Chapter 2

Kodi awoke suddenly from the dream, realizing it wasn't real, and just a memory.

He wiped the dried tears from his eyes, and looked up, realizing it was daylight.

He knew that he should get going, and should look for something to eat. However, despite his struggling, his body just wanted to lie there.

So he lied there, thinking more about what had happened afterwords, and eventually worked himself into a full day dream...

Kodi got up and left his cottage, to go meet derpy and possibly some new friends.

He wasn't normally this happy, but after yesterday, he suddenly felt like life was at least some-what tolerable.

He flew over to Derpy’s house.

Knock knock knock

Nothing

Knock knock knock

Still nothing

Knock knock knock knock knock. After a few minutes, and no response from the house was apparent, Kodi walked around ponyville, trying to find Derpy

Finally, the stallion galloped into the park, and saw a rainbow mare resting on a cloud.

"Hey..." He called

No response

"Hey!" he said again, louder

No response

maybe she's asleep he thought.

Kodi thought about what do do, and then it hit him.

He went up to an orange filly pegasus, said something in her ear, and handed her a few crumpled bills.

The small pegasus exerted most of her energy, and slowly flew up to a cloud, brought it over rainbow dash and  -- before doing it debated whether it was worth it, as she knew that even though rainbow dash would be mad at her, she would get over it in a day--finally bounced on it.

"Wha-?! Hey! What was that for!?" shouted rainbow dash, exasperated by the freezing cold water.

“Scootaloo?!”

Scootaloo just stood there for about a second, before pointing down into the street, and flying away.

Rainbow dash was ready to chase after her, but before she could, a male voice shouted from below

"Sorry! I just wanted to ask where i could find Derpy." said Kodi

Rainbow dash struggled to get up and look over the edge.

"Her? Derpy? Why? She's not really the most popular pony...or the smartest..."

"Well, she's perfect in my opinion! So don't you dare insult her when I'm around!"

Kodi seethed, his breaths coming out rapid and hostile. Time seemed to stand still, and the anger began to fade. Kodi suddenly realized his cruelty against Rainbow Dash was uncalled for and wrong of him. He took a deep breath, trying to regain his composure.

"I'm...sorry" He sighed

"What? i just said..."Rainbow dash suddenly put the pieces together, and a giant grin grew on her face.

"What? ...What's with that look?" Said Kodi, realizing she probably figured out the puzzle.

"You like derpy, don't you stallion?" Said rainbow dash, in a mocking voice.

"Well...may-Hey!” Kodi facehoofed himself”...Look, i just came to ask where Derpy was. Do you know? yes or no?"

"Your precious 'Derpy wherpy' is probably at the post office." Said rainbow dash, laughing

"...thanks" He grunted, obviously irritated by her.

To the post office he thought Now where could that be...

"Hey, hey you there.” he said, calling to a large red stallion carrying a giant wooden cart. The card was made of light-brown wooden planks, and looked very heavy, probably too heavy for him to pull without help, filled to the brim with apples.

"Eeyup?" replied big macintosh

"Do you know where the post office is?"

"Eeyup." He said, pointing a hoof down the street.

"Thanks!"

Kodi walked briskly into the post office to see the mare of his dreams.

“Oh, it’s you!” Derpy said suddenly, catching even him off guard.

“H-hi!” Said Kodi, embarrassed “Where were you at? I-I looked around ponyville, and i couldn’t find you.”

“Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention, i work for the post office. I just got done a few minutes ago, and was getting my paycheck. I won’t work for free, you know!” Derpy giggled as she said this.  She suddenly became serious “Why did you look around Ponyville for me though?”

“Well...I..” Kodi stumbled to get the words out of his mouth. He shook his front hoof back and forth, lightly grazing the floor.“I was going to see if you...wanted to hang out?” He had started to blush again.

“Sure, that sounds fun.”

“Re-Really? Great!” He was nervous, but at the same time glad that he had got that off his chest.

“How’s 4:30, tomorrow, at my house sound? And for dinner, i could make muffins!” Derpy laughed, a pleasant smile spread across her lips. “Muffins are my favorite!”

“It sounds perfect!” Kodi replied enthusiastically. And perfect it was, nothing could be better.

Kodi walked out of the post office contently with the way things had turned out. Not only did he learn when Derpy got done with work, but he was also able to spend some time alone with her.

That night, Kodi had trouble sleeping. Not because of the usual depression that left him awake, but the overall eagerness of being able to spend tomorrow at Derpy’s house, to be able to get some muffins, but most importantly, just to spend time with her... the other things were a luxury, that was all that really mattered.

It’s amazing He thought In less than a week, that mare has turned my life upside down...

When Kodi had fallen asleep, it had been probably 10 or 11 PM. When he had awaken, his mane was a mess; frizzes were everywhere, and his coat had gotten dirty, with not taking a bath in about 3 days.

In the shower, He had began to sing “Love me cheerilee”, slightly modified.

Hey derpy, derpy. Hey derpy, derpy. Hey derpy, derpy, i think i’m in love with you...

Immediately, he stopped singing, and he realized it.

He hadn’t had a crush on Derpy. He hadn’t Liked her as a “Special Friend”. He had liked her because she was fun to hang out with...

He was in love.

He had already acknowledged that he had liked Derpy, but not until not had he realized that he was in love, and when he realized it, he didn’t know if he should be happy, surprised, or scared.

He knew Derpy was the best mare he had seen, but he also knew that if he messed up, that she might not want to see him anymore. She would leave him heartbroken and alone. Would she crush him? Would she abandon him if he messed up?

No...she couldn’t...she isn’t like that.

But what about your other crushes? They did that exact same thing! She’ll do that too!

No, she won’t!

Kodi’s emotions battled back and forth for control of his mind. In his heart, he knew that there was no way she could do that, she was an honest, loving mare. But in his head, from past experiences, he knew that anypony could do that, no matter how loving they were.

What makes her so special? You thought the same thing about your other crushes, and look what they did!

But that was before...

Before what?!

Before...i was in true love.

Kodi sat down on the bottom of the bathtub, and debated with his heart and brain, entire mind consumed in his thoughts. He was just sitting there, mouth open, blinking out any bath water in his eyes, and searched his mind and heart for the answer.

You’ve been in love before!

But not like this, not with somepony this amazing!

Yes you have, multiple times, and everytime you got the same answer. ‘No’

But this one is different, and i know it...i know she is!

Yes, and i presume the others were different too!

No, they were immature, and unkind. She is neither of those.

She’s nothing! She’s no different than any other mare, why bother if you know you’re gonna fail?!

“ENOUGH!” Kodi shouted. He slammed his head into the hard plaster of the walls, smashing his skull as hard as he could, multiple times, until he had gotten disoriented.

Suddenly his heart spoke out.

She’s perfect...and you know that.

She was perfect- No, she was better than perfect. Not a thing was wrong with her. She was smart, loving, honest, and most importantly...His.

“She’s perfect...” Kodi shakily stood up “...and i’m going to make her mine.”
