The Future Is Magic
Chapter 1: A Day in The Park
Load Full Story Next Chapter"Hey Wormsicle, dumbass, you're going the wrong way" A bright orange pegasus was walking alongside a smaller gangly alicorn, who was oblivious to the glares of her walking companion, clumsily stumbling in pursuit of a butterfly. The mud brown alicorn tripped over her own hooves, faceplanting into the grass, her lazy eye spinning in a circle. "Now look what you've done, you little retard." The older pegasus picked her up off the ground. "Of all the ponies in the world, I get stuck with a walking disaster that cant even see straight." Wormsicle looked at her older sibling in admiration, seemingly unaware of the hate she was being given. They began to come into view of a meadow where other foals were playing, and many adults, including several of her friends, or at least, acquaintances. She spotted a hot pink blur in the sky, and recognized her marefriend, and waved lazily. Wormsicle saw her siblings movement and clumsily copied it, resulting in her losing balance and falling again.
Of course, one wouldn't have expected Sugar Rush to be all that observant, after all she was constantly bouncing around wherever she happened to be much like her mother Pinkie Pie, even moreso because she could fly having inherited her wings from her other mom Rainbow Dash. However the orange figure's waving caught her attention immediately and she almost instantly turned and zoomed towards the ground, grinning widely as she did so.
"Hi Flamey!" She called out her marefriend's pet name as she rapidly closed the distance between them, without showing any signs of slowing down.
Flame smiled softly, attempting to keep her stone cold expression. Wormsicle looked at Sugar Rush in awe, flapping her wings wildly in an attempt to fly, but she didnt lift off the ground. "What are you doing here, Sugar?" Flame Burst called out to the hot pink comet heading towards her. Flame moved to the side as her marefriend collided into the ground with a thud and a poof of dust
Sugar stood up and shook her head, completely unfased by the impact, before she began to speak: "I was feeling bored at home so I went out for a fly to where I knew I'd find all the colts and fillies my age. I was thinking about stopping by your place but now you've shown up and saved me the trip Flamey!" Sugar Rush threw her forelegs around her marefriend and hugged her probably a bit too tightly. Sugar spotted Muddy May standing next to her elder sister and grinned at her, "Hi Muddy, did you come to join us for some fun?!"
Muddy looked in confusion for a second, and began slowly mouthing a word out, her mental capacity unable to form the words. She instead settled for a vigorous nod, which sent her spinning. Flame sighed and looked up at Sugar. "We dont want to wear out the little mind the moron has." She grinned at her own joke. Suddenly, Flame noticed something in the corner of her eye. A white, timid, pegasus something "I think i see our Weeping Angel over talking to his imaginary bunny rabbits." She laughed at their pet name for the wimpy pegasus colt, who was crouching down in the grass, talking to nopony
Sugar Rush finally released Flame Burst and spun around, "Well let's go say hi to him before his imaginary friends become real!"
Angel, as usual, was lost in his own world. He enjoyed the outdoors and the company of animals, or at least he would if he could get them to stick around long enough for him to make friends. Angel was very much his mother Fluttershy's son, shy, cautious, easily scared, and friendly. However one gift he had inherited from his father, Big Macintosh, was the stallion's great strength, and while he wasn't as strong as he father he was still a lot stronger than he looked, a strength that he had a hard time controlling and he often caused damage to things without meaning to which almost always scared off any animals he tried to befriend.
"Hi Angel!" Sugar Rush had seemed to materialize hovering upside down in front of the white Pegasus causing him to jump backwards and smacking into a tree, causing it to shake and a couple loose branches to fall down.
"Please don't do that Sugar," Angel said, managing to stand properly. He would have asked Sugar to fly upright but he knew that was a lost cause.
"Who are you talking to?" Flame smirked, knowing the answer, as she walked up to the large colt. Muddy was waddling around the tree, as a loose branch hit her on the head, causing her to squeak like a mouse, sending her toppling down.
Angel turned to Muddy and carefully helped her to stand, "Just some bunnies that I wish were real," he sighed.
"Well better bunnies than a pile of rocks, or lint, or flower, or a bucket of turnips," Sugar finally righted herself and landed on her feet. Angel just nodded, not really understanding what Sugar Rush was talking about.
Muddy grinned hugely, her face barely containing the smile she had on her face. "Looks like my little worm likes you!" Flame grinned. "You can take her, celestia knows how much trouble the idiot causes me." Muddy jumped up and down. not tall enough to reach angels shoulder, she struggled to stand face to face with the huge colt. "A..." She began slowly attempting to say a word, her brain unscrambling the jumble of words and thoughts she had. "An...gull" She whispered, eyes glittering. Flames mouth went slack in shock as she heard the slow drawl of muddy's voice. "How the buck did you do that?" She yelled at angel
Angel just grinned sheepishly, blushing slightly, "Well I was just nice to her I guess, Muddy's the one that spoke."
"Wow, Muddy's first word!" Sugar exclaimed, hovering sideways over to the two, "I bet if we tell my mom she'll throw party for you to celebrate."
"Pinkie will throw a party for any reason," Angel said softly, hoping he wasn't being rude.
"Yeah, I remember one time she threw a "Happy 1 day anniversery of getting the mail! party" I got so wasted on the punch." Flame grinned, telling her story with hoof motions. Muddy wasnt sure what they were saying, but they were so happy that she said.... whatever she said, she decided to say it again and again! "Angullangullangull!" She bounced around said colt, as Flame continued to recount stories about when she got drunk one night, or the other day, and so on. "Can it Wormsicle." Flame groaned after a couple more minutes of the exited alicorns hopping, tossing a small rock at her sister, who was unfazed and continued in her happy chant
"Aww Flamey, just be happy for her," Sugar Rush zommed next to her marefriend and put a leg over her neck before giving her a kiss.
Angel carefully put a hoof on Muddy's back, to steady her bouncing then looked her in the face, "Woudl you like a party?" he asked.
Muddy looked in awe at the big pegasus, she didnt know what he said, but she wanted to make him happy, so she nodded. "Wha.." Flame was caught in suprise from the sudden kiss but enjoyed it anyway. "Sugar, you know she doesnt know what shes saying." She looked to the side.
"That doesn't mean I can't be happy about it," Sugar replied.
"So what, we go and get your mom and make sure the tables are stocked with only the finest booze?" She grinned. Muddy smiled and began wandering away from her sisters snogfest. Seeing two ponies in the distance, she walked clumsily towards the two ponies, both deep in argument "Techno is too better than country!" Two ponies sat upon a picnic blanket, wildly arguing. One had hair in many colors, the other brown and blue. "This is what country sounds like "Im a lonely cowpony, blah, blah, i rope shit, you roped me up, now we in cowpony love and stuff." The boy, Static base mimed the actions as he sang, his voice off tune, plucking the banjo he had taken from the mare haphazardly.
Poppy notes carefully used her magic to pull her instrument away from Static. "I disagree, Static. Techno has its merits but it's very hard to figure out what anyone is saying or what the meaning behind the words are. And not all country music is about losing and finding love."
"You always have to ruin my fun, Poppy." He grinned, running a hoof through his mane. Muddy looked at them absentmindedly, not hearing what they said, just standing there. "Well.... Country is dumb" He fumbled, loosing his grip on his arguement. "And you can hear what their saying! You just arent fast enough to listen!" He waved his hooves wildly, yet again loosing track of logic. "And thats another thing! Country is slow and boooooring!" He moaned dramatically.
"Just because somethign is slow it does not mean it's boring," Poppy replied, "fast music can serve to excite someone but slower music can move people and can be more effective when that person wants to relax." Poppy shook her head and noticed their guest.
"Hello, you're flame burst's little sister Muddy May if I remember correctly," she spoke to the brown alicorn.
Muddy smiled, recognising her name. Searching in her faded memories, she realised she knew this pony somehow. "Angullangullangull!" She blabbered incoherently, hoping to please her like she did her sister and the white pretty one. "Whooa... Dude, Poppy, I think that she has a horn..." He grinned, afraid he was seeing things, he was too stunned, not knowing flame bursts sister. "She is horned, aint she?" He turned to his partner in music
Poppy nodded, "Muddy May is an Alicorn. I asked Spirfire and Soarin about her once and they said she's... an anomoly. She's mentally handicapped and can't use magic or fly yet. This is the first I've heard her speak actually," Poppy smiled at Muddy, doing her best not to sound rude, then sighed, "Her sister isn't exactly nice to her."
"So shes.... Ya know...." Static fumbled to say what he thought politley, motioning with his hands. Muddy began to copy his motions happily, seeing it as a game
"Mentally handicapped is the politically correct term," Poppy replied, "Flame Burst uses ruder terms to describe her."
"Yeah, that. Even if you are a country junkie, you know a lot." He grinned at his own joke. During the time they had been talking, two things had happened, Muddy had found the banjo, and flame finally noticed the lack of one brown alicorn.
"Where did little miss retard go?" Flame stopped her tangent on berry punches policies on the limits of alchohol for a second and noticed the absence of the chant of angulls.
"I think she just wandered off, maybe to look for something fun Flamey!" Sugar Rush jumped up and began spinning around in mid air, searching for the alicorn. "There she is!" she pointed with hoof towards Muddy, Poppy and Static.
"Is she alright?" Angel asked, looking up at Sugar.
"Looks like she's having fun!" Sugar Rush answered.
"Whats the idiot off to now?" Flame sighed, racing towards her sister. What the idiot was off doing, was getting her head stuck in the banjo, thinking there was something inside, like those boxes with things that happen sometimes, once and a while. There was nothing in it, unfortunately. "Uh, Popps, I think we should do something." Static base stared at the filly, waddling around blindly. "Oh celestias mane, what the hell did she do?" Flame looked at her sister annoyed. "Why cant you do anything right, retard." She slapped her little sibling. "Dude.... That was harsh.." Static said bluntly.
"Really, Flame Burst, she's your sister!" Poppy was clearly distrubed by how Flame was acting as she carefully used her magic to remove the banjo from Muddy May's head.
"Oh don't worry, Flamey's always like that," Sugar Rush said as she landed between Poppy Notes and Static Base. Angel had joined them but was staying back and out of the conversation for the moment.
Muddy blinked in surprise, shaking her head, she saw her big sister and rushed over to her happily. "Stuff it moron" She told the happy alicorn, who only blinked. " And you." Flame turned to Poppy. " Who the hell do you think you are, telling me what i can or can't do?" She glared.
"I just wish you wouldn't treat your little sister so cruelly," Poppy replied. She thought about bringing up the degrees of disability that afflicted the sisters but decided against causing that kind of stirr.
"if you want the twerp, take her." Flame snarled.
"Oh don't be like that Flamey!" Sugar Rush zipped around to Flame's side. Poppy notes just rolled her eyes and moved her banjo closer to survery the damage
"You always know how to calm me down, sugar." Flame purred suggestively. Statics ears perked up in interest, his eyes wide. "Whoa..." He grinned.
"Aww, it's because I love you Flamey," Sugar Rush nuzzled her marefriend's neck.
"And thats why I love you, because you are my sugar rush." She smiled at her awful pun.
Muddy stared poking Poppy, looking at the not present. "Angull?" She nudged it
"I'm just checking it for damage Muddy," Poppy explained, thankful that Flame Burst's attention was elsewhere for the moment.
"Dude, your banjo looks screwed. Reminds me of when we met piƱa colada for the first time and she had a mouth harp and... Well, that was a good day" Static grinned.
"Yeah," Poppy replied unhappily, "I'll see if it can be fixed but I may need to buy a new one now."
Muddy looked over at the white pretty pony, and ran over, jumping on him like a bouncy house.
"Anguuuuuuuuull," She screeched happily.
"AAAAH!" Angel was caught completely off guard by Muddy's sudden assault and he hastily tried to roll away from the bouncing Alicorn.
Sugar managed to fly up and catch Muddy in mid air: "No no no Muddy! Angel isn't a bouncy castle!"
Muddy was very confused, every pony was saying the bad word that meant she had been a bad pony. "Angulll?..." She whimpered softly, struggling free of Sugars grasp. She used her vestigial wings to glide down to Angel, nuzzling him. "Angull..." She sighed, as flame noticed the spectacle. She grabbed the alicorn by her hair, and glared at her. "You little retard!" She snarled. " Why the buck did mom have you!" She dropped Muddy, who blinked. " First they crush my bucking hopes and dreams, and now I have to deal with you!" She hissed, running off, her eyes brimming with tears
"Flame Burst wait!" Sugar took off after her marefriend.
Angel did his best to smile at Muddy and went to nuzzle her back: "Don't worry I'm OK, I'm built a lot sturdier than I look."
Muddy beamed with a smile much bigger than her face could contain, and hugged him hard as she could, which wasnt much.
Static Base giggled. "Looks like somepony has a girlfriend!"
"Umm..." Angel was unable to form a proper response.
"Static don't embarass Angel so much," Poppy chided her friend.
"But look at her, shes in love.... I think." He fumbled"She might have a crush on him," Poppy concented.
"Umm, thanks?" Angel was still unsure of what to make of this and just sat down next to the brown alicorn.
"How old are you two anyway?" Static asked the pair, one of whom was nibbling on the others white ears. Muddies ears perked up, hearing the words that came around sometimes, usually with the boxes of stuff. One of the few things she knew well was her age, so she could say it when she was asked. She couldnt speak it, but she could stomp it, so she jumped up and down. "Well that doesn't solve anything." Static didnt recognize the pattern
Angel watched until Muddy stopped jumping: "She's 17," He guessed correctly, "and I'm 19."
"Wow.... How'd you figure that out?" Static Base was speechless, a rare occurance indeed. "But she looks like a little filly... Acts like one too. How can she be 17?" He sat there, puzzled. Muddy was searching through Angels mane, thinking it was hiding something. It could elude her for only so long...
"It's because of her handicap," Poppy replied, "She'll likely have difficulty growing much but she's still sweet."
Angel just sat there, blushing as Muddy searched her mane.
"Well, we should leave you two lovebirds alone, looks like it to me." Static grinned, dragging Poppy with him.
Muddy nuzzled angel, smiling widely, though she had no reason to why she liked the stallion, but she did. "Angullangullangull" She blabbered.
"Knock it off!" Poppy said, trying to extract herself from Static's grip. Angel jsut sat there, and turned to Muddy, not saying anything, partly because it wouldn't make much difference but mostly beacuse he didn't know what to say.
"I wish animals would come to me like this," he said under his breath so no pony could hear him.
Sugar Rush had been forced to fly to keep up with Flame Burst: "Wait Flamey!" she called desperately, hoping vainly that her marefriend would slow down or stop. Flame kept running away from the group, her useless wings buzzing
"GO AWAY!" Flame shrieked and sped up, her hooves leaving flame trails behind her.
Sugar Rush was forced to put on a burst of speed, Flame Burst was really fast on foot and despite her claims her wings actually gave her a speed advantage on the ground. While Sugar Rush couldn't perform a Sonic Rainboom like her mom she had the blood of two of Equestria's fastest running throug her veins and she was able to catch up with, but not overtake, Flame Burst with some effort: "Flamey please, let's just find someplace quiet for a minute!" she offered.
"YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, SUGAR...." She screamed, but stopped her running, leaving skid marks on the ground.
Sugar Rush had to fly back slightly, having overshot where Flame Burst had stopped. She landed and walked over to the orange Pegasus and lay her head across the back of Flame Burst's neck and putting one of her hooves over her back, not saying anything for the moment.
Flame burst was silent, hugging her marefriend, buring her head in Sugars mane. "I'll... Never fly..." She whispered. "I can never be what I dream." She looked at the ground and let go of her girl. "Why." She hissed. "Why couldnt I BE WHAT I WANTED!" She started with a growl, that became a roar, that lasted a second before Flame collapsed
Sugar Rush just lay down, her head alongside Flame Bursts: "I know, Flamey, I don't understand but I know and I'll always be here for you, no matter what. No pony's around, you can just let it out," she offered.
"No..." She sighed. When she was around Sugar, she had no reason to feign any more anger"I admit, I overreacted, I think we should go get thet twerp."She blushed as she launched a surprise kiss on her girl. "Right after this."She grinned, and after a while, she started in the direction of the picnic place.
Sugar Rush smiled, she wished she could do more to help but this was fine for now and she followed Flame Burst, just smiling.
"Its time to go anyway, Uncle TwiSky said he was meeting your dad... dad..." Static held firm, using his uncles nickname.
"Hey Wormsi...." Flame began, before she saw her sister had launched a surprise kiss on Angel, who was squirming. "What. The. Buck." She said, her jaw slack. "You know, Im not going to ask." She sighed, and grabbed Muddy and placed her on sugars back.
Angel just nodded, "Nice to see you, I should go home," he said, getting up and walking away rather quickly.
Sugar didn't mind the extra weight, "Looks like somepony might have a coltfriend," she knew her teasing was lost on Muddy but it didn't matter as she began trotting away back to Flame Burst's house.
