Chapter 34: Epilogue

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Several tables and chairs shrouded in pink magic fly through the air as they approach a certain cyan mare; only to crash to the ground as the Pegasus rolls out of the way.

“Ha, is that the best you got!” Rainbow Dash mocks as she dodges another chair. “I’ve seen fillies with better aim!”

Twilight gowns and as she levitates several more objects and flings them at the mare before her; only to have them all scatter on the floor when she dodges them.
“Stand still, darn it!”

The cyan mare lets out a scoff as she takes flight. “Yeah right, I’m not going to let you hit me with one of those things; because you have a stick up your flank about this.”

“You can’t even begin to understand, what I’m feeling!” Twilight shouts as she levitates several more objects and aims them at Dash.

------

Octavia and Vinyl watch the display of drunken foolishness with bored looks on their faces.
“Perhaps you should step in and stop this.” The grey mare inquires as she continues to watch the scene unfold in front of her.
“Why do I have to do it?” Vinyl demands as she turns to earth pony.
Octavia slowly turns to the white unicorn; still maintaining her stoic expression. “Because I can’t use magic, plus you know a spell that can stop this.

The mare shrugs and turns back to the scene. “Fair enough, but I’m going to need some help on this.” Vinyl scans the area and notices another white unicorn standing to the way side of the fight; with a look of sheer terror on her face. “She’ll work.

Vinyl rises to her hooves and trots towards the small crowd; dodging a few flying table as she passes the two fighting mares and stops before a certain fashionista.
“Hey Rares, can you give me a hoof with something?”

Rarity tears her attention away from the fight and turns towards the music mixing mare beside her. “Is this really the best time for that?”

Vinyl grins. “It is if you know the happy sober spell.”

“You had Ms. Good Time as you’re instructor?” The white mare questions in shock.

The mare rolls her eyes. “Who didn’t have her? Ba-zing!” Vinyl holds up a hoof for mare to smack it. “Come on Rares, don’t leave me hanging”

Rarity reluctantly returns the gesture as she raises an eyebrow at the comment. “I don’t understand what you mean by that.”

“Ever wonder why she always held all those late night…” Vinyl trails off as she runs a hoof down her face. “Never mind, do you know the spell or not?”

“Yes, but!”

“Then fire away,” The mare shouts as she channels magic into her horn. “You get Twilight, I’ll handle Dash.”

------

The sound of frequent footsteps awakens the dragon from his deep slumber. Cracking open an eye he spots a familiar blue hedgehog pass his field of vision; carrying a small duffle bag. Spike rubs the sleep from his eyes as the floor creaks with each step. The dragon lets out a groan and looks up the one that interrupted his rest.
“Sonic?”

The hedgehog stops and turns towards the small drake. “Sorry little buddy, I didn’t mean to wake you.

“What are you doing?” Spike asks a he cranks his neck and glances around the room.

“I’m just grabbing some things.”

Spike blinks a few times as he attempt to find a comfortable position. “Why, you going somewhere?”

Sonic lets out a heavy sigh and plops the bag on to the empty bed. “Yeah, I am.”

The dragon stares back at the hedgehog, still attempting to fight back the urged to go back to sleep. “When you coming back?”

“I’m not.”

What?!” Spike shouts as he springs from his basket and look up at the hedgehog. “Why?!”

Sonic pick up his bag, unzips it, and adds a few things to it. “I got kicked out, so I’m going to be staying with Dash for a while.”

The dragon’s right eyes twitches at this. “But Twilight finally told you that…”

“Twilight was the one that kicked me out.” The hedgehog fires back as he rezips the bag and swings it over his shoulder.

“B-but why?”

Sonic kneels down so that he’s somewhat eye level with Spike. “It’s complicated bud, but it’s her own way of helping me.”

Spike frown at the statement. “How does kicking you out help you in anyway?”

“Well you see,” The hedgehog begins as he scratches the tip of his nose. “A friend of mine came to castle looking for me and now is kind of stuck here. “

The dragon blinked at the hedgehog’s comment. “So you gave up your place so they had one?”

“I guess you could say that.” Sonic replies with a shrug. It was either here or Dash’s and Blaze has some trouble with heights. Plus, I don’t think she can walk on clouds very well.”

“Wait, your friend is a girl?”

Sonic nods with a smirk.

Spike glances around as if making sure no one else is in the room. “Is she pretty?”

“Smoking hot.” The hedgehog states with a gin, but then turns serious as he motions the dragon to step closer to him. “Now don’t go freaking out on Twilight when she gets back. She feels crummy enough as it is. She doesn’t need you adding to her grief.

The dragon nods. “Understood.”

------

Several large tables, chairs, and other assorted objects levitate around an enraged lavender mare; each coated in a pink aura.

“So, you think you’re the best?” Twilight shouts toward the other mare.

“Oh, I know I am the best.” Rainbow Dash boasts

“Well then, you just…” The lavender mare trails off as she’s surrounded by a red magic.

Wait, what is…?” The cyan Pegasus, stops mid-sentence as she too in surrounded by a light blue aura.

Both mare’s snap to attention as if awoken from a dream.

“Uh, where am I?” Twilight mutters out as she looks around the club.

Rainbow Dash gives her head a few hard shakes. “I think we’re still in that club.”

“I didn’t think that’d actually work.” Rarity mutters out in disbelief as she powers down her horn.

Vinyl gives the mare cocky smirk. “Ms. Good Time’s patented cure all spell.” The mare removes her shades and levitates a napkin over to clean them. “It also works for sea sickness.”

------
The club doors burst open as a certain hyper active mare flies though them.
“Alright every pony, let’s get this party…started?” Pinkie trails off as she notices the scatter tables and chairs from the recent scuffle. “Well it looks some pony’s already started without me.”

“Hey, she started it!” Rainbow Dash shouts as she points a hoof at lavender book worm.

Twilight frown at the accusation. “I did not, you started it!”

“You calling me a liar?” The cyan mare asks flaring out her wings and taking a defensive stance.

The lavender mare rolls her eyes. “I’m saying you’re mistaken. Obviously you’ve had a lot to drink and…”
Twilight is cut off as Applejack steps between the two. “Now, come on ya’ll, it doesn’t matter who started it. It’s over now.”

“Still, no pony calls me a liar and…” Rainbow Dash retorts, but it soon cut off by another. This one being ever bubbly Pinkie Pie.
“Come on, Dashie. No use getting all worked up over it.” The mare pleads as she gives Dash a bright grin.

The cyan mare lets out an annoyed scoff. “Fine.”

“Good,” Pinkie begins still maintaining her grin a she steps back and motions toward dance floor. “We have this place for 5 more hours and...”

A loud creek draws everyone attention towards the new arrival.

Sonic stares awestruck at the destruction left in the two fighting mare’s wake. “Whoa, nice mess.” He turns to pinkie. “You weren’t kidding about things getting out of hand if you weren’t here.”

Pinkie smirks at the comment and then turns back to the once fighting mares. “Now that we’re all friends again. Maybe we should…”

“Maybe we should let them go home and cool their heads some.” Applejack interrupts much to the pink mare’s annoyance.

“Oh phooey, you’re just being silly.” Pinkie states with a dismissive way. “They’re just having fun. Isn’t that we’re all here for?”

Applejack nods at the comment. “True, but when ponies get to yellin’ and throwing things around I think it’s best they call it a night.”

“Perhaps, Applejack has a point.” Twilight inquires as she glances at the mess the two made. “I’ll just let myself out.” She glances around the room. “Anypony seen Blaze?”
------
A very annoyed Sol guardian sits as the end of the bar with several mugs and glasses sitting beside her. Blaze lets out a heavy sigh and glances into one of the empty glasses. “I was under the impression that you served drinks that were alcoholic?”

“Hey, that was the strongest stuff I had.” The bartended fires back defensively. “If you’re not feeling it now, you will in a minute.”

The lilac cat slams her hands onto the counter and glares at the stallion on the other side of the bar. Blaze opens her mouth to shout the pony down, but stops once she catches sight of Sonic appearing besides her.

“I see you have the same problem with alcohol as I do.” The blue hedgehog states as he smirks at the cat.

“And what would that be?” Blaze asks in a suspicious tone.

Sonic chuckles and crosses his arms. “Well to put it simply, it doesn’t work.”

The lilac cat opens her mouth to say something, but closes it after not coming up with a counter argument.

“Anyway, Twilight is looking for you.” Sonic gestures towards the door with his thumb. “She’s heading home and since you two are now roommates. It would probably be best if you followed her.”

Blaze slides off her seat and plops down next to Sonic. “Very well, I shall follow you to meet up with Twilight.”

“What about all that?” Sonic asks gesturing towards the small pile of cups and glasses.

“It's on the house.” The stallion behind the counter says. “If some of my best stuff can’t even give your friend a buzz. I have no right charging her.”

Sonic shrugs and motions Blaze to follow.

------

“Hey, I said I was sorry.” Rainbow Dash shouts as she closes the gap between her and a certain farm pony.

“When did ya say that? Ah surely didn’t hear ya.” Applejack fires back as she stares down the cyan mare.

Rainbow Dash rolls her eyes. “Fine, I’m sorry I messed up the-Oh hey Sonic.”

The mare cuts he apology short as she spots a familiar blue hedgehog walks towards her.

“Sup Dash? You ready to roll?”

Rainbow Dash nods and begins following Sonic towards the exit.

“Now hold on there, Sugar cube.” Applejack says steps between Dash and the exit. “Ya still have to apologize to everyone and help Pinkie clean up this mess.”

Sonic turns to the wheat colored mare and then to Dash. “So she just has to say she’s sorry and clean up this mess before she leaves?”

Applejack nods. “Yes, sir which might take…” The mare is cut off as a large gust of wind shoots past her. She cringes and shuts her eyes as she holds her hat down not risking it blowing away in the sudden blast of air.

“Now what in tarnation was…that?” The mare trails off as she reopens her eyes and see the club void of any mess.

Sonic appears alongside the mare with a cocky smirk on his face. “Well would you look at that. The problem fixed itself.”

Applejack frowns as the blue hedgehog. “As much as ah appreciate that, Dash was supposed to do that.”

The blue hedgehog smirks and crosses his arms. “Well that would prevent her from flying off and apologizing to everyone.”
“What are ya talkin’ about? Dash is right…” Applejack trails off as she turns to the spot the cyan mare once stood. Only to see an empty space. “The hay?”

Another blast of wind flies past the mare, prompting her to hold he hat down again. “Come on Sonic, ya just can’t…”

“Alright I’m done.” Another voice says to the mare’s right.

Applejack turns towards the voice and spots the formerly missing mare standing beside her; panting slightly.
“What to ya mean, yer done? Ya were barely gone for a minute.”

Rainbow Dash flicks her tail as if motioning Sonic to follow. “More than enough time to tell everypony I’m sorry.”

Applejack blinks silently at the mare.

“So, you ready to go?” The cyan mare inquires as she turns towards the blue hedgehog behind her.

“Yeah, just give me a sec. I’ll follow you.”

“What do you mean ‘follow’?” Rainbow Dash asks tilting her head slightly.

------

A certain drake sleeps soundly in his basket. Letting out an annoyed groan from the ever approaching hoof/footsteps and the voices. Spike mutters out a few choice words and rolls over in head bed; covering his head with a pillow.

“And this is the room you’ll be sleeping in.” Twilight says as she motions to the small set of steps leading to the top most floor of the library.

Attempting to avoid waking up her dragon roommate (only to fail miserably) Twilight had opted to use her own magic to illuminate the room, instead of the usual candle or lantern. This method as proven useful (if you don’t count the reason it’s being used.) Except for the small problem that arises when ever Twilight would move her head. Since the magic is coming from her horn. It movies around like a flashlight beam whenever the mare would turn towards something; blinking the poor lilac cat on more than one occasion.

Blaze follows a few paces behind the mare. A bit wiser after being hit with her bright light, the cat stays just out of the brighter part’s range.

Twilight trots up the small set of steps and turns towards Sonic’s former bed. “This is where…” She trails off and lets out a sigh. “This one is yours.” The mare notions to the bed besides her. “This one is mine.”

The lilac cat raises an eyebrow at the mare’s stumble and walks towards the bed. Despite the blankets being ‘freshly cleaned’, Blaze’s heightened sense of smell, make her able to still catch a whiff of the beds former owner. She stares at the bright red comforter and then turns back to Twilight.

“This must have been where Sonic slept.” Blaze inquires as she turns back towards the bed.

Twilight lets out another heavy sigh and looks at the floor. “Yes, he did use that for a while.” A small smile appears on her face. “He asked on more than one occasion if I thought it was ok with us sharing a room.”

“You really like Sonic. Don’t you?” Blaze inquires as she turns back towards the mare.

A low squeak escapes Twilight’s lips and stumble forward a bit. “Is it really that obvious?”
Blaze nods and pick up a pillow from her bed. “Sonic can be quite a charmer; Even when he’s trying not be to be.” Another smell fills the cat’s nose, prompting her to drop the pillow and stare slack jawed and something in the distance.

“That’s what I thought at first, but just being around sonic just makes a pony feel safe and protected.” She turns towards the cat. “You know- what’s wrong?”

The lilac cat continues to stare blankly into the distance, only breaking free of her daze when Twilight taps her arm. “Uh hello?”

Blaze back peddles and collides with one of the small table near the bed. “I-I’m so sorry. I didn’t know you guys where ‘that’ close. I’ll uh find some other dwelling and…”
“What are you talking about? Sonic and I aren’t....” Twilight trails off as she notices the disturbed pillow lying on bed. “Blaze listen, we didn’t do anything like that.” She looks away. “I mean we almost did, but Sonic stopped me and then we pretty much just went to sleep.”

The lilac cat slowly turns towards the mare. She studies her expression for a few moments and then lets out a sigh. “OK, I believe you.”

“Good, now then,” The light goes out. “Darn it!”

The room suddenly light up with a soft orange glow. Twilight scans the room for the source of this new light, notching its Blaze casting the new light.

Twilight stare awestruck as the cat as she effortless cast a small, but bright flame into the palm of her hand. Blaze smirks at the mare’s expression and runs her free hand though her fur. “It seems we have shared interests.”

The mare gasps as she holds a foreleg over her mouth. “You too?”

Blaze nods as her expression goes serious. “Given whom we’re talking about here. It would be safe to assume that we aren’t the only ones.”

“I figured as much.” Twilight says with a snort.

“So perhaps we can be civil about this.”

“I’m listening.”

The lilac cat passes the small fame between her hands. “Let’s agree, however this goes, we won't be against each other in the end.”

“I’d like that.” The mare replies with a kind smile. “I’d hate to become enemies over this.”

Blaze nods and stops the small ball of fire in her left hand. “Agreed, now then…” The cat trails off as she notices the lavender mare staring intensely at her left hand. “Would you like to learn how to create fire of your own?”

“”Yes, please.” Twilight responses with a bright smile.

The lilac cat’s expression turns serious. “For one to learn such a technique, you have to say focused and determined.” Twilight nods at this. “Also, once we start you’re training. There is no going back. After one’s flame is lit, it can’t be extinguished; less they wish to perish.

Twilight gives the cat a stern look. “I understand, I won’t let you down.”

“Good, we start tomorrow.” Blaze says with a smirk and blows into her hand; putting out the flame.

-----

Rainbow Dash stands atop a large cluster of clouds; packing several of them down with a hoof and a flick of her tail. “That should do it.” The mare mutters out as she turns to the bright light just above her. “Alright bud, it’s ready!” The share shouts towards the light. “Just set it down right here!”

A subtle chopping noise fills the air as the wind picks up; sending few stray clouds in various directions. The bright light shines greater as the noise gets louder. Rainbow Dash covers her ears just as a large steel machine touches down onto the cluster of clouds she put together. A certain blue hedgehog waves to the mare as he kills the engine and leaps from the craft.

The large helicopter blade sputters to a stop as the two twin front propellers follow suit. With the sound of cooling metal filling the void that the loud engines once filled.

Sonic smirks as he approaches the awestruck mare. “So what do you think?”

“That isn’t as good as my version, but it’s still pretty cool.” Rainbow Dash mutters out as she turns to the craft and then back to Sonic. “I still can’t believe Pinkie just gave you that thing. She put a lot of time into that just to pass it off to somepony else.”

The blue hedgehog shrugs. “I asked her the same question, but all she told me was that it would be better if I had it.”

“Still, I can’t believe that you managed to get that thing running.” She turns to the hedgehog. “What’d you use anyway?”

“Magic.” Sonic states flatly.

“No seriously.”
The blue hedgehog pulls out several differently colored chaos drives. “Like I said, ‘magic.”

-----

After debating how the energy from the chaos emeralds doesn’t count as ‘magic’ Rainbow Dash gives Sonic a tour of her home. To say the mare was excited would be a gross understatement. Dash was downright giddy, but did her best to hide this…sort of.

“So over here is my awesome kitchen. You know for cooking and stuff.” The mare boasts as she motion her moderately sized fridge and stove. “There is the bathroom; pretty self-explanatory. And here we have…” Rainbow Dash trails off as she notices Sonic is no longer following her. Turning around she stops the missing hedgehog standing in the doorway leading to one of the rooms.

“Sonic?”

“This room is huge.”

Rainbow Dash trots next to the stunned hedgehog and glances into the room. “Oh, that’s my room.” She boasts trotting past Sonic and plops down on to the bed. “I Designed it like the one I have back home.”

Sonic nods and takes a step inside; instantly notices the several large Wonderbolts posters hanging on the walls. “Jeez Dash; I knew you liked this guys, but…”

“Oh, be quiet!” The mare shouts in protest. “I’ve wanted to be a Wonderbolt since I was a filly. So it’s only normal you’d acquired a few... or several posters and things related to them.”

The blue hedgehog lets out a chuckle as he approaches Dash. “Hey, I’m just messing with you. I know you’re a fan. It’s not like you have one of them in here or something.”

“Yeah, that would be weird,” Rainbow Dash mutters out. “Hey what’s that?” She shouts random pointing towards something.

Sonic snaps towards the direction the mare pointed. “What is it?”

Having temporarily drawn the hedgehog’s attention away. The cyan mare zips towards a nearby wall and hastily tears down a poster hanging on it.

“Hey Dash, I didn’t see any...thing.” The blue hedgehog turns to the mare just as she jams something into a nearby closet. “Everything Ok?”

“Yeah, just fine. Why would you think it’s not?” Rainbow Dash shouts back defensively.

Sonic shrugs and turns away. “Whatever you say, Dash.” Something glistens on the small night stand near the bed. Prompting the hedgehog to approach the small picture frame.

“What’s this? ‘To my biggest fan Rainbow Dash. Keep flying and bring the heat. Sincerely Soarin’”.

“Soarin, isn’t that the guy we met...” The hedgehog is cut off as a now flustered mare snatches the picture frame from his hand.

“I had a big crush on him when I was younger. So what! It’s not like its weird or anything.”

The hedgehog shrugs. “I never said it was.”

Rainbow Dash sets the small photo back on the night stand. “Come on. I have a few places left to show you.”

------

“Over here is the living room and-Whoa watch out for that rainbow pit. It’s pretty deep.” The cyan mare mutters out as she steps past one of the rainbow wells that dot the floor of her house.

“Next is the room, you’ll be staying in. It’s almost right next to mine, but…” Rainbow Dash stops mid-sentence as she glances behind her and no longer sees the blue hedgehog.

“Oh come on, not again.” She looks around. “Sonic, where did you go?”
No response.
“Sonic?”
Still nothing.

“Ok, this isn’t funny, where did you go man? I’m not kidding around here.” The mare fumes glancing into a few other rooms.

The mare turns back towards the way she last saw the missing hedgehog only to still not be avail to spot him.

“Aren’t you a little old to be playing hide and see-holy crap!” Rainbow Dash lets out a shriek as a gloved hand burst from the rainbow pit and latches onto the side.

Knowing the owner of such a thing. The mare rushes over and grabs onto the hand with her hooves and begins to pull the submerged hedgehog from the pit.

Sonic emerges from an early grave and lets out a gasp as soon as his head breaks through the thick substance.

“Hang on!” Rainbow Dash shouts as she starts flapping her wings to help her pull the hedgehog free.

After several minutes a very exhausted mare stands panting to a multicolored hedgehog. With a very confused look on his face.

“You alright?” The mare asks between gasps of breath.

“Yeah, I think so.” Sonic replies as he examines the slimy rainbow slime now coating his entire body. “What is this stuff anyway?” The hedgehog licks his lips. “It’s spicy.”
Rainbow Dash turns to the now multicolored hedgehog. “Pure concentrated rainbows. Once that stuff dries it is a real pain to get off.” She motions the hedgehog to follow. “Come on, I have a way to get that off.”

------

A multi colored hedgehog stand behind a certain cyan mare as she digs in what can be assumed to be a linen closet.

“Now where is that thing?” Rainbow Dash mutters out as she shifts several object around “No that’s not it. Hm, maybe it…no that’s not it either. Come on! Where did you go?”

Sonic raises an eyebrow at the mare’s inability to find this ‘thing’ that would get this slimy rainbow colored goop of him. Letting out a small sigh, the hedgehog reaches towards the mare’s back; hoping to get her attention.

“Hey Dash, you need any-Phaw!” A rainbow colored tail smacks the hedgehog straight across the face as the cyan mare suddenly backs up and swishes her tail.

“Hey I found it!” Rainbow Dash shouts triumphantly as she turns back towards the rainbow colored hedgehog.

Sonic spits a few stray hairs form his mouth and maintains a relaxed position. “I have now tasted the rainbow and honestly it’s not what I expected.”

Rainbow Dash blushes at the comment and then looks way. “Unless you want to stay looking like bad spin art just do what I say.”

------

Leading the hedgehog to the bathroom, the cyan mare pulls a large brush from under her wing and holds it out to Sonic. “This should do the trick.” The hedgehog takes it from her grasp. “Doesn’t worry I never used it, but I had another one back in flight school and know for a fact that they work like a charm.”

“Cool, hopefully it works.” Sonic muses as he examines the brush.

“And if it doesn’t then it’s not all bad. You look kind of cool with all those different colored.”

“I believe the multicolored thing is you’re bit. I don’t want to rip off your style.”

Rainbow Dash nods and turns toward the hallway. “I have to grab a few things, just give me a shout if you need anything.”

Sonic nods and gives her a salute. “Will do.”

The cyan mare takes once last glance at the hedgehog and she exit the bathroom; closing the door behind her. Once the door latches into place and she hears the water of the shower start running. The once stoic mentality of the mare, crumbles.

“Oh my gosh, oh my gosh!” Rainbow Dash squeals. “He’s in my house. Sonic is now using my shower and is now saying here.” Her grin intensifies. “I can’t believe it. This is so AWESOME!”

The mare suddenly covers her mouth as she unintentionally shouted that last part out.

“Dash, you still out there?” A voice says from behind the door.

Rainbow Dash silently curses herself for being so loud. “Yeah, I’m just taking care of a few things. You need anything?”

“Yeah, now that you mention it. I could really use some help washing my back.” The voice says again; with a hint of playful teasing in its’ tone.

The mare’s face turns beat red as her cyan wings flair up. “Did he just…” The mare mutters out before takes a deep breath and turns back towards the door. “Uh yeah sure, just give me a sec and…”

Rainbow Dash is cut off as the sound of loud laughing can be heard on the other side of the door.

“W-what’s so funny?” The mare asks as she stares blankly at the door.

The laughter dies down. “I wasn’t serious. I got this.”

“Oh.” Rainbow Dash replies somewhat saddened tone.

“But there is one thing you could help me with.”

“What’s that?” The mare asks more enthusiastic then she intended to.

“Could you grab my bag? I forgot it in the zip craft and could really use a change of clothes now.”

Rainbow Dash sprang up and gives the door a salute. “I’m on it, back in a flash!”

As the sound of the sudden gust of wind dies down a very amused hedgehog chucked from behind a pale blue shower curtain.

“You too Dash? I figured you’d be used to this sort of thing.”

------

Elsewhere in a large room behind the great castles white walls. The sisters of the moon and sun stand before a group of ponies of various types and colors. Each wearing some sort of fancy dress or suit. Appearing ready for a dance or social gather, not a meeting with the alicorn sisters.

The elder princess smiles warmly at the group before her. However, before she can say anything the group of ponies. The doors leading to this large room, bust open as a male Pegasus clad in royal guard armory charges inside with a scroll tucked under his wing. Stopping before the group, the stallion bows before the before relaying his message.

“I apologize for my intrusion, but this matter is of great importance.”

“What news do you bring, White Lighting?” Celestia asks in her usual neutral tone.

The Pegasus unfolds his wing and holds the scroll towards the princesses; who uses her magic to levitate it and unravel the scroll.

“What is it dear sister?” Luna inquires as she watches her sister look over the scroll.

The usual kind and warm expression the sun princess is known to usually have is washed away from her face. What takes its' place is one of both anger and fear.

“Faust, help us.”
