The Mare With the Mail

by Captain Carnation

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Doesn’t know where she’s going, can’t walk a straight line,

Yet still she delivers your package on time.

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

Now you’re not really certain, but you’re pretty sure

That you’ve never met anypony like her.

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

The mare with the mail is so cheerful

The mare with the mail is so kind

The mare with the mail makes you fearful

That you’ll end up losing your mind

Every day, every night, she continues apace.

Sometimes  she just stops and stares off into space

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

As she gets down to business and flits to and fro

You watch her, unseen, from the village below

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

The mare with the mail is so joyous

And sometimes she causes a mess

You’d like her to know who this boy is

And send her a note to confess

Unaware of her feelings, you just had to check

She came to your house and she nuzzled your neck

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

Her forelegs on your shoulders, a tear in her eye

She speaks to you softly: “I’m flattered, but why?”

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

The mare with the mail got your letter

She now knows that you love her, too

The mare with the mail feels much better

But still not as good as you do

So you tell her about all the things you find cute

Her eyes and her laugh, every last attribute

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

Then she calls you her muffin and gives you a smile

You take her inside to sit down for awhile

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

The mare with the mail makes you giddy

The mare with the mail makes you warm

One day she flew off toward the city

Ignoring the gathering storm

Oh, the rains, they came down and the thunder, it crashed

The winds, they did blow and the lightning, it flashed

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

On her way back to you, she was blown right off track

She fell to the ground with a sickening crack

She’s the mare with the mail and she loves you.

You run to her side in a tizzy

Your tears, they are falling like rain

“I just feel a little bit dizzy,”

She says with a smile through the pain

“There’s no reason to worry, I’m sure I’ll be fine.

I have to deliver this letter on time.

I’m the mare with the mail and I love you.”

She repeats her last words as she closes her eyes

One last bit of sentiment piercing the skies

“I’m the mare with the mail and I love you.”

That letter now sits on your table

One last gift from a lover and friend

The mare with the mail was still able

To get it to you in the end.
