It was the night before Nightmare Night, and all the girls gathered at Twilights house in preparation for it. They want to make this one of the most memorable days of the year.

"Ican'twaitIcan'twaitICAN'TWAIT!" Pinkie Pie shouted, running in circles around Twilight.

"Calm down Pinkie. This day comes around every year." Twilight said, getting slightly annoyed at Pinkie.

"I know! It should be EVERY day of the year though!" Pinkie laughed. "Who doesn't like free candy?"

"It's not just about the candy Pinkie." Rarity said, snipping some fabrics with scissors.

"Yeah, it's about pulling off the funniest prank to scare your friends." Rainbow Dash said, quickly turning to Fluttershy. "Boo!"

Fluttershy yelled and hid under her chair, much to Dashs and Pinkies delight.

"Please, don't do that." Fluttershy squeaked.

"Are you actually going out tomorrow Fluttershy?" Twilight asked.

"Oh no." Fluttershy said, slowly emerging out from under the chair making sure all was safe. "Nightmare night is far too scary for Angel."

Twilight rolled her eyes and looked at the others. "What are you guys going to be tomorrow night?"

"I'm going to dress up like a werepony and go around scaring everypony." Rainbow Dash said. "I already have it at my place, but it just needs a few finishing touches."

"I'm dressing up as my ancestor, Princess Platinum." Rarity said, focused on the fabric in front of her. "I'm so happy with the way its turning out."

"I'm dressing up as a chicken!" Pinkie Pie said.

"That's what you've gone as the past three years Pinkie. Give it a rest." Rainbow Dash said, rolling her eyes.

"Yeah but it's just so much fun!" Pinkie squealed.

"I think I'm goin' to escort Applebloom and the other youngin's." Applejack said. "So ah probably won't dress up."

"Won't dress up?" Pinkie Pie gasped. "But you have to dress up."

"Who says ah have to?" Applejack asked, raising her brow.

"Well you don't have to, I guess." Pinkie said, looking at the ground. "It just makes the night more memorable."

Applejack sighed. "Alright, alright. I'll dress up. What are you going as Twilight?"

"I'm going as Van Hellicorn." Twilight replied.

The others stared at her.

"You know, the demon hunting unicorn?" Twilight said, trying to jog their memories.

The others continued to stare at her.

"I give up." Twilight said. "You ponies need to read sometime."

Chapter 2

At Canterlot, Luna was in her room preparing for the celebrations ahead. As Luna was testing her costume on, Celestia walked in.

"Are you going out tonight dear sister?" Celestia asked.

"Yes. I had a lot of fun last year, aside from the start. It took me awhile, but I decided I would go out and have some fun. Sometimes I don't like being cooped up here all the time."

"I understand." Celestia said with a smile. "What exactly are you dressing as?"

"I'm dressing as a creature of the night, a friend of the shadows, an accomplice of the darkness." Luna said baring her fake fangs.

Celestia stared at here, smiling.

"I'm a vampire." Luna said, spitting out her fangs.

"Oh that's what that is?" Celestia asked, giving a slight giggle.

"I spent the past two weeks making it." Luna looked at the ground, depressed. "Is it that bad?"

"It's not..." Celestia started.

Luna let out a sigh, looking at her mirror, tossing the fangs into the trash.

"No. I know it's bad." Luna said, spirits crushed. "I just wanted to get the full experience out of this night. I guess I was a fool to think that I could make my costume scary."

Celestia frowned. "You're wrong." Celestia said, putting her hoof on Lunas flank, smiling at her. "It's not bad. You just need to find a way to make it more convincing."

Luna returned Celestias smile.

"Thank you sister. I'll try my hardest." Luna said. "I think I'll go to the royal library and see if there any books that can help me."

"You do that." Celestia said, nodding in agreement. "I'll be in my chamber. Will you allow me to see your costume upon its completion?"

"Yes I will." Luna said, getting up.

Celestia left Lunas chamber. Luna took off her costume and put it on her bedside table. She then left her room to go to the library to see what she could dig up. When she arrived she realized that she has never been in here so she did not knkow where to begin. But she knows who does.

Chapter 3

It was the morning before Nightmare night, and Twilight and Spike just finished having breakfast. Spikes stomach then rumbled.

"Don't tell me you're still hungry." Twilight said. "You just had a huge breakfast."

"No it's not tha-" Spike said, getting cut off from burping up a letter. He then handed it to Twilight. "Uh, I think it's for you."

"A letter from the Princess..." Twilight said, not expecting any mail. She's all caught up with her work and she sent a message to Celestia not three days ago. She then opened it. "Oh it's a from Luna."

"Well, what does it say?" Spike asked.

"Dear Twilight Sparkle, I require your aid at the royal library for the coming festival. It is of the utmost importance that you come as fast as you can. Signed, Princess Luna." Twilight read. "Well, I guess I should go then."

"You should bring your costume. You don't know when you're coming back and you don't want to be late for the Nightmare Night festival." Spike said as Twilight started her teleportation spell.

"Good point Spike." Twilight said, stopping the spell to grab her costume. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Don't wait up!"

"Wasn't planning on it Twi." Spike said after she had left.

Twilight appeared in the royal library to see Luna with her back turned studying a pile of books.

"What do you have there princess?" Twilight said.

"Ah!" Luna gasped, relaxing when she saw Twilight. "Oh just some dusty tomes. I'm planning on going out tonight dressed as a vampire, but the costume I made is... how should I put this? Terrible. So now I am trying to find images of a vampire so I may adhere to its appearance and look truly terrifying."

"Oh." Twilight said, wondering why she was there, since Luna had appeared to have everything under control. "Then why do you need help? I mean, if you already have a picture of one then you don't need my help."

"That's the problem I am having." Luna said, using her magic to open and flip the pages of half a dozen books. "According to all of these writings there is not and never can be. The reason is because that vampires are the undead, they lose their soul once they become one of the night, thus losing the ability to see themselves in mirrors."

"What does that have to do with anything?" Twilight asked skeptically. "Surely someone has seen one and painted a picture."

"No. Most ponies who find themselves in face with a vampire are outmatched by quicker thinking, bigger muscles and lightning reflexes." Luna said. "There are tales of few ponies who survived and tried to paint what they saw, but the next day the paint vanishes off of the paper."

"Wow that is freaky." Twilight said, grabbing one of the books Luna appeared to be done with. "Seems that you picked the right thing to dress as."

"Until I find a way to look like one then I will keep disagreeing with that statement." Luna said, sighing. "And even IF I find a way to look like one, how will I make the costume in time?"

"Have you thought of using magic?" Twilight asked. "Maybe there is an old spell book around that can help."

Luna glared at Twilight.

"If thou think that I did not think of that then you are wr-" Luna stopped.

Then Luna proceeded to facehoof.

"I should have thought of that..." Luna said.

"That's why you called me here." Twilight said, making light of the situation.

"I guess so." Luna said laughing. "Got any idea where some good spell books are?"

"I think so just wait here for a minute, I think I have one at home that could help." Twilight said.

"Alright, just hurry." Luna said. "There is only a few more hours until the celebrations start and I want to look my scariest when that time comes."

"I'll try." Twilight said, teleporting herself back home.

Chapter 4

"Spike are you still here?" Twilight yelled.

"Yea, and you don't have to yell." Spike said putting his claws to the sides of his head.

Twilight rolled her eyes.

"Come on, you have to help me find a spell book for princess Luna." Twilight said.

"Why?" Spike asked. "Why does she need a spell book."

"Well she is planning on going out tonight and she was trying to find inspiration so she could make a realistic vampire costume." Twilight explained. "But she couldn't find any paintings or anything that showed what they looked like, so now I have to find an illusion book that will temporarily change her appearance."

"Oh, okay." He said sighing. "I guess I'll look over there and you look over here."

"You do that. And hurry." Twilight said. "I want to make this night a good one for her. She didn't get to fully appreciate it last year."

Twilight grabbed multiple spell books, going to work trying to find the right spell. Spike started looking at all the books and realized he couldn't scour through as many as Twilight could so he decided to grab the biggest one of all. He grabbed the ladder and climbed to the top, grabbing a large red book. When he grabbed it off the shelf and reached the ground he noticed that there was a large padlock on it. He looked at Twilight, about to ask for the key, but thought that Twilight would rather keep working on her own thing rather than be distracted.

Shrugging, he grabbed his tail and put the sharp tip of it into the lock. After a few second of spinning it in every which direction it finally cracked open. Happy with his accomplishment, he started to look for an illusion spell for Luna. As he was flipping through the book he noticed that many pages were torn out. He just assumed that the book was extremely old so he just kept going. Eventually he found a spell titled 'Vampire Vomica'.

"Hey Twilight!" Spike yelled. "I found a spell."

Twilight dropped the books that were floating and walked up to Spike.

"Great job Spike, I better take this to the princess ASAP." Twilight said, grabbing the book from Spike. "I'll be back as soon as I'm done the spell."

And with that, Twilight teleported back to the royal library.
