Chapter 1: Nightlife

For years, Luna always had to deal with everything that goes around her. Like last week, Celestia walked in just as Luna was about to fall asleep. She was annoyed, but knew that if her sister found out she was even the slightest bit upset, it would result in "You mad? Problem? Why you so mad sis," so she tried as best she could to put on a fake smile. "Good evening sister, what are you doing here?" Celestia looked down at her younger sister, and calmly asked "Where is my pillow?" Luna didn't like the sound of that. Celestia kept her gaze fixed on her as she got up and began to walk towards the door. Suddenly, it slammed shut, forced to close by Celestia's magic. "Where is..." She started to say, stepping closer. "...my pillow?" Luna was now scared. "Uh...uh..." She didn't know what to say. All was silent for a minute, then Celestia started to laugh wildly. "I got you!" She yelled, opening the door and pulling a pillow out of the hall. "Problem?" She said as she left, leaving the door open behind her. Luna sighed. She was about to close the door when two guards rushed in, one without armor. "He took my helmet!" he said, pointing a hoof at the guard standing next to him. "No I didn't! Maybe Celestia took it, you know how she likes to mess with us!" "No! I know you took it!"

The two began to wrestle each other on Luna's bedroom floor. "All right, all right! Calm down, both of you!" Luna said loudly, levitating each guard in the air away from each other. All of a sudden, a golden helmet flew through the door and hit the unarmored guard in the side of the head, rendering him unconscious. Luna gently set him down, and looked out the door. "Take your helmet back!" Celestia called to the guard, unaware that he could not hear her. "This is insane! Both of you, out!" She said to the remaining guard. "But, but, he's heavy, and the guys-" Luna dropped the conscious guard and stood over him. "Now!" She yelled. The guard jumped up, and began dragging the other one out the door, along with the helmet. Luna sighed once more in relief. "Finally! I can finally-" She was just about to doze off when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Celestia had already risen the sun. "You mad, sis?" She yelled across the castle. Luna grunted, and walked downstairs. "Aww, ragequit." Celestia followed her. This process continued for the entire week, up until this night. The night she had been waiting for. It was finally here!

Luna stepped inside her room. Being a princess, one would think she'd have a large, elegant room. Well, she didn't, and she had Celestia to thank for that. It was more like a bedroom a pony would see in a Manehattan apartment. She had her bed, her closet, her rug, one window, and that was it. She wanted a bedroom like Celestia's, but the elder sister told her, "No, no! This one's the best! Trust me!" Luna now knows that whenever Celestia says "Trust me!" it normally means the outcome is eventually going to cause some sort of physical or emotional damage. She closed her door, and locked it behind her. It was almost midnight, and she, after raising the moon, got into her bed. "It's about time! I deserve some peace and quiet for once!" She said happily to herself. Luna was sitting under the covers, when, before she could even close her eyes, she heard a crash. "Oh, what now?" She said angrily. She got up, and was about to open her door and run to her sister's room, in which the crash would most likely take place, only to spot something lying on the floor in the middle of the broken glass. It was too dark to see what it was exactly, but it was small and curled up in a ball. She picked it up, it was soft. When Luna brought it into the moonlight, however, she saw that it was actually a small pegasus filly. It was orange, with a purple mane. Luna looked at it for a moment, and then realized who it was. It was Scootaloo.

She opened her eyes, and almost screamed. When she got a feeling of where she was, she looked down and yelled "It didn't work, girls!" Out of the bushes stepped Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle. "Darn it! That seemed like a really good idea, and I mean REALLY good!" Apple Bloom said in disappointment. "It's okay, we'll think of something else!" said Sweetie Belle, placing a hoof around her friend. "What are you three doing here?" Luna said, almost scolding. The trio all began talking at once, then Scootaloo said "Alright! I'll tell her!" Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle smiled. "Well, Princess, you see, we were trying to get our cutie marks, and-" Luna cut her off "Oh. I don't need to hear any more. You girls need to get home. It's too dark out, and we're too far away, so I guess I'll have to take you." She said, flying down towards the two fillies on the ground, Scootaloo on her back. "Come on, I'm tired." She began to walk away from the castle, when, to her surprise, the three fillies ran off. Luna was now visibly angry. "Ugh, already?" She was about to call for the guards, but then she thought "No, I really don't want to deal with their problems." She was right to think so. Currently, the guards were trying to get a sandwich Celestia put on the roof down without using wings or magic. Celestia herself was watching from the window, about to burst into laughter. Luna set off to find the Cutie Mark Crusaders on her own, when she was stopped by the gardener. "Hello Prin-" She put a hoof over his mouth and shushed him. "I don't want the guards knowing I'm still awake, or they'll make me fix whatever mess they got themselves into." "Oh, ok." He whispered. "So, what are you doing out of your room at this hour?" Luna looked behind him, and there was Sweetie Belle, walking right towards the tower of guards, not a care in the world.

"I don't have much time to explain, but you need to help me find three fillies, okay?" She said quickly and ran to grab the small unicorn. She was so close, but not fast enough. Sweetie Belle fell into the bottom guard, causing the whole tower to tip over. Screams rang out as the stallions fell to the ground. Celestia could not contain herself, and began laughing so hard, she had trouble standing. Luna quickly picked up Sweetie Belle and hid in a nearby bush. "Hey!" Sweetie Belle screamed. All of the guards looked over at the bush. "Who's there?" one of them said. "Oh please, PLEASE don't check in here!" Luna thought. "Let's check this bush out, it could be a spy!" another guard said. "Horseapples." Luna whispered. The guards looked inside the bush, and when they saw Luna, everypony in the area stopped. Nopony moved, nopony spoke. "Thank goodness you're here, Princess!" A guard finally blurted out. "Celestia put my sandwich on the roof." Luna stepped out of the bush, leaving Sweetie Belle inside. "And you want me to help you get it down." The guard just stood there, staring at her. "Well, yeah!" Luna picked up Sweetie Belle via magic and placed her on her back. "About that... no." Luna walked off to find the other two. The guards were shocked; not because Luna had an unknown filly on castle grounds, and possibly more, but because she wouldn't help them get their sandwich back. Their SANDWICH. It was so tasty, and when Celestia took it from them, it was more painful than anything they had ever experienced ever. One guard began to cry. "Don't worry, we'll get it down someday."

Scootaloo and Apple Bloom walked into the castle, giggling. "She'll never find us in here!" Apple Bloom said, bouncing up and down. They had thought hiding in the castle would be a good idea, since it would be the last place Luna would look, but it really wasn't. Just as they were walking up the stairs Celestia was coming down. They immediately froze in place. "Uh...hello Princess!" Scootaloo said nervously. "What are you doing up so late?" Celestia blinked. "I was going outside to check on the guards, what are you doing here?" The two fillies had to think fast. "Well...you see-" "Do you know what I can do to you for trespassing on my property?" Celestia said, towering over them both. "Um...no?" "You don't want to know, but do you know what I WILL do?" The two were frightened, and Celestia knew it. "N-no?" Scootaloo and Apple Bloom backed up, and Celestia stepped forward. "... Absolutely nothing!" She said, putting a smile on her face. "I got you good!" Celestia walked past the two, and as they walked up the stairs, they could hear her laughing. "You still didn't get it down! Looks like it's staying up there overnight!" She yelled, and a guard started bawling. "I wonder what happened." Apple Bloom said, stopping at the top of the staircase. "Probably something ridiculous." Scootaloo replied, looking around. There were two hallways, the left lead to Celestia's bedroom, the right to Luna's. "Which way should we go?" she asked. Apple Bloom thought for a moment, then happily said "Let's take the left! Luna would NEVER look in her sister's bedroom, let alone step hoof in it!" The girls ran down the hallway and into the large room. It was ornately decorated, with a bed in the middle. "Get under the covers, just in case Luna flies by the windows." Carefully, Scootaloo and Apple Bloom made their way under Celestia's sheets. At that exact moment, the door slammed open. "Don't look out, it could be her." Scootaloo whispered. It wasn't Luna, however, it was Celestia again, this time accompanied by two guards.

"I just don't understand why you would do that!" One guard said, sounding as if he had been crying. "Because it upsets you, and that makes me smile. Problem?" Celestia said, walking towards her bed. "What if a bird takes it or something?" asked the other guard. Celestia was about to lift up her covers, revealing the two fillies, when she paused. "That's...not my problem. Now, go away, I'm tired." The guards ran out, leaving the princess alone with the fillies. She walked to the side of her room, picked up a book, and sat on her bed. She didn't know it, but she was also sitting on the lower half of Apple Bloom's tiny body. She struggled to get out, but it was no use. Celestia was too heavy, and she couldn't move her. Celestia didn't even realize she was being pushed. Suddenly, she shifted her position, and was now sitting on top of Apple Bloom's head. "Do something!" She struggled to whisper. "I don't know if I can, but I'll try." Scootaloo slowly got out from under the covers, walked over to a nearby window, broke it, then quickly darted under the bed. "Huh?" Celestia got up to inspect the damage, letting Apple Bloom out from under her. "Come on!" Scootaloo said quietly, rushing to the door. Once they were both outside, Apple Bloom was breathing heavily. "Give me a minute, I have to...I have to..." She was trying to tell her friend to wait, but couldn't find the words. "We have to hurry! If we don't find cover soon Luna might-" Scootaloo gasped. Luna was standing in front of them, furious. Sweetie Belle was still on her back, looking down. "There you two are! Do you know how hard I've been searching?" Scootaloo wanted to say something, but she just couldn't. She froze up, just staring at the angry princess. "It doesn't matter anymore, come on." She put the remaining two CMCs on her back, and began to walk back downstairs. "I'm taking you three home."

"I don't wanna go home yet!" Scootaloo complained. By now, they were in the Everfree forest. The three had each tried to break away at some point, but the princess of the night had caught up with them. Scootaloo had tried to escape so many times that Luna had to actually go back to Canterlot, get a rope, and tie her to her back. "It's too late now! Your families are probably worried sick, if they even know you've broken out to try and earn your cutie marks. Again." Apple Bloom whispered something to Sweetie Belle, who whispered the same thing to Scootaloo. All three tried hard to keep from smiling, but it was a losing battle. Quietly laughing, the two fillies that weren't restrained dashed off in different directions. "Run. Run fast, and don't slow down. Don't slow down for anything. If Luna's on your tail, run faster. If one gets caught, the other one can still escape." Apple Bloom had told them. Luna was so angry with them, she forgot Scootaloo was still tied to her back. She even forgot she had a horn, and could just use magic to bring the mischievous fillies back. She just ran after one of them, which happened to be Apple Bloom. Before long, the four were in a desert. "I didn't know this place even existed in Equestria." Apple Bloom said. Sweetie Belle walked up from behind her. "We're in the Sa-mare-a Desert." she spoke up. "It wasn't enough that you were a dictionary, no, now you've gotta go and be a globe." said an annoyed Apple Bloom. "Actually, an atlas would make more sense, it seems more perspicacious." Apple Bloom turned around. "Whatever! As long as we're away from Lu-" Out of nowhere, Luna jumped up and tackled the two fillies, pinning them to the ground.

She was sitting on their back legs to keep them from running away. On the way, she had accidentally rammed Scootaloo into a tree, giving her several cuts and scrapes. "Why can't you girls just listen to me for once? I'm a princess, one would think three fillies wouldn't have even shown up outside my window so late at night." Luna was saddened by the fact nopony listened to her. They all listened to Celestia, though, and she took her own guards away from their posts to get a sandwich off of the roof. The CMCs could see this, and all three quietly said "We're sorry, don't be sad. We'll listen to you from now on, we promise!" Luna stood up, and the fillies stepped to the side of her. "Okay. Now, let's ge-" Luna stopped. She had forgotten they were in a desert, with no sense of direction. "Oh." She quietly said. "What's wrong?" Scootaloo asked, sounding so innocent. Luna knew that telling these three young fillies that they were lost in the desert with no way back would scare them, so instead, she said "Nothing! Now, let's get going!" putting on a fake smile. So they walked, and walked, and walked. After about an hour of walking, Apple Bloom started to complain. "We're not getting any closer to Ponyville!" Scootaloo had fallen asleep, and Sweetie Belle was so tired from walking that Luna had to carry her as well. "I didn't want to tell you, because I knew it would scare you, but we're lost in the Sa-mare-a Desert without a sense of direction. We'll be lucky if we even make it back to Ponyville at all." She said, slowing down.

However, she was wrong. Apple Bloom wasn't scared at all, Scootaloo couldn't hear anything she said, and Sweetie Belle was to tired to listen. "Maybe Celestia wi-" "Let me stop you right there." Luna looked up. "If Celestia even finds us, she'll just laugh, say "You mad?" like she always does, then leave us here." Apple Bloom stopped. "If you don't raise the moon, ponies will know you're missing, and come find you. Since we're with you, we'll all be rescued!" Luna looked at the filly once more. That was actually a good idea, but... "They won't think to look in the Sa-mare-a Desert, and even if they did, they wouldn't be able to find us." "Sure they would! They've found a cotton ball in a blizzard before, they can find 4 ponies in a desert!" Luna hadn't thought of that. She also realized something else: Celestia loved to mess with her. If she left them in the desert, she wouldn't be able to anymore. Sure, she could go ruin the fun of others, but she can't even go a full day without bothering her younger sister. Leaving her alone tonight was the hardest thing she had ever done, so she would probably rescue them after all. "Okay, I won't raise the moon tomorrow night." Sweetie Belle spoke up. "We won't last a full night in this desert, you know. We don't have any water. Somepony needs to find us before sunrise."

"Darn it!" Apple Bloom said loudly. Luna started to say something to comfort her, but realized something once more. "Hold on a minute... I'm an alicorn! I can just use magic to get us out of here!" she exclaimed. This woke up Scootaloo. "Are we there yet?" she said, looking around. When she saw the 4 were still in the desert, she grunted. "No, we're not there yet, but we will be soon enough!" Luna was happy; she was about to get out of the Sa-mare-a Desert and get these 3 fillies back to their homes, and finally get through the night without one of Celestia's interruptions. "Hold on!" She told Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom, mainly because Scootaloo was still tied to her back. The 2 each grabbed a leg as Luna closed her eyes and focused on casting the teleportation spell. In a flash, they were in Ponyville, exactly where they wanted to be. They had ended up in Rarity's boutique, and Sweetie Belle, too tired to walk, had to be helped to her bed. "Okay, now Apple Bloom, let's get you home, too." Luna said, walking out of the front door, which was conveniently unlocked. A few minutes later, they were at Sweet Apple Acres, and the entire Apple family was asleep. Luna opened the window to Apple Bloom's room, and flew in. "Here you go. Now, get in bed." Apple Bloom did as she was told, and the princess flew back out of the window, shutting it behind her.

"One last stop." She thought. "Scootaloo, I'm afraid I'm not sure where you live, do you mind showing me the way?" Luna said to the now fully awake pegasus filly. "Aww, I don't wanna go home! The night is still young, let's party!" she said, directing the alicorn to a building with flashing lights coming out of it, each one a different color than the last. "Well...I guess I can." She flew down to the front, and was greeted by two guards. "Good evening, Princess." they said, looking at Scootaloo. "Shouldn't you two be trying to get a sandwich off of the castle roof? Celestia said all guards had to help." Luna said, blocking their vision. "Well...um...we kinda ran off. Don't tell Celestia, she'll be furious." Suddenly, two hooves wrapped around each of the guards. Paralyzed with fear, they tried to look at what was in between them. To their, as well as Luna's and Scootaloo's, surprise, it was Celestia herself. "I already know." She said, looking at both of the guards. "Um, hello Prin-" Suddenly, she flew back to Canterlot, both the guards screaming as they were carried along. "Well, I guess we can go in." Scootaloo said. Luna opened the door, and just stood there, mouth wide open. It wasn't a party, it was a unicorn guard, shining lights through the windows.

He looked at the two. "Celestia made me do this. Oh, and she wanted me to tell you something." "Problem?" They both said. "Yeah, I know. Listen, do you know where this young filly lives?" Luna said, turning so he could see Scootaloo. "Umm...why is she-" "She tried to escape a few times, so I had to tie her down. Apparently, she doesn't want to go home." The guard stepped out. "Oh. Well, you're in luck. She lives right up there." He pointed a hoof to a nearby cloud. It had a small house on it, with two adult pegasi in the window, crying. "I told you they would be worried." Luna said to Scootaloo. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. Can you just take me up there? You know I can't fly yet, plus I'm kinda tied down." "Oh, right." Luna undid the knots in the rope, freeing the orange filly. "Thank you. Now, you have to get me home." Luna flew up, Scootaloo hanging onto her back, and landed near the front door. She knocked, and male pegasus answered the door. "Hello?" He said. "I believe this is yours." Luna turned, revealing Scootaloo, who had a big smile on her face. "Mom! Dad!" She yelled, running to her parents. "Oh, Scootaloo!" Her mother, who was still in the window, ran to hug her. "We were so worried! Don't you ever break out again, do you hear me?" "Yes Mom, I'm sorry." Scootaloo replied. "Thank you so much for bringing her back, Princess!" Scootaloo's father said. "It was nothing. Well, goodnight!" Luna flew off, back to Canterlot.

She made it back to her room with two hours left in the night. "Well, at least I have two hours to myself." She closed her door, got into her bed, and fell asleep. Despite the three fillies, the guards' antics, and Celestia wicked sense of humor, tonight was a good night after all. She hoped every night would be as fun as this. Celestia, once more, opened the door, uninvited. "What now?" Luna thought. Celestia was silent for a minute, then said "Goodnight, sister." and left Luna to enjoy the rest of the night she had left.
