horn. A sensation she had felt many times before after successfully completing a spell. Instead of going back home, instead of feeling as thought she was being stretched into thin spaghetti, her horn simply emitted an eerie glow that barely even gave light.
“huh?” said twilight dumbfounded as to what just happened.
“no! I wanted a teleportation spell, not a measly lighting spell!”
She attempted time and time again the same spell with similar results. Twilight just could not understand how her magic rejecting this one spell. She tried many different spells to see what was wrong with her. Morphing spell? Check. invisibility spell? Check. The list went on and on. Not until the sixteenth spell check did she come to the painful conclusion that she couldn’t teleport, or do any magic whatsoever.
The moon now seemed to be almost exactly in the middle of the star-filled sky. She stared up at the sky and noticed herself that it seemed a little past midnight.
“oh, come on! All that time I was spell checking I could’ve already found my way back home!” she looked around still trying to get her bearings of her surroundings.
“wait, wasn’t it…” said the now-fully awoken twilight as she pointed her head in a direction south of where she took her nap.
She strained her eyes to see if there was any kind of clue as to where was ponyville. Sure enough she saw small lights twinkling in the musty star-filled night.
“aha! I knew reading that survival book for camping wasn’t a waste of time! Silly spike and he thought…” suddenly twilight realized how long she had actually been away. All of her friends must have been worried sick! Oh, poor spike he must be looking everywhere for me!
“Lets see, what was the last thing I told him…” she tried to remember but she only drew a big blank. As if the her memories were being shrouded by something more powerful…
“ah well, he’s old enough, he knows were to get food. Besides I will just clear everything up when I go back to ponyville!” she said as she trotted happily but cautiously over to ponyville.
“come to think of it, cant remember what was the last thing I said to fluttershy , or applejack, or anypony for that matter. How odd. All that studying and napping took a really big bite from my memory. Well, that seems to be the only logical solution…” said the purple pony as she continued to walk to where the lights were.
Deep inside, she felt that her mind was playing tricks; that she was trying to forget all this on purpose, for good or for the better. But why would she try to do that? They are her best friends, anytime spent with them was a happy memory! Well she did feel pretty angry at something, but she simply couldn’t put her hoof on what that was. Maybe she was just cranky from being awoken in such a diabolical way. (being almost drowned, that is)
“Maybe” she said. She had this strong feeling that the reason she forgot all this was because of her the slightly cranky/angry nature she was right now . But she kept lying to herself saying that it was just all just a strange coincidence. Maybe she just happened to lose her memory the same day she decided to study by the pond. Well then again she thought the same thing with pinkie pie’s pinkie senses… she decided to look at her notebook to see if anything she wrote down sparked a memory inside here head. She felt around her hoof for her notebook. It wasn’t there! Being that she didn’t have it, she kept asking herself for the longest time;
“what did I write in that notebook?” she thought to herself. She even forgot to bring it! How forgetful of her! Well whatever it was, it can’t be more important than telling everypony were she was.
All this time she spent pondering these thoughts that still lingered in her head, she found out how close she was to ponyville. She had already come up to a residence close to where she lived.
“thank goodness!” she said, exasperated and just anxious to get to her nice, warm bed. Just thinking about it made her feel cold. VERY cold. Come to think of it, she wasn’t sweating, much less even warm from the exercise she just got from her admittedly long walk. At this point she really didn’t pay much attention.
She soon spotted her house/ library beaming with light as bright as…
“wait, WHAT?” she said to herself. “It is midnight and my lights are on? Maybe… oh, wait, they must be looking for me!” she said, calming down from the major shock that just jolted her body seconds ago.
she opened the door gently with her hoof, as to not alarm anypony that saw her.
“don’t worry everypony, I’m here I’m here.” she said as smoothly as possible. Every one of her friends looked over where she was standing. She expected to be flooded with hugs or to just be received with at least a smile. Nope, all seven (including spike) just stared wide-eyed at her.
“what? I was lost, not dead!” she joked, laughing and her own joke. Not even pinkie, a pony who seemed to laugh at everything stayed to be solely concentrated on her. Or, was it the door behind her?
She craned her neck so she would be able to see what they were so intently looking at. Behind her was a small table with seven cups of very cold-looking tea, and the door right behind it. What kind of novelty was there to be had with these three simple items?
“oh, mah, apples…” said applejack who seemed to be the most scared one of the bunch (yes, even more than fluttershy.)
“d-d-d-did you see the, the…” said rainbow dash
“THE DOOR OPENED BY ITSELF!” yelled rarity at the top of her lungs.
“what?! What kind of cruel joke is this?!” yelled twilight angrily at them.
“oh, they aren’t imagining.” said a cold, lifeless voice somewhere in the room.
“wh-who are you? And what have you done to me?!” questioned twilight at what seemed to be empty space.
“oh, how rude of me. Allow me to introduce myself.” in a flash of blinding light appeared pony with a long black cloak with a hood that covered all of his body. Most of its body was recognizable (to say the least) except for the head. The shadow produced by his hood made it seem as if he had no head to begin with.
“I, as they like to refer to me, am the pony most other ponies fear to meet. I am!” it said with a dramatic tension in his voice that was barely noticeable. Every word it said seemed to have the same, lifeless tension and cold white expression .
“get on with it!” twilight said, now focusing solely at the hooded figure appearing before her.
“I am what very few ponies seek, yet everpony else seems to fear or try to cheat!”
“don’t go spitting you’re mumbo-jumbo at me! You are talking to somepony that bested discords riddle! Have at it!” she said as she began to wind up a head butt.
“oh but there is no riddle to be had in anything I have said. It all depends at which point of the scope you have me looking through. And it seems you were looking at the wrong end.”
“I am Death.”
Chapter Two: The Death Mare
A Day In My Life Without You
Chapter 2: The Death Mare
“that is simply impossible!” said twilight with a hint of nervousness in here voice.
“death isn’t something impossible, in fact, it’s quite unavoidable!”
“quite?” questioned twilight
“Celestia and luna being one of the few. damn alicorns… well as you can see” he started to say, but after a few words he noticed twilights lack of attention and simply stopped until he thought it would be a good time to resume his little lecture.
Twilight, still resentful from the news that had been given to her, sat down and started to wonder how in all of equestria did she end up dead? Food poisoning? No, spike made her last sandwich and he is incapable of that! Killed? Well she did hear of this killing spell, but no pony in all of the years Celestia had been alive has there ever been a case of somepony being killed by another pony. Twilight soon saw that death seemed to be quite impatient to tell her what just happened. So she stared at him and lifted her eyebrow as if to say “keep going…”
“well, you see I am the mare in charge of all this afterlife and such. See?” he said as he produced a very long and sharpened scythe from under his long, black cloak.
“ whoa, whoa, whoa, wait aren’t we supposed to, y’know, see some bright light and then get sent to like, another dimension where there is no pain or something?” asked twilight as she carefully inspected his face. (or were it was supposed to be, anyways) his eyes were barely visible, they seemed to be just to two white balls hanging in midair. She couldn’t tell exactly what color they were in the middle. Hazel? Brown? Maybe even a little green?
“pfft, you are actually foolish enough to believe that stuff? I though you were the smartest pony around?”
“well it’s a theory, a WIDELY accepted idea that is backed up by facts…” twilight trailed off looking at the other 5 ponies (and dragon) that know were starting to creep closer to the door, as though it was about to explode any second now.
“come on pinkie pie! Just a little closer…” said rainbow dash as she squinted a the door as if it would speed up the process.
“easy for you to say! You are not the one that is about to close a door that has been touched by a ghost!” said pinkie pie as she crawled towards the door as slowly as possible.
Twilight soon began to process all this information inside her tiny little pony head. As if by instinct, she yelled “aha!” when she came to a… quite painful conclusion.
“this must mean I really am dead! dead… but that’s impossible! How could I have died!”
“well I’m only here for the job, I don’t know how ponies die, I just,” he said as he levitated the scythe closer yet to twilight
“do the job. Well it looks like you are on your own for the rest of you’re life! Or afterlife, or whatever they call it these days! Well, at least till one of you’re friends bites the dust. might be the pink one” he whispered to her ear.
“well, if you must…” she said, as she lowered her head in sadness and a single tear rolled of her cheek. That single, burning tear seemed to rip across her face knowing that it might be the last time she might be able to produce a tear, or even feel heat for that matter.
“wait,” she said as she snapped her head back up to take a better look at death.
“why in all of the wide, wide world of equestria is my tear warm? I’m dead! Shouldn’t it be cold too?!”
“well, you see, I WAS going to explain to you this, but you seemed too resentful and gave up without a fight, what with all these pieces of news hitting you like a brick. Unlike most other ponies your age… you see, umm, how do I put this? Well, the thing is, you may not be dead, but that doesn’t mean you are still alive.”
Twilight shook her little unicorn head, trying to understand the sentence that was just delivered to her.
“wait” she said, blinking as slowly as she could so she wouldn’t have to concentrate on anything else. (actually, I sometimes do that. Just a habit editors note)
“isn’t that an oxymoron?” death just shook its (barely recognizable) head and said
“look child what I’m trying to say is that you aren’t dead, but you are still living. A rarity of an occurrence.”
“so, what does this mean again?”
“it means that” he was cut off by a certain pink pony rushing back to where the other six were. She panted heavily as she said
“I *pant didn’t *pant see anything! *pant” she heaved herself on the couch that for some reason, nopony was sitting there.
“pfft, what a wimp! I could run 50 miles and not break a single sweat!” she said as she flared her wings to an admittedly impressive length.
“rainbow dash, dear, this really isn’t the time for one of your little, err, moments.” said rarity whilst calming down pinky pie.
Not until rarity spoke did she notice that all of them didn’t look like their usual self. Pinkie pie did have her signature looked unhappy, almost sad. Rarity didn’t have any type of makeup or even a fancy new headdress or any of the sorts. Rainbow dash was the only pony who physically didn’t change, yet she seemed to lost most of her pep that usually protruded far from where it needed to stay. Fluttershy was, being her usually shy self but she looked very Yet her pink mane looked very awful. It looked very ugly , with some bald spots, bits of branches and even some animal fur clinging to her as if it was her own fur. Applejack was caked full of mud and dirt. Her ponytails were practically non-existing and she seemed… quite?
“why are all these ponies acting very… differently?”
“that was were I was going before I got very rudely interrupted!” he said as he glared venomously at pinkie pie.
“I tried to say that when stuff like this happens, I have to give you what some ponies may call, a chance?”’ he said as he looked at twilight as if waiting for a response from her.
“and what does this have to do with me both not being alive and my friends connected?”
“well you see if and only if”
“does this mean?” she said as she immediately walked towards him, grateful for what he was (hopefully) going to say.
“ if and only if you manage to find out how you died in 24 hours, you will be spared.”
“OH, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!” she screamed with glee as she scooted closer to death a she tried to give him a hug. He slowly backed away, disgusted and resentful of. Such a showcase of affection towards him.
“BUT” he said as he tried to out-yell twilight
“but what?” said twilight as a concerned face became immediately plastered on her face.
“but at the end, I have to learn something too. Anything other than how you died”
“but you have lived eternally! You can’t teach an old dog new tricks!”
“unless he forgets them. Well, Good luck either way! But first…” he said as he leaned closer towards twilight. A dark mist came out of his cloak and soon swirled around twilights head as if it was a tentacle, trying to choke its prey.
Twilight soon felt really dizzy and lightheaded. Her whole world spun around her enveloping her in a blur of lights and colors. She couldn’t take it anymore and collapsed to the floor, expecting to faint. However, quite the opposite happened. She somehow felt more awoken than ever. She seemed to grasp on to whatever form of alertness that she had.
“right now, you feel, sad and lonely, and maybe even angry that you have to spend time with me. But deep inside, you feel a lot of happiness and hope that you still might have a chance to live.” He said as his tentacle whipped back inside his cloak.
“ what did you do?!” she said as she snapped back to reality and shook her head.
“ well, it seems I can read minds and feelings, I was just showcasing a small morsel of what my powers can do.”
“well it seems that it will prove useful in my little escapade from death”
“hah! Do you really think I am stupid enough to just loose another soul? Never!” he said with a hint of smugness in his voice.
“we will see about that!” said twilight as she saw what was happening over at the couch. They were all piled up on top of each other, pinkie pie at the bottom, spike at the top. They all looked like homeless the way they were, yet so sweet and innocent.
“So, what do we do first?” asked twilight
“ I don’t have the slightest idea. You’re the boss, so, what exactly do we do?”
“sleep? Said twilight as she laid down and closed her eyes ready to finally get what she so desired since she had awoken by the bog.
“oh, no, no, no, no, spirits never sleep. They are always awake and alert. Never sleepy or groggy.”
“then why do I feel so… oh, maybe because I’m still like half alive or something?”
“ well, maybe, but you MIGHT want to milk you’re time for what its worth, just in case you don’t manage to finish” he sounded very serious and almost concerned in that sentence, a little too much though.
“well that seems suspicious, I though you were supposed to be the king of trickster, the ultimate ninja, the troll god!”
“well, just sayin’” he said as he plopped down next to her and started to spontaneously yell right next to her ear. After a few minutes of twilight thinking she might already be deaf, she yelled
“ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT WHAT THE HECK DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO!” she said as she looked at him with a stare much like the one he gave pinkie pie.
“well what would be the most obvious thing?” he said with a slight hint of glee in his voice.
“ well, lets plan our time accordingly. First, we should go to canter lot to see what major events happened while I was gone .”
“… you have only been gone for about 12 hours…” said death as he sheathed his scythe, acknowledging that he wouldn’t need it for some time.
“well murder isn’t exactly a common thing nowadays. Since the great equestrian war not a single pony has been murdered or killed in an way. Why do you think lawyers nowadays are going hungry?”
“that last part is actually really true. Since the last millennium more ponies have died of hunger, usually ponies that work in the legal system."
“see?” said twilight with a “bitch please” expression on her face
“perfect reason to go to canterlot. Maybe even visit Celestia. I mean, we are pretty darn close. I wonder if she even knows if I’m alive… anyways next I will go and visit each one of my friends to see if they had anything to do with me, all while trying to make you feel, um, happy? Actually all the while trying to make you feel any emotion at all, really. By then it will probably be late noon, plenty of time to figure the rest on my own!”
“ I really thought you planned better. That just sounds really bad and sloppy, but if that floats your boat, oh well…”
“yup, that’s my plan and I’m sticking to it!” she said as she slowly got up to her hoofs and trotted out the door. Death sighed and followed her.
“what you’re going to follow me all around while trying to find who or what killed me?”
“well, how else are you going to make me have feelings?”
“good point. So…”
“so?” asked death
“so can’t you like teleport us to canterlot or something?”
“honey the reason I put the time limit is to make you feel pressured. Plus I haven’t talked to any pony in ages (quite literally) and I kinda like to chit-chat”
“oh? A social death? Haven’t heard of that one!”
“well how many grim reapers have you met before twilight? What am I supposed to be like?!”
“good point, and well said” She said as she trotted towards a large mountain where a small piece of land protruded from it, were a long time ago, two alicorns decided to live a life there. They named it canterlot.
Chapter Three:The Two Sisters
A Day In My Life Without You
Chapter three: The Two Sisters
Twilight trotted towards the impending darkness that surrounded the majority of the tall cliff. The fact that is was on a cliff made it clear as day that Celestia clearly didn’t want any unsavory folks anywhere near the (possibly) only alicorns in existence.
“So, how exactly are we going to get up there?” asked death, shattering the silence twilight had brought with her since leaving her house.
“Easy,” said twilight sparkle as she walked towards the mountain.
It was so far away, but because of the gargantuan size of the elevated piece of rock, it seemed top be at trotting distance.
“hm, seems farther away then what I expected. Might take a while for me to show my wicked cool plan!”
“Who are you, rainbow dash?”
Twilight ignored his little comment and tried to steer the conversation into a more friendly approach.
“So, what do you do to kill time? I mean, sure you have a heavy weight to bear, but everyone must have a bit of down time here and there,” asked twilight as she turned her neck to the right to see if death even seemed to tolerate the question.
He isn’t the type of mare that would seem to talk about anything. He wasn’t shy, he was just not interested in social interaction.
“Well, since I’m usually very busy all the time, I rarely have time for myself. But when I do manage to find some time in my busy, busy schedule, I sit down.”
“Keep going…” said twilight, expecting something a bit more interesting to come out of his mouth.
‘I doubt he even has a mouth’ thought twilight.
“And, that’s it.”
“Seriously, THAT’S IT?! Wouldn’t you want to, I don’t know… torture some souls or something? I mean sitting down is okay, like for a minute or two, but for several hours?!”
Twilight looked at him with a pretty maniacal expression that, even death himself, thought of it as creepy.
“I never said how long… you really should lighten up, it’s just a small talk. No wonder you barely have any friends…”
That’s where twilight lost it.
She didn’t yell, she didn’t try to go and strangle him (“what’s the point?”) she simply sat down on her haunches and looked at him straight in the eye. Those eyes… they never seemed to stay one color, now that twilight looked closer. They went from magenta to hazel to indigo and back to magenta in a couple of seconds. She felt something bubbling up inside her. The similar feeling she had when she wrote on her notebook by the pond.
How could she have blown the fuse that easily? Does being dead affect your emotions? Maybe the stress had overcome her. She has said several times that this a matter of life or death, but this time, it was one hundred percent true.
“Look here, my friends may be few, but we treat each other with care and respect. They are the best friends anypony could have,” she said as she turned her head away from him and closed her eyes indignantly.
“ Oh really, so that’s what you think. The truth may sting, but really the only reason they befriended you in the first place was because you have contacts with Celestia! If it weren’t for you, fluttershy would be in a dungeon to the place were they banished her for thievery of royal artifacts, (“Philomena” he whispered) pinkie pie would be in the slammer for not inspecting her food properly, (“you know, the baked bad‘s” he whispered once again) rarity for nearly killing the wonder bolts, rainbow dash for kicking a cloud at her royal highness at the best flyers competition, and applejack for nearly starting another civil war between the appolosans and the buffalos! See? They all add up! Oh, and by the way, I’m not learning anything. I’m not even enjoying myself! Good luck getting spared!” He said as he put on his best troll face possible.
“That’s not true! They love me and respect me for who I am! Besides, at least I have friends!”
And with that, she got up and started towards the mountain that loomed in the horizon.
Death seemed shocked, petrified even. In a long time he hadn’t felt this type of emotion. This emotion was difficult to describe to him. He hadn’t felt it In such a long time that it seemed rather unreal to him. For the first time in several thousand years, he felt defeated. At a loss for words, he simply sat there, jaw hanging out.
“Wait up, wait up” he said, trotting swiftly towards her. She heard him, but didn’t give him much attention once he started talking.
“Look, I’m sorry to what I told you earlier, its just that…”
He noticed she had left a wet trail behind her and it didn’t look like it was going to stop anytime soon. It gushed out and to death it felt, delicious. That liquid that he savored most of all, that sweet sensation that filled his mouth whenever it slipped down his throat… it was unbearable to look at her and not get a tiny taste of that sweet, sweet nectar.
The tears kept rolling down her face and tickled whenever one was ready to fall.
“Are, are you crying?” Death asked, trying to contain his massive desire to just go and straight up lick her face.
“Shut up,” she said in between sobs as she turned head away.
“BWAH HA,HA,HA,HA! You girls ARE really sensitive! You cried for THAT? That one little lie that I pulled of, you ate that story up? Boy are you gullible! I thought you were smarter than that!” Twilight cried ever so harder now with those hurtful words death spat out at her. How COULD she have been so stupid as to fall for that? Something was wrong with her. Or, maybe, something was wrong with him?
“Mmmmmmmmm, those tears, they taste so good, mm the pain, YOUR PAIN it drives me to THIS!” He said as he eagerly licked her face in the most disgusting way possible.
It was by no means sexual, or even romantic. It was rough and gross, with his slobber all over her, he hungered for more and started licking the grass beneath their hooves.
Twilight saw in disgust as she wiped of the slobber that was let over as he licked the tiny trail of tears that had followed twilight all the way here. In way, twilight enjoyed death having a mental breakdown. To have what could have been the most feared pony, fell for tears? For her, tears always tasted salty and bitter. To him, it was probably the only pleasure he has had in a long time.
“Mmmh, MMMH!” He said as he smacked his lips in a taunting matter.
Seconds after his great tear rampage did he notice what a fool of himself he made in front of twilight. Sure, the feast he had just had was delicious, but it wasn’t worth this feeling. This odd feeling he had somehow remembered…
“I was, umm, I mean, uuh, what never happened to me, never happened to you, got it?”
“BWAHAHAHAH! YOU WOULD DO ALL THAT FOR TEARS?! BWAHAHAHAH! O, Celestia, this is awesome! BWAHAHAHAH!!!” She laughed at him for a good two minutes or so, finally able to calm down and sit up straight.
By now, death had been nearly oblivious to her laughter and simply lay on the grass, as far away as her as possible.
“Ready?” He said as he turned over to her, feeling that she was going to break into laughter once more.
This feeling, this was different feeling, no not pleasure, it wasn’t the feeling of loosing either, (but it felt awfully close to it.) he felt both ashamed and embarrassed to do such a thing. He felt his face burning hot. What? He was death! He couldn’t feel anything except pain and hoof-numbing coolness! Why this sudden surge in temperature?
“Ummm, twilight?” He asked as unassumingly as he could.
“What do you want?” She asked coldly, a clear sign that he probably wouldn’t be humiliated by her once more.
“Why did I suddenly feel hot? Like when you started laughing at me I felt, bad, really bad.”
“Whoa, dude, do you know about emotions?”
“Yeah, but its been a long time…. Besides I have only felt two emotions in many years. Pain and suffering. This is the first I have felt, you know, warm.”
“Let me explain, when you get embarrassed…”
Twilight started to explain how emotions sometimes not only affected us mentally, but physically too. A lot of explaining was needed to convince death that emotions do in fact, happen to everypony. The lecture was so long, that they somehow ended up by the cliff that held the castle in nearly no time at all.
“Okay, so you said you had a plan. What, is it exactly?” Said death.
Twilight was so certain, so cocksure that this was going to work that she didn’t even need to show him. She simply walked up to the steep side of the cliff and rammed into it, filling her whole head with pain and disappointment.
“Huh, wait, why didn‘t it work!? It was supposed to work!”
“Supposed to twilight. Supposed to,” answered death. Twilight looked at him, confused and in a world of pain.
“supposed is a very loose term and should only be used in very loose sentences.” (I remember getting detention for telling that to my English teacher in middle school. She was impressed with the bit of sense that made, but thought of it as back talk. They always think an answer like that is talk-back. Just sayin’-authors note)
“But WHY didn’t it work? I-I c’mon, it’s suppose to work! We are ghosts!” She said as she furiously rubbed her hoof on top of her noggin to help ease the pain a bit.
“Pfft, you believe in that legend? That ghosts can go throu-”
“YES! I believed it! I mean, if you have no body then…”
“No need for science here, my dear.”
“But please explain WHY!” She said as she rubbed even harder in her angst to both try to understand what was happening and ease the pain.
“Well, souls can’t go through walls, over in this world its kind of common knowledge…”
“Wait, so I cant talk to other ponies and I cant go through walls? Do someponies really spend all eternity this way? Well that blow-”
“Not really actually. You don’t exactly stay here when you die, but you don’t go anywhere else… its kind of complicated. Actually, I don’t even remember were you go after leaving this world. Huh, shows how much attention I paid when my boss explained all this.”
“Who is your boss anyways?”
“I can never tell his name. Rule and copyright infringement and stuff.”
“Copyright infringement? Are you serious?” She said as she rubbed her noggin harder.
“Actually, I never even have to refer to him as a pony. I just call him the powers that be” he said, ignoring twilights last comment and pointed a hoof up.
“Actually, I heard he is a really cool guy.”
“Hmph, HEARD”
“ Do you think I will get to meet him one day?”
“You will if you don’t hurry up! Its already two in the morning!” He said as he looked up at the moon to check if he was correct.
“Meh, kinda like two-twelve or something… Still got nothing on how we are going to get up there are we?”
“Oh, um, yeah. So, okay, um, I guess we could… umm, well, we are very close to a landing strip for flying vehicles, but
the princess rarely uses them.”
“Oh really? Well then I guess tonight is different!”
He pointed with his scythe at a pony-drawn carriage a few miles away. It was very big and needed several stallions just to hold the giant thing in place. It was white with gold streamers and had wheels of silver encrusted with beautiful diamonds the size of a little fillies head.
“Rarity would be jealous of those.” She said in her head as she eyed the diamonds greedily.
“Wow, good eye,” she said as she started to hurriedly trot over towards the carriage.
The carriage had little to no room inside, being that that both Celestia and Luna were lying down on the seats of the carriage.
“Guess we’ll take the back,” said twilight as she pointed a hoof towards the back of the carriage.
It was basically a piece of red metal strapped on to the carriage only to be used for transporting any goods the princesses may have at hoof.
“Do you really think this will support you?” He asked, inspecting carefully for anything out of place.
“Are you implying that I’m fat?” She shot a venomous look at death.
“No, no, not at all. It‘s just, it doesn’t look very safe… why would royalty be using such a putrid piece of junk anyway?!”
“Beats me. It’s fine. Besides it’s not like we can be anymore dead than what we are right now. What do we have to lose?”
“True” he said, hopping inside.
Twilight followed closely behind and closed the lid as quietly as she could. They could hear light chattering inside the red metal box they were in. twilight put her ear against the wall so she could hear better what they were saying.
“I can’t believe how tired I am” said Celestia.
There was a small metallic cling noise right afterwards.
Twilight turned to face death excitedly and said “She is taking of her horseshoes, ooh, I’ve never seen her without those, what do you think she looks like without those?!”
Despite the darkness inside the box, you could still see deaths white pupils in the darkness making a rolling motion and blinking a couple of times.
“Wouldn’t she look the same? And really, I couldn’t care less. Besides, its not like I will ever see her again. Not that I wish to see her.” he said coldly as he lowered his head and closed his eyes.
“ Why do you ha- oooooh, I get it, you just jealous she has more power than you!”
“Am not! Its just I don’t agree with her.”
“Oh, come on! You and me both know u jelly!”
“You must have to much internet in your life to say that outside hoof-chan! Get a life kid! And besides, if you don‘t know what or why I hate her that is my business and mine alone. I don’t need another brat to tell me love and tolerance! Screw those people that think I need that to become happy in life! Screw you! Screw her! Screw all of equestria!” He turned even farther away from her.
“Watch your word," she said as she tried to out-yell death. "If they find any sort of noise inside, they will immediately think it’s a spy or something and go without this metal box!”
“Tsk, tsk,” he said as he slowly shook his head and a wide grin appeared in his face.
“you really need to learn to use your inside voice!” he whispered loudly as he pressed his own ear against the side of the metal box.
“Did you hear that noise? It sounded like yelling!” said Luna as she got up from her seat. Twilight could tell she was pretty scared too, as her hoof steps trotted nervously around the carriage.
“What if they sent somebody to kill me!” she said, trotting at an even faster pace know.
“Now, now, you know all the citizens love you, they wouldn’t do such a thing like that. Besides, there hasn’t been a case in where a citizen dies, much less a princess in like a thousand years.”
“L-let me check the trunk, just to be sure.”
twilight heard the creak of the carriage door being opened, followed by a very official voice saying
“Halt! We are under strict restrictions to not let anypony enter and/or leave!” he order
“But I just came to check the trunk… okay.” she said
“Wow, for a minute there, she sounded like fluttershy. Like right when she said okay. Maybe she is just shy and scared to be interacting with someone other than her own sister…” twilight said to death
“Did you hear that?!” said luna, anxious to see if there was indeed something or someone there.
“I heard well enough. I guess someone with you’re authority can go. I am ever so sorry I doubted you.” They heard the sudden unfurling of wings followed by two thundering hoof steps, a sign that he was moving.
“But I will accompany you!” he said bravely
“I rise then moon everyday, making sure that each and every pony has a good nights rest. You simply stand around all day with the occasional donut . I think I can handle a couple of naughty children.”
“Or serial killer!” he added as luna started to walk towards the back trunk.
“Step aside.” were her final words to him.
“Harsh.” twilight whispered. They soon saw a crack appear through the small door, with light starting to slowly creep into the small box. Twilight soon saw Luna’s eye, followed by her face and soon enough the hoof she was using to open the trunk.
They were invisible, of course, but the slightest peep, the smallest of noise, the tiniest of breaths, could give them away and then they would probably leave the red box there. I mean, there was nothing in here. Why did they have it here? It doesn’t look very stylish either. Twilight saw luna look over the red box. It was particularly small, about the size of a bathtub, so not much inspection was necessary.
“But I was so sure I heard something…” luna muttered to herself.
“Everything alright princess?” asked the royal guard.
“Mmmh, yes everything is fine.” she said as she glanced over some more. Then, it seemed that luna looked directly at them. It was an odd feeling. It really did seem that she could see them, she even squinted as to take a closer look at twilight. Then she closed the lid and trotted back inside.
“I guess nothing was there.”
“I told you sis! See, 1,000 years on the moon really did effect you. Time to go!” she ordered at the line of male pegasi that controlled the carriage.
“Alright men! One, two three, GO!” barked the one in the very front. He looked pretty old, but strong for his age. Like if you were to put big Mac and granny smith together. The two ponies in the back, where having a pretty rough time. They kept shouting ‘watch it!’ and ‘go to your side!’ it was pretty funny to hear them argue over really dumb stuff like who got the red side of the saddle.
“Ouch, hey, watch it!” said twilight as she tried to make herself as small as possible so she wouldn’t bump into stuff as much.
“I’m trying, but my stupid scythe is in the way!” he said as he thrashed back and forth in the darkness to put the scythe in a comfy position.
“Umm, unicorn magic. You do have it, right?” twilight pointed out.
“Oh, right” said death, embarrassed that he hadn’t thought of that before. He used telepathy to take out the scythe and place it next to him. The slow rumbling soon turned into a soft rocking motion, meaning that they were possibly going slower. The silence was odd and awkward.
Twilight usually had a thing or two to say about science, or the world, or anything really but right now, she felt at a loss for words. She felt peace within. Sure, the fact that she was next to death was a bit disturbing, and this cold sensation that never left her body started to numb her whole body, but somehow, she felt like it was all going to be okay.
Twilight heard snoring. She immediately looked at death, but he just stared back with his cold stare that would give fluttershy a run for her money. He was quite obviously awake.
‘The princesses must be sleeping’ thought twilight.
“So, why exactly do you hate the princess? I was just teasing back then, but curiosity got the best of me. Is it that you simply hate her, she is pretty mean, a tyrant maybe. I just want to know.” she whispered to him, breaking the everlasting silence between the two.
“It’s a very long and twisting story of no importance to you. Mind your own business if you know what’s good for you” he said as he glanced down at his scythe laying on the floor.
“Well jeez, sorry for trying to start a conversation, you know it’s a long way from to the castle, right?”
“My flank” he said as he laid down and tried to stay close to the floor, expecting something to happen. The carriage lurched to a sudden halt and twilight heard some chattering from the princess.
“That’s our cue to bail!” said twilight, crawling over to the door. She tried to pry open the door with her bare hoofs but the door wouldn’t budge. “hey, it wont open, what gives?” she said as she pushed the door as much as her little hooves could.
“You do know that this opens from the outside right?”
“Uhh, I knew that.” twilight said, ceasing all action to open the door. She stared at death as she lifted her left eyebrow and nudged her head towards the door.
“If you are using some type of body language, you of all people know I cant see very well in this very dark place.” the smugness in that sentence alone made twilight immediately think of the many sarcastic comments made by Gilda the griffon, and then pinkie pie defeating her with that party. Thinking that she would never see her again made her well up with sadness, but now was not the time to be reminiscing the future. If she really wanted to go back, she would need all the courage, determination, and power that she could muster up.
“Just open the damn door.” twilight said, suddenly snapping back into reality. Her uncooperative partner grudgingly used his unicorn magic to open the door.
“Wait, not so much, a little bit!” she said as she pulled the door inwards and squinted through the small crack of the door. She saw luna chatting to some civilians,(probably about why they were out so late) mane waving and glowing in the air. She seemed quite beautiful with her hair like that. Watching her at night seemed just, right in a way. Luna nodded to the unknown ponies and walked away.
“Now!” she whispered as they crept out the small box. They were right in front of the royal palace, where candles glowed outside under the same moon twilight had lost her consciousness only hours ago.
“Well, that was easy. Haha, yea, oh, and wait until we go through the magic door that leads to the meeting room. Then it will be twice as easy! You know, because its so easy to beat one celestia’s spells!”
“Oh, shut up.” she said as she started to walk towards the great big door, up the flights of stairs. The castle seemed to be purple at night, not its usual white glow that seemed so pretty under the sun.
“What, I’m not joking. Only one pony ever got through the door, but he was stupid and too blinded by power. That old sap kicked the bucket pretty soon after he forced his way through the door.”
“And how would you know all this?”
“Um, I’m death. I practically know everyone’s death, and how they got killed.”
“What about me?”
“The reason you are still alive is because I didn’t reap your soul fast enough. I only have so much time before you turn into, well, this. This has actually never happened in like, a thousand years. Not since the great war, that is.”
Twilight looked at him, then stared back at the door.
“Depending on what time of the day it is, the castle of canterlot will change colors, depending in what mood the princesses are.” she said, as if ignoring his last story.
“Did you memorize that from a textbook?”
“yup!” she beamed as she trotted up towards the great big balcony that seemed to tower over the main six floors of the castle
“And people ask why you couldn’t make friends…” she simply rolled her eyes. If she were in a different situation, she would probably cry her eyes out and strat to hurt ihm and much as she could. (due to her awkwardness with social interaction)
But being around such a negative, mean person made her almost invulnerable to the things he had to say to her. She simply shrugged of the comment and kept going on with her life. (or at least what she thought was left of it) Her world wasn’t going to end because of that comment. Death seemed to be noticing this to, and felt that maybe she was more than meets the eye…
They walked down a long, narrow hallway that was chockfull of different rooms sporting different names each. No, not normal equestrian names, but something along the lines of “sergeant” and “general.” There seemed to be a lot with the name troops. To avoid confusion, they had put an alias under it. Like troop one-o-seven, or troop F.Y.I. there were some pretty funny names. (as naughty as they were.) I guess it just goes to show how much time they had in their hooves nowadays.
After that long corridor, at the end, there was a door that read
‘meeting in session. Please knock’
“We could just, you know, open it with brute force.” said death staring at the door.
“Wow, goes to show how much attention to detail you put. Rarity would be disgusted at you.” said twilight. She notice a small piece of metal jutting out from the middle of the door. It was square with a small, thin crack in the middle.
“hmm, somebody must have gone in be force. Looks pretty bad too. Must have been powerful magic. No wonder the princess luna looked a little paranoid there. Okay, do your job.”
“Huh, me, why?”
“You ARE the only one that can do any magic. Go for it”
“But you need a specific spell to open it, only three ponies in all of equestria know that spell. Who are alive, anyway.” there was a small tremble beneath their hooves. Soon the two ponies heard loud, thundering hoof steps growing louder by the second. They twirled around to see what on Earth could be making such a racket. It was Celestia, who looked furious , while luna was whispering something in her ear.
“Impossible, simply impossible!” she yelled. Twilight had never seen her so angry before. Her body glowed a raging green, a clear indication that her body was quite literally expelling magic from everywhere in her body.
“How can this be? Nearly thousands of years planning, and I get this!?” she fumed as she approached the door rather hastily.
“Are you absolutely sure?” she said, turning to luna.
“I am sorry to say dear sister, it is all true.” said luna, who looked truly sorry for what had happened. Celestia tried to jam her horn inside the gate lock. It opened with a loud creak. Light poured the room that was held inside those thick doors. Twilight and death quickly followed.
“Light the candles and call only the most important ponies in all of equestria!”
“… But I’m not your manager sis…”
“Do you want to spend one-thousand more years no the moon?!” she raged. Luna sighed.
“I’ll go get the parchment.” she said with a gloomy look on her face
“Thought so” she said with a satisfied look on her face.
“now, I wait.” she said as she placed her flank on a pillow.
“ahhh, much bett- LUNA, I TOLD YOU TO LIGHT THE GOSH FORSAKEN CANDLES!”
“Go to it yourself you lazy bitch!”
“What did she say?” asked twilight to death. He simply shrugged
“What, I couldn’t hear you! Ah, doesn’t matter, I’ll do it myself.”
A small ember appeared from her horn. It danced on it for quite a while. Soon it started to whirl around. Faster and faster it went with each revolution until suddenly, it went flying off into the other candles, igniting each one as it passed by. In a way, it seemed as if the flame was dancing with the candles.
It weaved through here, zipped through there. It kind of reminded twilight of rainbow dash. Suddenly, it popped and settled itself in the middle of the dining table serving as the main source of light.
The room was enormous with a giant table in the middle. Celestia seemed to be at one extreme of the table, while the other extreme had a dark purple pillow, clearly indicating Luna’s designated spot.
“Luna must sit on the other end.” whispered twilight to death
“So, do we wait for something to happen, or.”
“Goodness, look at the time!” twilight pointed to a clock mounted on a piece of wood jutting out at the far east of the room.
“But they all read ‘pony’ .” this was in fact true. Instead of having actual numbers, they seemed to be all replaced with the word pony.
“Nuh-uh.” she said, shaking her head “its three a clock in the morning, silly!”
“A-are you sure?” he said as he looked at her as thought she had been on mushrooms for a while.
“Yes, I’m pretty sure I know my numbers. I went to magic kindergarten long enough. Looooooooooooooong enough.” she said with a grim look on her face.
“Your science baffles me.” he said with an unamused look in his face.
“There! They are all sent!” luna said as she entered the room. She set her flank down on the other end of the table.
“What do you think you are doing? We are going to have guests! Take a seat, any other seat, besides that one.”
“Okay then.” said luna. She trotted over to a seat next to Celestia.
“Well, I GUESS that’s an… okay seat.” she said in disgust.
“Hahaha, you were always the joker in your class, weren’t you sis?”
“…I didn‘t say anything funny, did I?…” she said grimly
“Oh, uhh, well then…” luna was cut short by the sound of knocking on the door.
“Wait here,” said Celestia as she got up from her pillow.
Twilight noticed it was red bordered with golden silk. Very beautiful. Luna’s was, well… let’s just say you could buy it at the 99 bit store.
Celestia unlatched the door and in poured in various ponies from around the world. Twilight knew all of them, she had read them in a book titled Modern Equestrian Innovators and Worldwide Changers.
“That is presidente calderon.” she pointed her hoof to a brown mare shaking celestia’s hoof. “He lives I a very peculiar part of equestria. The ponies there speak a different language and its somewhat hot over there, that’s the reason most of them are quite tan, if not brown. They also use different currency. I forget whats It called though…”
“Why do I need to know this?”
“Why? did you learn something?”
“… Twilight I am death. I know everyone and everything. You need to put that inside that tiny little head of yours.”
“Whatever.” she said.
Twilight and death had to sit in a little corner close to the table, to be able to hear what was going on.
“Ahem!” Celestia said as she looked at a chef nearby. He (or she?!) had its mane fairly short, but had its bangs hanging very low, covering most if its face. It looked very young. Too young to even be working, much less with the princess.
“Something spicy. Anything is good.” the brown filly (or mare?) nodded and quickly conjured up something with her horn at a nearby stove.
“It smells, DELICIOUS!” said twilight as she nearly lunged towards the food that was being served in expensive-looking china.
“ Good luck figuring out a way to eat food without being able to touch solid objects or use magic. Jus’ sayin’.” she immediately stopped in her tracks and looked at him with a lazy glare with one of her eyebrows up.
“Are you kidding me?”
“You never get hungry anyways, come on, sit here. We can’t do much else but wait and listen.”
“But it smells SO GOOD!” death didn’t reply to that. He just rhythmically tapped his hoof on the yellow carpet.
“Fine.” she said, rolling her eyes and sitting down, desperate to just go straight up and eat all that food in one fell swoop.
“Tho,” said Celestia, with her mouth full of food, barely able to distinguish her language because of this.
“Today we hath *gulp found out something that we were very afraid that it might happen. We have planned for this for more than a hundred years in case of an emergency. I‘m afraid we will have to use the plan.” several forks and spoons clanged against the china. Many started talking to one another in a hushed whispered tone.
“There was a murder, but that’s not the interesting part. What’s interesting is that we have had reports of, errrr, of her sightings, but after her death.”
“That’s impossible!” yelled somepony whom twilight instantly recognized.
“First off, there hasn’t been murdered in like, a thousand years! Then your telling me ponies have seen the living dead walk among us!” said a female pony with a pink coat much like pinkie pie’s.
“Actually, maybe she’s not dead, what if she feigned death!” said a short and stout pony, his head barely visible over the tabletop.
“Why would anypony try to kill someone?!” the whole room broke into a loud outrage, until Celestia stamped her hoof on the ground
“Quite everypony! What’s worse, is that it was twilight who has been spotted moments after death.” the room grew silent, and for a very tense second, it seemed that luna was once again staring at them.
“If so, then that means our plans, have been for nothing.”
“What plans?” asked luna to Celestia. Celestia just stayed quite for a few seconds, and slowly turned her head towards her.
“We are having A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING HERE, LUNA! IF YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING, I DON’T THINK YOU SHOULD PARTAKE IN SUCH ACTIVITIES!”
Celestia’s seemingly random outburst made twilight cower in fear, even if the comment was directed towards her. Surprisingly, the other ponies didn’t seem to mind the raise in volume. They all passed it off as if it was something that Celestia did every time. They simply stared at luna to see what her reaction was going to be.
Luna responded “B-b-but I am a princess too! I deserve to learn what this ‘plan’ is!”
Celestia seemed to be furious at this point.
“B-b-but I am a princess toooooo!” she mocked.
“Oh, shut up. We all now the real reason you’re her is because YOU WERE A MERE ACCIDENT FORM MOM AND DAD! I WAS THE ONE THAT WAS INTENDED TO RULE THIS WORLD AS PERFECTLY AS POSSIBLE!”
Twilight turned her head to stare at luna. Her eyes seemed to be really shiny and full of color. Soon, a tear rolled down her cheek as she looked at celestia.
“I thought we were sisters!” she said in between sobs.
“Oh! We are sisters!” she said in a particularly cheery tone that sounded quite, disturbing.
“yeah, we ARE sisters, aren’t we!” the other ponies in the meeting did not stop her, they were only watching the action unfold. They weren’t part of this, were they? I mean, they were just, bystanders.
“Well I DON’T THINK THAT US BEING SISTERS WILL MAKE EQUESTRIA HAPPY! WILL IT FEED OUR PEOPLE, WILL IT ORGANIZE TAXES, WILL IT FIX THIS PROBLEM WE HAVE AT HOOF?! I THINK NOT!” she was out of breath.
As she was about to say that word, it seemed she savored every moment she spent torturing her poor little sister. Death knew this feeling especially. Luna at this point couldn’t take it. She simply cried noisily until her sister blurted out those words that she one day promised she would never again say.
“I HATE YOU!” she yelled on the top of her lungs. With raw emotional unicorn power alone, Luna flipped the table upside-down and lit the rug as if by, errr, magic. She opened the door as fast as she could (so their guests couldn’t see her suffer anymore than what they already saw) and she ran to her room.
“Lets go.” said twilight
“Huh, wait, why?”
“To prove something,” twilight always had that knack to find out the meaning stuff, even if it meant going to extremes, like using pinkie pie as an experiment model and other stuff like that.
Luna felt that each tear burned her cheeks. She felt as that as the tears rolled down, they left a scar were they trickled. The color of each tear meant how much luna cared for Celestia or all of equestria even. Blank, nothing at all, absolutely nothing.
She found a big door were there was a huge metal sign saying. “luna, celestia’s little sister.” She felt like ripping apart that sign, and flinging it at Celestia, making a clean cut through her neck, and she would stay there just to see her life being wiped from her eyes. It felt so good in her mind.
All that blood gush out of her head, making a huge puddle beneath her hoofs.
She would then finally be lonely, free at last of the eternal curse she was born with. She shook her head. How could she be thinking that? Much less of her own sister?
Actually, the real question remained to be seen: why on earth did she act that way?
Sure, she can annoying sometimes, she admits that much, but to be yelled at in front of all those ponies? Never in all her life did she except this.
She flung open the door to her bedroom, crying while her face was being plastered amongst the pillow. Her bed wasn’t anything to special. It was just a plain white bed made of satin surrounded by walls painted in purple. It didn’t look fancy, but it was beautiful nevertheless.
“Should we do something?” asked twilight to death. He wasn’t listening. He just stared at her, seemingly enthralled in what the princess was doing.
“oh no you don’t!” said twilight as she kicked death in the lower part of his jaw.
“Ow, what was that for?!”
“Oh, I know you more than you know yourself.”
“…But we have only met for like, what, three hours?”
“You were gonna rush in and lick her face!”
“n-n-no, no I wasn’t in fact!”
“Yeah, sure, whatever.” said twilight
“No but seriously, what DO we do?” said death, trying to move the subject matter.
“I don’t know, see if she can see us?”
“Brilliant!” said twilight as she rushed over to the edge of the bed
“No, wait, I was joking!”
“To late for me!” said twilight as she nudged luna.
“what *sob do you*sob want?!”
“Ummm, uh, its me.”
“There are a lot of me’s.” she said sarcastically
“T-twilight sparkle.”
“I should have never ratted you out.”
“Uh, wait, WHAT!”
“Yeah, I can see you.” she said as she turned over to face twilight sparkle.
“Really?” she said.
“Yes, right now you have a quizzical expression on you’re face.”
“Oh, wow, hey, come over here!”
Luna looked around the room, expecting for there to be somepony else.
“Who, me?” she said as she pointed a hoof at her.
“No, him!” she said as she pointed a hoof towards a corner.
“Err, I just see a corner.”
“So you can only see me, huh? Oh, and hear me too.”
“Oh, so you simply accept the fact that I can see the dead?”
“you know, at this point, if somebody said that apples are drugs wouldn’t really surprise me at all. Just, no. The only bothering me is why cant you see him?”
“Oooh, so it’s a mare?”
“NOT what you’re thinking. He is simply a frie-”
“A partner” he added
“Fine! A partner that will help me through my journey”
“Aid, did he just say something?” asked luna, looking around the room, as if she was missing something.
“So it seems you cant hear him either…”
“Well no shit, Sherlock.”
“Shut up.” she said, exasperated and tired of his sarcasm.
“Huh, umm cool I guess?”. Twilight isn’t the one to try to make new friends, so the silence that followed seemed to perturb her more than usual.
Death was just sitting down, enjoying the great view the balcony had to offer, and luna just lay down, trying to choke back her tears.
“That’s it.” luna said, finally deciding to get up and walked towards the balcony.
“What’s up?” asked twilight, glad that they had something to discuss other than ‘how fine the weather was.’
“I’m going. Leaving her behind.”
“Who, Celestia?”
“If she doesn’t care for me, then I don’t care for her. As simple as that. You coming twilight? And death, wherever the buck you are."
“Oh my!” said twilight. She wasn’t used to being exposed to much foul language, much less from a princess.
“Now SHE speaks my language!” said death as he went by her side and put a hoof on her shoulder. Suddenly, luna started shivering.
“Is it cold in here, or…?”
“Nah, death just touched you.”
“Yeah.” he said
“some people say it’s an urban legend, that you get shivers from natural causes. Strange enough its actually true, one of the few myths that are actually true, might I add.”
“Umm, she can’t hear you…”
“Oh, woops, right.”
If his face was showing, he would probably be flushing a bright red, but being that he was both dead and basically never showed his face, it (thankfully) wasn’t noticeable.
“Wait, aren’t you going to pack up?”
“No, don’t you have something to do, places to go? I would really appreciate some company… one thousand years on the moon can really roughen up someone’s social skills.”
“Okay!” she said.
She noticed luna particularly fragile with this. The only pony that ever cared for her treated her very badly, and she seemed so lost, with nowhere else to go. Twilight felt very sorry for her. Death however, didn’t seem to share his hatred the same way he did for Celestia. At least, not in the few minutes they were together.
“Don’t worry luna, I plan to go to rarity’s place for a while, investigate a little. Look, the sun is coming up!” she pointed at the very horizon were miles and miles of water and sand could be seen. The sunlight barely kissed the top of earth, yet the water seemed to be glowing as magnificently as if it was noontime.
“So, beautiful.” said twilight, exasperated with eyes glowing with glee.
“Yeah, amazing.” said luna in an arrogant tone much like Gilda the griffon’s. She rolled her eyes and sighed.
“So are we going to rarity’s place? Or what?”
“Oh, uhh, yeah, sorry for getting a bit distracted there.” she smiled sheepishly and looked at her. Luna wasn’t looking at the sun. Not even at her. She just stared at her hoofs, kicking the dry cobblestone floor.
“Why are we going over there, anyways?” asked luna, keeping her eyes on her hoofs without blinking.
“Well, umm, it’s a long story, and it will probably only take longer to walk over there, so this is my story…” she siad as they started to jump one by one out of the balcony. The ivy that surrounded the balcony made for a great ladder.
-----------------------------six hours later----------------------
“Luna?” asked Celestia as she knocked on the door with her hoof.
It was closed shut. Only luna and the spell master knew the spell to open the door. Even her little sister sometimes needs her privacy once in a while.
“Look luna, I’m sorry, very sorry for yelling at you. I feel really bad for what happened. Just, I was stressed, I didn’t know what I was doing, just please, open up.” she truly did sound apologetic.
“Luna? Come on. Please? Stop being childish. This is serous business, all of equestria counts on you!” she was starting to get angry and frustrated.
All that anger she felt yesterday started to swirl back inside her, poured into her stomach, and came out her mouth.
“LUNA, I’M YOUR BIG SISTER AND I RESPECT YOUR PRIVACY, BUT BEING THAT IM OLDER I AM COMING IN ANYWAY!” she said.
She knew her lock wasn’t nearly as powerful as the one that held the discussion room/dining hall shut. She used a buffer up spell and charged towards the door. A clean cut was made right through the lock.
“Luna? She said as she realized she wasn’t anywhere to be found.
“Luna! It isn’t funny!” as fast as the anger came, it just, went away. Gone. She started to feel scared. What if she killed herself? Oh, what a horrible thing to think!
“She must be at the balcony!” she thought out loud.
She went outside. Nope. She wasn’t there, or anywhere for that matter. She just disappeared. Gone.
She looked out at the balcony, and wondered were she could possibly be. She looked outside at the sun. it was smack dab in the middle of the clear, blue sky. Noontime.
