Chapter 4

PRESENT DAY

The rain was falling harder now. Phoenix stood back up, and began to walk away. He only stopped when he saw a certain tree out of the corner of his eye. The tree still had the branch sticking out of it. The rest of the trees were still burned. Too many memories were filling his head at once. He began to run away from the scene. He ran past Zecora's hut, and she opened the door, and ran after him. "Phoenix, wait! I must speak to you!" She called out. Phoenix stopped and turned around. "What?" He yelled back "You still think of that day, that day so blue." Phoenix could feel tears in his eyes. "Phoenix, during the fire, you remained intact. Your father would be proud of you, and that's a fact." Phoenix turned back around, and started walking again. "He's dead because of me. I started the fire." he said in a voice that made everything around him seem depressing. "He does not blame you for his early death. Actually, he said he loved you, with his dying breath." Phoenix looked back. Zecora was holding a flower. "This was for his grave, he said he liked this kind. Place it there for me, and keep him in your mind. If you forget your father, his death would have been in vain. You don't want that, do you? After all the pain?" Phoenix took the flower, and started walking back to the cross. "Never forget." he was saying. When he reached the cross, he set the flower down on the patch of dirt. "This is for you." he said to the cross. Zecora came up behind him. "You know, he was really something." he said to her. "Yes, he was, we will never forget him, never. His name will live on, forever and ever." Phoenix looked back up at the moon, and softly said "You've done good, Ace."
