Grub
A Changeling worker with aspirations of becoming more. Years of hard labor have fortified his body and his spirit; he will find both sorely tested when he seeks to serve the least likely Princess.
Princess Chrysalis “The Warrior”
The youngest she is the most impulsive and passionate. Her political power base is the weakest, having only sway in the lower rungs of the Soldier Caste. For personal reasons she has refused to a take a Captain-Protector and has assumed the role for herself.
Princess Cerci “The Merciful”
As the middling child, she has learned long ago how to manipulate situations to her advantage. Presenting herself as a populist, she gives charitably to the poor working caste. She has most clout amongst the Caste Commanders and the most Captains to call her own.
Princess Beezleba “The Elegant”
Always calm and collected, she is patient and bides her time. Having tremendous influence amongst the Infiltrator Caste and her mother’s ear, she is most favored to win the throne. Despite many fawning over her, she has taken only a single Captain-Protector.
Queen Gossamer
The aging monarch of the colony, the years have softened the stern stone of matriarch’s disposition. Her children sense her wavering strength and vie to win her favor and declared heir to the dynasty.
Arista
Grub’s childhood friend, she finds his ambition infectious. She is optimistic despite her lower caste designation.
Husk
A member of the soldier caste, he bemoans that he will most likely die in service yet accepts it with fatalistic mien.
