Star Fox Armada: The Equestrian Missions
Chapter 1: What Remains
All was quiet in the Lylat System. The terrible war between the Cornerian Army and Andross's imperial force was finally over....thanks to General Pepper's 'Ace in the Hole.' He walked around his command room, watching his advisers and assistants examine the space around their planet Corneria. All was quiet....it was almost uncomfortably quiet.....It had been a long time since Corneria had experience peace....it seemed almost alien to General Pepper. He was used to office workers and soldiers running in and out of his command room, telling him the status of the war with the maniacal scientist Andross.....Andross...what a terrible villain. What was once a brilliant mind had turned into the shattered psyche of a power-mad lunatic. General Pepper sighed....how could such an esteemed scientist become something so evil? Pepper shook the thought from his head, and stared at one of the many monitors. Empty space.....no battle-ships, no star-fighters...no explosions....a sight he hadn't seen for a long time....General Pepper sat down in his command chair. Peace wouldn't be too hard to get used to.....would it? It was then that there was a beeping heard from one of the many computer consoles in the command room. "Uh...Sir?" One of the computer workers, a cat, turned to him. "We've detected something you might want to have a look at..."
The General stood up from his command chair, and looked at the worker's computer monitor. "Yes? What is it?" He asked.
"We seem to have detected remnants of Andross's troops....they seem to be migrating towards an unknown planet..." The worker briefed him.
"Unknown?" Pepper asked.
"Yes sir." The worker responded. "Unknown. We know nothing of the planet, nothing about it's atmospheric conditions, nothing about if it's habited, nothing. Why the remains of Andross's force is there, I don't know."
"Well, for what ever reason," The General said. "It can't be good! Call the team."
The worker nodded. "Yes sir!"
The Great Fox, the star-ship/base of operations for the Star Fox team, was cruising through space. Sitting on the bridge, were the team members. Peppy Hare, Star Fox veteran, and First Officer of the Great Fox, stood next to the command chair.
He held a hand to his wrinkled chin in thought. After all these years...Andross had been defeated, and he was apart of the team that made it happen. Peppy had a personal vendetta against Andross....as he was apart of the first Star Fox team, consisting of him, a treacherous hog named Pigma Dengar, and James McCloud, late father of the team's current leader. Andross had somehow twisted Pigma's mind, cauysing him to betray James and Peppy during their mission on planet Venom, Andross's former base of operations. Peppy managed to escape, but James wasn't so lucky. But now, James had been avenged, Andross was gone, and life for Peppy couldn't be better. Sitting over watching the engineering monitors, was Slippy Toad, the team's Mechanic and Engineer.
Slippy was the youngest member of the team, and the most optimistic. Sure, he wasn't the strongest pilot, but he was unmatched when it came to mechanics and engineering. Whenever the Arwings, Star Fox's trademark star fighters needed repairs, Slippy could have it done in a matter of minutes.
Sitting over in the navigation officer's chair, was Falco Lombardi, the second best pilot of the Star Fox team.
Falco was a nice enough guy, but before joining Star Fox, he was a Cornerian Flight Academy dropout, and a common criminal, stealing from merchant ships, beating people up for money, and so fourth. It wasn't until he agreed to joint he Star Fox team when he gave up his criminal ways. Now he served as one of the team's best fighter pilots, Always racking up the highest number of downed bogeys in a mission.
Sitting over in the communications chair, was Krystal, the newest member of the team, and the resident Telepath.
Before she was found by the team, Krystal was a native of the planet Cerinia, however, she was found on the dinosaur planet of Sauria, which is inhabited by Dinosaurs. Krystal is no ordinary fox, however, for she possesses powers of telepathy. She has the ability to read minds, and emotions, and has proven to be a valuable asset to the Star Fox team.
And finally, sitting in the captain's chair, was Fox McCloud. Current leader of the Star Fox commandos, and Captain of the Great Fox.
Fox was outraged at the Cornerian Government for refusing to do anything about his Father being captured by Andross, and as a result, dropped out of the Cornerian flight academy, along with his two best friends, Falco Lombardi and Slippy Toad. Under the guidence of Peppy, who served as a father figure for Fox, he started a new Star Fox team, which had accomplished more than the first team ever could. They had made it to Venom, and Fox had defeated Andross by himself, avenging his father. But....something strange happened after the battle. Andross was going to blow up his own headquarters, killing himself, and taking Fox with him....but...someone appeared to save Fox....it was his father, James....but he disapered as soon as Fox escaped....had he imagined it? Or was his father really....still alive? Fox would have to talk to Krystal about this later....that was another thing....Fox had been growing closer to Krystal ever since they solved the situation on Planet Sauria.....He had begun to have...certain feelings for her....he dare not think about it though, for he knew Krystal could read minds, and he wasn't ready to tell her. Just then, a beeping came from Krystal's terminal.
"Someone's hailing us." She said, her voice had a slight English accent.
"Message from General Pepper." Peppy's mechanical assistant ROB-64 announced. "Priority One."
"Huh?" Slippy asked. "Why would the General be contacting us? We beat Andross, didn't we?"
Falco smirked. "Maybe he wants to increase our pay for getting the job done as a thank you!"
Peppy shook his head. "I doubt that." He rasped. "Not if it's Priority One."
"Bring it up on screen, Krystal." Fox said.
She nodded, and answered the hail. A hologram of the wrinkled general appeared before the team. "Star Fox!" he said. "I know you've been wanting a break, but I'm afraid I have one more mission for you."
Fox nodded. "What's the problem, General?" He asked.
"Our scanners have detected remnants of Andross's troops near an unidentified planet." The General briefed them. "These forces consist of one flagship, Captained by Andrew Oikonny, Andross's nephew." An image of the evil nephew appeared on the screen.
"Yeesh, I think I know now why he left Star Wolf...." Falco said with an irritated tone.
"The force also consists of three squadrons of star fighters, and two squadrons of bombers." Pepper said. "I want you to go and investigate. Whatever reason they're orbiting this planet, it can't be good. I'll pay you double what we payed you to destroy Andross."
Fox shook his head. "No need, General. We'll take our usual fee."
"What?!" Falco exclaimed. "You're turning down double the credits?!"
Fox shook his head. "Falco, we're not in it for the money."
Falco shook his head as well. "Right, Right, we're in it for the safety of Corneria, blah blah blah." He groaned, having heard this speech before.
"Perhaps Oikonny is trying to set up a base on this planet? So he can increase his numbers and rebuild his Uncle's empire?" Krystal suggested.
Peppy nodded. "It could be....but we can't let that happen!"
"We accept the mission, General!" Fox exclaimed.
Pepper nodded. "Very well. I'm sending you the coordinates now."
Just then, the image of General Pepper disappeared, an image of the planet's coordinates taking its place. "Hey!" Slippy said. "It's not too far off! We can get there in no time!"
Peppy nodded. "That's right...and time is something we can't waste! Fox, you and the others prep your Arwings. ROB and I will keep watch from here."
Fox nodded. "Right! Let's go team!"
Fox, Slippy, Falco, and Krystal all ran out of the command room, and down the hallway to the hanger, where their Arwings were waiting. Arwings were state of the art Star Fighters, provided to them by General Pepper personally. They come equipped with devices called G-Defusers, which reduce the number of Gs exerted on their pilots. Back in the days before G-Defusers were invented, pilots used to amputate their lower legs and replace them with Cybernetics to keep the blood from rushing to their feet, but now there was no need for this. The team quickly jumped into their Arwings.
"All wings, check your G-Defuser System!" Fox said through the communications channel.
"Falco here. G-Defusers are fine." Falco announded.
"Slippy here! All systems go!" He exclaimed as he settled down in his seat.
"This is Krystal. G-Defuser is online." She said.
Fox nodded. "Alright! Peppy, are we there yet?" He asked.
"Andrew's flagship is in view! be careful, guys! He has quite a hefty force!" Peppy advised.
Fox nodded. "Alright! Let's rock and roll!" The hangar opened up, and the four Arwings engines activated, and they all raced out into space.
"Alright! They know we're here! Everyone scatter!" Fox said through the comlink, causing the team to break out of their V-Formation.
"Fox! I've got an enemy on my tail! I can't shake him! Take him out!" Slippy shouted, an enemy fighter following him from behind.
"Jeez, Slip, already?!" Falco asked.
"It's alright, I got him!" Fox Pulled the triggers on his Arwing controls, firing off two shots, crippling the enemy fighters engines.
"Thanks Fox! It won't happen again!" Slippy said.
"Fox!" Peppy contacted them from the Great Fox. "ROB has hacked into the enemy communications!"
"Let me hear it, Peppy!" Fox said.
"Sir!" One of Andrew's soldiers had said. "Star Fox is hear!"
"GAH!!" Oikonny shouted. He sounded particularly afraid. "What are they doing here?! Take them out! Get rid of them! I don't care how you do it!"
"Sounds like we've got him spooked!" Falco taunted through his comlink.
"Let's not underestimate him." Fox said. "Let's focus on taking care of his forces!"
"FOX! LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!" Krystal shouted.
"What?!" Fox almost immeadiately went to check his scanners, but it was too late. Something had impacted his Arwing. "AGH!! I'm hit!"
"Fox!" Slippy shouted. "You're engines are down! You need to go back to the Great Fox!"
"I'll do the best I can...." Fox said, trying to work with the broken engines. Just then, a nasally laugh came through the comlink. "Oikonny!" Fox said through gritted teeth.
"Hahaha!" The Tyrant's Nephew laughed. "You thought I wouldn't be prepared for such an attack! I was more than willing to jump into the fray myself! And look what came of it! The once mighty Star Fox, defeater of Andross, beaten my ME!! Andross's heir!"
"Yadda Yadda Yadda, do you ever shut up!?" Falco jeered.
"W-Watch your mouth, bird!" Oikonny spat. "Now I'll finish the job! Say goodbye to your beloved leader!" He fired another volley of fire at Fox's Arwing, sending him spiraling down toward the unidentified planet.
"FOX!!!" Krystal shouted. She was just about to fly after him, when Peppy's voice was heard on the comlink.
"Krystal, what are you doing!?" He asked.
"We can't just leave him!" Krystal pleaded.
"Fox is a trooper, he'll survive the crash! For now, we have a job to do! We can find Fox later!" Peppy exclaimed.
Reluctantly, Krystal turned her fighter away from the planet, back into the battle.
Peppy wanted more than anything to find Fox....he was like a son to him...but they still had a job to do...Peppy knew Fox would survive....he'd been through worse......
Twilight had woken up early that morning. But not of her own will. She was awoken by Spike, her baby dragon assistant. Strange...Spike was never up before her....something must have been wrong. "Twilight!" He shouted. "Twilight, wake up!"
"Ugh...Spike....can't it wait?" The Unicorn looked at the clock. "It's four o'clock on the mourning! Applejack's not even up yet!" Spike shook his head vigorously. "No! This is serious! C'mon! Get up! Get up!"
Twilight sat up in her bed, when she felt an odd sensation in her back. She looked back. It was just her wings, poking her bedframe. She had almost forgotten she had become an Alicorn Princess. However, she had moved back to Ponyville briefly just for a temporary vacation. "Where's the fire, Spike?"
"You just have to come see! Come on! Come on!" Twilight hopped out of bed and followed the baby dragon out of the tree-house. Twilight was hoping to get some studying done today, but no, apparently what Spike was ranting about was much more important. Spike had lead them to the outskirts of the small village. Why would Spike drag her out this far?! "Alright Spike, that's enough! What's the meaning....of....this....." Twilight stopped talking when she saw the large crater in front of them. "What...?"
"It's not the crater! It's what's inside of it! Come on!" Spike shouted as he ran down in to the crater.
"Spike! Wait!" Twilight galloped in after him. Once she finally caught up to him, she was left speechless. There was a strange blue and white contraption.....and inside, unconscious....was a strange fox-looking creature......
